Has anyone been to the wine tasting class? I went, and I am trying to remember something which was done in the class. They took a bottle of champagne, and a knife, and rubbed the knife along the seam, and removed the whole whole glass end of the bottle where the cork is inserted. This was a very impressive task, and I was wanting to try it, but I can't remember, did they use a smooth blade knife, or a serated edge knife? Also, does anyone know how many scrapes you make before you try to pop the top off with the knite? Thanks for any help anyone may have. I might just have to sign up for another cruise to learn how to do it again!
We just saw that done on the 5/18 Eastern...it looked to me like he used the straight end of a butter knife. The "scrapes" that you referred to just looked like the preparation to get ready to pop off the cork...I don't know that it did anything to help with it coming off other than get the persons hand/wrist ready to pop off the cork with one quick swing of the wrist. My DH has been wanting to try it also.

It doesn't matter which side of the knife you use.....he even did it for us with the foot of a wine glass!

The original way that this is done is actually with a sword and there is a very exclusive club where only a handful of people are able to do it. Saw it on the Food Network

Thanks for all the posts.. I am going to buy the cheapest bottle I can find just to try it! I am having a ladies breakfast here on Thursday, and of course Mimosa's are on the menu, so I thought it would be fun. It's our last social fling before the kids are out for the summer. I'll let you know how/if it works.
