Quick question, out of curiosity only - those of you with school-age kids, are you pulling them from school for the week? Or is it mid-winter break?

Nineteen more days to go!!!!:cool1:
We received our cruise documents late last week. The small "notebook" format is really nice. I know some people have mentioned they are doing some shore excursions. I have been searching the boards for opinions and excursions to do with children. Does anyone have any good info they can share? I don't want to overbook our day but would like to maybe walk to the public beach in St. Thomas or St. Marteen? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

We're taking our 3rd grader out of school for the week. Our youngest is still in pre-school. Won't be able to get away with the 'out of school' thing much longer, so we take advantage of the lower rates when we can. Too much $$$ during Summer and Winter breaks....

We are cruising with another family and would love to participate in the fish extender exchange. Can we join you? What should we do?
OK...I've added you all to the total.
As of right now what I have (and I'll double check everything by next weekend) is:
Fish Extenders committed:
So far we have 18 Cabins.
Adults:
20 Females
17 Males
Kids:
12 Girls aged 14,10,10,7,7,6 or 7,6,5,5,4,3,1
12 boys aged 15,12,12,5,5,5,4,2,1,1,1,1
Dogs:
1
I'll be sending the completed room list to people in PMs.
As an FYI, people who wish to send PMs need to have posted at least 10 posts on the DIS. It's an anti-spam deal. I think anyone will be able to receive the PMs though.

What's up with the refillable Beer Mugs? I like the sound of that.
It's not free refills. For about $15 you get a glass mug that's good forever. You can bring it on 100 cruises. Then you get a 22oz beer for the price of a 16oz beer onboard.
They have a pic and the offer on the DCL site.
http://disneycruise.disney.go.com/planning-center/gifts-and-amenities/
Beer Mug Package
Item BEV BEER MUG PK, $14.95
Carry this Disney Cruise Line-branded beer mug to any onboard bar and get a 22 oz. refill of beer for the price of a 16 oz. size! If you find the mug too heavy to carry while onboard, then take advantage of the beer mug token. Present the gift message card for redemption at Diversions or call Room Service for stateroom delivery.

This is our first DC. I have a DD4 w food allergies. I'm a little worried about her being served forbidden foods... Anyone have advice/insight into this issue?I have not dealt with this on DCL, but I'm sure it's the same. At Disney World they are among the best I've seen at dealing with food allergies. There is, I believe, a place to inform them on the online forms you fill out prior to the cruise. If not, you can always call DCL and ask them the procedures. Regardless, on day one in the dining room, make sure to bring this to your waitstaff's attention. They'll be with you every night and even without food allergies I've found on every cruise line they go above and beyond to serve you.

Ineedavaca:
We have not had to deal with this issue, no allergies. I did want for you to know that the table next to ours, their child had food allergies, just let the staff know that and they do make special foods for you. 1 morning there was a child wanting pancakes, but there was something in the pancakes that he was allergic to, the wait staff told the chef, the chef came out and brought him the pancakes he wanted, that he would not have a reaction too. Just let them all know before ordering.
See y'all soon!:dance3:

It is GREAT that we all can now say "Less than 2 weeks to go!" I am ust finishing up the fish extender gift(per room gift) and Monday going to start the next part of the fish extender gift per child/person. WOO HOO! We are all excited here! We are not telling our dd because she will onlyy talk about that, even in school. So, we are doing us a favor and the teachers a favor not telling her. Friday we will wake her up and get her ready and then just leave for Port Canaveral.
So excited to meet everyone! Is the meet still Saturday at 3pm in the Promenade Lounge?
Who has late seating for dinner? We have late for dinner, thought we would do something different this time around.
Is anyone staying over at Country Inn Suites he night before? Its only $63 per night includes breakfast, it is the "Kids Suite" it faces the port, and then we pay only $20(total) for leaving our car there during our cruise. We got a great deal there! If you have any questions just ask us

We are doing the same thing with our DD. We told her about the last one (which was our first cruise) and had to hear about it forever. SO, we decided not to tell her about this one! We have requested the last dining, and were lucky enough to get switched to it last time as well. We booked our cruise so late in the game this time that they were all booked. I hope we get the late, becuase I really don't want the early one.
I have started the FE items. I didn't do this the last time, so I'm excited about it this go around. I have already gotten most everything.
OH, one question to anyone about the FE's. Are we supposed to mark who the gifts are from or is it annonymous?
Thanks, can't wait to see everyone in....13 days!!!:cool1:

With the FE, I know that some people tell who it is from some keep it a secret. I ave not decided on how we are going to do it. I may do the per cabin gift tell them who its from and the per child/person secret. We are going to deliver them all different days, and we are going to make a game of it, to make it more fun for all of us. :)
The last cruise was our 1st also. And I guess we always learn what and how to do your next cruises.

