The age of the apartments, for one (Vista is the oldest complex, then Chatham, then Patterson). Size is another difference (Chatham has the biggest apartments of the 3).
For me, I like Chatham better because:
*the apartment size
*the complex (its a really nice complex)
*the buses (the buses do not stop at Patterson, so you have to walk to Chatham to catch a bus. While the walk itself isn't that bad, it's a pain late at night, after shopping, and in the rain).

From what I heard Vista Way has a bad rep and it's older than the other apartments. Like the crazy parties all happen in Vista though, I'm sure it depends on who moves in there lol
Patterson is the newest so you have all new appliances and the only down side to it is that it doesnt have a bus stop, though I want Patterson and I need the exercise! I get out of breath running up and down stairs! I need to get in shape!

I also heard they may decide your apartment based on what your role and work location is. What's up with that? We can still state our preference and get it even if it isn't recommended?

I think that's just a rumor. I've never heard about being placed in a apartment based on your role/work location. They place you where you preferred to be and based on availability. For me, I really love Chatham. Here are a few reasons why I love it more than all the other complexes...
-Its more quiet and spacious.
-the rooms are bigger and nicer.
-Its a 10 minute walk from Publix and the Outlet Mall (Which has Starbucks, which is a big plus for me)
-Its right across the street from Mickey's Retreat.
-Its right next to International Drive, which has a Trolley Service for a dollar that takes you up and down Inter Drive, especially to Seaworld. I never had to pay for a taxi, I just took the trolley to Seaworld for only a buck.
-Its less crowded than Vista Way.

Idk man. I don't want to be having to put up with wild parties every night, but at the same time, I don't want to be stuck with a bunch of cold fish either that don't talk and never party at all. I figure I'll prefer Chatham. Then if I want to go to a party, I'm sure there'll be friends who'll have one.

And considering some shifts start early in the morning, the curfew at 1AM I can live with as I'm going to need sleep. Speaking of which, I hope I have a roommate that sleeps normally too, LOL. I mean, in darkness. I've been in hotel rooms with friends that snore really loud, and friends that leave the TV on. I managed. I can sleep, its just harder to actually fall asleep in those situations. I just prefer total darkness.

idk i guess the definition for wild partys are kinda grey...the way people decribe vista is like a weekend rager 24/7 (which i highly doubt) or are they just anti drinking which i had a terrible experience last year in our old apartment complex, we would party but the girls across the row would call the cops every night regardless what we were doing and sometimes they would go home for the weekend and just call from their houses, one time the cops came and me and my one roomate were watching tv....some people are crazy. I respect people if they ask for quiet but im an out going person and can be loud just talking so although i cant handle a 24/7 rager, i cant handle stick in the mud that are so anti drinking they target anyone that likes to cut loose and drink

Vista Way is crazy with their parties. You will always find one being hold every night somewhere. I slept over at Vista a few times and I couldn't sleep at all due to all the noises from the buses and parties being hold. I guess its like that because whenever the party people start the program, they had heard rumors about Vista being party-centered, so they decided to stay there. People who hate parties usually stay away from Vista and go to Chatham/Patterson. Chatham is not completely boring and quiet, they do have parties now and then, just not as much as Vista. And if you really want to go to a real party, you can go to the Commons. The ICPs always have the most craziest, loudest, and funnest parties. You can go on youtube and look them up. They have tons of videos of the parties at all the complexes.

Is there a price difference for the apartments?
Yes, the prices range from $80-$105. Patterson is the most expensive, Chatham coming in second, and Vista being the cheapest. The less bedrooms in the apartments, the more expensive it is as well, meaning 1 bedroom apartments are the most expensive while 4 bedrooms are the cheapest.

Vista isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I stayed there during fall 08, and i loved it.
I'm not really a party person at all, and I had no problems. While its true that Vista is the "party complex" out of the three, its not like there's raging parties 24/7. The chances of there being a party in your building that often are pretty small. My roommate had one party the whole time. and our neighbors only had one as well. While Vista can get a little loud at night, after a while you don't even notice it.
I actually really liked it cuze no matter what time of day it was, there were always people around. Chatham and Patterson were just sooo quiet and deserted at night.

Do you have to change your whole apartment complex? Or just the room you stay in? As for me, I think I'll stick with Chatham. Not that I wouldn't party, but I could then go to one if I wanted to, and otherwise sleep better.

Exactly what I mean. I don't go all 24/7 and wild, but at the same time, I'd like to help myself to a drink now and then. So its all about finding the middle-ground.

Oh...cool. Let me get this straight...So say I'm in Chatham in apartment A and I want to change rooms. There's another guy in apartment B, and he doesn't like his either. We're both in the Chatham complex. So we could trade without any additional cost? Or did you mean just trading the rooms in the actual apartment? So in that case, I stay in A, and go to another room in A without the cost?

I absolutely agree! I lived in Vista in Spring 2007. My building was right next to the main building. I never heard any loud parties nearby! The only downside to my building was hearing the buses drive by, but even that took only a week to get used to. I really liked Vista! It was cheaper, and yeah it wasn't as nice as Chatham, but it felt more homely. Chatham made me feel like I wasn't allowed to touch anything because it was all so new. There will always be pros and cons to each apartment, depending on your preferences. Do your research to find the apartment that is the best fit for you. I went to the website and took virtual tours of Vista and Chatham and realized they aren't much different. Don't push Vista to the side based on only negative comments.

