I'll be watching the DCL announcements on 4/6 for the bounce back dates. I'm hoping this date is included, it works well for us.:goodvibes

We're looking to spend a day at Kennedy Space Center if we can swing it.

Airline prices are still looking good too!

Welcome to those joining today! It will be so fun to see fellow Valentine Voyagers again and to meet new people too!:yay:

L & J: It will be so fun to see your little "bouncing" baby! If you don't want to bring all the baby supplies with, there is a service for having items such as diapers delivered to the stateroom.

Today I asked a CM about the kids sail free on 7 night cruise offer and she was only able to tell me that it is a targeted group that got the email offer and more emails are expected to go out the end of this week. I don't think that will change my BB plans.

Seeing the Wonder at Christmas will be awesome.

I can sleep tight knowing this date is not blocked out! Nite all!

Great to see a few more added to the list!

Lauren, how old will your baby be at the time we sail? How are you feeling?

Have you guys sent in your vouchers yet? I meant to do it today but forgot. I might pop out later this afternoon and go to the post office. I want this thing to finalized for good! :)

Should we start a countdown? ROFL

At this time we have booked this cruise with our 3 and almost 6 year old. It will be their first cruise. My husband and I are going on a 7 day in October without the little ones. The only thing that would make us change from this cruise would be the school schedule. We are still waiting to get it for next year.

Amanda - I'm feeling fine... thanks for asking :goodvibes The baby will be a little over 4 months old on the cruise. So at least very small and portable... not as portable as last cruise :lmao:

canuckgal-your family is going to absolutely love the cruise... especially your daughter :goodvibes

We mailed in our voucher today and are so excited for the cruise!

Welcome and you'll enjoy the cruise! We have a DD8 that turns 9 end of Sept. She is looking forward to meeting your DD. Her name is Katelyn (K8!). She wants to know your DD's name. As you can probably tell, she is right beside me as I type this.

Have a great day everyone! We have sunshine (finally) here in MPLS.

I just wish it was sooner. LOL!!

Welcome to the newbies!

Lauren, you'll eventually realize how portable babies are before they're born! lol Take advantage of it while you still can!

I mailed the voucher yesterday by priority with delivery confirmation (only after scanning both of them in to my computer!). I wasn't taking any chances! I wonder how long before the price adjustment....

We're keeping this cruise a secret from the kids yet again. At least the secret wait time is shorter than the last one... :)

December 17 will be Camden's 8th birthday so this will be extra special for us!

Michelle, you'll have a blast and making magnets is a lot of fun. I can't wait to start making new ones for this trip.

Hey Amanda! I thought that was you and then I saw you mention Camden and I knew it was!

I'm excited to be going on this cruise. This will be our very first Disney cruise and only our second trip to DisneyWorld. We too are keeping it all a secret from our boys, ages 5 and 8, as we have them completely convinced that we won't be going back to Disney for a couple of years.

I look forward to meeting everyone!!! :goodvibes

I've been reading some on these boards and I found out about Fish Extenders and door magnets. I've noticed that people buy little things to put into other DISers FEs, especially for the kids.

My question is this....Will there be some sort of head count done prior to us sailing regarding how many boys and how many girls will be in the "group"? I would love to have a count so I can start buying small things ASAP. Thanks!!!

As you can tell.............I am extremely new to the DCL so please excuse any of my dumb questions!!

pgsahm2
04-09-2009, 03:28 PM
Ha! Good to see you here!!

As for the FE gifts, I guess our group will have to start a FE list to get an idea of who will be sailing. I guess we'll need a volunteer to coordinate the list. (VV's, where's Sue when we need her? She spoiled us!) Last cruise we had like 25 families (someone correct me) and it was left up to each family on how they wanted to "gift" each other - whether each kid rec'd something or if the family rec'd something altogether. We got a TON of stuff. TONS. The boys loved it!

You'll have to come over and watch our picture DVD ;) - then you'll only get more excited! Have you guys decided when and how to tell your boys?

BoogasMom
04-09-2009, 04:09 PM
We haven't decided when or where to tell the boys about it. I'm torn as to the details and keep going back and forth with my ideas. I'm thinking of not telling them about the cruise part at all until we pull up in port because I'm afraid they may say something to your boys and spoil your own surprise for them. I still have time to come up with something.

I would love to see your picture DVD! Maybe we can do that after we tell the kids...that would really get them keyed up! :happytv:

I need to email you so be on the lookout for it!

Welcome VV Margo! I feel like I got know a handful of VVers but missed out on getting to know many more because we got to port so late with the Disney bus and nearly missed the meet and we headed off just before the group pix to grab some food before it all closed down. Just wanted to give us a little bump. Welcome Brett and family!

Just went for my 7 month OB checkup. Baby is doing fine, kicking like crazy and can't wait for his/her first cruise out of the womb! We're trying to finalize plans to take a trip to WDW after the cruise. Just hoping it's not so crowded that we can't do anything.

Anyone have any summer vacations they're planning? popcorn::

05-12-2009, 10:45 PM
Namsupak, we are planning a WDW trip as well. We did a 10 day Christmas trip a few years ago. The parks were very crowded but if you follow the advice of Mike at tourguidemike.com it will not seem crowded. The $20 to access his site was the best $20 I ever spent. The one day we didn't follow his advice we were overwhelmed by the crowds and lines. But the days we followed what he said was smooth sailing, no crowding, fast passes still available etc.

Bump! About 7 more months to go before our sail away party!

Summer vacation plans: Nothing big planned. Our 25th wedding anniversary is coming up on 5/26 but our celebration was the Disney cruise in Feb. Not sure if we'll do anything much on Mem. Day weekend but we do have some time off from work for the anniversary. In early June we have my niece's wedding in SD. Had plans to take the kids to the Black Hills/Mt. Rushmore/etc. but just found out today that DH cannot get even a few days off the following week so it's time to cancel the reservations.

We've got a big family camping trip in July and some other days off but economy and layoffs loom overhead so this will be a low key summer - especially if we want to keep the 12/17 sail date. However, I am registering everyday for the free summer cruise with the Disney celebs!

