Just curious......
If I buy a refillable beer mug, can I get free soda in it if I want. For instance earlier in the day when I am not quite ready for a beer. Does anyone know or have tried this.

Sorry, the beer and the soda are not interchangeable in the mugs. Beer for beer mug, and soda for soda mug. :) :)

All my good ideas are getting shot down.

HoosierFantasia,
I was able to use my beer mug to get soda, but I had to pay for it. You do get the bigger soda for the price of a regular one.
Scottyboy,
The mugs cost $10. They're 22 oz., but can be refilled for the price of a 16 oz. beer ($3.25 Bud / Bud Light, $4.00 Heineken). You get 6 oz. free per beer. I think I figured you need to buy 8 beers during the course of the trip to make the mug pay for itself.
It ends up being worth the price, but I found it kind of a hassle to lug the big glass mug around, so I've only bought the mug once,
and went without it on subsequent cruises. It also makes a nice souvenier.

At one point, the bartenders were using the beer mugs for mixed drinks and soda, charging the regular prices for those beverages. DCL found out and discontinued that practice. As far I know, you can currently only have beer refills in the beer mugs.

When I was on the Jan cruise, I ask if I could get the beer glass with soda, as I don't drink beer, they said "Sure" and you can refill it with soda for the soda refill price. That was Jan 5th 2002
May have change in 6 months.

On our cruise in April 2001 the beer mugs were glass, but the bartender told us they would soon be changing to plastic. Does anyone know if they are glass or plastic now?

did not have one, but saw lots of them being carried around--they looked like glass
