View Full Version : Where are all the 10/12 Western Magic cruisers??
BeanoC

The thread(s) for those of us on the 7-day Western Magic on 10/12/02 seem to have disappeared!
I see the 10/5 and 10/19 threads going strong, so I decided I would try to 'revive' the 10/12 group!
Only about 135 days to go... We'd better get things planned!
DW and I hope to host an informal wine tasting/DIS gathering
on one night of the cruise. We need lots of feedback from everyone interested so we can all pick a night and time for it.
Denine, I hope I can count on you guys to be there! I wish we were on back-to-back cruises also, but we decided to go for the suite this time and do the back-to-back next summer when the kids are out of school.
Everyone else, please introduce yourself to 'Beano'... We had so much fun meeting people here on the boards last year and then getting together on the cruise. It was great - so let's do it again!
Don't be shy!!!!

Hi Beano!
we've been wondering where the thread has gone too, but have been kept happy these last 2 weeks reading all the great things about the Western cruise! You're right only 135 days left to make such important desisions such as which morning to to the Brunch thing? Can DH beat his record for buying T shirts with so many great opportunities on offer ( I survived stingray city? )
lets start planning:)

Hi 3cheers!
I think we'll do Palo's brunch on Sunday again this year. I actually like the brunch better than Palo's dinner, I think!
The next decision is when to get together for a wine drinking, um, I mean wine tasting! We really enjoyed it last year so we are happy to host it this year, if folks are interested.
Nice to have you 'on board', 3cheers! :)

Hey there!
My wife and I are all set for our 10/12 western cruise!
This will be our third DCL venture, it ought to be quite fun :)

Hey Beanoc:
Looks like we sail again on the same date! I was your neighbor on the Oct cruise last year and we also attended the wine tasting with the othe dis'rs. You can count us in again for another wine tasting. I am not sure which day will work best, however, I think it might be better to have it earlier in the cruise rather than at the end.

We also will be on the 10/12 Western. :) This will be our third Disney cruise as well. Just DH and me, a week of cruising and a week at WDW for the Food and Wine Festival (tried to talk DH into back to back cruises, but no luck). Can't wait.

Hey, awesome... Looks like maybe I have this thread runnin' again!
Doug and Christy, we remember you well. We look forward to seeing you again - same cabin, different hosts! :) Curious though - why do you feel like we should have the gathering earlier? I have no argument, just wondering what your thinking is. Anything is good with me!
Canigo - Welcome :)
We have 2 kids also, DS 12, DD 10. We look forward to meeting you!!
zellda - We were at the Food and Wine Festival 2 years ago, and we envy you! What a great thing to experience at Epcot. Good stuff...We look forward to welcoming you also to our DIS gathering aboard the Magic.
Who else?? :) :)

Beano,
It's great to hear from you! Wine tasting was fun last year and we're looking forward to doing it again.
By the way we'd like to take you guys out for drinks some evening as a thank-you for the excellent video you put together last year!

Hi Beano!
I thought the Oct. 12 thread died as well and was wondering if I would be the only one aboard. This will be our second cruise along with my DH, DS12, and DD9. We have been so looking forward to it. I am especially looking forward to cruising the Western Itinerary. A brunch and wine tasting sounds great.:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Mmmm I think you are right, Sunday looks like the best option for Brunch, because the buffets on both sea days look too good to miss. The only thing that concerns me is that the times listed are something like 10.30 to 11.30....do you think this is the time you have to book for, or do they kick you out at 11.30?!!!:(
It would be great if we could somehow organise a combination DIS meet with Brunch? how does everyone else feel?
and yes, wine tasting would be great

Paulcrsb - Great to hear from you. I didn't realize that you guys were on this cruise too! That makes 4 couples that I know of from last year! Cool.
Just you and Pam, or your kids again too? (We'll be happy to take you up on that drink ,by the way !) ;)
MO64RN: Our DS is 12, DD is 10 so it would be fun to get them together also. Maybe we can figure out if they have any common interests. Our kids love the pool and Mickey slide, but weren't too thrilled with the labs. They would rather swim, etc. DS is trying to talk me into bringing his Playstation 2 so he can play video games in the room!
It sounds like you guys are on the right track as far as organizing a brunch/wine tasting. Maybe each couple can order some appetizers from room service and we can have that and a few bottles of 'grape juice' in our stateroom! Last year we just had cheese and crackers, maybe we can spice things up a bit this time.
Keep the ideas coming!!!

Getting back to you about the suggestion for wine tasting time, I am also in favor of a brunch wine tasting on Sunday. Considering the size of the deck that comes with your cat. 3 room it will be a great way to spend an afternoon and frat with Dis'rs early in the cruise. I think the wine tasting at night was great but folks were recouping from a big meal which made it tough to indulge in cheese and etc. Sounds like we will be leaning more toward refreshing cold deck wines such as pino grigio, chardonay, or sauvignon blanc?????
can' wait!

sorry I think I'm getting mixed up already!
I was thinking of Palo's Brunch on Sunday before Key West....and a seperate wine tasting thing ( 2 DIS meets for the price of 1:) )
I for one couldn't drink wine then hike round all Key West has to offer!
Is anyone else staying at the Raddisson on the Friday night?
Beano..... We went out yesterday to get DS a PS2, He's been after one for months, we might just about be able to prise him away from it for long enough to holiday in October!:D

3cheers - We are staying at the Radisson friday night. I hope we can say hello! You can identify us by all the lime-green ribbon on our bags. I trust everyone on this thread knows about the ribbon???
We have planned all along to do brunch at Palo's on Sunday. If it becomes a DIS group brunch, that's great too!
OKWMeister - Sounds like you're the wine expert... I don't know a chardonnay from a chianti!! But I do like the idea of possibly an afternoon
gathering on our verandah. Truthfully, I am just there for the socializing with my DIS friends. You are more likely to see me with a mug of beer rather than a glass of wine!
If we do it in the afternoon, we should do it on thursday, since most of us will be busy with excursions the other days.
Just over 4 months to go!!

Beano,
Our kids our about the same age. That is great. My DS loves video games. I am sure your DS and my DS will get along great. He liked the lab but mostly late at night during the free play hours using the computer etc. He was there till midnight most of the time. He is a night owl. Stays up later than me most nights. He also loves sports, especially baseball.
My DD loves crafts and drawing. She likes video games and playing on the computer but not as much as my DS. Both my children love swimming and the Mickey slide. They also liked going to the movies while on the cruise.
I don't know about the lime- green ribbon. Can you fill me in? I found this board very shortly before our first Disney Cruise.
How is it possible to organize a Palo Brunch with the DIS'ers? This sounds like a great idea but how do we guarantee we will all get a ressie at the same time?
I am looking forward to meeting all the DIS'ers. This is so cool.
P.S. I am not much of a wine drinker either but am always willing to try hoping to find one I will like. It's a social thing.:bounce: :bounce: :sunny:

MO64RN -
Sounds like our boys could have some fun together. My son hasn't latched on to sports yet much, even though his dad is a fanatic! He still prefers the video games. Both our kids also loved going to the movies on board. I think they saw 4 movies last year. Anyway, we look forward to meeting you all.
As for the lime green ribbon - it's sort of a 'tradition' started here on the DIS boards - I have no idea by whom. Here's what we all do:
Go to a craft supply store or the like, and purchase some inexpensive lime-green ribbon - the kind you might wrap around gifts, etc.
Put a few strands on each of your bags, camera cases, strollers if you have them - everything! Then, fellow DIS'ers can recognize you by it. (I also find it VERY helpful in identifying our bags as they come around the carousel at the airport !)
Last year, as we boarded the bus at the terminal, a lady glanced over at my camera bag (I ALWAYS have a camera with me - that's another story!!) She says to me, "Oh, do you post on the DIS boards??" I said yes, I'm 'Beano'.
"BEANO!!?" :)
Turns out it was somebody we had been chatting with here for many months prior to the cruise. Anyway, it's a great way to identify yourself to other DIS'ers and also to help you find your bags at the airport! Some of us have also taken to wearing lime-green t-shirts so we can't possibily be missed.
The ultimate fashion statement in new-age obnoxious!
I also produced a video of our cruise last year, with all the DIS folks in it. Ask 'em about it, and if you're interested I could send you a copy - just to help you get in the cruising mood. 'Denine' or 'paulcsrb' can tell you if it was any good.
Talk to you soon!