How about anyone else for summer vacations? Good weather in the summer can be treat enough for me, especially after a long winter and cool spring here in MN.

YAY Lauren!

Yay baby!!!! Of course now you are closer to 8 months than 7!. I bet you are just ready to see that little face.. christmas with baby on cruise. WOW!

And Amy, I have BOY who is going to be 10.... I can get him to tell me about some of the fun GIRL stuff that he didn't want to do because it was so girly. We couldn't drag hi away last February - he would be upset when we showed up! So I THINK I can get some selling points from him for you....

Also, do you want to do the fish extender thing? That's a little way to engage kids and Holiday time will be super easy!!!!

Hi Connie! Hope all is well! I see you on FB!

Margo
Look forward to meeting you!

Hi mommystieg our middle and youngest are the same age. Maybe they will become fast friends.

Ooh -- you have 3 princesses, too. It would be nice to if the girls could get to know each other -- I want them to try out the kids clubs but I am not sure how they will react to being separated. I don't worry about the oldest -- she has no problem being separated from the rest of us....

Maybe our nine year olds can IM each other or become pen pals? This way they will be excited to go into the kids club so they can see there new friend.

I just told Emily that she has a new friend -- she is so excited!! I sent you a PM with our e-mail so that they can exchange information. I am not sure if Emily is techologically-advanced enough to IM but she can sure try. I am sure big sis can help.

Now my 4 year old wants to know when she can meet your youngest. I told her that would be hard since she can't read or write much more than her name :)

DIS NAME(s) - degrapevine
ADULTS - David (43) and Rose (39)
KIDS - Leaving 'em at home w/the Grandparents!
STATE - Florida

DH and I are taking this cruise by ourselves to celebrate our 20th anniversary. We cruised last month (June 6) on a 7 night Eastern w/the kids (Eric 14, Patrick 11, and Gina 8) and I just took DD on a surprise 3 night July 9 for the Disney Channel Summer at Sea cruise. What fun we had!

We are definitely going to Palo one night and I am going to try to talk DH into doing the Segway tour on Nassau. Other than that, it's going to be rest and relaxation w/o the kids! They'll have more fun with Nanny and Poppy anyway ...

Include us in the FE exchange and any meets you might have. Even though our kids aren't coming along, it's always fun to meet other DIS-ers!

Welcome everybody! It's so exciting to see all the new people that have checked in in the past few days :santa: We are starting to think about going to WDW before and after because we can get super cheap airline tickets but only if we fly on Tues, Thurs, or Sat.

We're waiting for the baby to come.... I'm due in 2 weeks, but I'm ready now! Time is moving extremely slow right now! Any suggestions?

Welcome to the newbies!

Our summer has been so busy this year. I've hardly had any time to stop and think about the upcoming trip! But the closer it gets here and the more I do stop and think about it, the more excited I get. :)

It's my birthday (on day of sailing---17th) and a total surprise trip for the kids! Yep, they're coming home from school on December 11, telling them to wash their faces and put on some decent clothes we are taking my parents out for dinner (actually they are going to house sit with the 2 dogs) and when they reach the living room area we are going to throw them sweatshirts to put on that Rust Man Stan made the design for...they say Surprsie we are going to Disney Right Now! Load em in the mini-van and take them to airport and we are off. We are spending the week before at Old Key West. We plan to knock out some of our Disney Wedding stuff during the week--but we are also planning to be in the parks as well every day. Can hardly wait. They have no idea this is coming!:cool1::banana:

We're just trying to work on the sleeping without having to be in mom or dad's arms. If we don't let her sleep in bed with us she'll only sleep for 15 min at the most. I really want her to sleep in the bassinet next to us in bed but she's not working with me.

pgsahm2 -- I am with you on staying up late tomorrow to book Palo, we missed out on our first cruise a few years ago but went twice on our cruise in February and it was one wonderful.

I know we would like to do fish extenders and indicated so earlier in the the thread. I thought there was someone who had taken the lead on this but would have to go back thru the thread. Maybe I will do that tomorrow while waiting up.

We booked Palo for Friday night at 7:00. I will organize Fish Extenders if no one else wants to do it.

Rather than creating a spreadsheet and mailing it out to everyone when there are updates (happened a lot on our last cruise, everyone seemed to have a different version of the spreadsheet) I can create one in google docs. The question is does everyone want a link posted that anyone can look at or keep it private and only those who send me PM and are on list can view the spreadsheet?

I know setting a cut-off date for joining the FE list was a big topic too so everyone had time to buy gifts. Does anyone have a suggestion for cut-off for joining FE?

I think the spreadsheet on google docs would be a great idea! Is a document created there and not privatized open to all of the internet to view? If so, I think it should be private and only those who PM you gain access.

What is the normal cut-off date? A month before sailing? Two weeks? I would love to have a good month to finalize my gifts.....

Margo- the baby is great. Lorelei is well on her way to sitting up so hopefully we're high chair ready for the trip so I don't have to hold her while I eat :rotfl: She likes to see everything that's going on We did the shuttle from carribean beach in the summer of 08. It left around 11:30. I didn't think it was that big of a deal to get there a little later than other people. The ride was just like the magical express. I know some people like to be the first ones there though.

We've convinced my MIL and SIL to join us on our Disney Christmas Adventure. They'll be in a different room but I can't remember the number right now.

We decided to do Disney before and after the cruise so we'll be flying in on Dec 12 and leaving WDW on Dec 22. :woohoo:

I would like to see if anyone would like to split transportation to and from the port. We are staying at Animal Kingdom Villas the night before and we will be going to the Wilderness Lodge Villas for a few nights after. I was thinking a rental car or car service. It is $70 round trip per person to do Disney transportation. So, that is $280 for the 4 of us to do Disney transportation. It would be cheaper to do a rental or a car service.

