Very interesting, thank you for posting!
We still don’t have many details about what D23 will offer. Rumors include an enrollment fee, a yearly convention, exclusive merchandise, and an online community. We’ll see shortly, I guess. All the details will be revealed on March 10th.
Maybe this is one of the reasons that Mousefest was cancelled this year? Maybe the executive board had a little bit of knowledge of this Club 23 and that was part of the influence towards cancelling? Just a thought!

It figures that whatever "23" is, there would be merchandise for it.

I'm sort of wondering how these pictures got out....Disney likes to keep secrets... :confused3

Interesting. I think I would join something like this...depending on what the annual fee is. Hopefully Disney will make that reasonable.
My brother belongs to something similiar for Elvis fans...he is a HUGE Elvis fan. He pays a yearly fee, I can't think how much, and gets member only emails, member merchandise exclusive stuff, discounts on Elvis shopping and travel discounts for Memphis and Graceland. Also members get first heads up on special events and early ticket purchase for events. Not sure if they have a convention.

This is interesting. I might consider joining if the fee was reasonable. My DH collects pins so that would be an incentive. I think they have to come up with some real perks, not just some more of the other stuff they try to pass off as perks.

If that is the reason that there is no Mousefest, that's pretty crappy. It's like Disney was trying to make it a way for them to get ALL the money from Mousefest. Like Disney fans can't convene, unless they pay Disney a membership fee for it.

Before we get into some kind of D-Files Mousefest conspiracy theory - lets look at some facts.
1) Disney had Official Disneyana Conventions for fans and collectors before Mousefest even began. I attended many of these and believe the last one was held in 2000 or so? I couldn't go, as I had recently moved to Los Angeles. These had special tours the went even deeper than any of the current "Backstage" offerings the give the public now. There, of course, was official merchandise.
2) Please read the official reasons that Mousefest was cancelled. Bottom line - they need a new chairman that has large event planning experience, as Mousefest has gotten too big. They state that their current one has resigned his unpaid position to attend to his personal life.
Let's not make more of this than it is.

Nancy,
I wasn't trying to drum up some conspiracy theory. It was just a thought. Of course, there are always reasons why Mousefest has been cancelled and I am sorry to see that it won't be happening this year. I can't even begin to imagine the work that goes into something that big. However, there may also be reasons as to why Mousefest is cancelled that are not being released to us, the Disney fan. There are always happenings behind the scenes that we won't ever know about.
I was just thinking that if the blogger was right about it being a club of some sort w/ an annual convention, that it would be kind of ironic that Mousefest was cancelled this year. Of course, this whole club thing could be wrong and they are just releasing 23 Blu-Rays!

K - it wasn't you. It was a personal pet peeve. Boy - going back and looking at it, I used my mom voice, didn't I? :rolleyes1 And then I forgot to use my smilies and the winky one... ;) oooh - or this one  that would have been good....
I would frankly love a new official Disney sponsored convention. Those Disneyana parties ROCKED!!!!!!!!   Whole parks shut down for just the ConventionEars, Amazing Scavenger hunts (I still have my packet from the one at the Studios....) Really cool merchandise and hotel/convention center decorations (the Villans (Take Over) year was extremely impressive in decor - one of the best!). I even was allowed to launch boats on IASM with two other TDS CMs from Wisconsin!
The 40th anniversary DL party was awesome. The Indy themed dessert table - amazing...

Hmmm ... I can't say that I'm overly excited about the whole promotion, but I'm hoping it will be interesting/different. The blog makes it seem like there is a chance this isn't a DVD-related or other totally underwhelming announcement.
I don't know what it says about me, but I like any club that's Disney themed. I'd have a hard time not joining!

Nancy,
No problem. It must be this whole "23" thing that is getting to us all. :)
Those DL conventions sounded awesome!

I'm thinking the same thing. I think Disney is a little late to the party.

I think this is either going to be an awsome addition for Disney fans or completely overpriced, and not realistic for the real disney fans to join due to price point.

I don't think this will be a replacement for MKC. I think it is Disney's attempt to have their own official community. Question is, how will Disney handle all of the unofficial web sites and podcasts after this starts?
Pete, John, Kevin, what are your thoughts on this?

I'm guessing that this "Official Disney Community" will have their own chat boards and things like that, but knowing Disney, they'll probably make it family friendly and police it so much that it won't be worth it. There will still be a place for Disboards and the others.

The Jiminy poster is very interesting! I think it would be so great if Disney created something special for their die hard uber fans. I kind of doubt it though...Disney, for some reason, never seems to me to properly appreciate the uber fan demographic. I definitely don't think whatever this is will take away from the DISboards or other fan sites.

I'm excited at the possibility of what it could be......with some exceptions.
I'm not wealthy. I'm a college student and don't make a ton of money right now. So, I have to scrape to get to Disney as it is. It takes some huge saving on my part.
I'd LOVE to be part of this "official Disney community" but how affordable is it going to be? Disney fans come from all classes.
Also, I'm wondering if being part of this "club" or community will enable you to get any sort of discounts on trips or things of that nature. That would be an awesome way to show appreciation for your Disney fans, I think.
Just wondering how affordable a club like this will be from Disney :confused3

wow I missed all this info. I don't know what I think yet. I don't think that a convention sounds to apealing to me, I would not be able to go to it I am sure that it will be $$$. I guess I will just have to wait and see what they offer. As far as a discussion community replacing the Dis... NEVER! at least not for me!

I find it interesting that the D23 Expo is starting 9/10, just a day after the Haunted Mansion 9/9/9 event that sold out so quickly. Seems like it should have just been part of this larger event. Especially with people placing orders for HM merch already when you know there's going to be a lot more exclusives throughout the weekend.