Thanks Beano,
I will geet my green ribbons before the cruise. What type of video did you produce? Sounds neat. What kind of sports does your DH like? My DH is also a sports fanatic. In fact he is freaking out that he may miss some baseball playoff games while on the cruise. Problem solved with the internet cafe. I told him to get the unlimited usage so he can keep tabs on the games and scores. I have been so looking forward to this cruise. We didn't cruise last year and when I heard about the Western Itinerary I booked immediately. It also works out perfect that my kids are off school that week so I don't have to pull them out. Our first cruise I did but as they get older it gets harder to do so. Keep me psted of the brunch and wine tasting. Looking forward to meeting you and the family.
This is an odd question but what does Beano stand for? Just curious.
BeanoC
06-02-2002, 07:13 PM
MO64RN -
Just to clear any confusion - You asked about my 'DH' ? I AM the DH!!
(Beano is male... ) ;)
And as for sports - My biggest concern last year was how to follow the NFL (football) while onboard. I went to the ESPN lounge, drank beer, watched football, and thought HARD - How could life possibly be better??? ;)
I also plan to have full usage of the internet this year so I can communicate with my employees (thus justifying a write-off!) and to keep posted on other sports I may miss at ESPN.
It's true I missed most of the World Series last year, but as Dodger fan - it didn't matter! I do love New York, especially after 9/11, but God help me - I hate those Yankees! (Spoken like a true Dodger fan).
And to answer your question about 'Beano'...
My name is Ben. Casual friends call me Ben. Business associates call me Ben.
Family and dear friends know me as Beano! It's a moniker my grandfather tacked on me many years ago, and it stuck. If you call me Beano, we must be friends. If we're on a Disney cruise together and drinking wine in my suite... we're friends!!
(And if you're familiar with the gas remedy by the same name - just a coincidence I assure you!) ;)

Keeping the tread alive!!
My DD will be 14 next year in October but is not too much into the teen lounge on deck 9. She is quite active and loves to engage in ping pong, basketball , swim, etc. She also LOVES to draw (very artistic). She is also movie crazy on the cruise and at home plays Soccer and Volleyball.
I'm wondering if others may have a DD that has similar interest (thankfuilly she is not at all boy crazy so she is quite content with the engaging in the things listed above.
DS (9) is kind of the same and is wildly crazy about baseball (Long live the Twins!). Both kids would love to hook up with other kids on the cruise (last year DD got into a little email and instant messaging with another DIS'rs DD
Beenoc: HOw can I score one of those videos from last cruise??? I also will be happy to set you up with a couple of cocktails in exchange for a copy.

OMG! Beano,
I am so sorry. You are right. I didn't realize you were the DH. Your last post threw me off when you referred to yourself in the third person. When referring to your DS you said "His Dad is a fanatic." Oh well, no offense taken I hope. I just hope now that you get along with my DH who is also a sports fanatic. I hate to tell you though that he is a die hard NY Yankee fan. We are originally from NY and my DH was born and bread in the Bronx. I on the other hand am from Long Island. We moved to FL eight years ago. I would love to see the video. That is if you forgive me?
Hi Denine,
How is the RN business treating you. I am in the process of looking for a new job. I hope I find one soon. There are tons out there but need one well suited.
Paulcrbs
Thank you for answering the question about the video. I can't wait to meet you all. I am so excited.

06-03-2002, 02:46 PM
MO64RN - You're forgiven! :) I know I refer to myself in the third person sometimes so your confusion is understandable - besides I think the majority of those posting here are women.
However, when we meet, maybe we should keep our sports loyalties to ourselves!! ;) Yankee and Dodger fans aren't always a good mix! If it helps, I certainly don't hate the Yankees like I do the S.F. Giants!!!! If they played each other in the World Series, I'd be the biggest Yankee fan in the world! I don't so much hate the Yanks as I do George Steinbrenner. He always bugged me. But enough of that! I'll be concentrating on football during the cruise anyway.
If you're really interested in seeing the video I made I can send it to you. Just email me your address. It may not be as much fun to watch as it is to those of us who are in it, but it's still 30 minutes of the Disney Magic! You'll get to be in this year's version though. Hope you're not camera shy!
Denine and paulcsrb - Thanks for the positive reviews! I'm really glad everyone enjoyed it that much. I love making them. Too bad happylady, goose and flyingcircus aren't on this cruise too, it would be a full-blown reunion!
Speaking of flyingcircus, have any of you heard anything from her at all?? I have not been able to get in touch with her since the cruise. She disappeared from the boards and I never got to send her a video. I hope all is ok with her.
By the way - Nothing has really been said yet, but I am assuming we will include our kids in this get together? I think they would enjoy meeting new friends as much as we do! I hope we can get them together before thursday though - maybe they can have some fun together all week long in the pool, lab, etc.
What 'cha think?

yes, it would be great to say hello at the Raddisson before we cruise. Yes, we did know about the lime green thing....if we forget the ribbons I can always wear my snorkle and flippers, they're lime green too!:D
Is anyone else 'doing Disney' before or after our cruise? We are 'going home' to the Boardwalk for a week before and a week after cruising. This will be the very first time we have stayed at our home resort since joining DVC 2 years ago and it will be really nice to think that we still have something to look forward to once the cruise is over. As one of the most expensive bits of our holiday is the Transatlantc flight, we like to make it worthwhile once we get over to your side of the pond!

Webmaster Cathy .... I am thinking about ordering something from Shirley at The perfect gift, I'm not sure what...except I want it to contain a helium "Happy Birthday" balloon. I can just imagine DS' face when we go into the stateroom for the first time!
Also, we will be in Grand Cayman on his birthday, and he is really keen to swim with the stingrays, we have already booked with Captain Marvins to do this. I don't think he realises just how lucky he is, I think when I was 13 I was happy to have a few friends round to the house to have a "disco" in my bedroom:D

Denine - I don't think wdwgoose will be on this cruise. I think they said budget constraints prevented it. I do believe they were on the 5/12 western cruise last month though.
3cheers - We will be at CBR/WDW for a week before the cruise.
The kids are big time pin traders so will will spend lots of time at Epcot; we also plan to spend one day at TL. We are going to Kennedy Space Center on Friday, then staying at the Radisson that night. I wish we could spend another week there after the cruise, but I gotta get back to work to pay for all of it!!
And as OKWMiester mentioned, we did have a sail-away DIS get together with bubbles last year, which I definitely think we should do again. It's a great way to start off the cruise and to introduce ourselves.