Here's my 2 cents, coming from a CP Noob (fall 09)...I think I'll go with Chatham..
Reasons FOR Chatham:
*I hear they have larger apartments and well I have lots of stuff =]]
*If night after night I'm working long shifts and I happen to want to actually sleep, I want to be able to haha
*Bus stop
- I like being social at times and quiet at others, and I am really not a morning person so I'm thinking that if I was up all night and woken up early but noice..I'll be po'd.
That being said..I don't like the idea that things "die down" at 9pm. I'm a big night owl so I'm talking 12-3am until I crash..I want to be able to be in my apartment with music or TV or just being up in general when I get off.
The good thing is that if I want to party I can go over to Vista or Commons (so long as I know ppl haha). You can always get warm if you are cold, but it's harder to get cold if you are hot...digg?

I love Chatham and hope to stay there again, if not I'll take Patterson. Chatham does have bigger apartments and there is the Publix and the outlets nearby. On a random note, Vista is the only complex with a hot tub, the others do not have them (not that I'd use it anyway hahaha).

Yeah, I stay as far away from the hot tubs as I can get. A lot of nasty things go on in there. If I want to go to a hot tub, I just go to one of the resorts. That is what I did last time.

Well, I lived at Vista, and it really was not that bad. It has been a few years, but they still had the reputation of being Vista Lay (the bus drivers told us all the stories). Anyway, I am not a partyer and was never really bothered by the parties. I did see them, but maybe I was just fortunate that they were never in my building? I don't know. I do know that if I was out walking late at night, I could usually find a party. Another thing that may have been on my side, I lived on the top floor. I know usually people have more noise problems the farther down in a building you are. I did get woken up a few early mornings by the maintanance people mowing or weedwacking (I swear it was almost every day) and a few times by the guy across the hall fighting with his girlfriend on his phone (in the middle of the night!! - he was nice enough to leave his apartment so as not to disturb his roomates, but then he just ended up waking me up). I'm sure this isn't everyone's experience, however. I had the bedroom next to the front door of the apartment, and my bed was beside the window (so he was literally sitting outside my window arguing - you'll see what I mean when you get there).
But all in all, I loved Vista, especially if you are not going to bring a car. Again, things may have changed, but I know Chatam used to have to catch a bus to Vista just to catch a bus to many of the places the buses take you. I would also recommend getting an apartment on the top floor. Ours was a two bedroom, so four roomates, with a bathroom in each. And, while it didn't actually make the apartment bigger, the cathedral ceiling and larger window certainly made the place seem plenty big. We all worked odd shifts, so it was rare that all four of us were home at the same time, and all four of us were very quiet people, too. Great experience at Vista!

dkmulder...that sees to be a pretty good story of how vista is. I cant imagine parties everynight keeping you up. Just judging from these get to know each other threads it doesnt seem like to many drink and party any way so if i get accepted (still pending) i will def be staying at vista cause if i want to party i would like to walk out my door and then stumble to my bed at the end of the night instead of running around orlando.

Try this: http://www.wdwcollegeprogram.com/sap/its/mimes/zh_wdwcp/students/housing/housing_overview.html
If it doesn't work, then go to wdwcollegeprogram.com, click students, and then housing. Along the side there are different pages to read about the apartments and one that shows 360 views of rooms.

So if you live in Chatham or Patterson and want to go to Vista Way for a party, you have to have a Vista Way resident sign you in at security, you can't just go over there?
Also, is there a limit to how many guests you can have in one day? Like if you and your roommates have a movie night or something, does each roommmate have to sign in a few people or one person (or one apartment) can have as many as they want?
Are you allowed to go to CP housing events in a different complex than where you live?

Posted this question elsewhere, but this looks like the better place. Can CPs live in Patterson? I have heard they can and cannot. There seem to be a LOT of people on here, mostly CPs who plan to ask for that, but I had heard it wasn't an option, that it was only for the PIs. I really like Chatham, but if Patterson is available I want to be able to consider it. I had just heard otherwise. Just so everyone is at an understanding of what we can do, or maybe I'm just confused. Thanks!!!

You don't need anyone from other complexes signing you in during the day. However, after 9pm you will need to be signed in to the other complexes.

If the guests aren't CPs, they always have to be signed in (even before 9pm). However, if CPs go in before 9pm, they don't have to be signed in once 9pm hits (I believe). However, all guests (including CPs), have to be gone by 1am.

If they plan to stay past 9pm, they have to be signed when they arrive (even if its 8pm). They will be kick out at 9 if they are found. I know a few people who were kicked out even if they arrived before 9pm. I know a ton of people even have sleep overs, but they always find out about it and get terminated. So, be very careful. If you don't want to get in trouble, you could always sign three of them in and have one of your friends or roommates sign in the other two.

So from my understanding Chatham and Patterson are across the street from each other and Patterson does not have a bus stop correct?
So my question is how many lanes is the street between the two complexes?

That is correct.
The walk itself isn't too bad (it's about a 3 minute walk from the front of the complex). However, it is a pain when it's raining or after shopping.

You aren't crossing international drive or anything. It's a side road.

I have some friends that live in Orlando, I can ask them about some good apartments.

Anyone confused on where to live.... Chatham. I love it. Very quiet (unless you want the party scene- THEN Vista is an option), within walking distance of Publix, Walgreens, etc. Apartments are very nice... mine is right next to the laundry and the pool. :)