Somebody has to say it - 11 days until we sail! I spent this past 3-day weekend shopping and getting everything set out. Ready to pack it all in the suitcases soon!
Refillable beer mug? Hmmm, something else to add to the pile!
Beach suggestion for St. Maarten: right by the dock, take the $6 r/t ferry and pick a spot, any spot. Beaches, shops, restaurants - all right there near the ship. No need to go elsewhere. After 3 trips to St. Maarten, I finally have it all figured out.

The FE list closed last week. There are some people who are leaving this weekend and others who ordered specific numbers of items or have hand made their items and there's no way they can add more people at this time. So as much as I hate to disappoint kids there's just no way I could just add you to the FE list.
That being said, if you're willing and if other people are willing I could do a second list that closes this Sat. Anyone from the first list who wanted to add you could let me know and I'd add them to their existing FE list with your info and then I could forward their cabin info to you in a PM.
I have no idea at all if anyone else would be able to do this. I talked to my wife and we would be the first on the list BUT there are a few things your kids wouldn't get that other kids would. They're honestly small trinkets and they wouldn't even notice. We plan on giving out gifts on a few different days ourselves.

A little piece of my DCL dream died today. I have spent months buying DS2 cute little vintage sailor/nautical outfits. I am officially letting it go.
He has recently become so obsessed with the Chicago Blackhawks that he refuses to go anywhere without a jersey, including to bed.
I may try to sew a couple of logos on the cute little outfits, but I'm realizing that it may not be worth the fight.

You'll know my kid when you see him!!I started reading and figured this was going to be a bad thing like you were going to have to cancel the cruise or something. I have been shopping for Hawks jerseys for my kids for weeks. I'm kinda picky. We're going out again this weekend for last minute shopping so I'm hoping I have more luck. Even if it doesn't happen this year, this team is better rounded than the team that went to the cup in '92. You gotta believe.

We're Blackhawks season ticket holders. We only live a mile from the stadium
Here's a picture of my boys with Niklas Hjalmarsson. Obviously, not the best picture but the best one we have.

Duck-Fan - Every time I see your name I think you're an Anaheim Ducks fan. :) On the bright side, my kid has a ton of jerseys, I've been picking them up at thrift stores over the last couple of years (though the prices have skyrocketed this year!) I especially love the sweater he is wearing in the above picture.
Although, a bit of me can appreciate the "You gotta believe" thing it also makes me cringe a bit. I don't want anything about the darned cursed Cubs to rub off on our Blackhawks. (Please note: we're also Cubs season ticket holders!) :)
I just sent DH to check our stash to see if the kid owns a Predators jersey, though I'm not sure he'll put it on. Up until 2 weeks ago he was wearing a Canadiens jersey a lot but now it HAS to be Blackhawks.
There is just no reasoning with a 2 year old!
On a more annoying downside, DS has acquired a rash on one side of his face. We've seen 3 doctors about it and they all agree that its not contagious, but it has to run its course. We are cleared to travel and I had the Dermatologist put it in writing. If you remember back to when I first started posting on this board, it has been one thing after another for us (the worst of which I don't think I've shared on this thread, DS was seriously burned in November so he'll be vacationing with lots of sun restrictions)
I just can't wait to BE on the ship!!
ONE week from today!!

Duck-Fan - Every time I see your name I think you're an Anaheim Ducks fan. :) Um, no. :donald:
I have a different loyalty. The leader of my club isn't a rodent. But as you can see in the pic at the bottom of my post, I'm outnumbered in my own home.
(Please note: we're also Cubs season ticket holders!) :)
Most of my wife's family are Cubs fans. I still let them in the house when they come to visit. Most of the time anyway. And my cousin, who's going on the cruise with us, has made it his life mission to turn one of my father's four grandsons to the dark side.

I'm packing now too!!!!
We spent today having DS seen by even more doctors. All three that he saw agree that he is neither infectious or contagious, but he does have a rash on his face. Hopefully, he'll look better by the time we board. THIS SATURDAY!!!! :)

Duckfan (or anyone else)- Do you have any idea what time the cruise bus leaves BLT on Saturday. The woman on the phone didn't know and told me I could find out when I arrive, but I kinda want to know sooner rather than later.
I still haven't decided about Chef Mickey's yet!! :)

We rented our own bus. Disney transfers aren't cheap and with 15 of us it was half the cost and we set the time on both ends. With Disney they have the nice buses but you can also get a small Mears bus.

When we took the DCL bus from BCV, it left at 1130 and then stopped at POR. We got to the port around 1ish.

Just got off the ship Saturday and had a wonderful time. If any of you are checking this thread while on board, could use your help in a little joke.
If you see Daniel (photo below) the food and beverage officer, go up to him and say "Are you the handsome Daniel I've heard tell about?" (or something to that affect, just be sure and call him handsome Daniel). You also won't regret talking to him, he's delightful!