How exciting that you have 3 more cruises planned! I had originally planned back-to-back this year, but decided to do a week at WDW and then the cruise, with the cat 3 suite. If they still offer great deals when you re-book while onboard, I think I will book back-to-back for next year. Only problem with that is, I can't afford the suite for 2 weeks! It will be hard going from the suite back down to a cat. 5 stateroom. Oh well!
We leave for WDW in exactly 4 months! Still seems like a long time but I know from experience that it will be here in no time.
For some reason, I feel more excited this year than ever before!

Hi Kamgen....and congratulations on winning your cruise. What did you have to do?
We haven't planned to do any of the Disney excursions. In Key West we will probably do the trolley tour on our own ( I've read somewhere that if you do it yourself you can get off and on where you like, but if you do the ships own tour, you have to stay on the train!, don't know if thats true or not! )
In GC we have booked to do an half day snorkel and stingray city excursion with Captain Marvins and at Cozamel we plan to get to Chankanaab by taxi, which looks a lot cheaper than going with Disney.
We booked this cruise last November, and it seemed so far away then, but like Beano said, the next 4 months will just wizz by!:)

Okwmiester -
ESPN was a little limited, but they at least had the "ticker" which updates the scores repeatedly, which is what I needed anyway.
But with something as big as the World Series going on, I can't imagine that they won't be showing it. The one thing that did bother me about ESPN though? The smoke!
They allow smoking in there and it really bothered me. Cigarette smoke everywhere. Yuck. But otherwise it was nice to relax, catch the scores and enjoy a beer.
As for excursions, anything we plan we will do on our own because of cost and time flexibility. Probably Capt. Marvin's for snorkeling in Cayman; not sure about Cozumel but I expect DW to take me shopping! Oh boy... ;)

I am sure we will book another Disney cruise on board for next year if they are still doing that promotion.

I remember last year hearing one of the commentaters say that Kurt Shillings entire family was on the Disney Cruise Without him since he booked the cruise prior to knowing the the baseball season would be extended a week (from 911). It just so happened that that extension put the Worl Seriens game seven the same time his entire family was at Castaway Cay without him!!!

Denine - We are hoping to take advantage of on-board booking discounts too so we can do back-to-back next year. We need to go in July though. Has anyone here cruised in July? I am wondering what to expect, weatherwise. Hotter than Oct. I am sure, but what about the seas? We can't take the kids out of school that long so we need to do it over vacation.
I can't imagine 2 weeks on the Magic! Sounds like heaven, eh Denine? ;)

I read somewhere that another group had Palo Brunch together and it was all set up for them. It would be nice to do that I think. Does anyone know how we can organize this? I would think that DCL could accomodate a group ahead of time instead of all of us rushing to the PALO ressie table! :) LOL!
Also, the sail away party sounds awesome. Especially since it will give the kids & teens a chance to meet some new friends early in the cruise! :)
Beano: since we were not there last year, can you explain how your "wine tasting" was? Did everyone bring a bottle, did you supply it, etc?
Most people do not know this, but we have fabulous wine made here in Northern Michigan. We would love to bring some along.
Thanks and cannot wait to meet everyone!

Kamy - Our wine tasting was a very informal gathering in suite #8102. Several people brought wine (I'd say we had 8 or 9 bottles), while others brought cheese and cracker platters, chocolate dipped strawberries, etc.
It would be wonderful if you could bring a bottle or 2 from Michigan! Some people brought wine on board with them last year, others purchased their wine in port. I'd like to bring some from home as well, I am just hesitant to lug it all the way across the country in my suitcase...
It will be a very laid-back social gathering for DIS'ers to chat and have fun - the wine isn't all that important! :)
We are looking forward to it !!!

Kamy,
I know what you mean about being excited. I can't get this cruise out of my mind. You must be especially excited since yours will be FREE? How awesome for you and your family. I am just curious, What category room do you get for free?
I also agree about the Palo brunch that DCL should help us all with the ressie. I wonder how many we will be all together?
Beano,
I am looking forward to seeing the tape. Do you know how we book the Palo brunch or how many we will be all together? I will probably bring food to the wine tasting being I know nothing about wine.
All Oct 12th cruisers,
Only a little more than 4 months to go. Lets keep this thread alive!!!!!!!

I have doubts about DCL helping us all reserve a time together at Palos. We'll probably just have to agree on a time and all try to grab it at the ressie scramble!
Personally I prefer an earlier brunch, say around 11:00AM.
Any thoughts?
As for the number of people - it's still 4 months away, so we may pick up some new people throught this thread as time goes on. But, even with those of us frequenting this thread now, I'd say we have around 16-18? Already a pretty good size group for brunch. The more the merrier, I say! :)

Beano: I can't wait for 2 weeks on the Magic. I am sure it will be like Heaven!!! I hope you get to do it in July. We haven't sailed in the summer. We were looking into it for this summer, but the prices were too high. That is how we ended up with 2 weeks on the Magic in October.
Wasn't goose able to pre-book at Palo's since she was in the mini-suite? Maybe you could do that and we could all get put at the table/s you booked for brunch?
I think we had more than 8-9 bottles of wine. At least it seemed like it. I know we brought 2 bottles of locally made wine. We will probably bring wine from the same company again. The 10-19 group wants to have a wine tasting party too. Maybe I should bring a suitcase just for wine ;)

Well, we had a "bummer" last night.
One of the girls we were going to bring, Nicole, cannot go.
Her school will not allow her to miss a week of school. They are on 8 week terms (unlike many other high schools) and if she misses 5 consecutive days, she looses credit.
It's not right in my opinion, but it is what it is. So, she is really bummed out. Dh and I plan to plan another trip (summer or holiday time) to take her somewhere. What a stinker!!! :(
SO, we are now back to deciding on another kid!! We have two choices, one boy age 13 and one girl age 15.
SO, we will let you all know.
This really put a damper on our excitement, but on with the planning!!

I wouldn't say Sunday is a 'lock' for brunch, we just prefer that day based on past experience. But hey - who put me in charge anyway? :)
If anyone has any objections to Sunday brunch, please LMK otherwise I will continue planning in that direction. I'll be glad to ask the concierge if I can book for a large group. Do we have a head count yet? I know we may get more newcomers yet, but where do we stand now? 16 people? 18?
I think Thursday is the best choice for our DIS get together since it is our day at sea - I can't see us planning something when we're in port. I do think it should be in the early afternoon though, so as not to spoil dinner! And doing it after dinner, nobody wants any of the munchies, so... 'Dats what I think.

Wow, it's so great to get all these positive responses! By my count, we have 18 as of now, but...
As I said before, everyone's kids are welcome too! Do you guys think we should keep this an adult gathering? Either way is ok with me - maybe there isn't much for the kids to do anyway, unless they like wine, in which case we should talk! ;)
LMK if you'd rather let the kids go and do their own thing so we can visit as adults, or if you'd like to include them. This is afterall a democracy!
Also - I would like to have each party's stateroom number, if you wouldn't mind. That way I can always establish contact with anyone we miss. Please email it to me rather than posting it on this open forum. Also, if you're uncomfortable with this, I understand that too! I just don't want anyone getting left out, and even with plans being made here, I can tell you from experience that once on board, things can get pretty fast-paced and hectic sometimes. It's easy to lose track of time, which is really a good thing on vacation! But I wanted to leave a phone message for everyone on the day of our DIS gathering, if I may. I have an email link attached here.
Looking forward to meeting everyone, and to seeing some "old DIS friends" again!!

