Hi, I am taking my family for my Ds's 2nd birthday and my mum's 60th birthday in July. I am toying between the two hotels and would appreciate your input!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
I stayed in Sequoia about 10 years ago now and to be honest didn't think much of it, but my mum fancies it and as its her birthday I was going to book it.
However, I have since read the thread on here which says the state of the rooms isn't great at Sequoia (and I know this was the case when I went - albeit a long time ago - so I am a bit worried!!), plus Hotel New York is one of only two DLP hotels I haven't tried so it would be good to cross it off the list so to speak!!;)
What would you recommend?? It will cost us an extra £110 total for our 3 night break to Hotel New York - I didn't think that was too bad but still is it worth the upgrade??:confused3
thanks for your opinions!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
After reading the reviews of late I would definitely go for the Hotel New York. I really enjoyed this hotel a couple of years ago and the pool is lovely. It is more a grown up hotel rather than a kiddie hotel. The only thing I didn't like about HNY was the fact that there wasn't a seating area round Reception and I love to watch the world go by. Everything else there was spot on and the breakfast rooms are great

thanks Roon - will it still be ok for my two children (they will be 5 and 2) or will they be frowned upon!!:lmao:

we stayed at s. lodge for our 1st stay in feb '08 and really liked our room and the hotel surroundings. However, we didn't find the service that good and the breakfast scrum/timings (i.e having to get up at 7am for our slot) became a bit of a pain.
This year we stayed at the new york and loved it! everything about the hotel was great for us - the atmosphere, no breakfast timings (can do emh and then go back to the manhattan for a lovely cooked breakfast) and the service was so much better! Even when my son was very sick all over his bed at 1.30 am, the receptionist was very helpful, and in less than 10 mins of contacting them, we had 2 staff members at the door with towels, complete set of linen, and took away the dirty bedding still with a smile!!!!:crazy2:
I'm sure you would def be pleased if you upgraded!!:thumbsup2
Some people might be put off that it is classed as more grown up - but we didn't find this at all and have ds, 8 and dd, 4. I actually preferred that it was a little more 'calm' , but think that this is because it has half of the number of rooms of the S.L, hence a lot less people!
Oh no not at all. It is lovely and I remember when we went back after our evening Mickey Mouse was always in the hotel dancing, it was like the New Yorks own private show. Don't know if this still goes on but you will love it. It is very stylish and the porters all wear lovely uniforms in a deep turquoise blue. I'm feeling I want to go back.
As I said, Sequoia has always been the one we go back to as I have always liked the fires and the sitting areas, but after reading the reviews on here, I don't think we will return there, it sounds as it if it is in need of a refurb.

I've stayed at both, SL a few years ago and HNY last week. i wouldn't stay anywhere else now but the HNY. the room was lovely, we could see the lake and Disney Village. all the staff friendly and very helpful and DD (8) loved it, there was no shortage of Disney characters there for the odd photo call. the pool was nice but a bit cold and no shallow end but there were plenty of arm bands and floats
where ever you choose i'm sure you'll have a fantastic time

We've stayed at SL in Sept 06 and Apr 08 and HNY in Dec 08. When we do go back again, I wld probably stay in HNY again if there're any good deals around. It is a lovely hotel and it's closer to the park as well (which was a bonus as we have 2 little kiddies). I also thought that it would be a 'grown-ups only' hotel and I was quite relieved to see lots of little ones running around everywhere (and also in the bar!):) .

Definately HNY, I haven't stayed there myself, but have stayed at SL twice and wasn't impressed either timeso added to the current spate of unfavourable reviews of SL, I'd say HNY is the clear winner.:)

Hello, NYH for me as well!
We have stayed at the SL but DH prefers the NYH.
Hot breakfast, close to the park, classier hotel.
The hotel is more compact so not alot of walking once inside.
No worries re children staying there. Lots of characters in the hotel for the children.
Manhatten restaurant for breakfast is lovely.

Wonderful comments! I've also been debating between SL and HNY for our October visit. We'll be staying on DVC points, so there's still an 'upgreade' for staying at HNY over SL. We'll have to see if we can swing it. Thanks again!!
