If they file for bankrupcy, they will not stop flying, your parents will be fine. They will be doing it under chapter 11 for reorganization and protection from creditors. There is absolutely no talk of them stopping flying in the near future. They will probably eventually merge with another airline and combine routes. Yesterday they announced a new commuter airline they want to start operating with regional jets (in addition to the regular jets they fly now).

Sue,

Yes we are holding 2 tx for feb 2003. I am not worried about it;)
Just like DebbieB posted above they will merge with another Co. if it gets that far.I think it is more for "contact give backs", to scare the employees!!

Keeping my fingers crossed, we have tickets for December, our price 164.50 each. I checked the website today and the price for the same flight is now around 330.00 each. I am glad I bought the tickets when I did.

My co-worker is the mother of a USAir pilot and the mother-in-law of a USAir flight attendent.

She's very nervous for the future of the company. She is in constant email contact with her son and she told me on Friday that the government loan had been denied. As of this morning, she's making alternate plans for next weekend - June 14th and 15th - for a trip they have planned to New Orleans. She says they'll drive if they have to.

I hope that what the previous poster says is true and that the company will continue to fly. My daughter and family leave on July 4th for DisneyWorld on USAir. As for a merger, rumor had it that USAir and United would merge over a year ago, but United turned down that option.

According to my co-worker this afternoon, there is a crucial vote this weekend. She says that if the company closes down, they will NOT refund any money for purchased tickets and that other carriers DO NOT HAVE to honor them. The money used for refunds would be tied up in the bankruptcy courts.

Let's just hope they stay afloat - for all involved.

Please know that I'm not quoting facts, but just the information I'm getting from a worried USAir parent.

I live in Pittsburgh, USAir is our county's #1 employer (over 10,000) and have over 80% of the flights at PIT (500 per day). If they were going to stop flying in the next couple weeks or months, it would be HUGE news. Nothing like that has been said. They may very well file for bankrupcy, but bankrupcy does not mean shutting down.

Update - on the news last night there is rumor that Northwest is interested in a merger/buyout. Again,no mention of a shutdown.