I think that just leaves flyingcircus as the lone cruiser to not receive the video - but it seems she has disappeared from the face of the earth! Sure wish I could send her one also. I haven't seen her online here since before the cruise last year...
I am already looking forward to making another video. I'll ask you all once again - is anyone camera shy? I will be filming constantly, so look out!! I am sensitive to the fact that some people may be uncomfortable with having their kids videotaped.
I don't want to seem like some goofball running around filming children, ya know? On the other hand, the kids always seem to enjoy watching these videos much more if they're in them!
I also try to take some video at times when those being filmed are unaware of it, which can appear to be a little strange! Know what I mean? Beano,
Did you tryOrbitz.com (http://orbitz.com) ? They will search for the lowest available fare on the dates you want. What airport do you fly out of? Are you flying into Orlando? I know you can get a good deal. If you don't find one now I would wait until Aug. then check again. Oct. is a low travel season in Orlando. Generally the fares are pretty good. I wouldn't pay much more than $200-250 Unless of course you want to fly first class. Hope Orbitz helps. I have had pretty good luck.
BeanoC
06-22-2002, 01:24 AM
Guys, thanks for the responses. I really appreciate all the help!
I have tried Orbitz, Travelocity, SideStep, etc. They all have basically the same fares. Biggest problem is, I need to fly out of Fresno, CA, which is a small airport so I have to go to LAX and then on to Orlando. American flies Fresno to Dallas and then to Orlando, but the price is about the same. I agree that I should probably be patient and wait until Aug. in hopes of lower fall fares.
But as far as everything else:
- The cruise is now paid for. YEAH!!
- CBR Ressies are confirmed and nearly paid.
- Got tickets to KSC for Friday.
- Friday night at Radisson is booked and paid.
- Planning to use Happy Limo or Tiffany and surprise the family with stretch limo service this year. Can't book it until I have flight numbers though!

we're almost ready!
BWV and cruise ressies booked last November with DVC points
Raddison booked for the night before the cruise ( I haven't noticed the $99 go from my account yet, I think they wait until you show? )
Flights bookd last month.....we were waiting to see if the prices came down at all, but they didn't, and then we got scared that if we waited much longer to book, then all the good flights would be gone ( a lot of the flights get to MCO really late at night, and we really wanted to fly on 777's because of the TV on the back of each seat:D ) We ended up booking United from London Heathrow to Washington, then Washington to Orlando, we hit Orlando at about 4pm which is ideal.
Discovery cove booked for the first monday of our holiday ( so we can get some practice snorkelling in before the cruise! )
Captain Marvins booked for our GC day
We still need to book the hire car and book our dog into kennels, but apart from that, thats it!......apart from saving some spending money and doing a lot more planning!!!:D Roll on October!

The 10-12 cruise was booked with points. We still have to make final payment on the 10-19 cruise. I have to check when that is due. We are driving, but haven't figured out where we are staying the night before. We looked into Disney's HH resort like we have done before, but they want too many points for 1 night in October. We will figure something out. We probably aren't doing any excursions this time around. We spent a lot of money on our April Panama Canal cruise. We are trying to keep the expenses down this trip. Hi Markmichaels! not the night before the cruise, but we are lucky enough to be going back to BWV after cruising and hope to do MNSSHP then. I can't remember which nights they are doing it this year, but I know there are more earlier dates than there were in 2000. If I remember correctly, we went home on 10/28 and the first one was that night, so we couldn't go.
Has anyone been before? does everyone dress up? ( Halloween costumes and clothes for formal nights on the cruise. Yikes, its a good job we have a good luggage allowance!)
Beano, yes, we are all really looking forward to doing DC, none of us have ever swam with dolphins before, can't wait!

We went last year in the rain to MNSSHP, and most of the kids looked like they were in costumes under their rain slickers. This year, were not going to dress up since we don't want to lug more than we need to for the boat. About half of the adults had costumes last year.
We actually skipped most of the extra stuff last year, face painting and family pictures had huge lines, but you could get right on most of the rides! Once the parade hit, fantasy land was almost completley empty and we ran from ride to ride, stopping for the fireworks, which were really cool.
See everyone on the boat!

okwmeister,
If your planning on swinging by wdw Friday, I would call ahead and get your tickets. I doubt that it would sell out, but its always nice to have tickets in hand. MNSSHP runs from 7pm to midnight and cost about $25 per adult and $20 per child. Lots of activities going on and its better than E-nights because the whole park is open.
We moved our flights up so we get in to Orlando at 1:30 pm Friday now, just enough time for a little mini-golf, downtown disney, supper and off to the party.
This would really be a great suprise for the family. If I could hold a secret, I would have suprised my kids.

Denine - I remember hearing a Jimmy Buffet CD playing in one of the stores we were shopping in on St. Maarten last year. That's a good idea, maybe I'll use some of that music this year... Guess I'll have a margarita and think about it ;)
So -
Who is going to be in WDW before the cruise, and where is everyone staying?
Who all is staying at the Radisson Fri. night?
We are at CBR for a week before the cruise and we will be at the Rad. fri. night.

I have a reservsation for the Radison Friday night and I was planning on an evening at poolside. Now I have to re think whether or not to go to wdw and participate in MNSSHP? That might make it for a very long night (I need to gage our family's energy level for all that activity and late night driving)

Doug - That's a tough one. For us, our kids are too old to get excited about MNSSHP, not to mention the expense of it, so we are better off with a relaxing evening at the Radisson. We also want to spend the entire day Friday at Kennedy Space Center, and then just unwind before the cruise starts.
Hope to see you and many other DIS'ers at the Rad Friday night!!

I wish we were going to Disney in october, but we can't do 2 weeks on the boat and Disney. We probably won't make it back for a trip until May next year. We did have our trip in January and we stopped at the Marketplace on our way to Port Everglades in April. Just a very little Disney fix. Besided we had just purchased our first camcorder and needed a case for it;) I also got a matching camera case.

Well, in spite of everybody's busy summer schedule, I thought I'd bump this up again to keep it alive.
I hope you will all think of me next Monday (July 15th). I am going in for a procedure to remove scar tissue from my heart, in order to prevent an arrhthymia that is messing with me! I am not a wimp, I just don't like the thought of a camera-aided tube going all the way up my femoral artery and into my heart so they can shoot lasers at it!! But once they remove the tissue, I'll be normal again... well, maybe not normal, but better!! ;)
Until then, I can't have any caffeine, aspirin, over-the-counter stimulants or (gasp!) alcohol!!!
OK, enough whining from Beano.
Just over 3 months guys... I have a feeling it will sneak up on us faster than we think. Hope so! I have been stocking up on stuff, such as sunscreen, water shoes, etc. We have a big box in the laundry room where we keep all the things we buy for the trip. It is affectionately known as "The Disney Box". I have purchased 16 blank video tapes so far - only 8 or 10 more and I'll have enough for the cruise! LOL
See y'all soon!!

