Hi, all. I am mikmin6554's wife. We are SSR owners. He's been trying to get me to register on this forum for awhile, but of course it took a major life change to actually do it.

We are moving to an apartment in Orlando (the Orlo Vista area) in one (yes, I said one) week. I would be lying if I didn't say that this was mostly mikmin6554's idea. It's something he's always wanted to do.

However, I am getting a bit panicky about this huge move, :scared1: and I need a bit of encouragement to convince me this is a great idea and everything will be a blast. I will be happy to hear any and all of your opinions on this subject. :cheer2:

It is about 10 degrees today here in Syracuse, NY. The thought of staying in sunny and warm Orlando sounds GREAT to me right now!

Enjoy your new home and the many trips you will be able to take to the World!

I think I'm going to like it here on the DISboards! :yay:

Best of luck to you!

By the way, were in PA are you? We have lived in Huntingdon Valley in the past and I worked at Abington Memorial.

Thanks for the good wishes!

We live in Center City Philly-- not far at all from Huntingdon Valley. I have relatives who used to live there, and I've driven past Abington Memorial many times.

They always say when people look back on their lives they always regret the things that they didn't do, rather than the things they did.

I've lived all over the world, it's good to get out there and see it! :thumbsup2

And here's my tip for packing-if you haven't touched it in a year, throw it out or donate it to goodwill.

It's liberating.

Hi, soon to be former neighbor:rotfl2: I live in SE PA as well. I only wish I could move to Florida....I have been trying to figure out a way for years (and convince my wife). Looks like I am going to have to wait until the boys are out of school! Enjoy yourself and remember days like today....8 inches of snow, 30 mph winds, 20 degrees!!:scared1:

I kept thinking to myself.... what are we doing here? as DH and I braved howling winds to shovel snow today. I know it has been cool in FL but nothing like this! Best wishes, we hope to be doing the same soon. :thumbsup2

Good luck on your move. We always talk about moving there someday. I hope soon. We are also from Pa. near Scranton. We did not get all the snow today which is quite unusual but it is cold, 2 degrees. One daughter in college for another year and our son may move back home for a year or two, so it could still be a few years, but good luck to you.

Currently live in Orlando :)
it is worth it. Take your time getting to know the place, there is so much to do here, and it can be overwhelming. Only thing I miss about being up north is theater and ease of transportation.
Otherwise..welcome...and be ready to live the Mickey party..not just be a part of it

Congratulations on your move. It's a tough and big decision for sure. Good luck with it and please keep us posted. I hope it's everything you guys want it to be and more. I am always curious to know a year or so later how it all worked out and if it is all you thought it would be.

Welcome to the Disboard and hope you have a smooth transition.

I'm starting to really look forward to it now. Do you know anything about the Orlo Vista area of Orlando, around the 4400 block of S. Kirkman Road?

Well, here's a google photo of it:

If you click and drag the little orange man icon onto Kirkman, you can walk along it and see it at street level!

My DH was transferred to the Orlando area in 1999. We LOVE it here. I can't imagine moving north again. The weather is terrific and you can participate in outdoor activities year round. Of course its hot in the summer, but its hot in PA too. The summer is just longer here.

We enjoy everything about WDW and use the facilities often. We use our DVC membership for short 2 night getaways and for week long vacations. We also will pop down to Downtown Disney for dinner and walk to see the sights. We play golf and enjoy the courses at Disney. We have Florida Resident Annual Passes and sometimes stop into a park just to catch one ride and have dinner. Its also fun to pop by for the fireworks. At Christmas time we enjoy visiting all of the hotels and DVC properties to enjoy the decorations. We always visit the Food & Wine Festival and the Garden Festival each year.

There are lots of things to do in Central Florida. We never lack for something to see or do. We have found that since most people are from other places they are anxious to meet new people and make friends. We have met alot of terrific people since moving to Florida.

I know that moving is scary... but you could be moving to alot worse places than here!

Good Luck!

Glad to hear you're getting settled so quickly. Here in northern Maryland it's damp and foggy and the grass is still an awful shade of brown. Enjoy the sun, sand and palm trees for me! Please keep us posted on your adventures in Florida! Good luck!! :goodvibes

We made the move from the north east in September of 2002. My DH and I were both at WTC on 9/11 and living through that next year was awful. Making the move to our favorite place on earth was an easy decision. However, I do remember the actual moving day. I was in panic mode too. It's a big change. However, I can tell you that Central Florida is chuck full of transplants like us. We have met and become friends with some truly great people. Plus, Disney is going to be your backyard now! It really helps whenever you get homesick --just go to MK and people watch.

Best of luck to you, and welcome to sunny Florida! :flower3:

I moved from Philly to Seminole County in '91. I've never regretted it. It takes some time to learn how to cope with the heat during the summer and learning how to function during the hurricanes. I couldn't imagine ever living anywhere else or ever going back up North. (even not after we didn't have power for 2 weeks with Charley and Frances :scared1: )
Feel free to PM anytime. I head out to one of the parks with my family about once a week. We also own at SSR and living so close does have it perks. You can book stays at the villas with just a day's notice - whenever you get the urge. It will be ok. :goodvibes
