I applied for a job as a claims rep with Geico. I'm very tired of working two jobs, and although I don't wish to work in a call center again, working 40 hours a week and making more $$ than working 60 hours a week is very tempting - even if it does mean call center work again.

I love both of my current jobs, but all the hours are taking a toll on me. Geico is 40 hours,,,,that I can leave at the door, 4-10 hours days on a permanent schedule, 401K, retirement plan, all the benefits,,,,and PAID vacation.

I was hired by them last year as a sales/service rep, but turned the job down when my church offered me full time. I hope they don't hold that against me.

With the way our IRA has sunk....I'm going to need to get a second retirement plan going.

The job will pay $150/week more than what I'm making at two jobs - plus all the benefits. And that's just the starting pay. With my previous call center experience of 30 years, they will probably offer me a higher starting salary. They did the last time. I gotta do what I gotta do! ~sigh~

Please send prayers and positive thoughts. :thumbsup2

Good luck! We have Geico and last year when the valet at Boardwalk busted my windshield the voice on the other end was so nice and helpful! If she was that nice to me on the phone (on Mother's Day no less) she must be pretty happy at her workplace. :)

Do you think Geico would mind if you caught a bunch of the lizards from the Fort and let them loose in the building? That Could lead to lots of Fun/screaming. Let me know if you need any help catching them.:thumbsup2

Are they CRAZY? Going out on strike in this economy??? That's just pizzing up a rope if you ask me. Good luck to the union workers. That'll mean more money for you, Pete, cause they usually fill the gap left by striking workers with management people.

ETA: Thanks, everyone!! I'll let you know something as soon as I do.

Good luck on your new job.......we too will be sending good thoughts and prayers to you while you waiting to hear. Two of my very good friends work for GEICO in Virginia and they love it. They have been there for about 6 yrs now. They said the only part was having to study for the certification for all of the rules and regulations regarding insurance, etc.

more money how, it means 60+ hour weeks......

Yeah, they are crazy for thinking of going out. If they were smart, they'd just extend the contract a year and strike next year.

I'm with you! All my retired phone company friends are being called back, in preparation for the strike. I can't believe anyone would strike in this economy. They're all hoping for a strike because their 401 K's have taken a huge hit and they need to go back to work. But, back to the original thread, I think Geico is a great company and I hope you get the job. I enjoy reading the posts everyday and I'm looking forward to putting faces to the names on the 4th of July.

GTE gave pretty nice bonuses to management working strike duty. Although we never went on strike in Florida during my years - several of my management friends worked strikes in other areas and made HUGE money. Maybe AT&T is stingy - hence the strike?!? :confused3