Hey, guess what I got in the mail today???
My Castaway Club membership!!!! Only took 'em 9 months!
So, we are officially CC members and returning Disney cruisers... big deal huh?
Here's a brief tidbit I must share:
Our in-laws were here for the 4th of July. They watched our cruise video.
They said "Better you than us. We'd never do it. That stupid mouse would drive us crazy before the end of the first day. That must have been a horrible week. Disney is so awful."
Can you imagine? Now I know why we only see these people once a year or so!! LOL

Well, not that we like to plan or anything ( there are no "planners" on DIS, surely ) but we are now busy planning NEXT years holiday. We intend to buy PAP's for this October because we will be at BWV the week before and the week after the cruise, so to get our moneys worth out of the passes we will vacation next August and stay at the Boardwalk (hopefully)for a massive 17 days. If that isn't greedy enough, we also intend to spend some time on the Gulf coast!

3cheers, I can only imagine what you folks must have to pay. Although, it is over 3,000 miles for me too, so maybe it doesn't cost you more than me! Anyway, gonna have to bite the bullet I guess.

Maybe if we all put our feelers out and watch close, we can help!
Good luck!
I cannot believe it is almost here!LOL! The two girls (younger cousins) we are bringing are coming over to our house this weekend. We are going to watch the DCL video and go over the excursions and stuff! They have never seen all of this, so it is kind of exciting!

Kamy - We plan to go out of LAX... We have to get there from Fresno first, though. Fresno airport = FAT (Fresno Air Terminal).
It's just not worth it to drive to LA and leave the car there for 2 weeks. So, we need to go FAT to MCO, early 10/7/02 and leave MCO noon-ish 10/19/02. So far the best I can do is around 1,650 bucks via United... Ouch. SO, on with the search!!!
Too bad I didn't know about your cousin's visit a few days earlier, I'd have made sure you had my Disney video to watch! Or did I send you one?? I've lost track...

Hi Beano!
Good luck on your heart thing. I had a triple bypass a little over 6 years ago and I've felt great ever since. I agree with your "life is too short" philosophy. That's why we like to travel and meet new people.
Sorry I haven't been "chatting" but I've been having some major job issues lately. The television station that I work at was bought by another station here in town and is consolidated meaning about 75% of the staff is being let go. It's pretty grim around here right now.

We listened to the pitch about DVC from a guy at a booth in Downtown Disney 2 years ago. It just didn't seem to make sense for us. We're on the west coast, so we can make no more than 1 trip a year. As our kids get older, they won't want to go to WDW anymore. It seemed awfully expensive to buy in. So, we're just paying for these trips individually.
Now, if DVC included time at the Moorea Beachcomber Hotel in Tahiti, we may have to reconsider joining! :)

Beano: No apologies necessary! I am not ashamed of our inability to have children or our desire to adopt. In fact, if I talk about it, it opens it up so that more people will not feel it is a taboo subject. Also, the more people that know we are looking to adopt, the more people may know of someone that is looking to place a child for adoption!
I would rather people know we cannot have children, than people thinking that we don't want any or are selfish or whatever crazy things that go through peoples minds. I have always been open to discussing these things. You never know if the person standing right next to you is having the same problem. If you start a conversation, then you both know you are not alone! Maybe that is the nurse in me, I don't know :D
And, I am sure you will catch us doing something on the ship when we don't know you are looking :smooth:

Say DVCREG, About two years ago I remember we introduced each other on the dis chat board (which I haven't been to of late), I remember you were a great help, thanks again!
It's great that many of us are DVC members, it makes for interesting conversation. I think that makes four of us. We have been DVC members since 92'. We used points last year for the cruise, however, this year we decided to use cash (as you know the points increased dramatically for the cruise).
Beanoc: Sometime soon we may want to create a list of participants like "happylady" created last year. It was nice to have everyone's name and name and ages of the kids. The list also had cabin numbers on it (it wanted, we could include excursion choices on the list as well. I would be happy to volunteer to create this list if there is an interest among the group.

Those willing, please email me your stateroom number, kids ages, etc., excursions... anything else you care to share! I know some of you have done so already. I'll have copies of the list to hand out at the port on Saturday morning. Since I won't know some of you, you can identify me by my obnoxious lime-green shirt which says "Beano" on the front! dvcreg - Who knows - maybe I'll start a new fad! Lime greeen Beano shirts!
What a trendsetter I am. ;)
Well I had my cardio exam today - looks like an SVT. For those among us who are NOT nurses, that's a Supraventricular Tachycardia. Once they pinpoint it they can tell me whether I can have ablation. I sure hope so - it'd be nice to be rid of this! In any case, looks like I'll live. Guess that means I'll make the cruise!
Don't forget to gimme your room #'s, etc. so I can give all the DIS'ers here a list.

There are 4 of us, Kamy and Tim (me and dh) and two teens, Stacy age 13 and Nikki age 16.
Glad to hear you'll live! take care of yourself, you'll need all your hype and energy for this cruise! Not to mention the ability to eat and drink more than humanly necessary! LOL!

Guys, here's who I have on my list so far:
"Kamgen" (4 people)
"Denine" (2)
"3Cheers4DIS" (2)?
"MO64RN" (4)
"dvcreg" (2) ?
"OKWMiester" (3)? (is it 3 or 4, Doug?)
"paulcsrb" (3)
"MarkMichaels" (2) ?
"Zellda" ???
"Canigo" (4)
"Drez" ???
"WebmasterCathyCanada" (2) ?
I put a question mark where I was unsure of how many people.
The last few ppl on the list haven't posted since page 1, so I hope they 'resurface' before we cruise.
Is there anyone I missed? (I didn't miss you THIS time, Denine!!)
I'd still like to have room #'s and stuff from you guys!
Doug, I think I lost you room #, if I could have it again please.
This puts us somewhere in the neighborhood of 30 people, which would be a very nice gathering! We'll definitely need the verandah for this one! Hmmm, better order more wine too! ;)

Beano- thanks for organizing this! Could you put the ages of the kids on the final list too? That way, they could get to know who will be in the same activites as them. Just an idea! :)
Also, we will bring a few bottles of Michigan wine to share! :)
Can't wait!!! :)

3cheers - Ok, 3 people. I'll make the change. Yes, I have your room #.
And thanks for the well wishes, but I haven't had the procedure yet, I've only been diagnosed as to which procedure to have. I'll have it in a couple of weeks. It's called 'Ablation' - they snake a lazer and a camera (Wait! - did he say camera??) up my femoral artery into my heart and... BAM! If I suddenly disappear from this post... guess it didn't go too well!
Beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep! (Flatline, git it?) ;)
Kamy - I hope to put as much info on the sheet as I can, it's just a matter of what you guys give me. If I have the ages of the kids, I'll include them. I agree that it would help 'group' the kids, so to speak.
Here's the stuff I'd like to have on the list:
DIS name, followed by spouse's name and kid's names and/or ages.
Stateroom number.
Booked excursions, if any.
That's it I guess.
Hey - they're videotaping my procedure for me. Maybe I can include it in the vacation video... "Beano's pre-cruise heart surgery!"
...Or not. Ya, let's go with not. ;)

I think our room # is 6610. I doubt we'll book any Disney excursions, my daughter was too young for any of the ones we wanted. We did book Capt. Marvin for the morning in Cayman, and I think we are going to Mr. Sanchos in Cozumel.

Markmichaels.....which Captain Marvins trip are you booked on, the half day morning trip with 3 stops or the 2 hour 2 stop one?
we have booked for the 3 stop one, we would have loved to do the full day excursion including lunch at the beach, but thorght that it didn't leave much time to get back to the boat afterwards ( and buy those famous rumcakes on the way!)

