View Full Version : Wedding stuff again!
I know you will probably think I'm silly, but I'm very nervous about planning a wedding on one of the islands. What if there's bad weather and we can't dock? I can just see me coming home from this cruise still not married! LOL
We're thinking about getting married early Saturday morning in Port Canaveral before boarding the ship. Has anyone done this or heard of it being done? I'm looking online, but most Florida destination weddings seem to be for Key West.
I appreciate any advice, help or whatever. :)

OK, I'm intrigued and I'll try to help -
I found a list of churches in Cocoa Beach, Florida in case you'd like to contact one to ask about being married in one.
Here's the link:
Cocoa Beach Churches (http://www.marinersguide.com/regions/florida/cocoabeach/churches.html)
And if you wanted to look for something like a Justice of the Peace, I found the City of Cocoa Beach Website.
This is a link to the webpage of the City Government that has the names, titles, phone numbers, and email addresses of the city's employees:
Cocoa Beach City Government (http://www.cityofcocoabeach.com/government/directory.html)
If it were me, I'd start with the City Clerk.
Finding a map of Cocoa Beach is the easiest part, don't worry about that until you've chosen the place.
I'd be willing to bet they've been asked the same question before, so they should know where to direct you to.
I hope that helps, I'm intrigued now and I'd like to help make sure you come back 'an honest woman' :D

can you get married on the ship? I really don't know but would check in to it. You know - like on the "Love Boat" ?
Anyway, congratulations on your upcoming marriage! :) :) :)

I don't think you can get married on the ship but I know their is a wedding package where you actually get married on CC. It's an extra $3K/couple. It's explained on disney's website.
Al...thanks, I wanta be an honest woman too! LOL I am checking some of those sites and numbers today!
You can't get married aboard ship...only renew vows. We considered getting married the weekend before and doing that, but it loses something!
There are two problems with the Castaway Cay wedding Disney offers. Well, three if you include price!!! :earseek: First, what if we can't dock because of weather!!!
Second, it isn't until Friday. I don't want to wait until the end of the honeymoon to get married! LOL And since we are taking 5 of our children, we figure we better get married at the beginning for propriety's sake!

Why don't you try calling some of the hotels near the port and see what they do for weddings. Most have an events dept and perhaps even a gazebo or something for receptions. Years ago I looked into hotels near us and one had an archway to put by the pool and another had a gorgeous fountain courtyard. Great places for a ceremony, and they could probably set you up with a minister or justice of the peace. (thought in Florida you just need to be a notary to marry someone) Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Now, as you can see, she is helping us with the whole thing!! Is this gal an ANGEL or what?? I am feeling so incredibly blessed right now it is amazing.

Wow, Shirley! I had no doubt you'd be able to help Fawn make sure she's an "honest woman" before she gets onboard, but I had no idea you were a notary and that notarys can perform marriages in Florida. How cool is that?!? We're going to have to figure out how to do a live webcast of this wedding!

Hello my buddy Dave,
I have been a Notary since I was 21 years old - I felt like a real big girl in Key West when I became one - my aunt sponsered me at the time to do since she had been one for eons --I have married a number of couples, but I always had to know this was it regardless - there were times I didn't not do it for the feeling was just not right - I have never charged - my request was always to stay as happy as they were on that perfect day and to pass the blessings --anyhow you know me I am so sentimental and life is so short - happiness has to be captured and kept for before we know it --we are no longer a part of the world - also I have always believed -"What memories do I want to leave behind to be remembered by" Look at Mr. Disney - he left behind an oddessy that will live forever - in the beginning it stood for everything he believed in --he was an honest and fair man that swore by mom and pop stuff - oh well time to get off my band wagon - I think Sherry should be here and we do it up good - you know I luv ya guys -----take care and hug the family for me including yourself.
Always your conch buddy
Shirley

Wow --- I can't wait to hear all of the details - and see the pictures!! Gee, I wish that I was going on that cruise ----- what a DIS meet that could be! LOL.
Ummmm --- I guess the wedding dress won't be Lime Green???:D

Sounds like this is a second marriage for both the way Fawn is talking. And anyway the Bride can wear whatever she wants, so why not a lovely KEY LIME green--in honor of the Conch-Shirley and DIS?
Is this cruise booked? If not, maybe more of us should try to go and/or come to the port for the wedding and sendoff. I can see a SEA of BUBBLES around Fawn and Ernie and the kids....

