Wow! Thanks for the welcome!!:)
Seems like we can NEVER get into FW, so we are staying at the KOA for our spring break visit! April 4-11
We love to camp! We have our dream motorhome that we plan on full timing in , once the kids are gone!(off to college) It's a Fleetwood Pace Arrow! We bought it 2 years ago, after years of tent camping, then pop-up, then TT, then class C! I wish I could live in it now, but the kids like having their own rooms!;)

We'll be at the Fort the first 3 weeks in Nov (can't wait!!)... and yeah, we booked it 499 days ahead. :scared1:
FW fills up fast and often. It's sometimes possible to get in without planning way ahead if you're not looking to go during a particularly busy time of year or call the ressie line frequently... ok, every day. :lmao: Cancellations happen all the time!

Welcome to the Camping Board!!!!
gosh I wish I was you!!!!!
we're camping May 23-May 31st (then disney cruise!)
This is our first time to camp at FW- not our first time camping in our TT though- we've had it for close to 9yrs or so? It's a 28ft TT (with bunks- only 2 though... with 3 kids... and now that the youngest is older I expect some fighting over who gets to sleep in the bunks LOL) Sleeps 8 though... anyone wanna sleep over?
:rotfl:
We're pretty excited about our first stay at FW AND our first time to have the convenience of cooking some meals for ourself (and I'm excited about saving so much money!) and not taking hours to get to the campfire singalong and doing HDDMR for the first time and being able to fish right there at our "resort" and and and... you get the idea. LOL We've been to FW several times just to check it out (ride the boat over from MK and back to MK) and for the campfire singalong which we love... but this time we're STAYING there. So excited. :)

We have never been able to plan very far in advance because of my DH miltary job! Now that he's retired maybe we can actually plan a year ahead and get into FW next year! I grew up tent camping at FW and would love to show my kids where we stayed! Can you visit the campground if your not staying onsite?:)

FYI: There is a sticky at the top of this board titled "Post your camping dates here" with a calender for anyone to post their dates on. It is a great way to see who is going to be there when you are. BTW, we are staying at FW from 6/12 to 6/27.

Absolutely. The best way to visit the campground for a bit is to take a break from the Magic Kingdom and take the boat over. Then you can just walk around and explore!! You can take any of the internal buses. Go to the Meadows area and rent bikes for a couple of hours. Visit the movie and sing along in the evening. Have lunch at Trails End or make reservations for the Hoop De Doo!!
Great way to spend an afternoon, a week, Or a lifetime!!! (I wish)

Yes, you are free to visit the fort, however, you cannot drive your own vehicle through the campground to look around. You can park in the overflow lot at the entrance and either walk around or use the internal bus system. FYI: Even people staying at FW are not allowed to drive around the campground, we can only drive to and from our site. Otherwise, to get anywhere else in the campground we need to walk, bike, use a golf cart or take a bus to get from place to place within FW.

Yes!
We've visited there several times for the campfire singalong and just to walk around and check it out!
Oh btw you don't always have to plan a year ahead. When we recently booked the discounted cruise for May 31 09- I called and booked our May 24-31st stay at FW and had no problem getting a premium or preferred site. I don't know about the rest of the sites though. Then just recently (last week) I called to add May 23rd to our reservation without any problem. So just saying- you don't always have to book a year ahead. I guess that's changed because I know in 2007 we tinkered with the idea of making a reservation for the summer 2008 (yes a year ahead) and couldn't find any openings. So maybe it used to be that way- but not anymore? Anyway just saying you should check it out sometime and you might not have to book a year ahead. :)
