From Barb (Jilljill): Train, coach or private transfers.
Easiest place to catch the train or coach is Victoria Station, but there are a couple of other connection options in the city. There are many private transfers available but can be outrageous due to the distance, about 2 hours.
Last summer we used the National Express Coach and it was around $60 for the 3 of us one way. Had I booked it sooner it would have been cheaper. Will definately book it at 12 weeks out for this cruise.
I've found some links for transfers:

I do not believe that, I do that to the people on the 'wonder' thread.
Now funny thing,
New thread started up saying DCL considering San Diego as a home port, for West cost cruises.
I posted that at least TWICE on different threads, in the last two months!!!! (and was told it wouldn't happen! why will people not listen to me?)

Whilst I have posted about this since early January it could be a 'ploy' to knock down costs at LA, the same was done with Tampa and PC to get a good deal at PC.

I love San Diego.........
I agree . . . I just think it would be strange for DCL to use a port farther away from Disneyland . . . not that San Diego is that far from Anaheim, I suppose. I suspect Andrew is correct and DCL is bargaining for the best deal.

You might be lucky then........:wizard:
But............
Whilst I have posted about this since early January it could be a 'ploy' to knock down costs at LA, the same was done with Tampa and PC to get a good deal at PC.
Nothing against San Diego, but it would have to be an amazing deal for them to walk away from all the advantages of Long Beach. Not only do you have more flexibility in terms of offering vacation packages, you have potentially huge staff savings as they can cross-train current Disney cast members to handle much of the shore activities, registration, etc.

I agree . . . I just think it would be strange for DCL to use a port farther away from Disneyland . . . not that San Diego is that far from Anaheim, I suppose. I suspect Andrew is correct and DCL is bargaining for the best deal.
Well we both know that Andrew is correct.:cutie:

I was careful in my postings on San Diego, as its one you could get egg on your face, I was a little surprised the 'confirming' newspaper article came out now, but it was nice to 'confirm' what some of the rumors were.
We have seen this before, a few years ago, DCL was 'seriously' thinking about moving its operations to Tampa, so serious that it was able to negotiate a great deal at PC, where PC pay a lot of the improvements.
Tampa would have added time travailing from WDW, two hours instead of one, and yes staff costs, registration costs etc, but PC took it seriously.
The same is true on SD, it could be a ply by DCL to hammer out a great deal, they are going to have the Magic there all year round so they need the best deal.
Its sensible to look at the options and no go with just one port. I do not know the area's problems on traffic as well as you guys but feel the situation on distance is exactly the same for SD as Tampa.
SD however helps the potential for trips to Hawaii, as the ships are Bahama registered so have to have one port outside USA,they can quickly call at Mexico before traveling across the pacific.
I would say its 50/50 at the moment.

Andrew, what do you think they plan to do with the ship there? Will they still go to Alaska without the Glacier Bay permit? Hawaii despite the long Pacific crossing? Of course they will do the Mex Riviera part of the year, but what else? You are a font of knowledge!

Earlier this year I posted and thought:-
Early Wesbound Repo I posted Feb/March and that article says those dates.
Then 7 night Mex Riviera
Then I said like Europe /Baltic2010, a small repo up the coast,
Alaska cruises,
Then a small repo back
Then more Mex Riviera, but NO E/bound repo.
Questions now on the Alaska bit, will they go without Glacier bay? DCL said, 'they' pulled out, views were they would have got 1 license, but with conditions but DCL pulled out saying it didn't fit with their plans. Alaska income against costs its not as good as elsewhere.
So I think IMHO Alaska is off, but thats opinion.

Good questions, Now they have a new boss it can all change, I discounted Hawaii a lot re the high number of sea days in a row, but a couple of cruises there is possible from SD.
I wouldn't 'rule' Alaska completely out but I do think personally its dead.
Maybe longer Mexican Riviera cruises down to Acapulco for say 10/11 nights?

Personally I was terribly underwhelmed by Acapulco, but perhaps there are some other more southern ports they could use to make a nice 10/11 night itinerary . . .
It's going to be interesting. With the economy what it is, and a new CEO, they must be taking a second look at everything.

