View Full Version : Make Up At Wdw Do You Wear It???

I gave up on make up at WDW years ago, as it tends to run down your face and you look like the Bride of Frankenstein..oops that is Universal STudios..heheehee

Somewhere here I read once a long while back that some make up is better than others in the heat of Florida. I use the regular over the counter brands sold at discount stores, nothing fancy here.

Any advice anyone has is helpful...also am I the only make upless female at WDW...

I'm always amazed at how many women with perfect hair and makeup are running around WDW. How do they do that?!?!

In cooler weather, I wear all of my makeup, including foundation. When it's hot, I skip the foundation and use loose powder instead. Put it on very very lightly or it will cake and look crappy.
I use waterproof mascara, and a little tinted lipgloss.

I don't even bother with my hair at WDW - I usually just wear a visor all day.

I wear makeup, but I always wear very light makeup anyway, so it tends to not run much. I find that powder is essential with sunscreen, since I already have oily skin and powder reduces the shine. And of course, powder makes your face look pale, so I don't have much of a choice after that. I wear Estee Lauder mascara, and it does seem to wash off well. When you get wet, it just sort of disolves without running down your face. It doesn't stay on all day when you ride wet rides and sweat, but at least it doesn't smear.

I never wear foundation (skin too oily, don't like the feel) but I do dot concealer on my "trouble spots" (I have genetic dark circles under my eyes). I use Revlon Colorstay and I have never had a problem with it not staying put. I live in Houston, so I know the ins-and-outs of what makeup works in the heat & humidity.
I also use Max Factor waterproof mascara, Revlon Colorstay eyeliner, and L'oreal eye shadows with no problems.
I still haven't figured out a good shade of lipstick and what brand will stay put without giving me "lip cracklies," since I have very dry lips.

The reasons why I love weekends and WDW... no make up and no pantyhose! Life just doesn't get any better. A shower, shorts, t-shirt and ponytail and this gals ready to go! Thankfully, I inherited my Mother's youthful skin.

You are not alone in the makeupless department.

I went this last May, and I just did not bother with any primping. And it felt so GREAT!!!!
I wore sunscreen, sunglasses, and lipstick. My hair went up in a ponytail, which I had not worn for years, along with a hat.
I made sure I had super comfy sandals, and I wore those great tank tops with the shelf bra built in. Didn't bring them, but made a quick trip to Wal-Mart for a few. I was sooo cranky the first days when I wore a seperate bra.
I even wore men's bathing suit trunks instead of shorts when we were at Universal/IOA, so I could get just as wet as my kids, and dry off quickly.
I could not believe the ladies walking around in jeans, high heals, hair perfectly done, more power to them, but I would have died in the 92-95 degree heat.

I use Bare Ecsentuals. It is a loose powder foundation and is made from minerals. All their products are made from natural minerals and are wonderful for oily skin and for when you're going to be in heat and humidity. I LOVE this stuff! I order it from QVC. You can go to QVC.com and then follow the menu selection to beauty and to BareEcsentuals. It's a little more pricey than Revlon or the like, but it lasts forever.

I do foundation and cover-up stick. Especially because of the sunblock in it. Plus, I'm really fair-complected and my skin gets blotchy in the heat, so it helps "even" me out. Then I keep a powder compact in my pack so I can powder my nose. ;)

I hate wearing make up so I rarely wear it at WDW. The only time I wore it was for dinner at Cali Grill and a night out at Pleasure Island...and I wore makeup because I wore a skirt those two nights.

I actually wore it everyday and I don't wear it at home that often...

I used my needing to put make-up on as an excuse to get my Fiance to drive to the parks each morning and I did it in the car.

I didn't want to drive while there because I had driven 3/4 of the way down from Canada and was tired of the drive.

My fiance is sooo nice that he didn't call me on it even though I think he caught on by day 3...:D

maaayybee lipstick, but that's it! I like the au natural feel while on vacation. DH is so sweet, he says every time how beautiful he thinks I am without it. He is such a sweetie... i think, however, that its just because it takes me less time to get ready and we're out the door quicker!

