Em, the food last year at the Yacht Club was great, good to know it will be good at the Contemporary. :)

I think LindaBabe and Lovingthemouse might be interested. I'll talk to them about it when I see them at my Cape Cod Crop the end of this month.

So I'm thinking about doing CafePress for the T-shirts this year. What do we want to say? Do we have a name? If we do Cafepress we can't have a mickey on it, so what do we want? Or would you rather have a Mickey and we make our own?

A Yudu is a personal machine that will do the silkscreening. ACM was advertising one for about $279.

I personally loved our shirts last year, and wouldn't mind seeing the same just with 2009 on it instead of 2008. We received so many compliments. But I will do whatever the group goes for on the shirts. Cafe Press does a good job.

As far as our character meal, how about breakfast at 1900 Park Faire? That way we can just take the monorail over.

LindaBabe

Cafe press does do a good job - I love my "economy" Cape Cod Shirt.

Chances are I'm not going to attend this event either. B wants to go to the Magic Meet in Pennsylvania and visit Hershey Park, which is the first weekend in August. We have to budget our travel funds since we're doing the back to back cruises in November.

Hmmm, could we use the same design on the Yudu? Looked at the tutorial and it seems easy enough, lengthy process but still cool. I would have to figure out how the separate the colors on the images to do the multilayered pic. We'll need to discuss more.

1900 is fine with me, do we still want to do breakfast or maybe dinner? We also have Ohana or Chef Mickeys on the loop. Non character could be Kona but I know they have limited seating. Don't know the names of the new places at CR.

I vote for breakfast- I like don't care which character meal but would prefer that since DH tries his best to avoid them. Chef Mickey's will probably be the most crowded even first thing in the morning- I like getting the earliest reservation of the day- so we get better interaction.

If we have a big group, grand gathering size, we'll get the earliest or latest breakfast ressie, I would prefer earliest. I can't believe I said that out loud! LOL
Grand Gathering ADR's can be made now, and 90 days out can be done on May 28th.

Lisa
03-08-2009, 02:29 PM
I prefer breakfast too. After all we get our dinner included in the package. Why pay for two dinners and only eat one? I agree Chef Mickey is going to be crowded with SDV at the Contemporary, that is why I suggested 1900 Park Faire.

Bamb, could you make an ADR this week? I am going to need the whole week to get over you want the first ressie of the morning.:rotfl2:

not really, until we know who is coming. I don't want to have to call several times. I don't think it will be to hard to get a ressie since it's after the 4/3 deal is over and after most schools are in session.

Oh and double check with DD's school, even though CT went to after labor day start, mom's school is sticking with Aug 26th, according to the secretary anyway. So it might just be me going if the office has accurate info. I said to check with the Superintendent.

A couple questions for you SDV pro's! :worship: Obviously, you all had a lot of fun, otherwise you wouldn't go back for more.

How do you travel to WDW with all your scrap'n toys? Can you check your Crop bags? Do you preplan pages to try to minimize your baggage...give me some of your best thoughts on air travel scrap'n? :confused3

I've done a w/e crop about 3 hours from my house, so obviously airline restrictions and care wasnt an issue. It's been a couple years since our first & last weekend crop and I am trying real hard to talk my girls into this trip. I tried last year too, but was unsuccessful....as everyone was concerned with the cost. I am a DVC member, so am trying to entice them with a visit to my home away from home!!! If this doesn't work, I may have to find new friends to scrap with. :sad2: I am also curious about the meals, drinks, and vendor faire. Can you share your thoughts and experiences on these very important 3 areas as well?

TIA Anything you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Some people have checked their crop bags but I would not check your photos, just in case your luggage gets lost. I actually ship my tools and carry on my papers and pictures.

here is what I wrote last year about planning:
Tools - I ship all of my tools. Now when I say all I mean stuff I use all the time. So between now and then look at what you use daily and write it down.
There will be enough of us there though that I'm sure we will have at least one of everything.

