I think Disney should have free wi-fi at it's resorts. Who's with me?

I am with you.

I was just there (just flew home this afternoon).
They had an ethernet cable, but my computer doesn't have an ethernet port.

they should; when I read how much they charge for an hour's access I am so glad I am not taking my laptop along, even though it has a built in wifi card.

Considering how much they charge for staying onsite and for tickets, you'd think they could offer free internet....

How much do they charge per hour? I thought it was $10 for 24 hours of use. I mean, I guess $2.40/hour is steep, but I don't plan on using it that long anyway.

I agree that they should give it for free, seeing as though many McDonalds have started doing this. But, they are in the business of making money so...this is just one more way to get us unfortunately.

I agree there should be free internet access somewhere. I still see other large hotel chains charging for internet access, Hilton and Sheraton, Westin, and W to name a few. The price seems to be $9.95 for 24 hour period although I have also seen four hour access for around $5. While it sounds like a good idea, some of the these places also have some support with their internet access which allows the guest to get help when the access does not work. Someone needs to pay for that cost.

I think it will happen eventually, where wi-fi will be included in the resort fees. Before that though, I wouldn't be surprised if an ISP gets an exclusive wi-fi contract for its' subscribers. Comcast is already testing free wi-fi in Jersey, at many NJ transit stations. Supposedly at the test sites, you just log into a specific website with your Comcast name/password and you're on. If the test goes well, Comcast is hoping to add free wi-fi across the country at various locations.

I could see Verizon, AT&T, Comcast etc ... battling over the exclusivity rights to free wi-fi at WDW.

I was at MK a month ago, pulled out my iPhone while waiting in line, and discovered free WiFi! Spoke to a cast member, and he indicated that the rumor is that they're thinking of offering it to guests. Next time I went, the WiFi was no more. :(

If that's the case, one can hope that they'll offer it at the resorts, too! But at this point, it's all still a rumor.

If you have a rental car, just drive over to the library in Celebration (on 192 in the Water Tower Place shopping center). Free wi-fi for all!

Wish I had known this last month. Something came up during our trip in Feb. and I needed to send some documents that were on my laptop. Went ahead and used the ethernet cable in our room ($9.95) and no service! The "Internet" was down at Disney. Went to the business center at the Coranado (I think that was the resort), and they couldn't help me either (no Internet working). Had to call a hotel chain where I stay frequently and they let me use their wi-fi. The library would have been closer and easier. Thanks for the info!:surfweb:

lol

I do have to agree though. I've stayed at very inexpensive hotel chains over the past few years that all had free WiFi (it's a requirement now when I travel...hehe). Heck, even the fast food restaurants around me have free WiFi.

Come to think of it, that's a good point. I've thought of that for myself, but with lifestyle changes and technology improvements, I'm finding my smartphone to be all I need for a portable computer anymore. So having an unlimited data plan ($20/month) with a Windows phone, I have all the internet I need at Disney, or anywhere else for that matter. Like many, I have easy computer access at work and home for all of my "real" computer needs.

I am with Sam as I am getting ready to cancel my cable internet service and just get a global internet card. . .no need to pay and coverage is fine. Since I use Verizon, they have EXCELLENT coverage throughout the Orlando area. . .I never expect anything FREE from Disney. . .I think that might be an oxymoron. . .lol.

We recently got a laptop with Wi-Fi. I would love free Wi-Fi at Disney resorts.

DVC members get free Internet access when staying on points, but it's not Wi-Fi.