On vacation in WDW I wear moisturizer with sunscreen and waterproof mascara. My eyelashes are very light, so I feel better wearing the mascara, otherwise my eyes look like they are puny. I might add a little lipstick for a nice dinner out!

While I'm there it's only cover stick! And I actually wear minimal makeup year round. BUT after we develope the pictures I always think, ummm maybe I should invest in some? We always see the perfect hair, makeup ladies too, but we do rest breaks and showers during the day and still don't pull that look off? I think some of it is permanetly applied? Why else isn't it dripping off? Maybe is some kind of tatoo makeup? MKY

Kermit: what kind of mascara from estee lauder? I hate mascar cause it makes my dark circles worse than ever when you remove it, this stuff sounds great!

Yes, I wear mine EVERYDAY!;) I even go back to the room, after a nap, and shower and Refresh the Make-up for late afternoon/evenings! I wear Cover Girl Fresh Look in Classic Tan....I am on my LAST container, and I cannot find it ANYMORE here in S. Fla.! I am hoping to find it in Ga. when I go in 4 days! Anyone can help me with this, I would Appreciate it!:o

mkymouse4ever, it's called More than Mascara. I do only put one coat on (but that's all you'll need), and I don't put any on my lower lashes. That takes a little getting used to if you normally do the top and bottom, but the top is all you really need in the daytime anyway.

Limmer
06-02-2002, 09:14 AM
All I use is a moisturizer with sunscreen and a lip balm with sunscreen (sunburned lips REALLY hurt). If we go somewhere nice for dinner I add a little lipstick and mascara, but that's it.

BethC1952
06-02-2002, 10:06 AM
I NEVER leave my house (or hotel room!) without eyeliner and mascara, both waterproof. The mascara is Cover Girl marathon, and I can't remember what the eyeliner is and I'm too comfortable here on my sofa to go upstairs t look! I wear glasses, and without eye makeup it looks like I have no eyes!

That being said, I wear a natural bronze lipstick with sunscreen in it, and lots of whatever #45 sunscreen I have on my face. I've had skin cancer. I don't take chances! I carry a little bottle of astringent in my day bag, and every couple of hours, I wipe my face and reapply the sunscreen. This prevents me from getting those oh-so-unphotogenic spots and blotches all over.

As for my hair--it's long, so I wear it up--a ponytail, a bun, a braid pinned out of the way--nothing fancy. And I always wear a big, floppy brimmed hat (the skin cancer thing). My beautiful, even tan is thanks to Neutrogena's Sunless Tanning spray!

I can't figure out how the "high-heel" set even manages to walk around all day, never mind how they walk around without messing up the hair and makeup.

I wear makeup. I wear mojave magic morsurizing tint with sunscreen(very light coverage) and I use mojave magics yellow powder(that's the key for whoever posted about powder "pailing" them. Also
Mojave magic tinted lip conditioner (with sunscreen in it) ladys you have got to try this stuff it is the smoothest lipstick ever, my lips actually feel better from using this stuff.
All available thru QVC by the way. I haven't found a mascara I love yet, but I use something waterproof. A little bronzer and I'm good. I have no problem with this regiman in any heat. All of it is very light. Just discovered the Mojave Magic and I'm in love, it all just is hints of color the way I like it.

Great idea about the men's swim-shorts IOWA girl!
I bought LANDS END's womens tank top and shorts (prob. same material) for probably 5X the price - but I must admit the bennie of getting soaked and drying off quick is worth it!

Those of you liking the mens shorts...try this. Target carries board shorts for women. They are bathing suit material and cut like long shorts...perfect if you have a small waist and bigger thighs. Pair them with a tank or tankini top and you are set.

As for makeup...only for dinner at V & A...otherwise...moisturizer with sunscreen and lip gloss (with sunscreen)...and a ponytail or a visor...and sunglasses...don't forget to protect the eyes ladies!

I always wear Lancome waterproof mascara. It keeps the curl in my lashes (sadfully lacking) so I feel naked w/o it. Also, Lancome sunblock and Avon lip sunblock. I don't bother too much from there. Add blush, eyeliner, and lipstick for the special times.