Supplies - I kit everything in advance I don't cut all my mats and tags but I do gather my pics, find paper to go, and find embellies. If I have room I will bring some extra stuff with me. There are tons of vendors there so you will be able to find what you need. They also have this thing called scrapper in need. The SDV people will get on the mic and say "HELLO" to which we answer back "hello" it's really funny. Anyway they will announce scrapper in need and then say what you need. People bring an amazing amount of stuff so I'm sure someone will have what you are looking for.
They also have a table set up in the front where people put stuff they don't want. At least that's what it looked like to me.

here is a link to the Dream Events Faq, very helpful:

http://www.dreameventsinc.com/faqdetail.cfm?ID=20&CATID=1

What do you want to know about meals? Depending on the package you will get different meals, the package I got last year had 3?? dinners and breakfast on Sunday. Drinks, non alcoholic are included with your meals. You can have drinks at the tables but they need to be in the cup holder thing. I usually keep a water bottle with a cap with me.

The vendor faire is awesome!! Lots of papers, the latest products, anything you will forget is there. Some places do take credit cards. It's probably best to set a limit on what you want to spend, and since you are flying you will need to limit purchases due to space, or leave room on the way down.

And don't worry if you come alone you will leave with about 500 friends!!

Are drinks provided, like water & coffee? It wasnt very clear in the FAQ. And are the meals very good....we can be picky eaters. That's usually the first question that gets asked....what's for dinner! :lmao: All the 'local pkgs' appear to include the meals for the dates choosen.

I'm not sure DH would want me to go by myself but I might be tempted if the girls tell me NO. :goodvibes I guess I will have to have that talk with him in the next few days if the girls won
t commit!

Do the DISers all try to sit in the same area?

Lisa
03-16-2009, 04:42 AM
Drinks were not provided. BAMB stopped on her way from the airport and picked up a case of water and a few odds and ends as snacks. Being that we will be at the Contemporary, I would imagine I will get a refillable mug this year too.

The food, I thought was great. It is served buffet style, so you certainly have a choice.

We do request that the DIS scrappers sit together. Last year we were all within a few tables next to each other.

BernardandMissBianca
03-16-2009, 06:42 AM
I think there were water coolers set up outside in the hallway and maybe coffee? I'm not a coffee drinker so I don't know that for sure. But I'm pretty sure about the water.
I plan on doing a grocery stop again this year.

The food was good, there were different choices and I think there was a little bit for everyone.

About a month or 2 before the crop I email a list of people to Nancy Bohrer, the owner of dream events. When you book your package there is a space asking for names of table mates too.

I'm in for this year--I think. I'm struggling because the 28th is Emma's 6th birthday, but I may just have DH drive out with her so she can get her free bday gift card and I can visit with her and do something special before I get back to scrapbooking.

I'll check with my roomies and see who is in for this year.

BernardandMissBianca
03-16-2009, 07:24 AM
That would be so special for Emma! Let me know when you decide, we have time. I'll email Nancy B with a table list in July.

I just registered for Early Bird Weekend 2D, just waiting for confirmation.

>>The food, I thought was great. It is served buffet style, so you certainly have a choice.<<

Unless they do a completely custom meal- youll have plenty of choice usually with 2+ meat choices 2+ non meat choices and a variety of sides.. If you go hungry from a Contemp Conv buffet its your own fault :)

I'm getting more and more tempted to do atleast a day if not 2.. I dont think Ill have enough stuff to scrap more days than that :)

When is the latest we can sign up?

BernardandMissBianca
03-17-2009, 06:49 PM
I know the full payment is due June 22nd, but that's if you are paying installments. I honestly don't know when you need to book by.

When were you originally planning on coming down?

And are you driving or flying?

If you tack on a few extra days you could spend some quality time with DH and then hang with us a bit more when the rest of us get there.

Is the free dining worth the cost of more hotel days?

It doesn't really matter to me- as I will be driving in-I don't know that I felt like having Sunday was worth it but it doesn't really matter to me. Last year I did the Friday through Sunday. I can go anytime as I am not tied down to a job or anything where I have to be here.