Hello there.
this is Shirley and I noticed your cruise will be the western and the same weekend I will be in Key West - if there is anything I can do while all of you are down there - just let me know - also remember that I have a bunch of pamplets that could help while you are in Key West and also discount coupons - all you have to do is send me a self address envelope with about $3.00 postage and it will be sent to you - no strings attached -
Hope to see you all in Key West on the 13th of October.

Hello everyone, My DW and DD (6) and myself will be on the 10/12 cruise. We are ready I wish it was 10/12 already.
I do have a couple of questions for people that have sailed before (ie Beano-I am counting on you). 1) Will the Radison shuttle us over to the port even with the $59 room? There web site has a shuttle package starting at $109 a room. 2)how do you get the $59 room-is there a code or coupon I need? 3) The dolphin thing sounds great. Does everyone on the excurison get to get a ride on one of the dolphins or do you just swim with them? 4) Does the Magic have secret porthole rooms like the wonder? Witch rooms as I will be in Cat 10. 5) Can you get off the ship even if you do not go on a Disney sponsored excursion? 6) The Surial Ritual Chamber sounds nice to rekindle the marriage and get into the vacation mode. However I have a DD as mentioned above. When is a good time to try to book the chamber when I know my DD (6) will be having fun without us?
Beano good luck with the procedure and airline tickets. Also, have you checked into flying out of Ontario, CA. When I lived in CA we use to fly out of there alot due to cost, ease (instead of LAX) and low parking fees. I do not remember how far it is from LA but i think it is around 1 hour drive.
Dianne, don't give up on the Adoption. We were married for 5 years with nothing. We had a "procedure" and a 1/2. Nothing. Two years into the adoption process we were presented with our gift from god. speed ahead six years and you should be able to meet her on the cruise. We are truly blessed.
Anyone else with a Dd around six going on the cruise? Mine likes everything disney, running around, talking, computers and is not shy one bit (she gets that from being a military brat).
We would love to link up on the get togethers if possible to gain all of your insights and to thank you for the messages on the board.

Pricem - Welcome to the DIS boards... and welcome to our 10/12 thread!!
I actually have to fly out of Fresno to get to LAX, so I'm afraid Ontario won't help - but thanks!!
You are welcome to join our gatherings on board - DW and I are hosting an informal winetasting get together in our suite on thursday the 17th. If I may ask for your stateroom number, I'll be able to get in touch with you on board!
There are secret porthole rooms on the Magic but I don't know where they are. I am certain some of the folks on this thread will be able to answer you.
As far as the Radisson shuttle, it is my understanding that anyone staying there can use the shuttle to get to port. Am I right guys?
You can get off the ship any 'ol time you please, you do not have to be with a Disney excursion. It is best however if you only get off the ship when it's in port. ;) In fact, we have never taken a Disney-sponsored excursion... and probably never will. Much easier, cheaper and more flexible to do things on your own.
The Surial bath was a very nice experience. Sign up for whatever day and time you prefer, then check your DD into the kid's club for that period. Maybe check the navigator for an event your DD is interested in, then schedule your Surial to coiincide with that.
I can't elaborate on the dolphin swim 'cuz we've never one the one in Cozumel.
We have 2 kids, DS 12 and DD 10 - our DD loves younger kids and is really good with them. I'd love to introduce her to your DD and maybe they will enjoy each other's company. I think ours is a natural born babysitter! Even when she is on vacation, I notice her watching out for smaller kids in the pool. :)
Glad to have you aboard! Keep the questions coming. We are always happy to answer anything we can. There are some wonderful people in this group.
(BTW - It's "Denine", not "Dianne"... ;) ) There are also a number of other young kids in our group so I'm sure your DD will have no shortage of new friends. We look forward to meeting you!

First off:
Denine - been there, done that, have the t-shirt! Five years worth of furstatiion and tears. Found a new fertility doctor and was pregnant 3 months later. Thank God every day that in 1989 we decided to move north of Orlando. Found new Doc....the rest is history. If it's your dream..it'll happen.
Beanco - Did you talk to legs22? Her DD had the albration (sp?) in the spring. She might be able to give you some, "been there" information.
Told my DH that the evening of your get together in beanco's suite, we'll crack open the bottle of 'breitenbach first crush' given to us in May by wdwgoose and watch beanos' video of our 10/13/01 cruise.

Hey everybody!
We are back from Toronto and back at work (UGH!!)
We really enjoyed our weekend and The Lion King was fabulous (as was all the shopping I did! LOL!)
We are going to be pretty busy up until the cruise, so I am hoping it makes it go by faster. We are starting our adoption work this week (application, homestudy, etc) so that will keep my mind really busy. :)
Denine- glad to hear you are feeling better. I hate when it hurts to laugh! :) I hope everything works out for you. After months on Clomid, we are moving on with adoption. I wish you the best of luck!
Beano- take care of yourself! We need a healthy cameraman to keep up with us! :)
Kamy :)
Denine
07-22-2002, 10:57 AM
Kamy: Good luck with the adoption process. The Homestudy was no problem. It was the application process where you have to write a ton of stuff and putting together our Profile, that was a pain. For those of you that don't know, a profile is pretty much a resume fo why you would be a good parent and stuff about you and your SO. It usually includes pictures. Birth parents choose the adoptive parents these days based on what they want in a parent. They read several profiles and choose whom they want to speak to. The fewer hang-ups you have, the faster you will be chosen. Hence, we have been waiting for 3 years. We have 1 year left on our homestudy. They have to updated every 2 years.
And some people say adoption is the easy way out! Yeah right!
Happylady: I didn't have the surgery in hopes of becoming pregnant. I had it because I couldn't take the pain anymore. I could probably become preganant if Jerry didn't have problems. We are still palnning the adoption route.

Denine - Thanks for the wishes. We are actually planning to adopt a set of siblings (ages 1-7) who are already waiting. We do not have our hearts set on a baby, so for us this was the way to go! Best of luck in your wait. I know it is hard. Hopefully on the cruise, we will have promising news!
Is anyone doing Capt. Marvin's Stingray excursion in GC??? We are thinking about it!
Kamy

07-22-2002, 09:44 PM
Hi guys!
Well, after review of my 24 hr. heart monitor, my Doc has determined that I am not a candidate for ablation - so no surgery for Beano! Instead they are putting me on medication for 8 weeks, thinking it will knock out this arrhythmia. So instead of going under the knife, I'll just be on drugs!
Fortunately I should be done with all this before the cruise so I can just
relax and enjoy myself the way I am suppose to!
We can't seem to decide on ANYTHING when it comes to excursions! DS and I want to snorkel, DW and DD want to shop. The catch is, DW wants us all to be together... hmmmm... could be tricky, unless they have underwater shopping! A compromise is probably in order - snorkeling in Cozumel, shopping in Cayman. I think we just plan to do Key West 'spur of the moment', and I think I'll send a self addressed envelope to Shirley for her info on KW.
DW thinks we should have our DIS gathering at 2:00 PM rather than 3, so we have plenty of time together before we have to get ready for dinner. We have early seating and it takes DW a looooong time to get ready! :)
Any objections to 2:00 PM ??
Maureen - Who is your friend that saw my video?? I am curious to know how they got it!
Kamy - I am splitting my pixie dust between you guys and Denine and Jerry. I have special adoption pixie dust, ya know! ;)
Gonna be a great cruise, everyone. Can we leave now????