On our first trip in July, the weather was scorching and my eye makeup looked great all day. I found out pretty quickly to put my hair up in a clip to cool off. With the right twists and curls, it didn't look too bad!

My big debate now is to go ahead with schedualed appt. locally at $4000. or to go on a big vaca to Niagra Falls and have it done for $1100, then we get a vaca too and it will still be chaeper total! I am researching it now! I can't believe how much cheaper it is in Canada!
Either way it is getting done and I can't wait!

Shelly
06-05-2002, 12:26 PM
Wow, I think I would take the vacation. But why is it cheaper? Is that in us dollars?

pattyT
06-05-2002, 01:06 PM
I ti sin US dollars.
I asked my consultant at the optometrists and she made it sound unregulated by stating that 'In Canada they treat it like having your ears pierced and have interns doing it in malls" she actually scared me (granted I understand why)
Then yesturday at my sons 18 month I asked my physician and she said the lower price was because Canada has lower mal-practice therefore much lower malpractice insurance. She just said that if I chose to go to Canada I should stay there a full week to make sure I don't get an infection etc. But if you are going to have a problem you will usually know within the first few days after.

OK - I just have to add something to the makeup thing....

I always wear some form of make-up. I have to wear a little concealer - I like Prescriptives Virtual Skin or Camoflauge in the little tubes. Then I wear powder - something from Physician's Formula (I put it on with a brush, so it's really light). OH - I always put concealer on my eyelids - it evens out the color so I don't HAVE to wear eyeshadow, and it helps make the eyeliner and shadow stick.

For sweat-proof eyeshadow, Estee Lauder makes something called "Go Wink" in a little tube. It is very light and creamy - dries to powder. And shimmery (oooooh)...

Eyeliner is either Revlon Colorstay, Lancome Stylo Eyeliners OR Mac eyeshadow in a dark color (wet or dry).

Mascara - anything waterproof from Lo'real - but not on the bottom lashes.

That's it! Sounds like a lot - takes 2 minutes, and lasted all day in 90++ degrees when I was just there!

OH - last thought - if you have an eyeshadow that is the same color as an eyeliner, dab a little on the line and it sets the liner.

Also - I am very jealous of the LASIKs.

I never wear make-up unless I have to. No offense ladies, but I am not out to snag a man or get a job at Disney. I look at it as more time I have to spend getting ready when I could be out the door to the mouse!

I just wear sunscreen and mascara and eyeliner. Short hair so that's no problem. However, I have to ask, IowaGirl, do you have any idea how those tank-tops with the built in bras are for the more chesty ladies?? I'ld love to wear them, I hate that strap-slipping feeling, but I'm not sure how they'ld be with my build. 5'8" with a d cup. Any thoughts anyone??? I'm going in Aug '03 and the thought of any extra clothing is repulsive.

OH - I didn't see the built in bra question.....

I wear a DD - and I can't wear one of those tanks in public - except for the really heavy spandex ones that smoosh everything tight and unmoving. And those are toooooo hot.

I'd try a couple on - Target has some cute ones - and dance around in the dressing room and test it out a bit.

Goofy4Tink--
I was little self-conscious about running around without a bra, too, but I'm only a A/B:D
I am not sure what I'd recommend, except that I feel you should wear whatever you feel comfortable in, and who cares what other people think. My first day in 95 degree heat with a seperate bra and tee-shirt just about did me in, so I've learned my lesson.
My sister who is a D has a couple of bathing suit tank tops with kind of a double, more durable cup system built in. I think she bought them at Layne Bryant or a plus size catalog. I'll have to ask her.

As for board shorts, I'd still feel obligated to wear underwear!!! If men can wear those swim shorts with the net underwear, so can I!!!!!

Oh yeah - guys swim trunks are the way to go. They are lightweight - long enough - they don't bind or chafe. AND - ya can't beat the little meshie undies.

PLUS - the pockets are always AWESOME.

My favorite ones I bought at Target - when I go creek hikin' I wear those with a tankini top. Very comfy.

