I did QSFB last summer. I worked at Casey's Corner. For QSFB, you could either work in QSR (restaurants like Casey's Corner, Pizza Planet, Cosmic Ray's ect), or ODF (carts, snack windows, ect).
At Casey's, I would be either in the front (Front of House) or in the back (Back of House). In the front, the positions include working the register, filling the orders, stocking, cleaning the topping bars, greeter, ect. In the back, the positions include cleaning, prepping the food, working the friers, putting the orders together, stocking, ect.

I would wait until she checks in before getting shoes. It could be black sneakers, white sneakers, black flats, brown boots (AK), ect. There is no way to know.

Thanks Joanna!:goodvibes I'm a little worried how she will purchase shoes without having a car. There is no way she can take her car with her. I might have to stay in FL until she knows where she will be working and what she will need?
Do you know if there are any places close by that she can purchase shoes, bedding, etc. at?

No car is not a problem (I have not had a car with me for any of my CPs). There are shoes for sale at Walmart (the buses go there). It is also possible to walk to a shopping complex that has a shoe store (and for another option, there is a shoe van that comes by- CMs get a discount at it).

I did QSFB at Pizzafari for the last Spring Advantage program and I loved it, even though it was definitely hard work. The best way to describe it, I think, is that you will be one piece of a complex and well-oiled machine. You can get assigned to high guest interaction assignments, such as bussing (sorry-- dining room attendant!), cashier, or serving at the counter, or low guest interaction assignments like prep, stocker, or actually making the food (we called this position the Hearth, since we stood in front of a giant oven and shoveled out pizzas and sandwiches). You will likely get 2 to 6 assignments every shift, so you won't get stuck in one position all day.
A lot of people complain about the QSFB role because it is so much hard, hot, sweaty work, and it is in a very, very fast-paced environment, but it can also be very enjoyable. Oh, and my costume was great! It was very light, loose-fitting material like pajamas... very nice to have on a hot day!

My son is currently doing his CP QSFB at the food court (the Mara) at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Like some others have said, he is being trained in all areas. His first week he did the beverage station which was not fun. They basically have a daytime shift (anywhere from 6 am - 8 am start until 3 or 4 in the afternoon) and an evening shift (from about 3-4 pm until 11 pm - 12 am). AKL has been having low occupancy so next week he is being "loaned out"' to one of the All Star Resorts food courts (not sure which one). He's been working about 37 hours a week except for last week when he only had 27 hours! I'm sure that will pick up with the upcoming spring break/Easter crowds.

QSFB is probably one of the most intense roles. Lots of work. Also a lot of opportunities to get injured. A lot of us got seriously injured - burns, I ended up in a cast, another girl was carried out on a stretcher when something fell off a shelf and hit her on the neck. So it's something you really have to be careful in. I worked for Stands West in MK, which is a step up from ODF. ODF is strictly carts - pop, ice cream, popcorn - and they roll in in the morning and out at night. Those carts are incredibly heavy. At night, they fill up the pop carts to prepare for the next day. Stands stayed and we brought the food out to them. At the restaurants, you can do register or beverages or cleaning the dining room, and I'm sure there's more. Pros of QSFB include making more money than the other roles and you are guaranteed a lot of hours. Plus, a lot of the extra shifts you can pick up in other locations are for QSFB so you are already trained. A lot of people work QSFB so you will make a ton of friends. Lots of guest interaction, which can be good. Unless you're not in the mood that day. Oh, and when you're training, you can sample the food for free.

Yes. The way I look at it, if you go into a place and you purchase your food before you eat it or don't have a server, it's probably a quick service restaurant.
I knew 5 people who did things in quick service. Two of them picked up shifts when we weren't getting a lot of hours. They both loved the change of pace (from FSFB to QSFB.) One of them did ODF as a CP. She loved it mostly for the people she worked with (she worked in Epcot). The other two worked in resorts. I'm not sure they liked it very much, lol.