I'm not entirely sure what is involved. I believe everyone that signs up to do the FE exchange drops off small treats for all the others on the list. And notes if you'd like to meet up with others during the cruise. I am all for doing this, and will look through this string of posts, and make a list. Of course anyone that has done this in the past, please add to or correct me if I'm mistaken. Thanks!! And I'll compiling that list tonight! :)

Families that would like to participate in the FE Exchange  Let me know if you’d like me to add or remove you. I did consolidate information for this list to give you numbers of families, and children, and room numbers. I only compiled this list based on who actually said “yes” to the FE question in this thread. If I overlooked you, I’m sorry! I’d be happy to update all information. And I can’t wait to get all the gifts together. My 3 year old son is going to have a BLAST walking around and leaving surprise gifts at your door!! 63 DAYS TILL CRUISE TIME!!!!

Anytime BoogasMom! This will be my first time doing this, but I love giving surprises! We don't know our room number yet, but it appears others in the same boat... hehehe "pun intended". I think when we drop off gifts we could make a little note stating our room number? Has anyone else done this in the past?

I'm so sorry for dropping the ball and not helpin with the FE list. Thank you so much cruiseorrs for making up the consolidated list!

I actually need to add my parents to the list of us as they are going to participate as well. Just add them to our group (pgsahm2) as two adults: Vickie and Gene

Once we're closer to cruise date you should get a room assignment so the list can be updated accordingly.

As for a cut off date, we still need to decide on one. What about making it November 22? That gives everyone a month to get their stuff for the exchange. I'm totally picking a date though so....

When I catch a break (haha, yea right!) I'll try to pop in more and help out. We have to decide on a meet up time and place for once we board. That is of course, if everyone wants to do that.

Gotta run. Be back later!

We're getting closer to cruise time! This will be a surprise trip for the kids so that's making this even more exciting.

I updated the list so please let me know if I need to make any additional changes.

We had a change of plans and won't be doing Port Canaveral after the cruise but I guess that motivates us to return again!

Can you all believe we're only two months out.

PGSahm (aka Amanda) - November 22 is probably good.... its before Thanksgiving if people want to order stuff (like me, I will order stuff) for FEs

Any other ideas?

Baby sounds great Namsupak (aka Lauren) ... what a blessing and if she can sit - imagine how absolutely amazed - all the lights and nosies all that. WOW! Thanks for the info on Caribbean Beach shuttle... so we'd be there like by 1 I think, which would be okay - just want to get that first lunch and "love cruisin'" thing in that day, you know? I cannot wait to be at the park, but even more I cannot WAIT to be on the BOAT! WOO HOO!!!!:cheer2:

Any way y'all... 'bout time to really start engaging....:santa::love:

Can't wait...

Do we want to do a meet up on Thursday or something?

We booked through Dreams Unlimited also. On Wednesday I got an email from Merrie regarding the upgrade. $99 from cat 12 to 9 so we took it. Email your TA and see what happens. You have nothing to lose!

Well, we also got the phone call to upgrade to a Cat 9 for $99. Went ahead and took it, since I was happy picking our cabin (#2510) and knowing that we wouldn't be under the galley or night clubs on Deck 2. I also just booked a 4 night yesterday for my Mom, myself, and DD9 in 3 weeks. I couldn't pass up the Florida Resident rate to take a "3 Generations" trip with my mom, who has MS and has had a rough year. She's been doing well lately, so I figured, why not? DD is only in the 4th grade, so she can miss a few days of school (unlike her brothers, who are in the 6th and 9th grades) and I'm so blessed to still have my Mom, when so many of my friends seem to be losing theirs. She's also watching our kids in December so DH and I can celebrate our 20th anniversary. Now, I'm REALLY looking forward to that cruise! We are still in for the FE exchange, so please add our cabin number to the list. See you all soon!

Just booked a room at the Comfort Suites. We are a family of 3. If there is a family of 5 that was planning on going and was contemplating renting another room, you can join us. It would be about $60 for a child under 15. If it is an adult, it would be $82 when you add the additional cost of having an adult in the room, energy surcharge and housekeeping.

PM me if you are interested.

I can't wait!! We are 44 days away! This will be my first time also doing to Fish Exchange. So I'm not a real good one on filling anyone in on details.

I will be purchasing lots of fun gifts to distribute though. :) And if you're not on this list, and would like to participate, I'll be happy to add you. I think we came up with November 22nd as the cut-off date, so we will have a month to get gifts together.

Thanks all!! :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

I am SO happy to find this thread. I actually have been looking at another "cruise forum" (as I forgot about this one) I could not understand why there were so few fellow cruisers.

This is our third Disney Wonder cruise. Our last was May 24, 2009. This is our bounce-back. We are so, so, SO excited. We also cant wait to see this decked out for the holidays.

Hello fellow cruisers!!! :cool1: & FE tip :santa:

I have been lurking for months now, I think this is my first post. This will be our third Disney cruise, but first time on the Wonder. We are doing this with the bounceback offer from Feb. 14, 2009 cruise, and were on the fence for awhile if we would actually be able to go on this one--whether or not the kids could miss school for a week.

Anywhoo, we are me (Jennifer), DH Mark, DS Alex (15), DS Ben (13) & DS Luke (2 & 1/2), and my hubby's DA (dear auntie) Faye & cousin Sue. We have 2 cat 9 staterooms on deck 2. Too lazy to dig up the info right now. Not sure if we will do the FE this time around...we did last time and it was lots of fun, but I am trying to do a "low-key no stress" vaca this time. I mean I know the cruise is relaxation; I just get stressed preparing ahead of time & doing everything for our family of 5.

But, my tip for a FE (the actual pocket/mailbox thing) is to go to Target in the dollar section. They usually have cute hard paper boxes or bins or tin bucket type things. We cruised on Valentine's Day last year, and I got 2 pink open topped box/bin cardboard containers, made some Minnie and Mickey cut-outs on my Cricut machine and tied a cute piece of ribbon to hang them. Make your ribbon as long as you think you might need it, and then just tie a knot to make it shorter once you're on board. You just don't want to obscure the actual "fish" outside your door, which DCL will use to send you notes, etc. occasionally. We used one mailbox for each cabin. Our Target has all kinds of cute Christmas type boxes now.

We didn't really need separate pockets for each person, but of course ours was kind of a basic FE. I know there are some people on the boards who make really beautiful fancy-schmancy ones, so it's just whatever you like.

