Scott and I were talking on the way in to work today about concerts we'd been to. We're seeing Billy Joel and Elton John in Tampa tonight, so concerts are a big topic of conversation lately. :woohoo:

Which got me to thinking.

Which concerts/live performances have been your favorites?

For me (so far) here are the top 5-ish (in no particular order)

Mandy Patinkin's "Dress Casual" concert. What an amazing performer!
Billy and Elton (the first time I saw them together in 1995) plus the other two times I've seen Billy Joel in concert
The Jackson's Victory Tour back in the 80s
Neil Diamond all three of the times I've seen him
Bette Midler's "Kiss My Brass" tour

What about the rest of you?

My partners parents had season passes to the American Airlines Center here in Dallas where all sporting events and concerts are held, and they gave us the majority of all tickets to go see every concert. We saw more last year then I have in my entire life.

Seen last year alone:
George Michael - I'm his number one fan so this was the biggest concert event and my most favorite of all of them of course.
Tina Turner - amazing at her old age. :)
Billy Joel - Surprised me with one of the best concerts of the year also.
The Police - Never was a huge fan, but being an 80's kid, I ended up loving this concert.
Christina Aguilera - One of the best LIVE performers out there.
Beyonce' - Have never bought an album, but she puts on an amazing show.
Janet Jackson - Probably my 5th time seeing here. LOVE her.
Erasure - Probably my 7th or 8th time seeing them. One of my all time favorite groups.
Duran Duran - Was incredible seeing them back together again and touring.
B52's - Small venue, amazing show.
Barry Manilow - I LOVED it!

We've slowed down already this year since the parents didn't buy season passes, so we only have tickets so far to see Katy Perry and Fleetwood Mac.

Heart will be playing at the House of Blues in DTD on March 28. We are supposed to be leaving that day and start our looong drive back home to NJ. I am contemplating trying to convince everyone that this is a must see show! I got a chance to see Heart and Journey this summer, and it was great! I just wish Heart performed longer (or after) Journey since they were sooo much better!!

My favourite ever was Kenny Loggins a few years back. Odd because I like him but am not a huge fan and did not even know he was touring unti la friend called to sa yher kids were both sick and would we be able to use the tickets that night. It was just a perfect evening--good music, good energy, great weather, good crowd, etc. I am a bigger fan now than I was before becasue of that night.

My other tops:
*Melissa Etheridge (last year)
*Talking Heads (way back when they were together)--at Red Rocks (best venue I have ever seen)
*A local favourite from Michigan: Jim Bizer
*Big Head Todd and the Monsters playing in an old church turned concert venue--very cool
*Prince (about 5 years ago--unfortaunately not in his 80s heyday)
*Michael Jackson's Thriller tour (way back when I was my DDs age:eek: )

I don't really do concerts...I can't deal with all those humans in such an enclosed space, oh my. You'd never know I work at a theme park... :)

We saw Sarah Brightman in November, row 1, center, like OMG. You can't pick your nose or anything, she's RIGHT THERE! It was mesmerizing. I thought she was possessed a few times before those big notes. It was a great show. I knew we were close but I didn't know we were in the front row...right at the end of the runway.

Because I'm *so* nice we saw Celine Dion from row 2 (I'm not a fan). I saw Bette Midler probably 15 years ago. I would see her in Vegas (as well as Cher)...the venue there is intimate enough.

In April we are going to see Wicked in SF. Not a concert, but close enough. That's a birthday surprise. :)

I listen to a lot of indie bands, so I mostly go to smokey little clubs to catch some of my faves...but in my top 5...

1. B-52s...OMG...those folks put on one heckuva show - saw them twice with my ex.
2. Sarah McLachlan....Lilith Fair back in 1999. I was obsessed.
3. Dressy Bessy...one of my top 3 fave bands of all time.
4. Throwing Muses...a rare reunion show about 5 years ago....another of my top 3...
5. Sleater-Kinney...saw them a handful of times before they broke up....and yet the other of my top 3....

Brandi Carlile is amazing! I've seen her more than 20 times and she just keeps getting better. She's also incredibly sweet.

If you ever get a chance to see her with an orchestra, I HIGHLY recommend it. There simply are no words to describe what an amazing musical experience that is. I took my 17 year old daughter who was so moved by Hallelujah that she had tears coming down her cheeks.

I haven't been to any concerts in a long time - too busy lately, but my favorites were:

Billy Joel - puts on a heck of a show
Fleetwood Mac - back when Stevie had to be helped on and off stage by the roadies because she was a bit, er, out of it!
Cher - some friends really wanted to go and I went aloing, wasn't expecting to enjoy it as much as I did
Barenaked Ladies - lots of fun!

Wow!

What a great concert last night!

Billy and Elton put on one hell of a show. If you can catch this tour (Tampa is only it's second date) I highly recommend it.

They started with a few back and forth duets, then Elton played an entire set, then Billy played and entire set, then they closed with more back and forth of each other's songs. Last two songs were of course Candle in the Wind and Piano Man.

I always get chills when the entire arena crowd sings

"Play us a song you're the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
We're all in the mood for a melody
And you've got us feeling all right"

a capella back to Billy at the end of a concert. It's such an amazing moment every single time.

Great night!

And up tonight, we're seeing the Orlando Philharmonic/Mad Cow Theater concert presentation of "Sweeny Todd" with Faith Prince and Davis Gaines. :woohoo:

My faves so far (in no particular order):

- Indigo Girls (never miss them if they are in the area)
- Amy Ray (solo tours)
- Little River Band (lost count of how many times - they are fantastic live)
- Dan Fogelberg (several times, but the best was the Greetings from the West tour)
- The Eagles
- Paul McCartney
- Dixie Chicks
- John Denver (again, more times than I could count)
- Billy/Elton (several years ago - would love to see this year's tour)

I also had a great time back in December at Amy Grant's 20th anniversary tour for the "Lead Me On" album. I went to the show with the guy that I was dating back in 1988, and we had a ball. (His wife and my DP were just happy that neither one of them had to join us!)

The woman I was obsessed with for over 2 years (we dated briefly last year and I realized she wasn't all that I thought she was after all....) was in turn obsessed with Brandi and thus turned me on to her. She was really amazing when we saw her last year. I'd like to see her again when she's in the area. And I have heard she is very sweet! I know she went out and signed autographs after her set when I saw her.

The Concert for Change (Springsteen, REM, Tracy Chapman)

Tina Turner and,
WHAM!, The Pointer Sisters, Katrina and the Waves (my first!)

I'd forgotten about the Concert for Change! That was a great night, too!

So, I listed my favorite concerts, but my FIRST concerts were in the first and second grades at the Colorado State Fair. Glen Campbell in the first grade and Donnie and Marie and the Osmond Brothers in the second grade. :thumbsup2

I've seen Van Halen (5150 tour) along with Loverboy, Ronnie James Dio and Bachman Turner Overdrive. That was an eye opener. I was in High School and a bunch of us drove to Boulder, Colorado to see the concert. Imagine the surprise to the bunch of small town kids that we were as the people in front of us started smoking crack cocaine! Like I said. That concert was a real eye opener in a lot of ways. LOL

Other concerts I've seen: Sheena Easton, Starship, Whitney Houston (back before she was such a trainwreck). Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine, and Jim Brickman (amazing, and a really nice guy in person. I bought him a drink at the hotel bar after the concert.)