Yes, been to Acapulco three times and I agree, but... its shore trips and income, there is lots to do there, and lots of commission to be earnt, like the Dolphins at Cici water park etc.
Its not just the destination its the income, ie Europe in 2007 did very well because of a high take up on expensive shore trips which DCL takes a good commission on.
Nothing can be ruled in or out with a new boss and basically Disney Will Be looking for quick changes (income) but in reality unless you 'pull' 2010 Europe cruises, the earliest he can do anything is 2011. And with new ships he has more choice.
We know the new ships will go from PC, and with the economy as it is they will play safe, West coast is a 'banker' and its on the three year cycle so I cannot see the foundations on that changing.

They would not be able to 'dock' that that DVC resort, people link the two together, it has a port but it cannot accomodate cruise ships.
But a 'link' is possible.

I don't think they'll reinvent the wheel. Carnival and RC have a proven year round business model of 3/4 night cruises out of Long Beach. Visits to Mexico, Catalina, San Diego. DCL does the same 3/4 night gig out of PC on the Wonder.
I think that's most of what you'll see on the West Coast. Lots of package deals with Disneyland. Discounts for annual pass holders. They'll be able to draw not only on the tourist business, but the huge local market (Orlando metropolitan area has 2 million residents, vs 17 million L.A.). Basically treat the ship like a third theme park.
Regarding San Diego - traffic IS a big deal. A huge deal. One can't express in mere words the nature of traffic in the L.A. area. I used to live there, and every time I visit it's worse. Took me 90 minutes last week to get from Burbank to Buena Park (should have been 30 minutes).
Even Disneyland to Long Beach is a mess - San Diego is unimaginable.
Anyway, that's my guess. Wouldn't go against Andrew though - I'm sure he has DCL headquarters wired with hidden listening devices. :rolleyes1

I did not go with Disney, but I did go to the Mexican Riviera and I wasn't too impressed with any stop. I said I would never go again, but I might force :rotfl: myself to go on the Magic.
On the PC repo cruise this past summer, we stopped at Cabo and Puerto Vallarta, and I would go back to both -- I also heard good things about Matzalan from those who did the 7 night cruises that stopped there. I just didn't care for Acapulco.

We spent a week in PV about 16 or 17 years ago and liked it. It's so different seeing the Mexican ports from a longer stay than just a few hours.
We liked Matzalan when we were there on the MR in 2005, did a great tour with Matzalan Frank, who posts on the DIS every so often. Wasn't too thrilled with Cabo because it was so hot and humid and I was miserable in the humidity. But what we saw of Cabo was pretty was really clean.
I would go on another MR cruise with DCL, now that I know to expect a whole different crowd than what we are used to sailing with in the Caribbean or to the Bahamas.

Unfortunately, a 3/4 day cruise won't get you that far south. Ensenada is the most common port for the short cruises. Blech. But Catalina is pretty nice. And there's plenty to do in San Diego.

I wouldn't do a short cruise on the west coast -- If I'm going to CA, I would make it a longer trip, do DL and a beach for a few days and then do a longer cruise (7 days or more) if they had it . . .

We went in October and maybe it was just the excursions we went on. But the humidity way like 120%. I was on an excursion that involved a folk show, shopping and the a buffet at a resort were we could swim. After shopping we had to walk 2 blocks to the resort. It took 10 minutes to change, my clothes were stuck to me. I have never experienced that before.

Firstly, evening all, working on my new laptop, a bit slow on the internet, but I presume it will speed up.
Only one ship will move in 2011 as the new ships come in 2011 and 2012, There is debate if the first new ship takes over the wonder route or the Magic 7 night routes, I thought the 7 night ones.
I guess Europe will be included and longer carribean cruises when both ships arrive but the old ships will have major refits for a longer drydock

:rolleyes1
Honolulu is not the definite port to me........we've been to Maui and Kauai and not yet Big Island but all the islands are so amazing..........HAWAII IS MY DEFINITE NOT TO BE MISSED CRUISE local............

In Cabo we did a 2 hour private horseback ride along the beach with Red Rose stables (took a taxi there), then took a taxi to the beach, rented a few chairs, some drinks and food, and enjoyed the rest of the day. I thought the water and beach were lovely there -- much like Huntington Beach, CA, which I love. In PV, we ziplined with Los Veranos (again, took a taxi to their place, then a bus from there with their group) -- super fun.

