Welcome to the newest digi-challenge! This week we'll be doing a template challenge. I have come to love template challenges, especially when I see how everyone comes up with such different ideas. So, to quote Peter Pan,
"Come on, everybody! Here we go....."
For me, the best part of scrapbooking is telling the story, whether it's mostly through photos, journaling, or a little of both. But mostly I love the photos! The more photos I can get on a page, the better.
So, here is your challenge for the week - to tell a story. It doesn't matter what the story is, as long as it is about something Disney.
Here's my page that inspired this challenge. We picked at pearl at the Mitsusoshi Department Store in the Japan pavilion at Epcot for my friend Heather's birthday. Since she wasn't there, I wanted to be able to have her experience it through a scrapbook page, which in my opinion is the next best thing to being there. So I came up with this:
http://quiltymom.smugmug.com/photos/489341097_DMCji-L.jpg
Here's the journaling: "We went to the Mitsukoshi Department Store in Japan to purchase a very special birthday treat - a pearl - for Jan's friend, Heather. The kids chose the oyster, and before we knew it, the oyster was opened and we were looking at the beautiful pearl. The pearl is now ready to be measured and shown off - it is a 7-1/4 mm pink pearl, all ready to be set into a necklace for Heather."

Here are the rules:
Tell a story. It can be of a particular ride, experience, silly moment, favorite foods you ate, or about an entire trip. You can even use it as the end page summary or the first page of a trip album. It's yours to decide.
Use 6 photos. No more, no less. If you want to add an extraction, say of a sign or something, that would be okay, but it doesn't count as a photo.
The photos must stay in a line.
Have a title that can be either an alpha or text.
Journal and tell the story.
That's it!
Here's the link for the template. It has both the .png files and a .page file for those who use SBC+.
click here for the template (http://www.box.net/shared/q4ehazk4be)
Note: Even though it doesn't show it here, the template was created for use in a StoryBook, so it was intended for the photos will bleed off of the page. But if you're just doing a page print, then it won't bleed. Either way is okay by me - I just wanted to let ya'll know, just in case.
I'll pick two winners at random just because it's so hard to choose. And thanks to our wonderful friend Brittney, I have a fantastic prize for the winners!
ScrapMatters has a brand new designer, Megan (pronounced Meegan) Turnidge, and she has graciously offered to donate the prizes for this week. Each winner will receive a $10.00 gift certificate to her store. Now, isn't that fantastic? Please be sure to check out Megan's store to see her fantastic products. She has a little bit of everything there, from full kits to hybrid goodies to page templates, even the cutest little felt cupcakes! Here's the link (http://scrapmatters.com/shop/manufacturers.php?manufacturerid=64) for you. Be sure to tell her "hi" and that you heard about her on the challenge.
Have fun, and I can't wait to see what ya'll do!

the link works absolutely fine. A quick question, i have only ever used psd templated before, does each png work as a separate layer? This is probably a silly question Gill
quiltymom
03-11-2009, 09:21 AM
Yes, I set up the the .png's as separate layers, so hopefully they will work okay for you. Let me know if they don't.

I added strips for the journaling. I hope it's okay. I got a little carried away with the bling, but wanted to convey all it takes to make a princess. :) It's all about the accessories.
I was waiting for the perfect inspiration for these BBB pictures from 2007. Thanks for the wonderful template and inspiration! You're awesome! Thanks for hosting!

Susan,
How adorable! I just love all that bling, especially the way you dotted the "i" in Princess. And yes, it is the accessories that make a princess (I love that line - I just may need to use it sometime!).
I'm glad that the template helped you get your page done. And I do love what you did with the journaling. Very creative! Changing templates around a bit is what makes them so much fun. You start with the basics and then have fun! And your DD is just adorable. The smile on her face just says it all. It's a precious page for a special girl! Great job.

Here's mine. This was hard for me, because I usually only use one or two pictures. Six was really a stretch for me, but I'm glad I did this because I really wanted to scrap the "beauty of Disney". Thanks QuiltyMom!