So, that's my 2 cents on making a FE. pirate:

Where do we want to meet once we board? In the lobby at 3:00? I'm just throwing out an idea. Any other suggestions?

Beach Blanket Buffet might be nice...the family can eat while the DIS-members talk? Outside if it's nice or inside if it's not...somebody could make a cute sign or some way to let everyone know this is the DISmeet. Just a suggestion. Any others? More options are always good. :)

What excursions does everyone have planned?

We have NONE planned, other than Flounder's reef for part of the Castaway Cay day. We may take a couple of taxis to Paradise Island in Nassau; have to research that soon.

Who has Palo reservations?

Nope.

Who feels like there's too much to do and too little time to do it before the trip]?!!!!

Yes! AND too much I want to do to get done on a 3 day cruise! I cannot wait to see the ship and Castaway Cay decorated for Christmas!!! I saw pics online of CC decorated anyway--hope they really do that! :santa:[/[/I]QUOTE]

I am SOOO glad you are starting the chat. This is my first DCL cruise. Been on RCL and CCL a number of times but I have not been as excited for any of them as I am for this one. I am hoping my DH likes it because this way I can book a 7 day one on board:)

We have Palo reservations for Saturday at 8:30pm. It will be nice to spend some quality time with my DH. It's hard to do with a 3 year old.

No excursions planned. I originally booked Comfort Suites but after reading some threads and pming a person I decided to cancel. We will take a cab over check out the hotel and then head over to the public beach that is about a 1/2 mile down.

AND yes to having too much to do! I work on a college campus and we are in the midst of running a week long H1N1 vaccination clinic which is taking up all of my work days (and nights:sad2:) Which means I still have work on my desk to do. Then I have to plan Thanksgiving and have all the holiday shopping done before we leave. But I have to be honest - the thought makes me super excited. From Thanksgiving through New Years is my favorite time of year.

Funny enough in all this craziness going on in my life, I was able to finish my FE and now am deciding on gifts:banana:

We are getting super excited with each passing day... however I still have way too much to do! This is our first time traveling with the baby and I'm getting to the freak out point. Althoug DH did point out that it's not like we're going to the ends of the earth and if we forget anything we can always pick it up in Orlando.

We've got all of Lorelei's christmas stuff done, so now we're just trying to make our packing list.

We'll be at Palo's on Sat at 6 pm. :goodvibes

We'll be getting to WDW on Dec 12 and staying at Saratoga Springs till the cruise. We're trying to get that changed because we really want to stay at the new Bay Lake Towers so hopefully here in a few days people start cancelling and we can get in. After the cruise we're going to back to WDW and staying at the Beach Club. :woohoo: We've never stayed there before so we're excited.

This time we're also taking a van to port through FLtours so we should get there earlier than last time since we're leaving at 10. I just felt a little safer having a carseat for Lorelei.

I think 3 at the lobby sounds great. Do we have anyone making a list and name tags? Maybe I missed it.

Yesterday we booked the Maiden Voyage for the Disney Dream. I can barely contain my excitement and I have to wait over a year! Anyone else going with us?

I haven't even thought about packing yet!! Just trying to get to Thanksgiving week. Hubby has that week off!! I am done Christmas shopping. I just need to get things wrapped and stocking finished as it get closer.

We are staying at the Animal Kingdom Villas the night before and at the Willderness Lodge Villas for a few days after. We are just now trying to figure out the transportation between the hotels and port. I was wondering if anyone would want to split a van with drive with us. We could do a town car, but need a booster and a car seat. Please let me know if anyone is interested and we can see if they would mind doing two stops. We just don't want to mess with a rental car and even a car service is cheaper than Disney busses!

Hi everyone,

What we did for our last cruise on the Wonder in order to "see" other members while in the terminal, I thought was a pretty good idea. Home Depot has Disney paint samples in the shape of Mickey Heads. They have a bright green color, some people would then either put them on their shirts or on a bag, so others would see each other. A few others, myself included, went to a craft store and bought the bright green tees and we all wore them. We made a couple of iron-ons from the other design board (magnets) with our names.

Another thing was to do an informal meet at the sail away party. Just to meet at the right side of the stage and say Hi!

I am SO excited, only sad it is just 3 nights. But this was our bounce-back, so 3 is much better than none. :cloud9:

Wow I am impressed with everyone who is done Christmas shopping. I just started with the children in my life. Disneystore.com was selling pjs for $5.00!!!! So all the small kids are getting pjs.

Dawn, I like the idea of being able to identify each other by either the green Mickey or the lime green shirts. If tees are a go, Michael's is selling tees 5 for $10 and AC Moore 4 for $10. Not sure of the colors.

Tweet, we are only a few staterooms away in 2143 and 2145. Hi neighbor!

I wanted to stop in and say hello to the newbies. Our meet thread is a bit on the quiet side but I hope we can start to chatter a bit more since our cruise is in only a month!!

My kids still don't know about the cruise.... hehehe... Anyone else still keeping a secret?

Where do we want to meet once we board? In the lobby at 3:00? I'm just throwing out an idea. Any other suggestions?

What excursions does everyone have planned?

Who has Palo reservations?

Who feels like there's too much to do and too little time to do it before the trip?!!!!

I dont believe it-we have been upgraded to Cat 10 rooms and my daughter Vikki and grandson Liam age 2 and a 1/2 are next door in 2147 and they dont know anything about the trip :cool1:look out for their door decorations as I have them all ready for them My Dh and I will be in 2605 so not too far away

We got our tes at AC Moore. They have tons of colors. Also, if anyone is planning on having a t-shirt or pillow case signed by the characters, while in the craft store, pick up a pack of laundry markers in a multi-color set. This way there will not be a problem washing the items.

Hey everyone!

I have updated the FE list on post 85. I just made a couple changes. Please take a quick look and let me know if you're missing, or if anything is incorrect. I will make updates and send a follow-up post.

37 days till we are on the boat! Looks like a bunch of us are neighbors, I'll be looking for all your door flair!

I love the idea of meeting on the right side of the stage at the Sailaway Party. That way we can all casually meet up and chat with the families. :thumbsup2

I'll try to check back more often, I'm so not super good about checking up.

Cheers!

