Is the pizza from Spoodles really as bad as people say??? Where do you get your pizza from when you stay at BWV? Looking for take out or delivery to the room?

thanks

hi: i think it is a matter of personal preference and what you are used to having as "pizza". everyone i spoke to that was from the ny,nj, pa area was not very fond of spoodle's pizza. different areas of the country make pizza differently, so you may want to give it a try to see what you think.

I was born and raised in Brooklyn, and I liked spoodles pizza. It's definately not brooklyn pizza but it is on par with more gourmet type pizzas. The main difference is in the crust, it's much thinner and more crispy than NY pizza. It sure beats chains like dominoes and pizza hut.

Just an opinion from up here in MA, I thought it was just fine! We picked it up a couple of times lounging by the pool.....

Beats cooking anyday!!!!!

Sorry,:( We had it last year and it was aweful!!! The greasiest pizza I ever had. Took several napkins to soak it up. Yuck!!!
We have ordered from Pizza Hut out by Crossroads and had the best pizza! Also there is a place called Giordano's on Palm Parkway(same road as Pizza Hut but down on the right) and that is a Chicago pub type of place. AWESOME!!!! They both will deliver to your room. We ordered 2 large and had leftovers for days. Also, we had pizza from Roaring forks one night (their mini one person ones) and those were also horrible. I guess we just do not like Disney pizza. We are not that fussy with quality and there are other Disney food must haves every trip but pizza is just not one of them.

How can we get telephone numbers of places that deliver food to the room (other than room service) - places like the Pizza Hut, etc...?

We just had Spoodles take out Pizza a week ago and it was horrible. The crust was the thickness of a Boboli pizza shell that you buy at the grocery store for a make your own pizza, the sauce had very little flavor and the cheese was ok at best. It was on par with eating a bad frozen pizza. We threw away 3/4 of it. I have had Spoodles take out pizza before and it was not the greatest but it has gotten much worse, IMHO.

Spoodles pizza is my DD's favorite meal when we stay at the Boardwalk!

Last year, I ordered a whole pie from the take out window and it was this thick crust, alot of cheese, mess of a pizza. Now I read from Lisa F that the crust is thinner than most pies. I would like a nice thin crust.

Lisa, are ordering pizza from the outside window or is that from the inside of Spoodles?
If it's from the inside, can we order to take back to the BWV rooms?

Lisa F

We ordered it from the outside window, but I am trying to remember the last time we ordered it. It had to be at least a year ago, if not two, and what people are saying does not even closely resemble the pizza that we got from spoodles when we last bought some. I wonder if it changes based on who is making it.

I asked last week if we could get a thin crust pizza and was told they do not make it that way. I guess they must have changed, it was a really bad pizza.

We just got back from OKW and they gave us a small list of delivery places. There were 2 or 3 pizza places on it. I didn't know any of them, but maybe it is better than Spoodles.

You can either look them up in your room telephone book or search the internet yellow pages before you go. I'm sure there are more than Pizza hut and Girordano's but these 2 were great and certainly priced right. Pizza Hut even took a coupon from back home as I gave them the info when I placed the order and they said fine and the total was right when the driver arrived. We had a car last trip so we drove there but the pizza was still as good. The address was Palm Parkway in Lake Buena Vista just off hotel plaza Blvd, which is across the main ent. of DTD and just a ways from Crossroads shopping plaza. Giordano's is also on the same road.

Do they deliver to your room or do you have to meet them in the lobby? I thought I read they were not permitted to come to the rooms, but I could be wrong.

Last time we had it delivered we were at OKW and yes, they brought it right to our door. Talk about just like being at home!:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Oh yeah, I just remembered seeing a delivery car a few weeks ago at WLV

In the interest of "science", I will try to perform the following experiment next week when we are at BWV. We usually order pizza via room service at least one night when we haven't made a PS for dining (room service is actually Spoodles pizza, I believe) and it has been okay but certainly not of the quality we get from a variety of places here in the Chicago suburbs. My DW is actually partial to Pizza Hut delivery, but I personally think Giordano's is a little better. In any case, when we do our in-room pizza night, I will do an order from one of these two places and see if they deliver all the way to our room or just bring it to the lobby and have us meet the delivery person there. I assume you can have them call you on the house phone when they arrive with your pizza if they do not bring it all the way to the room.

I would not use the OKW experience as a definitive indication of how things might work at BWV or WLV in regard to delivery right to the door of the room, since OKW has more of a "townhouse/condo" arrangement in separate, free standing buildings while BWV and WLV are arranged like hotels.
I'll report my findings upon our return.

My personal opinion on Spoodles pizza......not very good. Not inedible. If I were really hungry I could eat it and maybe even enjoy it. But it's just not what I expect pizza ordered out to be. Its much more like homemade pizza with the premade shell and supermarket sauce. Not vile or disgusting, imo, but not what I want when I want real pizza.

I've determined that what the Boardwalk needs to make it a real boardwalk is Grotto Pizza! Just like at the boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach DE....really good pizza. Ah, can't wait until 4th of July when I get to have some.....

Spoodles can't compare....I think any real pizzeria pizza would be better (btw...I like Pizza Hut, but its not "real" pizza...)

I've been collecting info on food delivery places for OKW; most if not all will also deliver to BWV:

OKW/BWV Delivery food:

Pizza - Giordano's Apopka-Vineland Rd delivered to OKW. It was a Chicago "stuffed" pizza with lots of cheese and fillings. It was no problem at all having it delivered.