Amy and Diana - What day is the WSD NSD crop? My CMC usually has a big NSD crop but she moves the day around. Her crops are free so that's a nice "perk" to go to hers. How much is WSD charging? It would be cool to meet up at a crop sometime :)

P.S. Sorry to sort of hijack the SDV thread . . .

WSD has Fri from 6pm-mid for $20 and Sat from 10a-10p for $40, it's May 1-2.

Amy and I are going to Scrapbook EXPO Memorial Day weekend at the Gaylord Palms. :woohoo:

Maybe we can hit a WSD crop in June or July. :scratchin

I won't be able to do NSD, unfortunately, but yeah, meeting up for a crop in June or July would be great!

We were at Disney yesterday and we took the monorail through the Contemporary and I pointed out to DH the convention center where SDV will be - only four months away :cool1:

ok, updated. I left alikat and Scrappy910 in the maybe column until it was decided on roommates.

I need 2 more for Grand Gathering status for 1900. I wasn't sure is The Tubas and The Locals (Diana and crew) were interested, let me know cause I can book that earlier then the standard 90 day window.

Normally the first breakfast is a 7 or 7:30 am. It is when the restaurant opens. The character interactions are so good though because at first the place is almost empty. I think each character visited 3-4 times last year.

I called for DH and my resort reservation for my birthday and was told they're updating the ADR software so the resort reservation CM couldn't help at all with ADRs, which is new to me. I am staying Wednesday to Sunday (actually I am coming in on the 12th with my family and spending 2 weeks at the Contemporary for vacation and the family is leaving on the 26th - let the scrappin' begin!!)
I would love to do breakfast again this year with you guys if the reservations haven't been made yet?
I'm up for anything with the shirt also - I love mine from last year and still wear it all the time!

5/31, Sunday is the general date. I should be able to make a ressie like I would if I were staying off site right? Why do they need my reservation number. Although they just overhauled their entire reservation system and it's horrible! Very little flexibility.

I'll try again on Sunday but if I can't get through I will let you know. It's party of 10, earliest seating unless we want something later like 8 or 8:30.

Yes at 90 days you don't even have to mention we are staying on site. I would just say we are with a convention in Orlando and leave it at that. They don't need to know it is at the contemporary or they will be looking for reservation numbers.

There new system was crazy when i was booking dining for our trip- 1 of the meals (dine with an imagineer) didn't even show up in the system until about 56 days before the trip- I just periodically called and asked until I could get it.

Yay - I ordered Carolina Blue and Charity Pink. I wasn't sure on sizes, but at those prices I went ahead and ordered 2 different sizes.

I just had a moment out of Hitchcock's "The Birds" movie . . . sitting here ordering my shirts and I heard a lot of birds - like a hundred birds - in our trees and then "bam - bam" and I looked up and this huge black bird was flying into my window over and over and over again! Scary! Then it perched on the bench outside the window for several minutes, flew off, and all the other birds followed it. Good thing we have new hurricane impact windows or all those birds might have followed it into my house - YIKES!

I didn't do shirts last year- are they fairly easy to make?

Rebecca

BernardandMissBianca
07-10-2009, 08:47 PM
They are easy, all you really need is a printer and the transfer paper, I buy mine from ACMoore.

On the colored shirts I recommend the transfer for dark colors for more vibrate color but if you don't want the white background it leaves, then you have to cut everything out with an exacto knife. Tedious at best but it looks cool.

I cut out the outline, under Mickey's arm, and the WALT DIS. I did cut out around the purple band last year but it becomes very unstable so I think that will just have to stay white. I do not cut all the way through the paper, just the transfer material. Peel it away, then iron. Oh and I discarded the Stars, too small for me to cut by hand.

http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i125/BernardandMissBianca/disneyscrap2009copy.jpg

Honestly if I were not a perfectionist I would do the transfer for White shirts, it's much easier. The color of the shirt will bleed through a bit but it still looks great!

JandJ
07-13-2009, 02:29 PM
Rebecca, I've done iron-on transfers before and they are easy to do. I've only done them on white shirts though, so maybe a practice shirt is in order to see how the color comes through. Or cut out the design as Buffy suggested. I have found washing the shirt first works best and there should be directions on the iron-on box whether or not to use fabric softener/dryer sheets.