I'll be doing QSF&B for spring 2010~ Leaving in 21 days!
Is the main street bakery considered QSF&B? Iv looked at different sites with the disney food locations on them. Some say they are QSF&B but some only say "snacks". Are those "snack" places considered qsf&b?

Do you mean the store where they sell all of the candy? I'm pretty sure that's merchandise. Some merchandise areas require you to prepare food.
If you are talking about the confectionery (on the end corner of Main Street), where they sell ice cream, that's a QSFB location.
Oh I thought the confectionery was the candy store?

Ah, I'm sorry. That totally makes sense now. I don't know why I thought that, it wouldn't make sense that that would be ice cream, lol.
But yeah, I'm pretty sure that's merchandise. The ice cream parlor would be QSFB. Sorry about that!

I got accepted for QSFB for the Summer Alumni program that begins on May 17, but then they extended the offer of a spring quarter term from march 24th to August 13th so im doing that ill be leaving on friday and stayin in fort wilderness with the fam until i check in next wed...
Cool thing is i got a call two days ago from Epcot saying my "discover day" at EPCOT was scheduled for next tuesday and that ill be doing outdoor foods... haha i had to call and clear things up because i dont actually check in till the next day but i was one of the first to find out where im working so thats awesome...
Has anyone done ODF at Epcot? whats the costumes like? last time i did my program in spring 09 and i was custodial it was way laid back so this will be a huge change of pace

My friend worked in that location. I am not sure of the costume, but she spoke highly of it and enjoyed it more than FSFB.

I worked QSFB during my Fall Advantage 2008 CP and loved it. I worked in Stands East in MK(Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, and Toontown). There are some of dangers involved but as long as you're careful you'll be ok. Disney also trains you about how to deal with situations that could turn dangerous. I wouldn't worry about that though.
It is busy (especially in the parks) but remember, time FLIES when you're busy. You'll begin your shift in the morning and then realize your shift is almost over. Don't ever give up. It's worth it to stay and finish your program (7 months is a long time to be away from home). Having a good record card and good standing with the company will pay off later in life. It really comes down to how your outlook on it is. If you go in feeling mad that you didn't get your first choice, you're not going to have a good time. So...Think positive! :thumbsup2

hi everyone =)
someone probably has asked this...so im sorry if this is repeated!
but i have been accepted for the fall 2011 program as a QSFB cast member and i was just wondering if CP's are ever able to work at Aloha Isle in MK.
also, as far as requesting there as a work location, if i were to call the recuriting number, what should i say?

I guess I'm kind of wondering the same thing as MelissaB103. The thought of having to work in a kitchen/prep food freaked me out so I called and requested ODF, but now I'm wondering if it was a mistake if ODF is only the tiny drink/popsicle carts. There are some places that seem unclear on what they are. Technically Aloha Isle is a building, but people approach the window/order area from outside so I was wondering if that is an ODF.
Also, is it acceptable to call and ask to be placed in a specific location?

Yes, you can call or email and request a location. There is no guarantee that you will get that location, but I heard most of the time they give it to you.
Is Aloha Isle the place where they sell the dole whips? If it is, then yes it is considered to be ODF. The only places that are considered counter service is where they sell full lunches/dinners. So, even if it's in a building, if they only sell snacks, it's ODF. ODF can include anything from ice cream, pretzels, popcorn, funnel cakes, churros, fruits, and yes even sandwiches and chicken strips. The Main Street Bakery and the Ice Cream Parlor in MK are two good places to work at.

ODF descriptions are vague... like, all soft serve ice-cream at DHS is ODF, but hard scoops are QSFB.
DHS ODF is definitely NOT just small beverage and ice cream carts... while we do have those carts, we also have Oasis Canteen which does soft serve and funnel cakes, Herbies (hot dogs, corn dogs, slushies), Woody's Hey Howdy Hey Take Away (popcorn and slushies), Rock Station (frozen lemonade, smoothies, soft serve), and Animation, Hollywood and GMR Popcorn. With the exception of Woody's, all of the above locations are air-conditioned. DHS ODF also does Fantasmic, which could include either vending (walking up and down Sunset Blvd and the ampitheatre) or working one of the pods which sell popcorn, pretzels, hot dogs, and drinks.
If you do call and ask for a place, I would definitely suggest trying for DHS... the managers there are pretty awesome (although two have left since I started =/), the coordinators are great, and so are the full-time, part-time, and seasonal CMs. You also get moved around enough that you have a good mixture of carts and booths.

