I am thinking about trying for either Hospitality or Vacation Planning but since they are both competitive and my school's presentation isn't until March 9th I know I probably don't have a very good shot. I do have a lot of experience working in admissions for a large amusement park though so hopefully that will help.
I was just wondering what the job is exactly? Where do you work? Is it more of an office job or do you work in a booth somewhere? Any info at all would be great!

Vacation Planners sell the ticket media at each of the parks. They sit in the ticket booths at the enterance to the parks (and at the TTC for MK). You have a lot of guest interaction, and the hours tend to be more consistent/"normal" (no really really late nights).

March 9th isn't too late into the season. The recruiters ration the roles so that they can extend offers to students all season long.
The Vacation Planners are the cast members who sit at the Ticket Windows in the parks; it is a sales-intensive role.

Vacation Planner was my top choice and I have a vast knowledge on Disney ticket options due to assisting a disney travel agent however i didn't get the position but I got Main Entrance Operations which also says you can be selling tickets so who knows haha! So definitely good luck with it and keep us posted if you get it!!

Thanks for the help. I worked for Cedar Point last summer and have a lot of experience with ticket sales, plus, due to a massive firing of employees in my department right before I started I was in a position to take on a lot of responsibility so I figure I have a decent shot. If I don't get it that is okay too though since I wouldn't mind doing something different.

I did the CP in Fall 08 and one of my roommates worked as a vacation planner. She worked at the ticket booths at the Ticket and Transportation Center. For her the role was a little tough at first, because you are really expected to upsell in the position- get people to increase the number of days on their tickets, add options etc. Disney seems to have the selling system pretty structured- and they have a great points/incentive system for ticket sales. My roommate got $100 in gift cards based on her sales! It could be challenging, but if you have the prior experience in ticket sales, it might be a good fit for you!

DO you have any idea how tough it was to meet the quotas or were there any penalties for not meeting them? How do they track upsells?
Also, any advice for getting a role in hospitality? I am not sure which I want more but any help I can get is great.

I got accepted for vacation planner for the fall advantage. Im trying to decide what to do, because i am worried about if i didnt meet the sales requirements....do they get very upset with you?

I think the sales requirements are more to keep you motivated and push you a little farther. My roommate, who was very nervous about it, ended up reaching one of the highest levels. You wouldn't get penalized for not reaching the quotas- they might pair you up with a trainer again to coach you a little more, but I think you'd be fine.
Also in the vacation planning role, my friend got to work Parade Audience Control at the Magic Kingdom a couple times and there's also a greeter position where you stand outside the ticket booths and answer questions and direct people.
For getting a role in hospitality, it definitely helps if you have previous experience or education-if you don't have experience directly in hotels/resorts if you have any guest service abilities-definitely explain how those have prepared you for a role in hospitality.

So will you more than likely get accepted for Hospitality if you are majoring in Hospitality Management? Or is it just the luck of the draw?

I am also going to be a Vacation Planner for the fall advantage!!! Im kind of nervous about the position as well but I figure they will have to give you enough training that I don't think it will be too bad! When are you going down? Where are you living?

ok i will :) Im just waiting to hear back from a job i applied for here in Minnesota that would really help me with my career, but its looking like im not going to get it so ill probably accept.

I was a Vacation Planner in Epcot Fall 08 and had a BLAST!!! VP's are kind of a close-knit group since there's only about 40 total across the 4 parks. It's also really great for Marketing majors.
Before I started the CP I worried about making goal for tickets sold, but I didn't find it very difficult at all. As long as you just listen to the guests' needs and take time to discuss the different options it wasn't hard at all. I ended up getting the highest level (Diamond) every month and also got the highest Quartly reward (A PS3!!). It's amazing how many guests just don't understand how the ticketing works (a lot don't know that the 4 parks are connected!) and that they can use the same ticket for all four parks which is really the reason why we're there, to inform them and help them save money on vacation. (I had one guest that was going to buy 5 one-days for each day at the park until I told them about the 5-day option. It's much better to pay around $222 instead of 375!)

Yes, I just worked at Epcot. Some of the CP's got deployed to other parks for a day if there was a need but, for the most part, we stayed in are respective parks. I think in the program before us they had VP's be "global" (work in alll 4 parks) but they must've changed back.

According to the CP website vacation planners might be "Working at multiple locations – potentially all four Theme Parks in any given week"
I put that down as one of my top 3 and if I do get it I hope I get to move between the different parks