Good morning ladies!! I'm really getting excited about SDV. Just over a month to go!!!

So, I was cleaning out my scrapbook room a couple of weeks ago, and found some scrapbook totes that I no longer need. I have a Cropper Hopper Navigator, Cropper Hopper Backpack, Karen Foster shoulder tote, and maybe one more. Any offer considered and I could bring it to you at SDV. Just an offer to my SDV friends, before I bring them to the scrapbook store's garage sale this fall.

Just out of curiosity, for y'all who are flying down, do you ship all of your stuff or pack it on the plane? I'm lucky that it's only a 1.5 hour drive for me and I still worry about bringing too much.

I've started gathering paper and embellishments for the projects I want to work on, and getting my pictures into Photoshop for fixing/sizing/printing. I hope to get it all packed up and ready at least a week in advance but I know I'll be running around like a crazy person with last minute stuff to pack up the night before I leave

BernardandMissBianca

My page kits are packed, just need to do titles at Lisa's crop. Now on to tools and baubles.
30 days!!!!!!!!

Jenn, I ship my tools in a Tuff box tote and carry my page kits and pics as my carry on, mom carries the clothes. I've heard horror stories of TSA agents taking tools even in checked luggage saying they were contraband so I don't want to risk losing them, I have way to much money invested in my stuff.

I'm only 1.5 hrs away too, so I don't have to worry about it. But, when I've scrapbook travelled in the past, airline restrictions weren't so tight, so I just packed all of my tools. If I were to travel now, I'd definitely send my tools separately.

I took it for another crop myself. Was wondering if that is an option available to us. If memory serves, (hey, don't laugh, sometimes my brain visits me :lmao: ) this was an option offered last year but the offer came out only days before the crop when they knew how much extra space was available.

BernardandMissBianca
07-29-2009, 12:39 PM
Nancy emailed me back and said she knew my request was for WDW.
The reason I took it for WDW was this paragraph:

Right now, we will only be collecting the requests and cannot confirm them right away. We will be away at the Camp Hill SDV this weekend, so you will probably not hear back from us right away. But we will confirm your space as soon as possible before the event. Once the fee is added to your account, we will Email you again to confirm. Thank you for your patience.

The cost depends on the size of the box (like our supplies we’re shipping)
And return shipping is available at the Business Center at the Contemporary.

Do we know is power is available for laptops? I emailed Nancy, but didn’t hear back.
Buffy, does your friend at CR know if there’s WIFI in the ballroom?
I thought so based on the Disney website.

There were some plugs in the floor, I think but I'm not sure if we will use them this year. With the whole fire marshall thing last year I wonder how things will change. I thought I remember people using cricuts and stuff though.

Hey Em! Do y'all have floor plugs? And do you have WiFi??

Carol, Diana and I emailed Nancy to get one of the extra spaces for us. We figured that it wasn't that much split among the 3 of us. Then, we'd have the extra space, since we asked to be seated next to each other.

My only question was whether or not we'll have 6 or 8 ft tables this year. Last year at the Yacht Club it was 6ft, so I just wanted to know if it was the same this year.

I can teach a cute flip flop album- I will look at my list of supplies needed and tell you all what to bring in the next couple of days. it is a 6 by6 album that would make a good card if you don't use mini albums.

On that matter- does anyone need me to bring the cricut or cuttlebug- more to have in the room in case it is needed?

Also do any of you need water or soda flats- I can get them at Sam's club if I need to and then just have them unloaded in the crop room when I unload my stuff.

I will think about anyting else for quick make and takes.