I must wear the makeup as a sunscreen. A regular sunscreen just does not work or last long enough on my extremely fair skin. I use some sunblock or moisturizer with sunblock and then I use one of those foundation powders. You are right...the liquid moisturizer can keep the heat in!

I like "L'Oreal Breathable Long Wearing Foundation" and "Cover Girl Simply Powder Foundation". They are both light and last very long. And they don't feel "hot" when you wear them.:D

Hi! I've been catching up on this thread.

Regarding the Lasik--You will love it!!!! I had mine done last June and am thankfull everyday! Thirty years of glasses and contacts erased in thirty seconds. I know I sound like a zealot, but it's wonderful!!!

You are right, seeing at the pool is wonderful!

As far as makeup goes, I've only been to Disney in January. I always wore my regular make-up until this past trip. It was unbelievably warm in Jan 2002. 80 degrees most days, and very humid. My hair was mangled as soon as I stepped out into the humidity I could almost feel my make up sliding off..... I think I know what might be in store for me in Aug, so I bought a cheap straw hat at Target. I'm just going to shampoo and forget the styling! Only suncreen.

How do those "perfectly groomed" ladies do it???

nisiemouse, the vast majority of women wear the medium, so unless you feel you have much lighter skin the most women I think that would be the way to go. Also, some women order the medium and the light to mix them. I would also suggest the mineral veil, it's wonderful and adds a baby smooth sheen to your face that is incredible. It is also made from minerals and is feather light.
If you've never used barecsentials before, it will take a little practise but it's definitely worth it. Be sure to dip the brush in the powder, then swirl in the lid, tap off excess; then buff on your fact. Just keep repeating to achieve the coverage you want. What's amazing is it never looks or feels like you're wearing a lot of make up. Good luck, I hope it works for you. Remember, QVC does have a money back guarantee. Sharon

A note on the braless Tanks!
I tried on the ones with 'push up' bras and it made what little I do have all spill over so I looked like a hooker!

I was afraid to try on any others in fear of making my b's look pathetic!

Finally yesturday I tried on some at Old Navy!

They are the BEST!

The have a little gather on the top so its not to tight and doesn't make 'things appear smaller!'

At only 2 for $15 I may have to go back and buy more now!
Watch the sizing though! I bought a large and if I bend over the world will have full view! I haven't decided if I should shrink it or return for a medium!

nisiemouse, I too order the medium and I am a fair complexion with green eyes. I would echo everything said previously about the mineral veil and the way to put it on. But beware that once you try it I don't think you can go back to any other makeup. This looks great and feels like you are not wearing makeup. They even say that you can sleep in it because it is made of all natural minerals. I don't but it is nice to know that if you are so exhausted from WDW you could just pass out!! Good luck. Nancy:)

When we went the first time I don't think I wore any makeup unless we went out - I usually wear minimal makeup at work but I was on vacation and decided so was my skin. In prep for our next trip to WDW in december I bought Neutrogena's light tint facial moisturizer in SPF 30 b/c I'm very fair and burn very easily. I'm hoping this will even out my skin tone and protect me from the sun without appearing too makeupy. If anyone has tried it please let me know!

CrzyforPiglet--- Just started using the Neutragena tint mosturizer last week, so far it's been great. I am very fair with red hair, and it evens out my skin color without being heavy and the sunscreen part seems to be working also. Will post if I have any problems with it.

I hate to say it but the best braless tanks I have yet to find are at none other than Walmart! Instead of foundation you can use a tinted moisturizer. It works well in covering up under your eyes if needed. A plus side to that is that they won't streak. And u it doesn't feel as heavy as foundation but gives u the same color as foundation does. Have fun on your trip :D

Dear Susy,
The mineral foundation from Bare Escentuals costs about $25.00 for a supply that last me about 3 months. The mineral veil is about $19.00 and that lasts me about 4-5 months. I use it everyday and usually reapply mid afternoon and if I am going out in the evening. I wore liquid foundation everyday and tried many different brands, but I was never really pleased. Once you try the minerals you won't go back. I also just ordered 2 lipsticks from the Bare Escentuals line and I love them too. Great colors,Godess and Baby( I love the name). You might want to check them out too. Good luck,if you have any other questions pm me.

