I am not sure if this is the place to ask, but I am hoping that you would be able to give me suggestions on where a good place would be to propose at Disney. I will be visiting Disney in the next few months with my partner, and think it would be the perfect setting. Right now, I am leaning more towards a private type of area instead of in a restaurant or in front of the Castle (I don't want to hear any "comments" about why 2 women are getting engaged and have any outside negativity ruin our special day.) Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

A friend of mine just got engaged at the Lighthouse out on the water behind the Yacht Club, very nice, very private!
Also the Rose Garden and the Wishing Well at the MK tend to be pretty private in the evening.
Congrats by the way!

I say not to worry about what other people say and do it where you want to! Neither of you will be paying ANY attention to what's going on around you anyway.
If you're looking for a more quiet place, how about the wishing well near Cinderella's Castle? It's a very romantic little spot. And you can begin with. "Do you know what I wished for?", then go down on one knee . . .
There's also the small storytime area near there that's desserted when there isn't a show going on.

Congratulations! I don't know any romantic spots but I do know that you ladies will not be paying attention to any one else but each other during that very special moments. Can't wait to hear what you come up with.

Hmmm
A few more ideas. The rooftop of the Contemporary as the fireworks go off! Go out on the deck near the restrooms for the California Grill, pretty secluded on that deck. How about a carriage ride at Fort Wilderness or Port Orleans?

Take a walk between the Polynesian and Grand Floridian and propose in front of the Wedding Pavillion?

Hey. Congratulations! :goodvibes
I had a friend who proposed to her partner at the Wedding Pavilion. Beautiful, quiet, and sets the mood.
Let us know how it goes! ::yes::

If you want to consider EPCOT, there are several garden areas in the different countries. There is the lovely garden in the UK. The one in Canada, and the little one on the hill in Japan. They would be a bit private.
There is also the beach at the BC, Poly, WL, FW, GF...
There is the covered area at the BW where many folks have their ceremony.
There is the walkway from the BW to DHS. Lots of privacy there.
You could rent a boat and ask her on the water somewhere...no one to disturb you.
There are little places on the grounds of many of the resorts that are picturesque and rather private. ::yes::
Wherever you decide to ask her, I know it will be perfect! :thumbsup2

Depending on the time of year you go, the beaches at the Polynesian and the Grand Floridian tend to be very romantic and, most of all, vacant starting around 10pm. Plus, the canopies can make it a bit more private and cozy. The lake tends to act as a nice metaphor for "Open and endless opportunities"....dontcha think? :rolleyes1

1) Dont worry about public reation. It's your moment. Most people are at Disney to have a good time, and while you might get some cheers jeers are very unlikely.
2) Dont be afraid to ask cast members to help you. Most of them will be more than happy to help you set up a suprise of some sort.

We did it (well, not IT, but you know what I mean) last Christmas by the wishing well near the Castle (Disneyland). We got caught up in the moment and didn't pay one bit of attention to anyone around us and obviously neither did anyone else.
It was SO romantic. I might have even shed a tear or two.
I'm not tellin'......

Wow! So many suggestions! Thank you so much! You are right that I shouldn't worry about anyone else's reaction and just focus on myself and my partner. I really like the Wedding Pavilion idea and the Wishing Well in Magic Kingdom!
I have also been looking at the special room packages or gifts that you can have setup for when you return to your room. Has anyone every done this before? I'm just curious if you are able to pick a specific time frame to have it setup. If I was going to plan the surprise for early evening and then head into the parks for a few hours, would everything be arranged for when we returned?
I was also thinking about calling ahead and having them make a note on my reservation that I was going to propose that week. I am just scared that when we check-in a Cast Member will mention it and ruin the surprise.

Congrats!!!!
I did it in front of the castle and my partner loved it.
But there are so many nice, private areas everywhere. Definitely check out pics of the UK garden. It's really pretty and usually no one is there!

You may want to propose during the fireworks. You get the magic of the event plus the privacy factor of no one more than 1 foot away from you will even hear what your discussing!

We returned from our trip yesterday where my now fiancé and I were engaged! I can finally come clean and admit I was the one that started this thread. My gf used to visit the site occasionally and I didn’t want her to have any idea what I was planning before we left. I just wanted to thank everyone for your ideas, suggestions, and well wishes!
I am hoping to write a more elaborate and detailed description for our TR, but for now I'll just give you a quick summary (or now as I'm done maybe not so quick) of how it all happened.
During our drive down, I still hadn't decided between two places, either the beach at the Polynesian during Wishes, or in MK on the bridge to Tommorowland where Tink flies over your head during Wishes. After arriving and realizing that we couldn’t book the Luau Show at all during our stay, I decided that the next night at the MK would be the night! We spent a leisurely day at Hollywood Studios and headed to Magic Kingdom that night. We were rushing a bit to try to get the park before Wishes to get a spot on the bridge. We finally get there with about 2 min to spare. Ashley then starts to occupy herself with our camera trying to get a good picture of Tink as she flies down. She starts getting frustrated because she couldn’t find the correct setting and then tries to videotape it. I kept trying to tell her to not worry about it and we will be back another night to see her again. As Tink comes out of the Castle Ashley starts to follow her with the camera and once she turns her back to me I grab the ring out of my bag and got down on one knee (all while shaking a bit) I tapped her on the ankle cause I wanted to make sure she didn’t trip over me when she turned around. As she turns I look up at her and asked her if she would Marry Me. She just looked at me completely stunned and said "Are you Serious??" After a few seconds of shock she realized I was holding a ring (she later told me she thought I had found something on the ground and I wanted to show it to her) and said Yes! She still didn't move at all (it took her quite a while for it all to sink in) so I stood up (still shaking) and put the ring out her finger as fireworks were going off all around us! It was the most perfect and memorable experience that neither of us will ever forget!

if you go to EPCOT there is a beautiful fountain in Morroco behind some of the front buildings that hardly anyone knows about. also there is a really nice cafe in France.

Thank you everyone so much!!! We truly appreciate all your well wishes and congratulations!
The wedding plans are in the pre-pre-pre stages right now. NJ is currently "working" on getting marriage legalized but we have no idea of when that may actually happen. We do have civil unions to fall back on if we decide not to wait for marriage.
Here are a few pictures of us that night. My friend was supposed to take pictures as I was proposing but she had a problem with her camera and wasnt able to get any shots of it actually happening. She also hasn't uploaded her pictures yet, so I only have ones from about 15min after it happened.
Here we are on the TTA aka People Mover

My friend Jen made us pose like this

And then later that night, I made Ashley let me take this pic

Oh, now that is a charmer. I am not a romantic person, but I remember a book called "The World's Greatest Proposals." That idea would have qualified for an entry in that book.