And if any of you have Simone for your head server, you are very lucky too!

WOW!!! What can I say? This trip was amazing all the way around. We had some very special moments and they will never be forgotten! Thank you to all who participated in the FE's. The gifts Elizabeth received were so nice and she was so excited to see what was in her bag each time we went back to the room. First time for us to participate, but will definitly not miss it again. We are hoping to go back real soon! Did everyone have just as an amazing time as us? Hopefully all the north-eastern travelers make it home soon and safely, I know the weather up there is terrible. Man, am I still rocking or what? Makes me miss it that much more!

We had the BEST time!
I can't believe its over already. I purposely avoided a family event last night because I knew that I'd drive everyone crazy talking about all the fun stuff we did.
It really was a pleasure meeting all of you. The FE was a highlight, I can't believe all of the wonderful gifts!
Chris_Rhonda_Evelyn - We kept running into a darling little Evelyn, was that your family? My son William was having a blast with her!
Even though its way too early on a Sunday morning here in frigid Chicago, I'm starting to work again. Its time to start saving for another trip!!!! (and next time I want to take advantage of those awesome prices on DVC points!!)

TO Everyone! Thank you all for the great FE Gifts, thery were all great. Evelyn was so excited to get to our room every time we left because there was always a gift there for "Her" as she says. It was great, we are looking forward to our next trip, we were going to go again in April, but now we have changed it to June 2010. Wish you all got home safe and sound.
Nikki, that was not our Evelyn, there was another little girl Evelyn that was boout 2 or 2 1/2, closer to your Williams age, and we kept running into her and her sister(family) and she, they, were just a great family.
Hope to see some of you on another Disney Cruise....

My mini review:
The ship was great. Well we were on it with 11 other people.
When we first got on the waiter in Parrot Cay said you're a pretty big group, how many are there of you? 15? Oh, you might be at table 23. We were.
It's the center table in every dining room-I figure it's so they can keep a close eye on you. There's only one in each room. Since there were three dining rooms, I spent the cruise trying to figure out where the other two groups of freaks were.
Joey loved the kids area. Danny loved it too(Not the nursery). But he's too young to leave there so when he was there we had to be there. He especially enjoyed laying across any television that any other kid was trying to watch. So we had to get him out of there after short trips. He wasn't a happy camper.
We didn't get off in St. Maarten, we went to Megan's bay and had a great time in St. Thomas.
Palo's brunch was great. My wife and mother enjoyed their tea there. My parents and my cousin and GF all raved about their dinner there. They brought me a chocolate souffle back to the room. It's kinda toll for me to give them any more info on the rest of their time at WDW. They'll call me with questions at the resort like "Does China serve lunch?""What time is the MK open till today?"
We had a bunch of things planned at Castaway but it was too cold to go in the water. It was still a good time. I think with that weather and if Danny was 3 where he could have been checked into the kids area instead of continuing to try to storm the beach where he was zigging and zagging between people's chairs, we could have just hung out for hours but we had to head back to the ship shortly after 12.
I think the food was better than my last DCL experience. The the marinated Chicken tenderloins in Parrot Cay were awesome.
I still hate the elevators on these ships. I hope with the Dream they've made improvements in that area. With so many kids on board, there are strollers everywhere. These are the smallest I've experienced on any ship I can remember.
My oldest LOVED the FE. I knew he would. I had no idea what it would be like for us. We tried to divide the kids into three age groups because a 3 yo sometimes has different interests than a 15 yo...although at Christmas sometimes the 15yos end up playing with my 1 yo's toys. We calculated everything out at home and put them into packages and put the packages into bags and then I walked around the ship and when I'd get back to the cabin I'd have an extra or I'd have a boy teen instead of a girl preteen when I got to the last cabin. I hope that there wasn't any major problems with any of this kinda stuff from us, but if I do it again, we'll have to come up with a better delivery system.
We stayed in a one bedroom at Kidani when we got off the ship. That might be my new favorite. The one bedroom is the biggest one bedroom we've been in. The kids had fun standing in the shower. Yeah, I know they're weird. They were pretending they were lions. At least that's what Joey said. Danny I think just mostly goes along with the program and climbs as high as he can whenever he can.

Thanks to everyone participating in the FE program, my kids absolutely LOVED it! The gifts were wonderful and it gave me great ideas for our Dream cruise next February. My youngest daughter thought DuckFaninChicago was the best and that he must, "really know me", as the gifts were all magically things she really loved (tinkerbell etc). Very cute.
I started a thread on the Trip Report section of the boards and would absolutely love to hear more about everyone's trip and see some pictures.
Thanks again to everyone who participated in the FEs and to DuckFan for organizing it!