Thanks for the advice y'all and for clearing up what ODF includes. I guess I'll call and see if I can request a place, although I feel bad because it must look demanding! For me, my happiness with the role of QSFB is really going to depend on the location. I was dreading the role itself, but if I got somewhere like Aloha Isle or the Ice Cream Parlor at the Magic Kingdom, I would be happy as a clam! :goodvibes

You won't look to demanding, trust me! They try to be as accommodating with your preferences as possible. They don't want you to be miserable if they pick a location that you hate. They can't give you your top role all the time, but they at least try to give you your top location. I heard 90 percent of the time, they do listen to your request and give it to you. They want you to at least be happy with your assigned location rather than miserable. I, myself, requested to work at either Epcot or the Emporium at MK. They replied back that they wrote those requests down on my application and they will try to be as accommodating as possible, but to remember it's not a guarantee. Give it a try by emailing. (better than calling because you have something in writing as proof)

Emailing really hasn't worked too well for me. I've emailed twice before and haven't gotten responses back (and I emailed a long time ago). I don't think they are blocked from my email account though because I got an email of my receipt for paying my program assessment fee. I never got an email for being accepted though, just the packet in the mail, so maybe there is something wrong with my email. If I trusted my email, I would definitely email because I'm with you that having something in writing probably is better.

Well, that's kind of sad given that I've already been told my hourly wage is only $7.56. Other than bare minimum wage, you can't get much lower. LOL. I'm not doing it for the money anyway, I'm just saying that seems a bit sad if that's considered one of the higher paying CP roles.

Well I was there in 2009, It may have changed. I started at my role which wasn't QSFB at 7.25. I then got a raise and made 7.50 for the rest of my program. Maybe they have changed it, because I'm pretty sure my roommate who did QSFB and OFS and made between 8-9 dollars. I also have read it somewhere, I just can't remember where. I will try to find it.:upsidedow

Quick question for people who have done QSFB...
How intense is working in the kitchen/food prep? I'm not saying that I think all Disney food is pre-made instead of being made from scratch, but it just seems tough to believe that everything is made right there since there are soooo many people to feed! I was considering calling to request a specific location, but I'm really trying to avoid that and just see what I get and where it takes me. If I did get a QS restaurant though where food prep was part of it, I'd want to know how intense it is. It can't be super hard since we aren't culinary students/chefs! :rotfl:

Oh no it's basically all frozen and pre-made in quick service, and you're basically just heating things up. In the cases of places that have REAL food (my location had roast chicken and such) you have culinary people who handle all that, the whole seasoning and cooking and stuff. All you really do is heat things up...and fry french fries

I think QSFB is a job that everyone has fun with. During my fall 2009 DCP I worked at Sunset Ranch Market @ DHS. Although my (girl) costume was from backwoods Mississippi, I loved it there. QSR is always busy, which makes your shift go by fast, and you meet EVERYONE. I personally loved bussing tables outside and talking to guests. I even won the award for Best Busser, haha. And I don't know if it's like this everywhere, but, free drinks!

No the free drinks is for QSFB and maybe FSFB, only food service people...as much fountain drinks/slushi's/iced tea as you want. As long as it's not packaged in a bottle you can drink it, lol.

One of my favorite things about QSR was my co-workers. It seemed like an even split between Chinese girls, Brazilian boys ( oh yes, haha) and Haitians. I got to learn to speak some of each language and everything. The diversity of the co-workers makes everyday interesting . And you see them for so long that you really get to know them. Or maybe they just liked me because I had a car and would drive people home :P

My location was the same, lots of international kids, I loved the Chinese girls to death though. I think part of the fun was hanging out with kids who were new not only to Disney World but to America, it made everyday exciting, lol. Especially when there was language confusion. (Usually in the form of me blinking when they tried to teach me Chinese, lol)

I don't know what the official consensus is, but I would never request 5. If I was a recruiter, that would annoy me. I'd say one or two tops. I was going to make even one request but thought better of it because I want a mystery and if I'm meant to get something then I will.