When is the big day??? I wish I could just drive on down with my bubbles -- but it is a little to far for me!;)
Now for some ideas -
How about Mickey and Minnie as best man and maid of honor?
My goodness! Live webcasts, a whole cruise, bubbles and lime green???:earseek: That'll show me not to ignore the board for a day! LOL
OK, the cruise is January 4th 7 day, so the wedding is the morning of the 4th. We'd LOVE to have you all come! Shirley, just how big a wedding cake can Pat make??
Yes, this is a second marriage....just ask our NINE kids! :D We'll have the 5 youngest there for our big day and for the cruise. We'll even have my Navy son home from overseas with us, which will be a special blessing!
As for lime green....well, umm...how about the garter??? :smooth:

WOW, what a wonderful wedding you'll have, congratulations to you both!!! And how cool that Shirley will be performing the ceremony.
We all definitely want to see lots of pictures! :) And be SURE DCL knows about your big special occasion and that you are honeymooners.
Enjoy! :)
Thank you everyone!! You are all so sweet. I just had Ernie read this thread, and he couldn't believe how everyone is getting into this. He is a little worried about the lime green, but I reassured him! :D
Let's see...the romantic story of 9 is Enough? Gee, I just hate to talk about it! :smooth: OK, ok, twist my arm!
I am a widow, and my late hubby and I were blessed with six "handpicked" joys...4 boys and then two girls! Presently they are from 28 to 11 years old, and the light of my world...most days!
I had had a wonderful marriage, and I figured that part of my life was over! Apparently I had angels watching over me who disagreed. In walked Ernie and his four...3 girls and 1 boy from 24 to 15. :Pinkbounc :bounce:
Actually, he didn't walk in...he e-mailed in! Yup, we met online! We lived 10 minutes apart for the past 15 years, had kids in the same school system, shopped at the same market, but it took the internet to put us in the same room! Go figure.
That was a year ago last week. We've been inseparable ever since. :earsgirl: :earsboy: The kids are all great and get along...can you imagine! That alone must mean something special! Oh, we also have one two year old grandson who keeps us hopping!
I don't know how I got so lucky, but I thank God every day for the blessing of another love in my life. If you keep your heart open (and your ears on:earsgirl: ) anything can happen!

Hi there
First I want to say Ispoke to Fawn and I was overwhelmed with the story of her husband and their perfect marriage and then the tragedy that closed that chapter for her - when she first wrote asking if I knew of anyone that could help her - I knew in my heart this was one request I had to be on - I feel very honored to be a part of this wonderful relationship between her and Ernie. We have so many here that are involved with this planning - all family and friends so I know it will be extra special - Norm is going to speak to security Thursday and everyone else about having it right there at the terminal where all of those that are cruising can be a part of this special union. anyhow as the plans are made - as the time comes closer I am sure Fawn will give all details that she wants to share. Thank you each for all the ideas etc - keep them coming.
Thanks for your super support for her.
Stay safe
Always
Shirley
Shirley...I repeat, you are such a SPECIAL lady! For you to devote your time and heart to helping like this brings me to tears. Hmmm...where are those wings...they're tucked up your sleeves, right??
I am so amazed at the Internet. I met Ernie here, and now I have met a new friend who is helping to plan such an important day in my life!! I'm even getting a whole shipful of guests!! I have sworn since our first date that angels have been guiding this relationship, and it appears that they are still here every step of the way!! I am SOOOOO blessed!!
Wovenwonder...sorry to Mickey and Minnie, but we already have our attendants. Ernie's son is best man, and my two daughters and one daughter-to-be will be my co-maids of honor. Shhh...I haven't asked them yet! My son will give me away. I'm trying to talk him into his dress uniform but to no avail...I'll keep at it! Maybe they could help Shirley marry us?
Dave...a live webcast...can you actually do something like that!! LOL I have to say that our kids in NJ, PA, Chicago and Thailand that can't make it would probably love it!!
I will plan on getting a digital cam between now and then, and leaving the picture disc with Shirley the day of the wedding if she has the capability to put it on line!
I promise to share all plans as we make them, and any ideas and/or advice you all want to offer, please do!! I can't believe a week ago I was sure I'd not be able to do this!
*muttering* Now where in the world do I find a lime green garter???

No, that would be WAY too expensive. I was suggesting that in the manner of a "wouldn't that be nice" suggestion.

Pictures will be fine, we don't need a video, and if Shirley can post them that would be super! If not, we will see them when you get home.
Don't worry about a lime green garter or dress. I was just kidding. How about a bouquet that includes limes--just a joke.....
Fawn: I love the story of how you met! Did any of the kids know each other from school?
Jan :earsgirl:

It's funny how our kids ages worked out. All of his are at least two years apart from mine...just far enough for no common friends or teams. I also had some in private schools off and on.
One of my boys did remember his youngest daughter in middle school. She was the "cute tiny little girl"! :) She's still on the tiny side, and still absolutely adorable! Those two are going on the cruise with us.
Dave...figured the webcam was a joke, but had to ask!
:smooth:
I promise there will be pictures!! Shirley's son even does photography! I am seeing a new business here for her in wedding planning, don't you all think?? ;)