Nice to meet you neighbor! We decided to tell our boys that we are going. A friend of mine and I started talking one child at a time for a mother/son trip when they were 12. Dad stayed home with the other kids. This is our first Disney cruise and we are so excited! We do have Palo reservations on Thursday. Thats all that was left. Can't wait to do the FE , but are haveing the hardest time making one:confused3

Hi Tweet,

I have no sewing skills whatsoever. I made mine using the no sew directions. It wasn't that easy but doable. I am a learner so I had to keep the picture up while going through the step by step directions. I would post the pic of the FE but I can't figure out how to do that.

And I can’t wait to get all the gifts together. My 3 year old son is going to have a BLAST walking around and leaving surprise gifts at your door!! 36DAYS TILL CRUISE TIME!!!!

Margo, I made a super-de-dooper list the other day and it makes me want to cry when I think of how long it is! lol

I will probably have a Little Green Mickey Head on the bag I'm carrying while in the port. We will more than likely get there by 10:30 so feel free to come up and say hello. I'll be the one with three boys, ready to pull out my hair.

We are staying at POR from 12/12 til leaving on the Wonder. Then when we get off the boat we'll be heading home....

I think we need a name too. Anyone with ideas?

We are also at Palo on Saturday at 8:30! :)

No excursions for us... We'll be enjoying the quiet ship while in Nassau and then lying on the beach at Castaway.

I really, really need to get it together and start marking things off my list! Only 28 days til we head to Florida!

margolyn
11-13-2009, 04:38 PM
OMG! That means I have like 29 days!

No excursions for us either although I think I would like to enjoy some cuisine and adult beverages while in Nassau....

Searching for fun and innovative FEs....

Gonna start the xmas shopping...

Names - I am trying to come up with something holiday Bahama like.... or pirate like...

Took the day off to use a spa gift certificate my brother gave me for my 40th bday LAST YEAR!!! It almost expired. That would have been a HUGE waste. I almost remember what it was like to pamper myself:). How life changes after children! Started doing some Christmas shopping today. The Disney store has a friends and family 20% coupon and Old Navy/Gap 30% coupon so I got some great deals:cool1: I was almost floored at the fact that Santa is already in the malls.

Now it is time to work on my FE gifts:banana: Is anyone bring extra gifts? I was looking at the original meet list and there are a few families that didn't mention the FE but they have children. I don't know if they have been checking this thread.

I'll have my green mickey tag as well. I will be with the man with the screw face because I have him getting on a ship against his will (or so he says);). Gotta love him!

No excursions here either. Probably just head to Paradise Island so DH can see Atlantis and maybe hit the beach after that. I do have to say Dec 17 could get here any faster!

Due to shopping, we will stop adding names to the list for the FE Exchange on November 22nd. This will give us about 3 weeks to shop for gifts. The cut off is in 5 days. If you're not on the list and would love to participate, please let me know and I'll be thrilled to add you.

Haven't been on here in a long time. Kids football was keeping me busy with practice/games, managing team website and editing year end video. Football season is over now (we won super bowl and cheerfest) and can start looking forward to vacation.*

We are staying at Bonnet Creek resort the night before the cruise. We have Palo booked Fri night at 7pm. We don't have any plans to leave the ship in Nassau this time. We did the dolphin encounter in February and it was a blast. I will try and find my trip report and link if anyone is interested.*

Our last cruise thread we did a picture-a-day leading up to the trip of past cruises or vacations, anyone want to that here? *I am on my phone now but will put a picture up tonight.

If I missed it sorry but are we planning a meet at all? By the pool or anything?

I like Mickey's Merry Mates. Cool name! Anyone else with ideas?

And yes, we still need to decide on a meeting time and place. I would rather not meet for lunch as my family will be eating lunch and heading straight to the pool. Last cruise we met at 3 in the lobby. This worked out very well as everyone had had time to get into their rooms, drop off bags, etc. That's just an idea though!

I like Mickey's Merry Mates. We finally broke down and told the kids they are going with us. They are soooooo excited! We had big family hugs and screams of happiness!

It looks like 3 pm will work for the meet. I'm fine with meeting at pool or lobby. My youngest is 9 so I don't need to keep a constant watch on her. If you have younger kids, do you have a preference of pool over lobby? Last cruise I went on someone made games for the kids and icebreakers for the adults. I really enjoyed it but it was work for someone and taking easy route of just meeting and gabbing is fine with me. Should we have name tag stickers so we can write our name and AKA DIS forum name on it for the meet?

Great photos posted! They really get me thinking of warm weather and great surroundings!

Namsupak - just noticed you are going on the maiden voyage! Lucky you! I would be on it in a heart beat but it gets harder to arrange the trips as the kids get older in school. I just moved my placeholder 7 day cruise to spring break 2011 but I do plan to check with onboard cruise bookings on our 12/17 cruise about switching things around! 7 days spring break or maiden voyage??Right now they cost about the same. We get less days on maiden but it is the MAIDEN VOYAGE!

Plus you can get some really great deals at magazines.com right now. Especially if you go through upromise. That might take away a lot of the stress for you :goodvibes

We hit up Carter's hard on Black Friday so Lorelei has all sorts of new clothes. Today we're taking her to get pictures taken and go pick up some other things we'll need for the cruise. Hopefully it's not too crazy out there and we can get through the traffic.

All gifts are wrapped and under the tree as of earlier this week.:thumbsup2 Knew we wouldn't have time as we will be gone Dec. 11-21. Most of the gifts we bought the kids for Christmas are trip related therefore they are wrapped and in the suitcase. Packing is proving a challenge. I've never packed for seven days on land and 3 days on a cruise before. I think we are going to make a suitcase that is specific for just the cruise so it can stay closed during the land portion. Yesterday went out and got all the essentials. Bonine, cough drops, pain med., etc. There was not one bottle of sunblock at Walmart. Can you believe that? I asked three different people and walked all over looking for it. Guess I should have taken care of some of this at the end of summer.:goodvibes

Fe list - latest and greatest!