Morning, Andrew! How are things in London this morning? We in NYC are about to have a nice warm spring day:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes
Morning to both of you early riser's & all the other Disser's at sea, now I am Mustard!;)
It is a beutiful spring day here in the Valley of the Blue Hills.:goodvibes
I am off to my accountant's this morning (after dropping my oldest daughter off at figure skating) wish me luck!:worship: :scared1:
Yes we have a nice spring day here, not too warm but better than the last few cold days, at one point on Wednesday night I was driving and suddendly we had a ice and hail storm my car was covered so was the road, and all traffic came to a stop.
The strange thing was it was local, as after not moving for 20 mins or so, we then all started up and just down the road it was dry and no snow or ice?
I am working on my new laptop DD Alice is on hers now and we have funally set up a Wiifi netwrok for the house, and she is happy as her ITouch works on it as well.

I've been searching houses online to look at next weekend and gathering info on the neighborhood and such.
Can't believe we dropped to page 2. :scared1:
Hey Barb -- I'm going to Opal's on 52nd Street for lunch today -- some nice person gave me a gift certificate:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

I would say here in the UK, from what I remember we never seemed to get this sudden events, yes we have had hail, snow winds before, but not these local extremes, it was cold but sunny my car said 5c then it came down and the temp dropped to 0 in a minute or so.
We have had our coldest winter for 18 years+ now, hope with spring coming we are getting away from it, its sunny at 6am to 6pm now so looking good.

Remember that climate change caused by human factors (better name than global warming) leads to more extremes, so not surprising, really.:sad2:

AND THIS SIDE, DO NOT DO IT TONIGHT...
Dont know why as we swap to months before longest night, but swap for Spring three months after it, think of all the extra fuel wasted. USA seems 'ahead' of us, well it will be.

We also bought a HP in January (desktop version). One month after getting it home and all updated, had a hard drive crash. So they sent me a new hard drive for me to install!! I took it to work and had 4 volunteers to install the hard drive. (The wonders of working in IT). It only took them 10 minutes to change out the drive and they had all the correct size tools.
Three hours later and Windows was reinstalled. Still working on installing all of the other programs from the old computer(again).

I've been gradually bringing up a new desktop machine. Built this one myself - it's been a while, but none of the machines I found had quite the right combination of features.

Agree....I think the updates caused the issue, Now if this PC has been in store for a time in its box, then its getting a lot in one go, I looked at the list and it was very long, so a fix on a fix, might cause the crash.

Hi Everyone. Just thought I'd let you have an update on the FIL business. Unfortunately, it is not good. My FIL passed away on Wednesday night about 8:40 pm. But something wonderful did come out of it. He was released (really shouldn't have been) from the hospital and arrived at his home about 7:15. He managed to crack a joke when the EMTs were placing him in the ambulance, all he wanted to know was whether he had to drive home himself. :upsidedow He managed to hang in long enough to say more final words of wisdom before he slipped into sleep/coma and he was surrounded by his wife, one son (my DH) and his grandchildren and myself. He was in dire pain at the end and was on 10mg of morphine pr hour but he was fully aware of everyone and everything. He never really became delirious or delusional which I am very grateful for. The hospice nurse arrived at 8:25 and he said that he seen him take two shallow breathes but he passed during the inital exam. One of the last persons to see him and hold his hand was my youngest and for this I am eternally gratefull. This was our first "real close loss" and I am extremely proud of how April handled it. I was very worried she would have nightmares but she has handled it like a trooper. She even sat at his bedside until the mortuary guy arrived to pick up the body.
So here is what I will say. As a person who normally has not had to deal with death and on the contrary has avoided talk of death, I was always afraid of thinking about it and wanted to pass in a hospital. But after this experience, I must say, when I pass, if its illness related, I would really love to pass surrounded by my loved ones as my FIL - Larry did - at home. He was in dire pain but he knew we were all there. I expected to have nightmares and be scarred but you kow - other than the normal guilt, Its not been a bad experience at all. We have even been over at my MIL's house every day since his passing and it is not "weird". He passed in the living room but somehow, none of my children are avoiding it. The only thing is that no one is sitting in Grandpa's chair. I believe this might be a bit normal and eventually someone will sit there. Other than that, things are moving ahead. Megan and I have started working on a photo slideshow which we will show at the memorial service and at the banquet. This I believe has helped everyone move on a bit as we had to scan all the pictures before we could start work on the slideshow.
So I want to thank all of you that have kept my family and I in your prayers. I thank you from the bottom of my heart and rest assured that I will do in kind if you ever need me too pray for you or your family. I will probably not be on until after the service which is supposed to occur on Sunday, March 15. From now until then, I am running around with my MIL and DH making arrangements and setting up stuff and picking up out of town guests. We are going to have a Celebration of Life after the memorial service as Larry specifically told us he didn't want any of us to cry over him. So instead, per his wishes, we will celebrate a life well-lived and a man who I can was I was proud to have known.