Journaling: Looking around Disney World, there are many amazing sights. Sure we all have photos of Cinderella's castle, but if you look beyond the obvious, you can see the real beauty of Disney World, right before your eyes.

This is what is so fun about hosting a challenge, seeing what everyone makes.
mumloveseeyore - You chose to scrap my favorite Disney parade! How fun is this. I just love that thing. I've got the song in my head now. Your embellishments - and that title - are so cute. They go along great with the fun theme of the parade. And I love that background paper. Purple rules! And good job in finding that fun & creepy font for your journaling.
boBQuincy - I love the way you spread one photo onto two template spots! That is certainly very clever. Seeing it was one of those "a-ha" moments for me. Yes, I could do that if I wanted to! Good job on your first template. Your photos are stunning, and the simplicity of the design just makes the photos pop off of the page. Great job!
BooToo - What you did is one of the ways I love to use multi-photo pages, to bring photos from here and there that you otherwise don't know what to do with and put them together like that. You did good in going outside of your comfort zone. The papers are perfect, and I love the way you put your date in one of the boxes in the bottom border. BTW - what font did you use for the title? I like it!
I can't wait to see more!

I went and downloaded it last night. I wanted a really striking font for that layout. It's from Urban Fonts and it's called PORCELAIN. I'm a font junkie. I love using new fonts. Thanks!

Hi Gill,
What I used behind my journaling was a Stamp tab from the kit. I resized it to fit. I thought it made the journaling easier to read.

Sweet! I feel like it has been forever since I did one of these challenges. I'm finally back to working on Disney pictures, so i can join in now! AND you did the template for SBC+, too! How cool is that? I'm going to an all day crop tomorrow and this challenge will be my first order of business! Thanks! I'm excited to play!

I made some changes to the background on my LO to try and mimic the concrete texture of the Contemporary Resort.
This has been a really helpful challenge, everyone has some great ideas (that I don't mind shamelessly "borrowing" for some of my future LOs). If all the challenges are like this one I am going to learn a lot from the creative people on this board! I have not done a lot of scrapbooking and it's great to see how others use all the little touches that really make the page.
Thanks so much quiltymom! :)

You're welcome, and yes - you'll learn more than you think by sticking around and doing these challenges. The best way I found to learn to do something new is to try to copy what someone has done. So, scraplifting is a way of life for all of us here. Join the club. You'll fit right in!

Janis - I think that I would've cried if Mickey & Minnie showed up at my reception, or any reception for that matter. I love the photos that you used of everyone laughing and having fun. I like the little border you put around the page. It's such a fun LO with all of the bright colors.

My first entry in a few weeks. :) I don't know why, but this LO took me forever to finish! The pics tell the story of the boat ride from Downtown Disney back to the French Quarter. I've been wanting to scrap this for a while, but I never liked the setup of my page. This template was perfect, thanks!! Click for credits

I haven't gotten to participate in awhile, but husand is sick, weather is yucky, and it was a perfect day to get to play on the computer. Thanks for the template, it was a lot of fun.
I used a kit from sweet shoppe designs called "he said, she said"
http://i210.photobucket.com/albums/bb96/strega7/Butterflycons.jpg
The journaling reads....
"April 22, 2007 - On our Disney Cruise, at our first stop, Key West, we decided to take the trolley to the southern most point of the United States. There at the bottom of the United State lies a beautiful place full of butterflies..."
"Upon entering this magical place, we were told that if by chance a butterly lands on you, it will brng you good luck. There were six people in our party, and out of all six, only one had a butterfly land on their head. The lucky member of our group was Dominic...he was so lucky he not only had one, but two butterflies land on him."