Here are pictures of the flip flop album- anyone who wanted to do one would need the following:
double sided paper 1- 1 full and 1 half (6 by 10)
double sided paper 2- 1 sheet
paper for cover- 1/2 sheet- 2 6by6 squares
**choose any papers you want that match each other- I would suggest that the papers (other than cover) should be heavy weight. I used sei foil cardstock when i did mine.

anything you want to decorate the pages

I will be driving down on Thursday 8/27. If anyone wants to ship their boxes to me I would be happy to bring them down with me. It would save you a little to spend on more supplies. LOL

I did notice the shorter time for next year. I am guessing that the attendance will be quite a bit less then last year and most people probably are not starting till Friday or later due to trying to save money. They don't even have any classes scheduled for Thursday like they did last year. And as others have said the class selection for this year is definately not up to what was offered last year. Maybe I will get more done this year by not going to so many classes like I did last year.

Cute book!!!

I kind of need the cricut. I will know for sure by the end of the week, I need to cut some titles this week but I don't know how far I will get. Is it the E?

We might want to get waters, maybe? I'm not stopping at the store this time since our flight gets in so late. Mom will need dinner as soon as we get there.

I'll go look to see what I can find in the way of make and takes. I'm sure I have something! I wish I had more time or we could do a page kit each and have a nice album by the end of the week.

Do we want some kind of sign for the tables?

rlovew
08-09-2009, 08:20 PM
Yes- I have the E- I only have the pooh and planting schoolbook fonts though. I don't buy the fonts for the most part so if you want others you need to bring them.

So do I need to make instructions for the book class?- It will probably only take us about 20-30 minutes depending on how much cutting time it takes.

How about if we do signature tags on Friday for our breakfast on Saturday- We would need 10 tags total for each character and there are normally 5

Tigger

Pooh

Mad Hatter

Mary Poppins

Alice

If we had a couple other people that wanted to put something together maybe we could do a couple of blank tags in case someone else showed up for breakfast - or maybe a topper for a page.

The tags could be a layered shape or just a plain tag with some sort of embellishment- do we have 5 people going to breakfast that would want to put together kits to make tags on Friday. I would be willing to do 1 of them- it wouldn't matter which one.

Great size!!

so what other supplies do we need?
Decor for each of the tags- do we want to do these before or after we go- with the autograph on or off
Alice- maybe teacups/mushrooms/blue or yellow ribbon or fiber
Mary Poppins- black fiber/ribbon (I have some of both- more fiber), umbrella/ kite/horse
Tigger- curly ques (punches or stamps)/ black or orange ribbon or fiber/ springs
Mad Hatter- patterned paper for top hats/tea cups or pots/ multicolored fibers or ribbons
Pooh- red and yellow fiber, huney pots, bees, flowers

and what will the layout look like? It depends - do we want spaces for a photo with each character with the tags- do we want them to be small or normal size (we need more than 1 or layered layouts for this)

Do we want to skip the other make and takes so we can concentrate on these?
It doesn't matter to me- I can do the little books if people want (some aren't doing breakfast) but I am not hurt if people don't want wouldn't use them- If I did them I was going to use Mickey colors(just cardstock) for mine and make a book for the weekend from it.

I was also thinking I could cut some hats out of glossy cardstock and bring my alcohol inks and use them to make crazy hats for the mad hatter- I should have some of the new lights and brights in before SDV- they are on order.

Still thinking about the others-

I would be fine with a paper bag album- I know Buffy and I make them- does everyone else know how or do we need a class for that- anyone who wants to breing one needs a roll of double sided tape or very strong other adhesive.

I love the ideas of the tags and paper bag book. I'd be glad to kit up goodies for one of the tags, if you want to split them up that way. I have paper bags, too, if I need to bring a bunch for extras.

I'd also be happy to do a make & take - probably a two-page 12x12 Disney-ish layout. I'll make it simple enough that anyone who wants to make it could just copy my sample any time they want.

That all sounds just great!

I guess sign me up for either Pooh or Tigger. I have more supplies that fit those, but I'd be glad to do either of the others if someone else would rather do one of those guys. I've got a cool tiger-print stamp that would make a fun tag but it might be hard to see the autograph on top. I'll work on it.

No supplies needed for my make-and-take except regular adhesive, scissors and trimmer. I will probably pre-cut the paper and then give you extra to layer/mat/embellish.

Can't wait!