I have all room numbers except from Captain Jack. Let me know when you get that.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The cut-off date was on November 22. One month to sailing, this will give us enough time for shopping.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Families that would like to participate in the FE Exchange  Let me know if you’d like me to add or remove you. I did consolidate information for this list to give you numbers of families, and children, and room numbers. I only compiled this list based on who actually said “yes” to the FE question in this thread. If I overlooked you, I’m sorry! I’d be happy to update all information. And I can’t wait to get all the gifts together. My 3 year old son is going to have a BLAST walking around and leaving surprise gifts at your door!! 19 DAYS TILL CRUISE TIME!!!!

Momster I think I got the same little christmas hat for my little one. The santa hat with Mickey ears and their name on it?

I am now really ready for this cruise! After getting back from our Thanksgiving trip Im ready for some cruising pampering! Not long now, only like 19 days. 2 and half weeks!

I love the name Mickeys Merry Mates. Very cute!

Hi, all!

Well, my DH and I are really looking forward to this cruise - Just the two of us, ALONE! We went on a 7 night in June w/our 3 kids, then DD and I went on a 3 night in July (Summer with the Stars - We met Corbin Bleu and the Sonny with a Chance cast [minus Demi L.]), and I just returned last Thursday from a 4 night w/DD and my mom. So this is my 4th cruise this year (blame the FL Resident rates!), but the first one w/o kids ... just DH and me celebrating our 20th anniversary. So, if anyone has any questions, please ask away!

This will be my 8th Disney cruise and I've probably encountered most anything you could imagine. We are looking forward to the FE exchange and seeing smiles on other people's :) kids' faces! I think it's funny seeing some of you already planning what you'll be packing ... I know I was that way on my first cruise, but after 3 already this year, we'll probably just be throwing things into our suitcases the night before (except for the FE gifts, which I need to get cracking on!). Best advice I can give is not to overpack and to bring your own bottled water and alcohol (especially wine or beer) in a soft sided cooler (no ice). Any more questions? Ask away!

Rose :)

Okay, I have questions about the fish extender. What are the general rules for the gifts? Any rules for passing them out? Just do it when we have time? I just want to make sure that we don't do something extremely wrong with this. The kids are going to have a ball with this!

FYI -

Gifts were small, cute fun.. think pencils fridge magnets, stuff from oriental trading or current or somewhere like that.

Someone gave us a cute "lost boys" fridge magnet about the cruise. Someone did the hershey bar wrappers that said "Valentine Voyagers" which is what we were that time...

There was lots of candy and some really WONDERFUL scrap booking mementos too! Some people are more creative than others (like everyone is more creative than me) some people did it all the first day, some people spread it out. I actually picked two different days to distribute my gifts. I did the last one on the Castaway Cay day. It was neat to see all the magnets on all the doors for the group. Really!

All in all, it was wonderful. It was great to get back to room and see something in the bag if you will. (we had a bag last time)...

Passed them out when I had time (late morning on sea days etc) last time...

Think simple, think cute, think fun.... and anything is wonderful - we're all swamped with holidays and cruise prep....

Not QUITE to the sleeps countdown but getting close!

See you all real soon!

We had some of the items that Margo mentioned, pencils, disney magnets etc other people gave things from their home area. We had a dutch couple that gave dutch candies and clog decorations. One person gave grits (to cook when we got home) along with a cd of vacation tunes and other goodies.

We got airplane size bottles of liquor, pirate tattoos and goodies, glow in the darks things for the pirates party. Some gave a little (just a pencil and lollipop) others gave a lot (bags with flip flops, chocolates and a lot of other goodies) most were somewhere in the middle.

Some people put their names on the gifts so you knew who they were from and others didn't.

We grouped ours together by deck or area on the ship and when we were headed out to the pool or dinner or whatever and had a couple extra minutes we would grab a set and deliver them. The kids had a blast delivering them, looking at everyones doors, and of course see what was in their pockets when we got back to the room each time.

Rose, if you don't mind keeping an eye out I would appreciate it. We are going to downtown Disney before the cruise but won't be in the parks until after. I am afraid they don't make it anymore. People have said they go on eBay for $70 or more, don't want one that bad but if I can find in the parks or DTD for $25 or less I would love to have one. Never wanted the Santa hat with Mickey ears but for some reason I think the stitch one is cool.:santa:

Oh my goodness! We leave this Saturday!!!! I still have so much packing to do. Does anyone have any packing tips?????

This is a helpful thread:
http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=468132

Also, pack light, pack light, pack light! Last cruise I actually wrote what I brought and afterwards made notes on what I actually wore. It was really surprising. I wore about a third to a half of what I brought, and I only brought 1 suitcase, plus some stuff in a garment bag--for the 7 day cruise. The nice thing about DCL is that they have laundry rooms available (extra charge). Surprisingly, some cruise lines do not have this available to guests. Not that I like doing laundry on vacation, but it's nice to know you can wash things if you need to.

There is also a packing list link (I think on the thread mentioned above), but take that with a grain of salt. It was written before the airlines started charging for every stinking bag. Do I really need a tuxedo for my 2 1/2 year old for formal night? NO. A polo shirt and khakis (worn many other times as well) will do just fine.

Do I need my own special hair dryer from home? Not anymore, not with the new luggage limits. Do I need bungee cords to hold the connecting doors open? No, my room steward will bring us door stoppers without even asking. Do I need a nightlight? Probably not--the closet doors have lights if you leave them open slightly, as do the bathrooms. Do I need an air freshener? maybe! :rotfl:

Must brings, however:
--highlighters, one color for each person, to highlight the daily schedule
--a whiteboard to leave notes INSIDE the cabin to one another as to where you are, etc.
--an envelope of one dollar bills for tipping for the free room service, use the leftovers on your way home (bills, not food)
--a cheap shoe holder from the dollar store or Target to organize all the little crud that you need to find all the time, as counter space is at a premium in the cabins
--an eye patch or some other small pirate-y things for anyone who is into that for pirate night
--cheap glow in the dark necklaces, etc. for the kiddos at night
--laundry detergent (I am excited they have sheets now!) & quarters for the machines (it's just easier if you bring about $5 worth, then you have them & you're not at the mercy of the change machine)

This is what our family of five finds important to bring, anyway. Hope it helps and doesn't bore anyone too much!