Domino's Pizza right near Crossroads
Distance: 1.6 miles
8542 Palm Parkway
Orlando, FL 32836
Phone: 407-239-1221

Pizza Hut in Lake Buena Vista, Apoka-Vineland road which is next to Crossroads

Papa John's delivers to OKW.

There is also a Chinese place nearby that delivers Chinese food, but everyone I"ve ever talked to about it says the food is TERRIBLE, so I don't include it on my list.

I do hope at some point to go online and look up exact addresses/phone numbers for all of these, but I haven't had a chance yet.

If anyone else has other places to eat, please let me know; I'll add to my list. Whenever I see this question asked on the boards, I always post this list.

Hope this helps!

Hmm..I wonder if someone could put up your delivery info on a web page somewhere? Very useful. And I sure hope that PapaJohns will deliver to BWV.

Geez you guys...I'm really craving pizza now!

Kick it up a notch!

Isn't there an Uno's Chicago Bar and Grill right outside the gates by Downtown Disney? I don't know if they deliver, but they have great deep dish.

I read that OKW no longer has the pizza, etc delivery available through the PO resort so maybe that is why they are giving out off site delivery places phone numbers. We just got back from BWV on Mon and we definitely were not given any phone numbers of off site pizza etc delivery places.

try this http://www.orlandoinfo.com/dining/index.cfm

or this http://www.floridakiss.com/f_restaurants.html

It's not exactly what we are talking about as you have to search a lot for places that deliver but it has lots of dining info.

There is a pizza place on 192West. It may be called New York Style pizza. It is located across the street from the Ramada Gateway. The pizza is excellent. We usually make a stop there at least once during our trip........

The only problem is construction in the area makes it a little difficult to drive through (for me anyways, doesn't bother DH, he is a typical Boston Driver!! LOL)

We went to the Pizza Hut Internet web site and printed off a page of coupons. We used these last week at OKW and they delivered right to our door.

Very handy and much better than what we had ordered from PO last year.

My DH thought I was crazy going to the Pizza Hut website while planning for our July trip, glad I'm not the only one! Of course the printable coupons expire on July 8, and I need them for July 9. Guess I'll have to check back!

We were at BWV last week with the extended family ( 9 people). Decided to have a meal in the room and needed extra food. One of our party ran down to the little General Store on the Boardwalk and picked up a Digiorno frozen pizza. I believe it was pepperoni, with a stuffed crust. Only $5!! That's cheaper than when I buy those in the grocery at home. IMHO, they are better than Pizza Hut.

Can you tell me what phone number you are calling for Pizza Hut delivery? I have called twice, a few months ago and just a few minutes ago -- I have been told both times that PH cannot del to Disney due to some contract they have, with the exception of Coronado Springs and AKL. I must be calling the wrong store. The PH I called today was on W Irlo Branson Memoral hwy - Kissimmee. 407-239-4456. THanks for any help!!

While at BWV last week, we ordered a pizza from Giordano's. This was all in the interest of science to see what the delivery situation was at BWV :). No problem placing the order, once I discovered that you need to dial the area code along with the phone number in order to connect, even though the area code is 407, same as the resort.

Regarding the delivery, the guard called from the entry gate to notify us that our pizza would be delivered shortly at the front entrance. I walked down and met the delivery person, paid the bill and walked back to the room with our food. Apparently they do not let these delivery people through at the guard gate without confirmation from the guest, and the delivery person is not supposed to wander the halls looking for your room.

The pizza itself was excellent, very similar to what Giordano's serves at home and much better than the room service pizza (and a little better than Pizza Hut, IMHO, although Pam disagrees on this point whether at home or away).

Sorry to say that I could never eat that pizza again. I know many people like it, but I don't know if I can even call it pizza. It reminds me of a pita with tomato soup and some really bad cheese on top. There are very few spices, if any, on this pizza. I guess if you are not a fan of spice and like your food a bit on the bland side, you may enjoy it.

This opinion is coming from a Buffalo native, where we specialize in pizza and wings.

Finally got around to looking up addresses and phone numbers for the places on my list - if anyone comes up with ANY other places that will deliver food, please email me privately (jillandtim@charter.net). I'll add them to my list.

I monitor this board and the DVCTalk group on Yahoo Groups; I'll post this list on request.

I'm not sure if I have the bandwidth to post these on my website, but I'll look into it and post the link if I get them up.

Of course, all tastes are subjective, but we liked the pizza here as well. It was probably the best meal 'out' that we had on our 15 day Birmingham/Tampa/Vero/Orlando trip last December. It was duly noted by wifey-poo that it would be worth driving to this restaurant for pick-up if they don't deliver.

The pre-9/11 skyline posters were kind of eerie though. :(

As an Italian/American I can tell you the pizza at Spoodles is just fine. I love pizza and just had it in May from there and it was delicious as ever.
And I know my pizza. There are at least 7 pizza joints in the town where I grew up and my family is still there.
I grew up in the town now known as Italy of the USA. According to the 2000 Census Hammonton, NJ has the highest concentration of Italians. 1000 more than Johnston, RI; East Haven, Conn; Rossetta, Pa and Frankfort, NY

Wow. I think I have to try Spoodles pizza now just to see how good/bad it really is. I've seen food reviews range from bad to okay or okay to great but never seen terrible, okay and great.

Asking people their opinion on a particular food item is on par with asking people what their favorite color is! It is usually best in these cases to say that "I didn't care for it" instead of "It was horrible". As they say, "One man's garbage is another man's treasure". Oh yeah, by the way, I think the pizza is great at Spoodles! ;)