Wow - lots of great pages have been posted!
mommyofthreeboys - What fun, bright colors! Your elements are so much fun. I love the way you used both the frame and the arrow to point out/highlight the photo with your DD (at least I think that it's your DD!). Your page is really fun!
VacationKicks - Welcome to the digi-challenges. You'll find that they are quite addicting, and lots of fun. And what a great page. It's perfect for the Wilderness lodge. Oh, how I wish we could afford to stay there again! I really like the way you brought us from point A to point B with both of the hotel buildings included. Great job!
kswm30b - Heather, it's good to have you back! I wish that I could've taken that boat ride in the daytime, but the only chance we rode it was late at night (we stayed at POR). I especially like your tear strip at the bottom of the LO. And the little bit of bling behind your title brings out the sparkle in the alpha. And that's a great shot of the boat in transit. It's a wonderful LO.
And CAVEA001 - HA! You're too much! And you were much braver than I was. Here's the thumbnail of the LO I did with my sneaky pics from when the exhibit was at the Smithsonian in D.C. (You can click on it to see it full sized.)
http://www.scrapmatters.com/gallery3/data/752/thumbs/Jim_Henson_Exhibit.jpg (http://www.scrapmatters.com/gallery3/showphoto.php/photo/9752)
At first I thought, how did she get those pics? Then I saw your "no photos" tag. It's a fun LO, and I love the way you put the bracket behind the bottom one. It's a great effect.
strega7 - Welcome back to you, too. What great photos. My DD would adore that place. It's hard to get pics of those butterflies since they move around so much. The kit is so colorful, just the thing to highlight the butterflies. It's definitely a fun story. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Fantastic template, Quiltymom! :thumbsup2 I was hoping to get mine done since I have the perfect set of pictures from our trip, but I've been sick ever since we got back from WDW on Saturday. Sound familiar, Heather? Great challenge - love the template you gave us - it was a little harder with the smaller paper size I use but still love the end result. This is my daughter getting sketched out at Disneyland (in New Orleans Square). The other side will have the title and finished photo (but that is still packed so I can take a photo of it yet).

It was so much fun to see you come to life on paper. The artist did a great job of keeping you entertained, and daddy sat on the other side while I was behind him when you wouldn’t look. The result is a beautiful framed photo that we will always cherish.

All the layouts are beautiful - neat to see how varied all the layouts are. The template was great - love to put lots of pictures on each page -- but I agree with CAVEA001 this was harder for me to do - maybe because the pictures are more similar than I would usually have on one page when I have lots of pictures.
Anyway great challenge. BTW mine is dated 12:19am on my thing but right now it is only 11:30pm (PST) so hope mine still made it in!

I'm back. And welcome again to all of the new players this week. It's great to have you here!
RRBB - I like the way that you changed the shapes of the photo boxes to fit your pics! Your choice of papers and ribbons are perfect. And your story makes me be even more excited about our upcoming cruise! What a fun story to scrap.
Photobee - You're correct, that kit does work well with the subject. I loved that stunt show. It's easy to take too many photos, but you did a fantastic job of getting the highlights down. I especially like your first photo that shows the whole set. Nice job.
albumlady - What a sweet story! I'm sorry that you had to make and ER visit on your vacation, but it looks as if it turned out well. Your DD looks absolutely beautiful! And it's fitting that you put a pic of her hospital bracelet in there, too. The kits you used are great - I especially like the frames around the photos. The whole LO is so nice and sweet.
janette - it's fun to see the story behind the photo in your signature! You did a great job with the papers and elements in giving your LO the feel of the paintings. And I particularly like the scalloped edgings. It gives a fun feel to it all.
Krisi - I like the way the template looks in that size! It works well. And please post the second page when you have it done. I'd love to see it. Your circles bring out the fun of it all, especially the borders. I've always seen those artists there at DL, and maybe next time we'll get a portrait done!

Hello again!
This is a friendly reminder that we need people to host our weekly digi-challenges. The good thing is that there is no experience at hosting required! It's fun to do, just come up with an idea for a page and post it for all to see, then watch what is created and leave some love for everyone who posts a LO!
Here's where you can sign up: Dis Digi Challenge Hosts - Sign up here! (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1913828)
Just pick a week that works for you and post that week on the thread so it can be added to the list. That's it!
Have a great day --
