I'm going to give up the DIS for Lent.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

I was thinking of all the things I could give up that would really be a sacrifice. Is it sad that giving up the DIS is going to be harder than giving up Diet Pepsi, French Fries, or half my spending money each paycheck???!??

What I'm giving up is wandering aimlessly through the boards literally for an hour at a time (or more). I'm going to spend that time in other (more productive to the outsider) ways. Plus, I might actually have a conversation with my husband after the kids go to bed instead of reading and typing. I'm going to keep listening to the Podcast (I can't go cold turkey!!!), and I'm making my husband, who's been a lurker for a little while now, get a screen name tonight so I can get important updates through him. I keep insisting to him that it ISN'T cheating. So, if he keeps me updated on the big news around here, I'll be ok...right???

See you after Easter!!:scared:

Good luck Jen. In case you "give in" we'll be here. Oh! And we are very forgiving people. :)

Hey, check back on Sundays!

Remember, we can have what you gave up on Sunday's. :)

Do you get Sundays off? I can't remember.

My dad always told me that you got Sundays off...I had never heard it from anyone else, though. I know our priest used to absolve him every year on St. Patrick's Day (he used to give up alcohol). Fr. Mac insisted that, being the only other true Irishman in the parish (I don't think that was the case - maybe the only one he was close to??), Dad had to drink a green beer with him every St. Patrick's Day at the K of C hall. :shamrock:

I've told DH to pop up and introduce himself in the next few days. Thanks for not thinking I'm a nut. :flower3: Only you guys wouldn't laugh at me for saying this!!!

Sundays are "free days" and are not considered part of the 40 days of lent!

You're a better woman than I, my friend! I've given up and taken on many things over the years, back when I was a practicing Episcopalian, but I don't think I could give up the Dis. I'm just not that strong. I've lost almost 100 pounds (the old fashioned way, no surgery, etc.), and I could easily give up any sort of food (except maybe fruit), but golly, I just don't think I could give up the boards! :scared:

You are my new hero if you pull this off! :worship: See you Sunday (and yes, you do get Sunday off - Sundays are feast days, always and forever!).

I couldn't give these boards up, they are my lifeline, all you guys are my lifeline.

I'm not ready to go cold turkey, I sometimes have periods where i won't post for a week or two, but I always end up crawling back!

My favorite Irish pub in Richmond, Va used to have this great St. Patrick's Day tradition. The day before St. Pat's, they would put CPR Annie in a make-shift coffin, drape the bar in black and have a wake. As any good Catholic knows, you can only drink at a good ole fashion Irish wake!

I still send a card with my condolences to the bar's owner!
