I have the Making Memories trimmer and I BROKE it! :sad1: I tried to cut something that was too thick- I knew it was and that I shouldn't push it, but I did anyway. And of course I need it to make cuts for my swap! ARRRGGHHHHH!!!!!! So... anyone have a trimmer they just love?? It appears I'm in the market for a new one.

I have the Creative Memories and the Fiskers little one. I like the Creative Memories better.

I may be able to help you. What exactly is broken, the blade part? I got a replacement trimmer, because I had one that the grid wore off, and MM sent a replacement. But the blade part is good.
Won't help you if you have a tight deadline, but maybe a cheap Fiskars trimmer could get you through the short term. My backup trimmer (which gets used when I am cutting small stuff) is the Fiskars Euro Trimmer.

i have the MM one that i used most of the time. I also have the fiskars one but i did not love it. and i have the little CM one. i like that one for little things.
Sorry your trimmer broke Ashley, especially at a critical time. Come on up and use mind. Though you'll need to bundle up, it's 16º out this morning.
I love my CM trimmers too. I have the straight, decorative, and personal trimmer.
If you ordered a CM online, direct shipped you should get it in a few days.:)

I broke my MM one too! I think I need a replacement blade, does anyone know how to get one? I have a HUGE Fiskars one I bought a long time ago, I bought a replacement for that (to use at home), but it just doesn't travel well, and I'm going to a weekend crop in 36 days! Wooooohooooo, 36 days!

A friend of mine broke hers and she called MM and they sent her a replacement blade within two days! Call them! Their CS department is fantastic - I had problems with the caps of the paints and they sent me replacement caps as well as a couple bottles of paint.
I LOVE my MM cutter, very few cutters compare - I have Fiskar's (which I've given to my DD), CM (which is ok for crops but won't cut some of my Bazzill correctly :( ) and then my MM.

Which is great when I want the torn look. My grid has worn off, do you just call the customer service to fix that? Did they send a new trimmer????
I think I am just going to buy a cheap backup to get me through the weekend and try to fix my MM one. I really love it.

Let me know what they say, I can't wait too long!

WOW.... I never thought of calling customer service. I too have the MM trimmer (which I don't love, but it was a gift and it is useful) and the grid has totally worn off... and the parts that didn't wear off got wiped off when I tried to clean it with Un-Du! I have penciled back in the inch increment lines, but it is a pain in the butt! I'll call them and see what they say (although maybe I ought to wait until tomorrow... you all will have the lines tied up today!).............P
BTW, I love my plain old blue 12" Fiskars trimmer.... but I run through the blades at a furious pace (which I why I asked for the MM trimmer for its self-sharpening blade!).

I contacted them through the website. Under Contact Us, they have a Product Replacement link. Some people were asked to send a photo to show the bad grid, but I wasn't asked. It did take about 6 weeks to get the new trimmer. Great customer service!

Does anyone have the item number for the MM trimmer?

Never mind! Found it. I went through the website and requested a replacement. We shall see.

I requested a replacement through the website too. I called them and they said "we don't sell replacement blades" (I thought, well, that's okay, cuz I didn't want to PAY for one). So, she suggested I take the effer apart and put it back together to make sure the blade is on the right track. Of course, I haven't tried it yet, but I will today. If it doesn't work, I'll call them back.

Ashley,
I bought the "As seen on TV- craft lite cutter" for $10 at Big Lots- yesterday. I haven't used it yet, except to cut a few scraps. A few friends have this one and like it. If not, they said I could bring it back.

Ok, how did you take it apart? Maybe that's all I need to do too. I bought the Fiskars trimmer (not the rotary, the cheaper one) last night at Joann's and I'm not all that impressed. But, it's better than nothing!

You know the little red tab, push it up and out, then pull the bar out and the blade will come off. I put it back together and made sure the blade was on the side of the sharpening doo-hickey and it started cutting instead of tearing!

Ok, well I took it apart, and it's cutting now not tearing. But it's not cutting straight, there is one spot that kinda goes crooked and then goes straight again.

Mine seems to be cutting straight, but I don't have the best eye anyway, I'm a little crooked ;)

Is the blade nicked in that section? Or maybe some glue or paper is stuck to it there?

I'll have to check. I looked a little yesterday but it doesn't hurt to look again.

I'd say don't get the CM big one if you use a lot of Bazzill (and as a swapper you do, I bet:rolleyes1 ) as the stuff just EATS the blades - I got the MM one because of being self-sharpening as I was sick of forking out £8 a time for replacement blades.
I had to take my blade off and reassemble when I got it and its been fine since.:thumbsup2

I got an email from a Making Memories costumer service rep. saying that they are waiting on a trimmer shipment. She thought mid-April they would get them. So it may take a little longer, I'm just happy that it sounds like they are going to replace it! And that they took the time to email me. :thumbsup2

I got an email saying that they didn't have replacement blades, but giving me the instructions I had gotten over the phone on how to realign the blade. It seems to be working better.
Hope they replace it for you quick!