07-23-2002, 08:30 AM
Beano - Great News! Drugs are wonderful! LOL!!! :) I sliced my thumb on a potato slicer last month (pretty badly I might add) and I got great pain killing drugs for that! :)
Thanks for the pixie dust. Dh (Tim) and I are getting all our stuff together for our home study, so we can use all the "dust" we can get. The agency is very hopeful that we will have a child (or children) in our home before Christmas. Would make this year extra special :)
2pm sounds wonderful! Even though we have late seating, we like to get ready for dinner before the nightly show. Great idea.
Excursions for us are the same way! I don't want to "miss anything" being at an excursion all day. Dh prefers to not shop too much (he has the "3 minute rule" for shopping) :)
We plan (as of now) to possibly take the trolley tour in KW, so we can get on and off at our leisure and see the area. We plan to do Capt Marvins stingray excurion in GC and the Catamaran Snorkel trip in Cozumel. But, those could change. :)
Only 5 weeks from Friday and I am at WDW. Still, I can't help but be totatlly excited for this cruise!! Are you sure it isn't October yet??? :)

07-23-2002, 10:24 AM
Beano: I win!!! The last one under the knife before the cruise:p Hopefully the drugs will work. If you don't mind, what did he put you on?
Kamy: Good luck to you! We had originally talked about adopting a toddler, but were told there are no toddlers. So we decided on a baby. My problem is, I am a nurse at work. I don't want to be one at home too. That's what I would be to so many of the kids out there. If it is meant to be, we will have a child. If not, Jerry and I have come to terms with it and are prepared to live without children. This was not an easy decision to make. It has taken several years to realize it is OK if we don't have kids.
The change in time is fine with us. We are very flexible this cruise. We have no plans, no excursions, nothing. Just take it as it comes.
BeanoC
07-23-2002, 11:00 AM
Denine - He put me on Toprol XL, which is a brand name for Metoprolol. It is his opinion that this arrhythmia will 'burn itself out' within 6-8 months, and a 8 week course of this medication may stop it earlier. We'll see!!
Although we enjoyed St. John last year, it was "go-go-go, rush-rush-rush". We don't want that this year, so we plan on a much more laid-back cruise. One snorkeling trip (plus CC), and one shopping trip. We also plan to get in some 'ship time' while everyone else is in port, which is a nice time to enjoy the pools and hot tubs!
Looks like it's 2:00 PM for our gathering on thursday. I hope to have everyone's room number before we sail, so I will call and remind y'all.

We could play a little game called last one to get their cruise docs buys the first beer at the ESPN club.
Happy Tuesday everyone!

Hello all. I am Kamgen's DH. She has been buggin me to post a little hello but I am not that type of poster. I like to post when I have something to contribute. She has been contributing pretty well for the both of us.
Beano - I wanted to let you know that a second opinion is always good when it comes to your heart. I have had a Radiofrequency Ablation to correct SVT. I was diagnosed with it at 12 years old. It got worse and worse until I was in the hospital almost once a week because of it. They put me on all kinds of drugs to try to correct it and nothing worked. I was set up for a little experiment which today is one of the most common heart surgeries. My third cardiologist finally okayed me for the procedure and it worked. The arythmia never returned. I wish you all the best and would be happy to answer any questions you might have.
I am looking forward to the cruise! Work is getting old fast. Cant wait to meet you all.

I found out yesterday that I do have endometriosis. I talked to my doc and he said he took 5 biopsies and they all came back positive. I guess I will find out on Monday where we go from here.
Beano: Toprol is a good drug. I hope it works for you!
I start back to work tomorrow! It has been nice being off for a little while.

Denine- Hope all works out for you. This is probably not what you wanted to hear. Sometimes I think it is better to actually know what is wrong then to have the doctors say they can't explain it. (which is my problem) :)
Slow day at work, wish I was cruising! :)

Denine - I agree with Kamy: It probably wasn't the easiest thing to hear, but at least now you know and can move forward to get better right? :) Now you can get back in your routine at work, and the next 2 months will fly by and then... cruise time!
Tarzanman - Thanks for posting. I appreciate you taking the time to share your experiences. I agree that second (and even third) opinions are invaluable. After reviewing my Holter monitor results, my doctor determined that I have an irregular ventricular contraction, as opposed to scar tissue interrupting my normal rhythm, as previously thought. So, he says ablation is a mute point because there's nothing to ablate. I had 867 occurances during the 24 hr. period!!
I must say that in the 3 days I have been taking Toprol, I have had very few occurances, so I'll give it a little time before seeking other advice. It seems to be working. The only thing I don't like is that it makes me sleeeeepy! :o
Ok - I have my plane tickets, I have my limo ressies, have my resort ressies, have my KSC tickets, have most everything. So now:
I want my docs I want my docs I want my docs! ;)

Last year, we were the last in our group of DIS'ers to get our docs and it drove me crazy!! We didn't get them until 10 days before we left. (We spent a week in WDW before the cruise). If that happens again this year, my head may explode.

I have suspected endo for some time. I had put the surgery off for 2 years and finally decided it had to be done. I was trying conservative treatments first. I would have been more surprised if he had not found endo. At least I know for sure that I have it.
Work went OK today. It was nice and quiet, almost too quiet. I was hurting though. But, there were no emergencies or crises. I actually got to sit for an hour doing paperwork. That is unheard of when you are a nurse. I go back tomorrow and then Sunday and then Monday I have my follow-up appointment.
I want my docs too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

Sorry guys - I know you have all heard enough about my health concerns, but I am so jazzed right now I had to say something!
After averaging more than 850 irregular ventricular contractions EVERY DAY for so long , I have not had even a single one in 4 days now!!! What an unbelievable relief. I feel like I've got a new heart... I am ready to take on the world. But more importantly, I am ready to cruise on the Disney Magic and have one hell of a great time!!

OK Denine, now you're really making me feel like an anal-compulsive cruise planner!
Not only am I always surfing these boards... but I started packing a month ago!
We have this big box in our bedroom closet and we're constantly adding stuff to it; sunscreen, water shoes, film, etc. Next to it sits a five-gallon water bottle (the kind they deliver drinking water in) and we use that to put our spare change in. Last year we had almost a thousand bucks!
Nothing like planning ahead ;)

Hi again everyone. Beano glad to hear you are doing better.
Does anyone know where I could get a Bell Costume for my daughter that does not cost 45-50 dollars? I have searched on the net but it seems they all run around that price.:) I would like it for one of the formal nights on the cruise.

Kamy - Ah, a bottle of Absolut and a bottle of Spicy Bloody Mary mix! That wouldn't be too bad out on the verandah about 8:00AM!
or 9AM, or 10... ;)
We are making a trek to Target, Sam's Club, etc. this weekend to stock up on all the essentials; Bonine, Aspirin, shampoo, sunscreen, film, etc. so we will be ready to go. It's really starting to feel like it's "right around the corner" now.
Have any of you used Cartier Towncar before? I have ressies with them for our limos this year. I hope they perform as good as they make themselves sound!

Dh is a huge fan of Absolut and Cranberry Juice! :) And I put my Absolut in my White Russians. (We sound like a bunch of lushes! LOL!) I say...who cares?!?!?!? :)
I love Bonine. It totally helps me. I take two at boarding and it works great!
Is Target far from you?? You did say "treK". :)

Busy though...we start our homestudy (adoption) this week. Stressful but exciting!

