Please tell me I am not losing my mind. I am in full-on, obsessive Disney mode right now with 11 days until departure. So I was going over the pack to check and pack to carry on the plane list with my husband and he questioned an item I was taking on the plane in carry on.
Trading Pins? My family loves to trade pins so I have 50 of them that I plan to carry on in my backpack. I swear I've done this before but my husband is questioning me on if I can do this. Don't think I could do much damage with trading pins but would hate to get to security and be told nope. What do you think?
TIA!

You can do this! Rest easy. I just came through an airport with pins. Several times actually. Never a problem. Have a great trip. :thumbsup2

Ahhh...the Podcast Security Guard would know the answer to this one! LOL!
I thought I had done this in the past. I think my husband was afraid I was not remembering correctly and all their precious pins would be gone!

TIA!Hi Suzette, yup, Paul beat me to it. I've carried 50 or so pins through for traders lots of times too. No problem there. You know what they do look at though? My pennies and quarters for penny presses. I load them up in the M&M tubes, and they always get stopped in the x-ray.

I can't find M&M tubes ANYWHERE. Any suggestions on where to get them. I think they have banned them from Texas.
I have about 70 pre-1982 pennies but I am thinking of just getting quarters at Disney. What are your thoughts on this one? Figure I can run some $1's through the change machine in the laundry room at the resort. That was my husband's idea. I guess he thinks the quarters will weigh too much?

I got mine a couple years ago for Halloween, and I just always save them in a shoebox in my closet between trips. I haven't looked for them in a long while.

Check out the Easter candy aisle. I saw some Easter themed M&M tubes yesterday at Walgreen's.
As for the quarters, I needed some last trip and was able to buy a roll from the front desk at our resort.

Me too, or rather they pulled the boys I was traveling with for security. I always make a bag of "goodies" for them when we go and this year I did the tube of quarters and pennies and when they put their bags through security they couldn't tell what they were. I had to explain to security and then we were on our way. :lmao:

I know I have traveled this way for the past 3 years but suddenly he is concerned. He and DD are the big traders and I'm sure he just wants to make sure they have their pins on the other side.
What he told me today is "Before we check in and check our bags could we at least ask at the security check area. Then if they tell us it's going to be a problem we can stuff them in the check luggage." Yes dear, whatever you want. At D/FW the security check points are right next to the American Airlines counter anyway.
Need to drop off a medication script at Walgreen's will look when I am in town later today.

It looks like you are safe. While the TSA website doesn't specifically mention "pins", it does allow scissors (shorter than 4 inches) in your carry-on luggage. You can certainly do my damage and terrorizing with scissors than you can with pins.
The list of prohibited items can be found at:
http://www.tsa.dhs.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
It's a good idea to keep a copy of this list when traveling in case you are questioned about an item.

Thanks for posting the list. I feel like I have posted 10,000 questions over the past few days and they are all because DH is asking about stuff we have never encountered! Or he is making me second guess myself. I think he is usually pretty busy at work leading right up to the time we leave. This year he must have a little too much time on his hands and is starting to fret about all the little details that I usually concentrate on.

100% agree. They are too precious to lose or have damaged. Not for $$ worth, but for memory value... at least for us.

Ive carried pins in my carry on before and it wasnt a problem. If your worried just ask when you check in or pack them in your main luggage.