Thanks for the encouragement :grouphug: I'm overwhelmed right now with adoption paperwork and we have a big family birthday party this weekend. I haven't even printed my pictures or chosen my paper and embellishments yet and I don't want to bring a ton of stuff so I have to get it prepped in advance. So, I'm just freaking out a bit . . .

I looked at Rebecca's list and I have most of that stuff. What colors of cardstock do you recommend? Disney theme colors? I'm looking forward to learning from y'all! :thumbsup2

You can do it! I didn't kit until the 2 weeks before lst year and did 125 pages anyway.

For the mini books I am teaching I will be doing 1 in the browns to give someone I owe a prize, 1 in Disney colors for a mini trip book, and 1 in florals (I think - I pulled the paper last night) for my SIL for Christmas.

For the paper bag album I think I am going to use blue, peach, and black because that will match all the characters.

If you might need power at the table (laptop, Cricut, etc.) you need to let
Nancy @ Dreameventsinc.com know so she can consider that for the floorplan. She told me that Disney charges extra for that stuff, so wall power outlets are available at the outer tables. If you'll use the outlets, remember to bring extension cord and duct tape. The cords need to be taped down to the carpet.

School started today for the DS! :yay:

I just checked allears.net which usually has the most recent restaurant information and menus. It says the characters at the 1900 Park Fare breakfast are Mary Poppins, Alice and the Mad Hatter.

Maybe we don't need the Pooh and Tigger tags after all :(

According to the recent posts on here Tigger and Pooh were at breakfast in the months of July and early August- no character is ever guaranteed.

We were at the GF last week because my girls did the Pirate Cruise. While we were soaking in the AC on the couch outside 1900 PF I definitely saw Tigger in there.

Thanks for getting us all organized, Rebecca. :)

I located where I put the new CM Black & White paper, I have it packed for making borders. Nothing is needed, one can tear or use a straight trimmer to cut. Embellishments can be of the persons choosing.

I'll be passing on the paper bag albums.

just passing through. I'm still trying to get myself organized.

I can gather some Pooh stuff. I have the cuttlebug die so I'll cut some of those out. Just tell me exactly what I need.

Rebecca, I have my crop-a-dile to cut holes with for the paper bags.

Rebecca, I have my crop-a-dile to cut holes with for the paper bags.I will have mine too!

Ribbon or fiber for the holes, some kind of decor for the tags- we could just use the diecut and some ink or a strip of paper and some ink. If everyone going to breakfast is doing them then we need stuff for 10!

I will look and see what i have for Mary Poppins- I know I have a lot of white lace- I was thinking maybe doing an ink wash in red on tha tag- adding some lace to the bottom or side- maybe black fiber in the hole- and then seeing if I have an umbrella I can diecut and adding some flowers. Does that sound okay?

I finally got to packing up some page kits and stuff yesterday. I have about 60 kits packed so I am a little less than half way through what I will pack.

Buffy- did you get the extra space? Nancy said if you had gotten it the charge would be on your account by now.

I will have my cropadile with me as well if anyone needs to use it.

nope, no charge so I guess I didn't get a table. Odd though since I had 7 at one table and 5 at another. I would think that she wouldn't stick a lone scrapper with a big group.

Oh well, I guess we'll see when we get there.

I need to keep getting my stuff together. I'm not having much luck though.
I hope DH goes out of town for a dew days next week so I can blitz the house and my scrap stuff.

This is part of the email we got on the 11th. Bolding is mine, so I'm holding out hope that we will get the extra space. Sounds like the fire marshall really stuck it to Nancy this year. Lets hope people heed the warning and don't bring their entire scrap rooms!!

We have approved the first group of requests that we received for extra space, and have added the fees to your accounts. You can now log into your account at www.dreameventsinc.com to make your final payment.

If you sent a request and received a reply from us that we received your request....and you do not have the extra fee on your account, that means that you are presently on the waiting list for an extra space. As we finalize the floor plan and assign seats in the next two weeks, we will determine if we can confirm any additional extra space requests. Thank you for your understanding and patience in this matter.