Kamy - They are breaking ground on a new Target here where I live, but it won't be done for about 6 months. For now,we have to drive about 35 miles to go there! (I live in a town of 10,000 people - it's amazing that we are even getting one!)
Kamy, if this cruise is as much fun as it sounds, I hope we remember it! ;) Absolut, wine, beer... LOL
We may have to refer to "Beano's video" to recall the trip :p
Last year, we used "Simply Motion", which is a Tylenol brand motion sickness tablet containing bonine. It worked wonders for my DD and DW; my son and I had no problems and didn't need any. (I use the beer to offset the motion of the ship!) The girls took one tablet the first day and never had any trouble the rest of the cruise.
Is everyone getting trip insurance??
I have never gotten it before but am wondering if it would be worth it. Since we are going to WDW for a week before the cruise, I am not concerned about missing the ship. But as far as illness - you never can tell what might happen. Do you know where I can get it, since I didn't purchase it when I booked?
What'ya think?

Beano- 35 miles to a Target!!! Holy cow! :)
We have 4 Targets (that I know of) within a 25 minute drive! :) We are bombarded with them. :)
dh never needs anything either. He never gets motion sick, he rarely gets sick at all. Me, I am addicted to coasters and rides, but that first night on the ship I feel a little too much "rockin and rollin"! So, bonine it is for me...mixed with a few bon voyages, wine, and beer! :)
I think this cruise is going to be fabulous! I cannot wait.
We have never gotten trip insurance. I worry, but I am not sure it is worth it. I have had instances where I was ill on vacation, but I don't know. I am going on this cruise if I have to grow wings to get there. :)

I am seriously considering getting it.I am afraid if something were to happen while on the trip and I or a family member needed to see the Dr. Or needed and antibiotic.Or worst case senario someone needed to be airlifted. Here is a link to a good article about travel insurance http://www.insure.com/travel/travel.html[/URL] I need to investigate more about what is covered on my personal Health Ins. and also on my credit card.

We are doing it directly through Captain Marvin's. It is less costly and comes highly recommended. Plus, the staff there is so friendly and we feel comfortable doing it. Also, the times are better for us and we are doing the 2 hour one.
What about you guys? What excursions are you doing?

Kamy, we haven't booked anything yet in the way of excursions. I really don't know what to do. DS and I will snorkel somewhere, I just don't know when or where yet. I expect we will snorkel some on CC, but I want to do some better snorkeling as well, either in Cayman or Cozumel. Any suggestions? We also will be shopping somewhere, I am sure. My wife will be on a mission for tanzanite!
That's really the only aspect of our trip that is still up in the air. Everything else is booked and done, but shore excursions remain a question mark.
I'd be happy to hear any ideas you guys have!

Beano - you are so funny! My dh thinks I am the only one on the boards. You see, I have them up all day at work. I am an admin and work on my computer all day. In between things, I check the boards. I am rarely ever on at home! LOL!!! SO, that is my reason....what is yours??? :)
I wish more people were here during the day. :)
As far as excursions, here is what we are planning (in case anyone cares LOL!):
KW- we plan to do this on our own. Probably the trolley tour since you can get off and on at your leisure if you do not go through DCL and it is cheaper. We were originally doing the Schooner Sail, but the place that does it is closed in Sept/Oct
GC- Capt Marvins snorkel at the barrier reef and stingray city (11:15am) - not through DCL
Cozumel - this is our iffy one. But we will probably do the Fury Catamaran Snorkel and Beach Party (through DCL). We love catamarans and I want to snorkel and one hour on the beach is enough for us when we plan to be at CC all day. :)
As for shopping...I am with your wife on this one...but I am not looking for jewelry. :) We plan to spend a little while before or after excursions to get some sightseeing and shopping in (gotta find things like rum, key lime pie, etc). :)
The excursion times were big for us. We did not want to spend an entire day in port on one excursion, so these fit nicely.
Hope this helps!
And Beano- don't be ashamed that we are always here...we have our priorities in order! ROTFL!!!! :)

I am always doing something on the computer, whether it's working in Quickbooks or Word, or emailing this or that... so I keep the DIS site handy and check in frequently. But I also get on the boards at home. Does that scream 'get a life' or what???

Can anyone else get a word in edgewise??
Since we are old fashioned and only have one phone line, I can't stay on all the time. Sometimes Jerry works from home.
Beano: We also have a change jar where the money is reserved for vacations. I have my master packing list on the computer. I modify it based on where we are going and then the day before we throw it all in the luggage! I wondered when you were going to get around to telling everyone what you do for a living. As last year, if anyone has any problems, us nurses will try to fix you. If we can't we will send you Beano's way!
I bought a tanzanite pendant in Cozumel in April. It matches the earrings I bought in St. Maartin last year. I am always looking at Tanzanite. They have a Tanzanite Interantional and right now i can't remember where I bought my pendant.

I wasn't trying to hide what I do for a living, I guess it just never came up. It's not as macabre as most people think. Some funeral professionals are quite normal - not me of course - but some!

Wow, What interaction between Beano and Kamgen today. Almost like being in a chat room. LOL.
I have a good friend who's husband is also in the funeral home business in NY. He is fairly normal. But Beano you do seem a bit obsessive, compulsive when it comes to this cruise. LOL. I guess that is why I originally thought you were female. I didn't think it possible but I believe you are more excited about this trip then I am.
It's a good Idea you bought your own snorkel gear. I am considering buying 2 sets for my family to share. DH isn't much of a swimmer so I will take the kids one at a time at CC. By the time you pay the rental it is almost cheaper to buy it. I think Sports Authority is having some good deals. The only thing I haven't seen in the stores is that little rubble inflatable that they had to keep you on the surface. Maybe I will try a scuba shop.
As far as being on these boards......Well, I read everyday but as you can see from my number of posts I only reply when I feel I have something to contribute. Doesn't mean I am not here. I am getting closer to Veteran Status. Hope to make it there by the cruise.
Internet access for me is fairly easy since we have AOL
HighSpeed with a cable modem. The only time I can't get on is if someone else is hogging the computer.
Can't wait to meet everyone!!!!

Uh oh, Kamy - they're starting to talk about us now! ;) You don't think they've found us out, do you?
Only joking, all! (Remember - my DW reads this thread too!)
Maureen - SOOOO... obsessive/compulsive am I??? WELL!
Jus' kidding! :) You BET I am obsessive about this (and every) family vacation. They mean a great deal to me. In just a few short years, our kids will be grown and gone - these are the times that I treasure and I make as much of them as I can. There was a time not so long ago when I thought we may never realize our 'dream vacation' to Florida/WDW. Now, here we are staring in the face of our THIRD trip there, and our second Disney Cruise!
These times together and these memories are priceless. I spend this much time on these boards because I want to make this vacation everything I can make it. Since my kids have already been on the Magic, I felt I had to do a few things to top last year! So far, the cat. 3 suite is the biggest difference.
I have a few more tricks up my sleeve though! Getting to know you guys here on this board, and ultimately meeting on the ship, really adds alot to the vacation for me.
Life is short... Carpe Diem.

Jerry's mom's best friend's family owned a funeral home. She grew up playing in it. They got a real shock though one day when a corpse sat straight up!!! I am glad there are people like you that do your job. I don't "do" dead people. I don't cae if I am a nurse. I get them when they are still warm.
