We are going to FW next week end! We are thinking about bring our fire pit but was wondering will FW ban all fires even if it's in approved fire pit? It's been real dry here so I was not sure what kind of weather they have been having down there and if we would be able to use it if its been real dry there.
I have one more question we are planning on leaving Friday afternoon and going as far as HWY 27 in Cheifland FL the first night does anyone know of any good campgrounds between Cheifland and Ocala?
Thanks

there is a small cg on 27 outside cheifland on the left called Breezy Acres, it looks ok from the road when we pass it going to the fort, otherwise there is a cg before the Suwannee River on 27 before the bridge on right.
Breezy Acres Campground 10050 NE 20 Avenue Chiefland FL 32626 904/493-7602
Suwannee River KOA P O Box 460 Old Town FL 32680 904/542-7636
Original Suwannee River CG Rt 3 Box 63 Old Town FL 32680 904/542-7680

never stayed at any of these, just places i pass when going to orlando. i take 27 to ocala then turnpike to 27 then to 192. i like the scenery and the fact that if i get bored i can stop and wander around the small towns along the way. hope it helps

I'm pretty sure it has been posted that The Fort is under a complete fire ban right now.

I was going to ask the same question..........thanks for the answer. How do find out or get updates on the fire ban at the Fort?

Well, you could try calling the Fort, but the CM's are frequently clueless and give conflicting information. The most reliable way is to check for notifications posted at the comfort stations.

Cindy-
Central Florida is extremely dry and all fires have been banned by Orange & Osceola Counties. That would include FtW. I don't know if that includes fire pits that have the screen covering. Call the front desk & ask for John or Mary. They would have the up to date info. CRO does not have a clue. Here's the # for the front desk: 407-824-2900.
Hope this helps.

Glad I called! From what they told me that if you have an enclosed fire-pit with a lid on the top then you can have a fire in your fire pit even if there is a ban.. :thumbsup2 We have been getting rain up here SAT. & Sun so hopefully you guys down south will get some rain too~! It's been real dry here.
So if you guys are there March 21 to March 28 look for my Disboard sign. I hope to have a fire in the fire pit. We sit around and swap stories!
Again thanks for the help!