How well does the Bare Escentuals cover blemishes? Ever since I had my dd I have had horrible breakouts. It must be a hormonal imbalance, but I have tried everything and nothing has helped. Because of these I wear concealer, liquid foundation and loose powder. I would love to try anything that would cover blemishes and not leave my face so oily or lead to more breakouts. Any suggestions?
Thanks! Karla

I love to look at the women in DIsney who have to wear all that makeup and how bad they look after being in the sun and heat for a few hours and lookiing at the lines on their faces from the foundation and blush, etc. WE laugh and laugh every trip! Its become a game just like looking for the bad shoes. You're in an amusement park, who are you trying to impress with the hair and the makeup? The hair gets messed up fromt he rides and the humidity and heat do the rest of ya in so whats the sense?

hgsmom, Bare Ecsentials will definitely not make your face break out. It's the only product I've ever worn that doesn't seem to create small little blemishes as the day wears on.
As for coverage, it depends on what you're looking for. I think it does a great job of creating the illusion of clear skin. For me the trick is to stand back from the mirror and start applying the basic powder foundation. Dip, swirl, polish onto your face; continuing to do this until I achieve a decent look. Then I take the bisque and use it around my eye area and also dip the small brush into it and touch to blemishes, red splotches, etc. . I finish with the mineral veil (great stuff) applied lightly across the t-zone area. The mineral veil reduces the appearance of pores and gives skin a baby soft appearance. It also is good to use during the day for any shine that crops up. Just take a portable make-up brush dip it into the veil and twist it closed to use as you need it.
Good luck. I hope you find something that works for you.
Please keep in mind that if you order from QVC, you can send anything back within 30 days for a full refund.

hgsmom -

In response to your question regarding Proactiv, I wanted to put in my two cents. I love this stuff and have used it for years. I did not have the "immediate" results as discussed in their infomercial. It took awhile for it to work for me. Months went by with some improvements, but I would still get breakouts. Now I don't think I could live without it. I rarely break out, and when I do it is very minor and usually gone the next day. I went through the hormonal changes of a pregnancy with minimal breakouts, while all of my friends had much more major issues. I had problem skin for years, tried everything and used Retin-A forever with mediocre results. Now, I can easily go without makeup - something I never would have considered a few years back. I think that Proactiv is a wonderful product and would recommend that you give it another try. You might just need to be a little more patient!

(p.s. Love Proactiv, but I do miss the wrinkle erasing effects of Retin-A!)

I ALWAYS ALWAYS wear my make-up, except for swimming. I dont do anything special for WDW, I just put it on and go. I am from the south, so I am used to the heat and the humidity..if I sweat, I dab it off and nothing comes off. I use Revlon ColorStay foundation, and 2000 Calorie mascara. I am a heavy wearer of eyeliner (not the hoochy-mama look), and I use the cheap .99 stick eyeliner. My eyeliner doesnt run, or smear and neither does my other make-up. I also fix my hair, pony-tails, down, half pony tails, whatever. I always do that, no matter where I am. And I also come back to the room and freshen up whenever we make a room-stop. I dont however, do high heels! :) At Disney, or anywhere else for that matter! LOL