I worked at one of the All Star Resorts and LOVED it!
When I first found out I'd be working at a Value Resort, I admittedly was pretty sad about it. I really wanted to work in a park, but I loved it so much that I can't imagine working anywhere else. (And I'm actually Seasonal there now! Hurray!)
I loved it! We had so many different locations that we could work each day, so we could be doing something completely different. (So one day, I could be serving ice cream, and the next day I could be putting fries on plates with burgers, and the very next I could be cleaning tables.) The nice part about my location also was that you were either trained for nights or you were trained for mornings, so you would have a relatively consistent schedule. (I would overhear people on the busses for the parks talking about their schedules and I'd be so thankful that mine was the way it was!)
We also had dance parties for our guests when it wasn't super busy, so they were always a lot of fun!
I second what other people said--it can get really busy! But those were actually some of my favorite times because the time went by faster, and even though it got stressful, you didn't have to take that home with you so it was okay. It really is what you make of it, though. Some of my best friends in my location absolutely hated the job, so you just have to go in there with a positive attitude and find the good things. You aren't ALWAYS going to have a good day (I definitely didn't), but you really do have Guests that will come along and make those horrible days better. As far as cooking is concerned, we had culinaries that did the major brunt of it, but we did a little, like putting pizzas in an oven, frying nuggets and fries, and putting salads together for Guests (which really isn't cooking if you think about it, but it's making food so I guess it kind of counts). It wasn't hard AT ALL, and Disney emphasizes safety so you don't have to worry about getting hurt. We'd laugh about our battle scars, but they happened mostly when we weren't being super careful.
And about the pay, I was there Fall Advantage 2010 (so I just got back a couple of months ago) and I got paid $7.56. Except for when I trained, then I got $8.56, which was nice. (The training thing was also nice! I didn't know that CPs could become trainers, but one of my best friends was a trainer, and I was trained by two Spring Advantage CPs.) I heard rumors that Magic Kingdom Cast Members got paid more, but I didn't personally know anyone that worked QS at the Magic Kingdom.

Thanks so much! When I first saw QSFB as my role I was upset, not gonna lie. But then I remembered you can request a location even though it's not guaranteed, and I had to remember that I'm there for new experiences, meeting people, and interacting with guests so I'm super excited now! I was mainly worried about the cooking because, well, I can't :confused3. But reading these boards helps A LOT!! :cool1:

I got assigned to work QSFB for the Fall Advantage 2011 program. I was feeling a little apprehensive about it because I worked at a fast food restaurant for two years and I wanted a little change. After reading this thread though I feel a whole lot better. I think I'm ready for June!

I honestly made more friends and had more fun with my fellow CM's when I was QSFB than when I did my second program in entertainment. It was something I really missed when I came back. In QSR I spent so much time with the same people on such a regular basis that it was easy to make friends. It wasn't like I enjoyed the tasks of working fast food more than I did being a character, obviously being a character was much more fun for me, but I really missed working so closely in a team enviroment and getting to hang out with the other CM's.

ANYWHERE! if's there a fast food joint, CPs pretty much run it. I worked QSFB in Hollywood Studios and my area had 10 restaurants in it and each CP was responsible for training in 3 of the locations. But they all pretty much worked the same so I worked at all 10. Then there's parked like MK where theres a themed restaurant in each land. My roommate worked at a resort and depending on the resort size there will be one or two restaurants at them. That have some early hours because there's breakfast lunch and dinner.

I just received my invitation for QSFB and I was not so happy. Mainly because I did work for 2 years during high school at a fast food place, and I loved it but hated it. I think I hated it because it would get soo slow and I would get bored. But then I loved it because it was the most fun I had ever had in a job, mainly because the people i worked with. But now I am actually pretty excited to do QSFB because of this post. But I have a question do most QSFB cast members have a costume to wear.