I CANNOT believe we leave in 6 days!!! I am in the "stunned-but-I-could-easily-throw-up-if-I-think-about-it-too-much" stage of planning.

So new to this thread, we booked so last minute it's not funny. It's the only thing the kids wanted for the holidays. Looking to find out if there are others going with the same ages. It's also my first cruise alone with the kids, and they aren't looking forward to spending time with Mom - going to feel like that Disney commercial from years ago where you embark and the kids vaporize.

Anyways, my daughter is hounding me for other teens on board, she is 13 and very excited to be in the teen area. It looks like there are a whole bevvy of teen Eric's on board, but are there any girls?

Also, are there any young adults on this cruise that I just missed? DS is 19.

Are there any other forums that I can suggest to them for meeting people before the boat sails? It is such a fast trip that I don't want them to spend the first two days trying to figure out who is who before we have to leave again. Goofy only knows when I will be able to take them back again!

Thanks a ton!

Hi Tweet!

Welcome JamesMRivers and sailingseas :goodvibes

I believe it's too late to join the FE. The deadline for signup was November 22.

Sailingseas- A FE is where you hang a little bag or something similar off of the fish hook that hangs outside your room. Then everyone that signed up exchanges little gifts. You come back to your room and there will be surprises waiting for you and you deliver your gifts to the other rooms on the list. The gifts can be anything you want. Our last cruise we actually gave every room an electronic 20 questions handheld. But people do all sorts of things like magnets, scrapbooking materials, pencils, highlighters, beach toys, etc. There are lot's of threads on it if you search and you can find pics of examples. HTH for your next cruise.

We leave to fly down on the 16th. So, we are trying to get boxes packed up to ship out and then on to packing and FE stuff. We will be staying in a villa after the cruise, so I am able to wash clothes then if need be. It is just hard to pack the right stuff when it has been snowing here!

ETA that the boxed that we are packing to ship out are Christmas stuff for family! Not stuff going to disney.

We will add you to our list also! As I have everything planned for it, I just have not gotten down to doing it! I always do everything last minute. I seem to do better that way. My last FE, I was finalizing stuff in my cabin! Now THAT is late. We are in room #2500, all the way forward!

Anyone have any ideas on table seating for dinner? Our last couple cruises we always sat with just one other family and either the child/children were very young or a lot older. I would love my son to hook up with someone his own age. He is 7. Last cruise he never wanted to stay in the kids club as everyone seemed so much younger than him. Tweet, for our last FE we had a schedule of when each group was to pass theirs out. We did have a very large group and a longer cruise. I think the best thing to do is to try and pass them out around a certain time, maybe dinner time. This way, they are not in our extenders for a long time (just in case they grow legs and walk away - I have heard that happening). If we kind of know when to pass them out and check, it might make things easier. :confused3

I am curious about dinner as well. I am a single mom, and traveling with DS19 and DD13 for second seating; what do you guys do if the kids ditch you? Room Service? Has anyone traveled alone with kids before?

SailingSeas- If you are in our dinner rotation and your kids ditch you, you're more than welcome to come join us. DH actually commented the other day that since we're bringing MIL and SIL we might not get put with another family this trip. We always love meeting new people. Just find us at the meet on Thursday if you want. :goodvibes

That sounds great. Skipping through the thread; the meet is at 3pm, right? Did I see that it is in the lobby? I will drag the kids, kicking and screaming with me. They were the ones looking for companionship, I was more interested in the hammocks, myself. hehehee! Seriously, it does sound like fun, and thank you for the offer.

Fe list - FINAL

Captain Jack's room number is added. :) Sorry I haven't been back to check on what's going on. I am also going to add JAMESMRIVERS to the list. I see a lot are able to add him to the FE, but if you can't it's understandable. I will also be able to drop off gifts to him because I am a last minute shopper! :) I plan to stop by and drop off small gifts a couple times during the cruise. I know my 3 1/2 year old is going to have a blast doing this. We did have a couple that asked to be taken off the list, so hopefully everyone will be covered. :)

YAY!!! 4 DAYS TILL CRUISE TIME!

So happy to hear you guys are making it to Florida. Soon we'll all be hanging on the boat and getting pampered Disney style! :)

Cool that you're staying at the Bonnet Creek Resort. My office designed it. :)

See you all tomorrow!

I am SO in Disney mode! :cool1: I am also trying to work (not doing so well). In my mind I am already on the ship! I can't wait. The weather here in South Florida is really cloudy and rainy. I hope we have good weather.

Rather excited. My son made it to the Hyatt for the night - that was so stressful for us since he is also lugging all his stuff from college onto the ship too. (gawd I hope he did his laundry before stuffing it in there!)

Can't wait to meet everyone, 9 hours and counting. :D

I want to thank you all for the wonderful FE gifts. This was my first Disney Cruise. I had no idea what to expect. Amaya was so excited each time she came to the room and had gifts in the FE. My DH was totally taken back by the FE. The generosity and creativity of you all made a this cruise magical.

SOrry I missed the DIS Meet. We flew the day of (HUGE mistake). We got to the ship later than expected. We were tired, hungry and I had one cranky child that needed a nap before the drill.

DH had a miserable first night. Grateful it improved as the days went on. I was extremely disappointed about not docking at CC but I commend the Captain for his efforts. I told my DH all I wanted for Christmas was for him to book another cruise. I got my wish - March 13, 2011. He won't do a 7 night but I got a 4 night. He says that he enjoyed himself except for the sailing part - so too many days at sea is out.

All the best to you and yours. Have a happy holiday and great New Year!

Hi Everyone!

WE too missed the meet - didn't even get on the boat until about 3 PM - barely made food and we were starving. The bus that was supposed to take us from Caribbean Beach at 12:30 went to pick up more people at Boardwalk so then we didn't even leave WDW until after 1 PM!

The gifts were WONDERFUL! Thank you to everyone - I was surprised by how many - all of you really were generous.

Cruise was a bit rocky - I am still rocking in fact. But we did enjoy it - just quiet time away and that is our favorite.