As sad as it is that he is gone, it is a wonderful way for him to go, at home surrounded by friends. It's odd, but a good friend of mine here in the city has had a father ill for quite some time and he died at home on Saturday, and we were just talking about how much better that is than being in the hospital in such a cold and clinical environment.
Much love to you, Laura -- my condolences to Steve -- and special admiration for April . . . Be sure and let me know if there is anything I can do and feel free to call . . .

Laura,
I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. You have described his passing in a very loving way. While it can never be easy to lose some one close to you, seeing it happen peacefully with loved ones around does give some comfort. I will continue to pray for you and your family as you adjust to this change in your family.

In time you will find comfort that he passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones and not by himself in a clinical environment. It's good that he was able to talk with everyone for a little bit.
I still have the last note my father wrote to me just over 2 years ago, he wanted to make sure that I went down to the beach house and bring back his Wheaties so he could have b'fast every morning. I told him I had already brought them back up for him. Sadly he passed away in his sleep a couple of hours later, at my house, but at least he knew his Wheaties would be waiting for him in the morning.
Laura,
Our hearts go out to you and your family.

Windows? Settle down? What a peculiar concept.... :rolleyes1

Mine is 16" and I have a fingerprint security thingie :confused3 which I haven't figured out how to use. I've got to say there have been some very interesting problems. I was watching The View this morning and they were all bundled up since the show was live and it was 8:00am. Then stupid Miley Cyrus had to come on making a fashion statement wearing a sleeveless, thin dress saying how cold she was. Thanks so much for this terrible news, MaryAnn . . . I have emailed Harole Ann and feel a bit emotionally adrift with all the deaths with our friends this week. I just came home from being with a friend who is planning what he will say at his father's funeral, which I will attend on Wednesday.
Harole Ann and Garry were a tremendous couple and a pleasure to be around, and I can hardly imagine one without the other -- and I know Harole Ann is feeling much the same now.

So please keep Harole Ann and her family in your prayers.
This is enough bad news from our Dis friends. Let's hope we only hear happy news from now on.
Laura, our deepest sympathies to your family. I am sad to hear of your FIL's passing, but I am glad that it was peaceful and he was surrounded by his loved ones. I'm sure he is at peace now. We will continue to keep your family in our thoughts and prayers.
We will keep Harole Ann and her family in our thoughts and prayers as well. Please pass along our condolences.
My condolences to Harole Ann and family. Our thoughts and prayers are with them all at this tragic time. :grouphug:
Harole Ann and her family will also be in our thoughts and prayers. :grouphug: :flower3:
Please let her know her DIS family is thinking of them.
I just wanted to share some backstory on Harole Ann and Garry......they are from West Virginia, we met them on the Med cruise 2007. They were scheduled to join us in 2010. Harole Ann has such enthusiasm for Disney, cruising, and their family. They were one of the first couples we met on the cruise in 2007. We did some wine tasting with them and Harole Ann sent us a CD of our group following our trip. A really lovely couple.......thx so much to Maryann for sharing this with all of us.......

Anyone ever done their family tree ??
My sister and I have been looking at it off and on for a while now. We've been able to go back to all 8 of our great, great grandparents but they were the first generation to arrive in the UK from Russia, Lithuania and Litvia.
Last Saturday we met a long lost 3rd cousin on my maternal grandfathers side who we didn't know about and we had a great afternoon sharing info.
What I would really like to do now is go back further but I think that would require a lottery win to fund it :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1 :rolleyes1

Yes, we found out that on my dad's side, we're from the Munich area and we come from a long line of farmers. His name is Hopf, which is possibly a form of the word "hops" which is used to make beer. There is a "Hopf" beer produced in the Munich area, so we believe that they are distant relatives. Anyone try "Hopf" beer?http://www.hopfweisse.de/

On my mother's side, there is a large Italian family. They are originally from the Naples area but have mostly moved to Milan. My mother is contact with her cousins and has visited a few times.