Almost every single cast member is required to wear a costume. The only ones who don't wear a costume are the higher ups (managers, directors, vice presidents, etc) and the ones who work backstage in the offices.

Oh yes. We have costumes. Some of them get really ridiculous too. Sunset Boulevard when I was working QSFB had polka dot dresses with sun flower aprons and sunhats, and another strange pastel stripy swing pants type thing.
My location was a more tame, black pants, red or blue apron, white shirt with stripes on the sleeves and a newsboy cap.

The costume with the polka dot dress and sunflower apron and sunhat is the exact type of costume I want. Just something excessively silly and Disney. Some of the other, standard QSFB costumes bore me but at the same time look silly in a "that's normal but looks weird" way. Like the whole pants basically up to your chest thing. Ugh. I'm nearing the end of my program after doing QSFB at Cosmic Ray's in the Magic Kingdom. I'm trained in cash and counter. Some thoughts...
* It is a higher paid role. I make $8.31 an hour (MK premium location pay)
* It is the THIRD busiest fast food restaurant IN THE WORLD at the moment (was second until a couple months ago)
* With that said, on days when it's busy, it's not uncommon to have cashiers ring nearly 100 transactions in an hour, sometimes more.
* On days when it's not as busy as anticipated, it's very likely that you'll be able to go home early
*Most nights, the latest you'll ever be stuck there is 1 hour after park closing. On EMH, Cosmic's only stays open until 1 am. Grad nights (like tonight!! :scared1:) it's possible to be there until 5:15 am.
* I usually get between 38-45 hours a week these days. The most I was ever scheduled was 55.
* A few of the roles are extremely high in guest interaction, some not so much.
* It can get hectic and overwhelming when it's busy very quickly. Some guests will complain about anything and everything. Heck, alot of guests will complain about anything and everything even when it's not busy.
*It would be extremely useful (as it would be in all CM jobs at Disney) to have a basic understanding of a foreign language (especially Spanish/Portuguese)

I'm replying to this just to emphasize how right it is!
Do you know which restaurants are the first and second though/ THAT'S INSANE to be third. I never knew. Then again, I stayed away from Cosmic Rays, EXCEPT for when I was there at Grad Nite, LOL. It must suck to work that. I remember being ashamed that I was graduating with all those hooligans in the park. I worked a marathon, the Pop Warner football game, and Night of Joy though, so I know whats it's like to work until those hours.
AND YES, LEARN SOME PORTUGUESE! I speak Spanish and many CP's didn't know the diff. which was silly, but it happened so much I ended up learning key words and phrases in Portuguese.

You can survive without knowing any foreign languages but you'll have to get good with hand motions! You'll start figuring out how to tell what people are trying to tell you when they're speaking another language just based on their movements.
Plus it's more than likely that you'll have co-workers who do speak spanish or whatever language and they can help you out when you can't understand someone.

I can vouch for this. I don't work there (yet!) but from working at McDonald's in an area that has a lot of hispanic and asian people, you learn which hand motions mean which food. I am horrid with languages, but it's not too hard to get by. If it really comes down to it, grab the nearest person that knows the language, and watch to see if you can recognize anything for future experiences.

To request a location you just email the general College Program email: wdw.college.recruiting@disney.com
I requested a location through that email and got a response back saying that there were no guarantees but it would be noted in my file, which is apparently the same email everyone gets when they make a request. I think requesting 1 or 2 places is fine, but i wouldn't put any more than that. Just a short, polite email saying "I know there are no guarantees, but if possible I'd like to work at _____. Thanks!" should be sufficient :) It seems to have worked for me in the past ;)

I don't think emails are the most efficient way to get in contact. I've emailed a few times for various questions/requests and never heard back, but nothing is wrong with my email because I get other emails from them. I ended up calling twice. I'm considering calling to request a specific location, even though I've already requested ODF, I want to get more specific.
As far as the number, I don't have it off hand but it isn't hard to find. It's the main college program number and when you call it gives you options, like press this for this and there's a number you can press to speak about questions and requests.

