I hope this is not a different spin on an old topic but.............
I have heard that members of the armed service often wear dress uniforms for the formal night.
Do any civil servants wear their dress uniforms. IE: police, firefighters etc ?

I didn't see any on our cruise, but I'm sure if you wear it, you'll get many compliments. I'd say to go for it :)

I send you a warning message. The women will be going goo-goo over any man dressed in uniform. I am one of them :D. I think a police or fire dress uniform would be awesome. We had gentlemen dressed in Formal Scottish Kilts. They looked snazzy too

Everyone in America is so greatful to our military, fire fighters, police officers etc. (sorry if I missed someone here).
Please, wear your uniforms with pride so that I might be able to thank you for the sacrifices both you and your family make for our wonderful country.

great idea...wear the uniform...awesome! I agree that you will have everyone drooling over you if you show up dressed like that. Don't worry about others, they would probably feel the same as we do.

I know that it would be an honor for my family and I to be at dinner with anyone who serves our nation (military, police firefighters etc.) and having them in uniform would make it more special. Wear your uniform with pride !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks to all who responded. You are all very supportive and I appreciate it very much. Our next cruise is only three days but we are planning a seven day western soon and I think I will go with the dress uniform.

I'm a guy and I'm getting teary eyed thinking about it. I would wear and military/service uniform. Don't the Marines wear swords (I can think of the proper term) with their dress uniforms. I could see that might be a problem boarding...
I was crying this morning watching "K9 to 5" this morning on Animal Planet. A local (to me) police dog was honored for injuries sustained in apprehending a suspect. He had to retire, which you could tell hurt both the dog and his handler.
As a Police Officer my dress uniform would include my service weapon. Therefore not carrying my weapon would not have me in my proper uniform. However for others who don't carry a weapon it would be appropriate. I am very proud to be a police Officer and wear my uniform to perform my duties with pride.

infobahn.....you are not alone in getting teary eyed. My hubby is Port Authority Police in NY/NJ and his friend's K-9 partner was the only police dog killed during the 9/11 attack at WTC. His friend (also PAPD) was on the news quite a few times talking about how he missed his partner. It was very touching... he become so attached to the family. His kids were very upset also. We recently saw him on a show with his new dog in training!!!

I think that is the most wonderful idea ever. My husband is in the Coast Guard and we just did the 4 night but can't wait to go on the 7 night in the next year or two. I will definately make sure we bring his uniform. He looks so awesome in it. And he will have several more ribbons by then so he will look really spiffy!! :D