I'm what my husband calls a "high maintenance girl". I wear full makup. Foundation, powder, blush, eyeliner (a soft grey liquid that looks like pencil), eyeshadow, lipliner, lipstick and mascara. I would say I wear a lot of makup but in good taste. It doesn't look slutty or hoochie mama. I was doomed from the start because my mom is the same way and my sister and I are like clones of her. I work full time Monday thru Friday but I "try" to not wear makup on the weekend in order to let my face "breathe". This flies out the window if I have any plans other than running to the video or grocery. At WDW I always wear my makup. I wish I didn't feel like I had to but I do. I like "feeling" pretty. I have long hair almost waist lenth but it's pretty much all one length and so most park days I either put it in a ponytail or in a big claw clip. As far as clothes go, I have to be comfortable. I wear lightweight tanks or halters and either board shorts or some cute comfy cotton plaid shorts with the elastic waist. I also wear walking sandals (New Spirit) and the comfyest pair of tennis shoes I've ever owned (Nike Walk w/ air soles) and I trade off every other day to avoid blisters. So I look (I think) and feel pretty in comfy clothes. Yes, I have to admit at the end of the day I feel a little wilted but it's ok and I too think the RU Paul looking ladies with the 10 pounds of makup and hair 10 inches out and high heels is a little funny looking at a theme park but if that makes them feel good then more power to them as long as I feel like I look good for me and feel comfy that's all I care about. The makup for any interest is Clinique foundation, cheapie Cover Girl powder, Mac lipstick (Viva Glam II-very natural) but w/Victoria's Secret lipliner in Plum Metal and cheapie maybeline Express Eyes liquid liner in grey or slate or something like that. I would like to find a fresher staying foundation for humidity when we travel. Here at home (Utah) we have a very dry climate.

I have to wear make up ...

I used to have terrible skin but now I use metrogel for roseasa.

If you have break outs and red skin stop using expensive stuff and get to a doctor. This condition was undiagnosed for 8 years after pregnancies until new doc spotted it.

I wear full makeup in the parks, but in tasteful, neutral colors, so I'd like to think that I'm not one of the people being laughed at! I'm fair-skinned, but I hate the feel of sunscreen (it feels heavier than my makeup to me), and I find that foundation and powder provide all of the SPF that I seem to need on my face. Besides, I want to look semi-attractive...I'm having more pictures taken of myself in one day than I've usually had in the last few months altogether!

Here's my regimen. The only way that it's different from everyday is that I use waterproof mascara instead of regular while I'm in the parks.

Foundation - Revlon New Complexion One-Step. It's really not particularly one-step, since I still need concealer and powder, but it dries to a nice, powdery (read: non-oily) finish that doesn't melt off in the parks.

Concealer - Maybelline Smooth Result. I'm currently in the market for a new one. This one is a bit heavy...I'd like something light, but with staying power.

Powder - Maybelline True Illusion. I use the little foam wedge that comes with it to apply it, and a brush for touch-ups to keep it from getting too heavy. I'm not necessarily thrilled with it (it cakes if I'm not careful), but I need a powder that's extremely light colored without being pinkish, and this fits the bill.

Blush - I don't remember offhand what it is. I'm not picky about blush in general, as long as the color is right. It's a powder blush, probably Maybelline or Cover Girl.

Lips - For the parks, just a tinted gloss. For evening (Pleasure Island, special dinners, etc.), I like Aveda's lipsticks, sometimes with a little bit of gloss over it.

Eyeshadow - Revlon. Again, not picky, except about the colors.

Eyeliner - something by Maybelline. No idea what...I've been using the same stick of it for at least a couple of years, and it's gotten too short to read it (a little eyeliner goes a LONG way for me!). The only reason I got it was because I couldn't find my beloved L'oreal eyeliner in Real Raisin, but it does the job.

Mascara - usually L'oreal Voluminous waterproof.

Overall, I can't complain. With careful application, my makeup will usually make it through the day looking reasonably good, except for the lip gloss, which needs to be reapplied every so often. I can come back from a full day at the parks, take 3 minutes to give myself a quick dusting of powder and blush, lipstick if I want to, and be presentable for whatever evening activities we're doing.

As for my hair...I wear it short. I do fix it in the morning. Usually, my 'do makes it through the day reasonably well if the weather's cool. If it's incredibly humid or I go on a water ride, it gets wavy in places that I don't want it to, but hey...big deal, right? Photos are much more forgiving of bad hair than they are of bad makeup...at least in my case!

What's a good brand of lipstick? I wear very little makeup...only lipstick and blush. My biggest problem is that my lips are always very dry so I need a lipstick that has lots of moisture. Also, I keep seeing commercials on t.v. for "long-lasting" or "advanced-wear" lipstick and I've tried a couple of those brands and they just don't stay on long at all -- especially not after eating. Is there really such a thing as lipstick that actually stays on after a few hours of wear?
