View Full Version : A dilemma

Ok here's the dilemma. We're both trying to save money and pay off credit cards. I've paid almost all of mine off, will be finished by May. My partner is the same way. We're also putting away money for trips to San Francisco in June for Pride and Disneyland for my partners B-day in October.

So....today in the mail I get a flyer for 5 nights six days stay at Disney Resorts in Orlando, which includes one park per day tickets each day. Also, thrown in is a $500 Disney gift card. For only $594 per person.

So....stupid me checks ticket prices from Dallas to Orlando for the times of March through mid April. Round trip for the two of us totals 500.

So....complete trip to WDW, staying in the resort, 500 gift card and the only draw back is the tickets aren't parkhopper.

We can go for around $1100 total! PLUS have $500 to spend on pins!

OMG........I think I peed a little.

I can't make up my mind what to do! Should I be good and save our money or charge up a credit card? :confused3

Charge it! And to put the cherry on top you CAN upgrade those tickets to hoppers for $100 more......live a little. (says the woman deep in debt :rolleyes1 )

Huh. didn't know you could do that.

I just realized it's 594 PER person. I was thinking total for the both. Still, amazing deal I think. $1700 for an entire trip.

*sigh*

It's how I got hooked for September. Pin was for free dining, 7 nights eight days, 6 day PH, king bed, Coronado Springs $1900. This does not inclued flights but I have a free flight on United and a free flight for Delta so hopefully I'd only have to pay plane fare for one us us.

I think I would have already booked the trip with those prices. You've showed some amazing strength already. Your reward, the trip!

If you are that close to paying off all your debt, incurring a few thousand is not a big deal.

Debt is not a bad thing in moderation, it's over your head drowning that is.

While there is some serious pixie dust enabling going on here, far be it from me to buck that trend. :teeth:

Dude, for those prices, you should go. I would love to have that offer. Not that the 4/3 deal isn't great, but you are getting a kick butt deal. :thumbsup2

That so needs to be a tag...

For $1700, if you watch your spending would it really add too much to your debt? If yes, maybe you should wait. If no, go for it!!

Normally I'm very anti-debt ... but you're paying things off and moving in the right direction. In the big scheme of things, the money you spend on this trip won't really be that much and you'll be gaining a whole lot more and on the balance sheet of life that's a plus. I say go for it!!! Life is too short - you don't want to look back on things and say "gee, we should have gone on that trip". Oh, and have fun!:thumbsup2

It kills me to say this....we're going to hold off.

We sat down last night and talked about it for a LONG time. We're notorious for making quick, rash decisions then regretting it later. We would have an amazing time on the trip and hopefully get to met a few of you, but in the end, we would come home and have to deal with the aftermath.

Deals like this are probably going to happen again from time to time due to the economy. They're doing anything and everything to get people to WDW, so it will happen again. The deal didn't state where we would have been staying or anything like that.

We both worry about our jobs. I think it's only normal since I work in the mortgage industry. We need to pay off everything by May, so we can go to San Francisco in June with no worries. The trip is already paid for except for spending money. We should have most of our October trip to Disneyland paid for by August as well.

Needless to say, I'm bummed. I know we'll get out there some day, but not right now. :(

Being mature and responsible kind of sucks sometimes, doesn't it?

It's a bummer, to be sure. But it sounds like you made the best decision. Very wise of you.

And you're right. This won't be the last special offer. You'll be able to take advantage of another one down the line. It's not like you're NEVER going to be able to visit WDW again. It's just something to look forward to.:thumbsup2

I am glad you made a decision that is right for you two.

Thanks everyone. We decided when we go, we want to do it right. Take a full 7 days off and see everything we can and not have to worry about money.

Plus, I just found out that my Ex and his new hubby are going to be there during that same time. He would have ended up being overly sweet and SO happy to see us :rolleyes1 and insist that we hang out and enjoy the parks together.

That alone is reason to stay here.

Well, we actually get along ok. I think that his new hubby is a great guy. We see them out once in a while and exchange the cordial hugs and air kisses, asking how each other is doing. That's about as far as it goes now.

Remember the TinkerBear pics? That was him and his new partner dressed up with us. First time we actually hung out together since the Big Break Up.

You would probably enjoy the look on my partners face if we were to run into them more then me. He canNOT hide his emotions. :)

As long as you guys are fine with the decision then it's all good. But CA in October? Isn't it still like super hot. You should totally come to FL at the end of October where all the cool NYers will be. :rolleyes1

Well being that I'm from Texas, hot to us is when it reaches 95. When it's 90 degrees is a cool front. :) When it was 85 in July last year, people were complaining about the heat at DLR and we were LOVIN' it.

Ya, kinda forgot about that part. Everytime I go to Houston no matter when, I've always been dying from the heat. It's the only thing I don't like about TX.

We got to see the Nightmare overlay during our last years Christmas trip as well as the IASW Christmas overlay as well. Going back in October for halloween, we'll be able to see the HM overlay again. :)