That's almost how I feel. I may or may not end up calling to request a specific location. I've debated about it for months. I start June 13th so it's probably getting too close to request by now anyway. Like you, I've just been thinking about not annoying them and how I might like a surprise. Karma may do me right by knowing that even though I did NOT want QSFB, I'm being a good sport and accepting it and not being annoying asking for a specific place, so maybe I'll get put in a place I want. haha. Horrible rationale there.
I just want to work at an ice cream only place so bad. Auntie Gravity's or Aloha Isle for example would be my top picks. I already called and requested ODF though so I don't know what to do.

*It would be extremely useful (as it would be in all CM jobs at Disney) to have a basic understanding of a foreign language (especially Spanish/Portuguese)
I probably know you. I also work at the counter at Cosmic Rays.
Other things...
*Our pay has increased from $7.56 to $7.65. Total = $8.40 (including MK $0.75 premium)
*We're mainly busy during lunch. We have a small rush during dinner, but not as bad as lunch. Other than that, it's dead for the most part.
*We do door control during lunch (I hate it). Basically, we only let guests in certain doors and tell them that they can't enter through other doors. Also, if they want to sit where Sunny Eclipse is, then we have to make sure they have their food before they are seated. We also have to find a table for them if they want to sit there.
**Door control FYI: People who are in charge of the doors stand outside in the heat. Lovely...
*There are a lot of Haitians working at Cosmics and they can be rude.
*Counter positions: Fillers 1-12 (the people who give you your food), counter stocker, 2 drink stations at every bay (3 bays), topping bar, rails greeter (sweep around topping bar), topping bar stocker, and condiment bar.
*Greeter positions: Bay greeters, sometimes you will be opening doors for guests, people doing door control
*Guests ask the same questions over and over again, but you gotta remember that they are just asking a question.
*Guests change their minds a lot, which annoys the kitchen people a lot because they have to remake the food. The drinks person may get annoyed too because they make the drinks that are shown on the monitor.

Not sure if this has been covered but my daughter works at Casey's. When you work at Casey's you are part of a team that covers Casey's, the Main Street Bakery and the Ice Cream Store.
She often works very late. Last night/this morning to 5:30. Tonight she is scheduled till 4:30 but expects it to be later since quite a few called in sick tonight. It is currently grad night weekend

Reading all this stuff about Cosmic Ray's is bringing back memories of the tougher side of QSFB, I mean it was never really that gruesome but there were moments you wanted whack a guest with an ice scoop.
I remember we had this lady who called my manager to complain about me because I took too long to give her EXTRA BBQ sauce. W
We were super busy, and out of BBQ sauce and me being nice told her to give me a few an went to ANOTHER restaurant to get some.
She repays me by telling my boss I took too long and her sandwich is cold and she wants a new one.
I had to spend 10min in his office hearing the always please the guest lecture.
I feel like I should of gotten a medal for dealing with that horrible lady with a constant smile on my face.
Moral of the story? While I loved my job there will be those days and those moments when it's just blech

I'm kinda sick of that question cuz it implies that I'm exaggerating or am not a hard worker. Not everyone is gonna like their role. I don't like this one. There's a lot of reasons.
I don't think that is implied at all...:confused3

Stands East in MK. It includes Auntie Gravity's, Lunching Pad, Cool Ship, Enchanted Grove, Storybook Treats, and Friar's Nook.
Say no more. You're doing foods in MK. I feel your pain. The QSFB people in MK used to complain about how horrible it was on a regular basis. It was enough to make me never feel like I had anything bad to say about the studios. You're only a few days in though, it should start getting more fun when you start making more friends. Then you can focus more on friendships than work and still have a blast.

I've heard a lot about the crazy shifts at MK (like 11pm-5am yikes!) but would someone be able to give me a general idea of what the shifts typically are in the other parks?
