Hey Guys..firstly thank you so much for thinking of us and keeping my son in your prayers.
Bobby is still in the hospital. He is in A-fib. They have tried to bring his heart back to a normal rhythm with a couple of different medications..but it's not working. They did an echocardiogram this morning..found his aorta is slightly enlarged. Although cardiologist feels at this point that is a seperate issue from the Atrial fibrilation.(sorry sp?) My husband also happens to have an enlarged aorta..and it requires monitoring..and likely Bobby's will as well.
This A-fib could have different causes..and the stress he deals with at work, likely doesn't help. (He's a police officer NYPD in Manhattan). It was at work when he first felt ill. Light headed, and could feel his heart beating erracticaly in his chest. Although we did find out he had an episode while sleeping and woke from it..not knowing what it was. The main objective at this point is to get his heart back into a normal rhythm. While some people live with this, they are usually older (I know my dad has it). Since he's only 28, doctors want to see it back to a normal rhythm. This thrid medication along with blood thinners will either help it get back to a normal rhythm, or they will keep him on it, and bring him back to the hospital in four weeks and shock his heart back into a normal rhythm. Sounds scary to me, but they tell us it sounds worse than it is.
Of course for us...it brings back terrible memories of the worst time of our lives...I lost my older daughter due to cardiac issues. ..and while I have no reason to believe this is anything like what she had...it just puts you right back there. Bobby was 7 when we lost his sister..and well, it's something the three of us, have always had between us, when we were a different family. This kid held us together. Gave me a reason to get up in the morning. To go on and make a life for him. He's the reason I'm here today. Ahh..never mind, about that. Just keep a good thought, and keep him in your prayers..even those of you who don't pray..wing one up there for the kid...you never know. He's a good egg, and seen a lot in life for a kiddo his age.. and he busts his hump working at a job that there isn't enough money for most people to take.
Lord, I guess no matter how old they get...they're still your baby. I'm sorry to blubber on so much, just that I think of many of you as friends..some I've met, and some I hope to meet....but over the past few years.. I've come to know your hearts. Your good people. Thanks.:flower3:

Oh Phyllis! I had no idea you had lost a daughter! I am ....floored.....speachless! What amazing strength you have....
I just read this in my devotional book and I want to share it with you....
Health Words
There is that speak like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health. - Proverbs 12:18
I first learned the secret of words-faith words- when I spent 16 months on the bed of sickness, given up to die by 5 doctors.
But one August day in 1934, as I lay in that bed, I acted on Mark 11:23 and 24, and I said......! Words were spoken!
I said, "I believe that I receive healing for the deformed heart. I believe that I receive healing for the incurable blood disease. I believe that I receive healing for the paralysis. I believe I receive healing from the top of my head to the soles of my feet." Within the hour, I was standing on my feet beside the bed---Healed!
Now more than 65 years have come and gone, and I haven't even had a headache. And I won't have one. But if I did have one---which I haven't---I wouldn't say my head hurt. Why? Because Jesus said "....He shall have whatever he says" (Mark 11:23). If someone were to ask me in such a case how I was feeling I'd reply, "I'm fine, thank you. You see, the Word of God says that by his stripes I am healed. So I believe that I am healed. And the Word of God says....." And I would speak the right words--- for the tongue of the wise is health!
Confession: My tongue is health. It speaks words of life and health. I talk health. Therefore I walk in health.
Thanks for the update Phyllis. I will continue to keep your son and you in my prayers. I hope they can get everything under control. I also never knew about your daughter. I'm sorry you have been through so much.

"Blubber", now thats a great word ! I think it should be our official go to word when we could use a kind ear. The good lord knows everyone needs good willing friends to blubber with, from time to time.
So very sorry for your loss. I just can't imagine. We send all our prayers to your son, you and your family.