Anyway, may the peace that seems to be different somehow during this time find its way to your heart and to your lives if only for a few moments over the next few days.

Thanks and thanks for making our cruise that much more special!

Fatima -

Congrats on the next cruise!

And if it helps, I've been on three cruises and Thursday night was the roughest I've ever had on a ship. Seriously!

I actually had ginger capsules but we forgot to take them the day before - health food stores often have ginger in capsules and if you start taking them the day before the cruise they can really help. Also, take them with a meal.

We actually use the wrist bands too. My BFF used them when travelling while expecting and swore by them, so I tried them and I believe they make a HUGE difference - you might definitely want to get them for your DH!

Thanks Margo. He took Bonine. Later in the day he took Sudfed. He actually left at dinner to lay down. He said he enjoyed the rest of the trip but although he paid the deposit for the three of us, he made no promises that he would come on the next trip. If he does come, we will go all natural - ginger capsules, dried ginger candy, and the wristband. I want to minimize any effects of motion sickness because a miserable DH = a miserable trip for me!

Thanks to everyone of you for your generous gifts regarding the FE. My children loved going floor to floor placing gifts in your extenders and the gifts that they found in theirs were overwhelming. You all are truly fine individuals and you brought big smiles to my two children every time they returned to our cabin; my son Noah (8) said it was like the tooth fairies coming by as he always found gifts but never saw anyone.
The rough seas were surely tough for everyone I am sure and but for my scopolamine patches I would have been in trouble however, a Disney cruise is great in any situation. Again, I thank you all and wish you a very merry Christmas this Friday.

I want to add my thanks to everyone for the FE gifts!!! They were wonderful!!! My boys loved coming back to the room and finding things in their stockings and were so excited by delivering the gifts to everyone else too. It was a great highlight in an otherwise rough cruise. Thank you so much for all of the gifts and the thoughtfulness that went into creating them and delivering them!!!!

The withdrawals are setting in! I hope everyone had a fabulous trip. Ours was great but went by too quickly... :(

Thanks to everyone for taking the time to join in the FE exchange. My kids were given the opportunity to explore the ship on their own for the first time to help pass out some of the gifts. They loved being little elves and dropping off the packages. Thank you all!

For those that rebooked -- congrats! Alas, we did not. It'll be a while before we head back to Disney....

Merry Christmas to everyone!

Don't feel too bad Amanda....we didn't rebook either (Todd's not too sure about cruising right now after being seasick the first night LOL!). It will be a while before we go back to DW too. :sad1:

I guess I need to reset my ticker but I don't have anything to reset it to. Oh well.........

Merry Christmas!!!!

The children and I would like to thank the kind soul who added our stateroom to the FE exchange. It was very nice of you, and a sweet guesture that I wish I could have returned.

We went to the lobby for 3:00PM and stuck around for about 15 minutes, but did not see anyone, and the kids were horrified when I started asking people of they were from Disboards. I guess that sounded pretty funny, and it really did make me laugh when one kid said "Disney Bored? How can you be bored on a Disney cruise?" ...so, I stopped.

Both my son and daughter were sick for almost the entire cruise, but it's not a problem, we understand the weather conditions, and know that it is a fluke. I, on the other hand, had the best sleep I've had in a LONG time. Love sleeping with the verandah open. (Hopefully nothing blew out in the night!) We will return, next time, hopefully with more time. <3 to all.

The FE was definitely the highlight of our trip! We were amazed by everyone's creativity and generosity, especially with it being our first time participating. It added a special magical touch and kept us cheery despite the rocky ship, lack of CC, and cranky members of our group (we had three state rooms). We're looking forward to our Mediterranean cruise; when we got home, we received a letter from DCL saying that each person in the party was going to get a $100 obc in addition to what we already had. Nice Christmas gift!

Happy Holidays, everyone! Mickey's Merry Mates will hold a nice place in my holiday memories this year.

Thank you to all for joining this cruise thread! Even though I had to withdraw from the FE I received a lot of enjoyment and added value to the cruise by chatting here with you and meeting a few of you on board!

This was our second cruise and we enjoyed ourselves immensely even though the wind was blowing! I would have liked better weather and definitely missed our day at CC but it felt good to laze around!

A small group of us met at 3 PM (Amanda, Daisy and Connie families.) I did some asking around if others were there for a DIS meet and unfortunately missed some of you.

On our last cruise we stayed at Caribbean Beach Resort and did the Disney bus and also had the experience of getting to port and on the ship just before 3 PM. This time we arrived after 11 PM on Wednesday and stayed at the Hyatt Airport. We got on the first Disney bus from airport to port and were in group 2. It was nice to have the extra time on the ship since we felt we missed out on it on our first cruise.

We sail again on 4/2/11 on the Magic Western. Thanks to Kylie's (she was the TA on the Magic on our Feb. 09 cruise and was a Guest Services CM on this cruise) creative handling she was able to book us another placeholder cruise by splitting the deposit on an existing 4/2 reservation. We have our eye on a Fantasy cruise in 2012. Kylie was FABULOUS - she remembered us from our last cruise and she said she'd take care of us making all the changes we needed and we didn't have to stand in line with the new TA. Kylie had the new reservation posted outside our door before midnight and we spoke with her at about 9 PM - awesome customer service!

We were surprised by a special gift package from Shutter Photo Team staff. They awarded us as being a "Magical Cruise Family" and in the surprise package they gave us 10 8x10's of the character pictures. Awesome! Disney cruise CMs went above and beyond our expectations again! Kate also got a free pin from a CM at Treasure's Ketch.

Happy sailings to all!

Connie

Just wanted to say thanks for all the great FE! Our new Castaway bag was used to hold all the goodies and it was overflowing.

Also, to those who gave out the pins. Not sure if I should say thank you, or curse you! LOL My kids are now pin trading fiends! I'll say Thank you as they had so much fun trading with Cast Members.

We just got home late last night as we spent 10 days after the cruise in Disney World. So I apologize for the late thank you!

Someone wrote on our White Board asking where we got our FE. My friend made it for me following the directions we found here on Disboards. We went and picked out the fabric at hobby lobby and she sewed it right up! Hope that helps!