Oh Phyllis! I am stunned. I had no idea about your daughter. I am so sorry. You and your family are truly an incredible bunch!
I am sure your son is going to be fine!!! He's a big, strong, healthy guy. As soon as he comes out of A-fib, they can get cracking on what's going on. This sounds familiar to me. Something similar happened to my dh. I'll tell you about it some other time. In the meantime, you have enough on your mind. Thought I'd check in with you guys. I appreciate more than I can say all of you keeping my boy in your thoughts and prayers. Bobby is in a room now..after two days in the ER..the hospital is so full there weren't any beds available. He's certainly more comfortable in a room. He's on various meds to try and slow his heart rate..which is still too high..although lower than when he came into the hospital. He's still in A-fib. Again, being that his heart hasn't kick back to a regular rhythm yet..it's not likely it will ..but there's always the possibility. At this point the goal is to adjust the meds so as to keep the heart rate down. Keep him on the blood thinners and then bring him back to the hospital in four weeks to shock his heart back into a sinus rhythm. I really pray that it goes back itself. ALL these medications..I recognize so many of them because my dad is on them. But Jeeze...he's only 28, and too young for this stuff. He did have someone from the job call and say they had this happen also..and needed to have their heart shocked back to rhythm..and the guy said he felt great afterwards. I don't know about that.
His spirits are better..and he's up and walking around..since they are monitoring his heart at rest as well as when up and about. Figured he'd see what cute nurses might be at the nurses station. No good on the day shift..all appear to be married. Although they are attentive enough..I think they're just so glad to see someone under the age of 70 on the floor!
Makes me nervous.. all these medications. I know he needs them, but even he said he thinks he felt better before he came to the hospital and they started treating him with all this stuff. While he didn't feel great..he sure doesn't feel any better now. Hopefully that will change. Just, again.. kind of makes you wonder.
I can't tell you what a comfort it is to come here and see how many of you have taken time out of your busy lives to offer your support. You have no idea how much your kind words mean to me. I wish I could give each and everyone of you a big hug.

Phyllis, dear one, hang in there! It must be so difficult for you to see Bobby in this condition. Sometimes the meds need a few days to kick in. So, I'm hoping this will occur in the next day or two. They can do so much today regarding de-fib, and safely. He has his youth and being in great shape on his side - just remember that.
I'm glad they finally found a room for him. I had to wait in the ER for two days for a bed when I had CHF 5 years ago. It's okay, but the gurney was so uncomfortable!
I'm going to ask my Pastor to include Bobby in our altar prayer this morning. Miracles come thru prayer!

UPDATE
Well, I guess the Lord must have had a real busy Sunday with plenty of prayer requests for my son. Some point during the night Bobby's heart kicked back into sinus rhythm!
Yep...we can't believe it. Went up to the hospital this morning and the cardiologist came in with the good news. Right now..my son is upstairs taking a shower in his own house!
You heard me right..he's home!:woohoo:
The doctors were pretty surprised, as they felt if it hadn't gone back into it's natural rhythm by now..it wasn't likely to do so without being shocked.
Maybe the meds finally started working..maybe it's all those prayers that were coming in from all over..but what ever it is..IT WORKED!:yay:
He has plenty of meds that he came home on..and has to give himself an injectible blood thinner as well..but he's okay with that. Just happy to leave the hospital. He's got follow up in a couple of days with the cardiologist, and they are tweaking his meds..trying to find the right combinations of things. Hopefully, he won't need to be on them long..although there is one that they say he'll probably stay on.
In any case...he's tired..but home. Dr.'s warn that since this happened once..it may again. There's really just no way to know. Time will tell.
In the meantime, he's got some time off from work to rest, and tweak the meds. (probably drive me crazy...but I wouldn't have it any other way  ).
Saying "thank you" to all of you for keeping my son in your thoughts and prayers..well, it just seems so woefully inadequate. I wish I was more articulate...and could express to you all how grateful I am for your support and how all your good wishes have touched my heart. :grouphug:
