I'll admit that I have a spreadsheet fetish and created the all contingency, fully calculating, uber-ridiculous chart system only to find that we are still better off with the TIW card than the Deluxe Plan by $165.

If I only devoted that many hours to my job :)

I was kind of hoping the dining plan would win, it would have been something new for us to try.

Sorry but what is TIW? I have not heard of it. Thanks.

The Tables In Wonderland dining card. You get 20% (I think) off your meal at CS or TS. You have to pay for the card, not sure how much it is though. It does pay for itself though if you eat enough food!

It doesn't work for us either, we save more paying out of pocket with the TIW ourselves. (I also have spreadsheets that I plan with :goodvibes )

Funny how spreadsheet junkies always seem to find one another :teeth:

No doubt in my mind that anyone eligible for the TiW card is better off using it than DxDP (or maybe even basic DDP, for a long enough stay) -- you get to choose exactly what you want to order and generally get at least as good of an overall savings (true "maximizers" on the DxDP might save more than 20%, but would they really have ordered that much in the first place? E.g., we're going to "save" about 26%, based on a guestimate of what we will order, but without DxDP, we likely wouldn't have ordered anywhere near the same items, and certainly not an appy and a desert each at every non-buffet meal.)

Yes, I accounted for using all credits, including snack credits since we are going during the F&W festival. I think that what it came down to was that on an 11 day trip a 20% discount across the board (technically 21.3% with the tax discount. I really need an excel intervention, lol) worked better than the varying range of the DDP discount depending on where and what we would eat.

BTW, speadsheet junkie here as well. I re-ran my sheet with the assumption that we'd typically split a single appy and dessert, and came out still slightly ahead of OOP with DxDP (and surprisingly, only $10 less for the whole week in tips) -- add in the intangible benefits of having everything (minus tips) pre-paid and not having to fuss over whether item X is "too expensive" on the menu, and I'm thrilled we're doing the dining plan.

That said, TiW is still a much better option, if you can qualify for it.

I'm an accountant so I default as a spreadsheet junkie whether I want to or not. :lmao: For our upcoming May trip, after running the numbers, the TIW is a much better deal than the DxDDP would be for us too. Our adult children (4 of them) did DxDDP last month and left so many credits at the World, it was such a waste. I tried to tell them it was too much food but they didn't believe me.......

Unless someone is an annual passholder or a FL resident they are not eligible. When we used it on previous trips we really felt that it just paid our tip. 20% off was the tip we were just giving right back to the CM. I honestly like the deluxe dining plan much better. The only good thing about the DDE card (now TIW) was that it included alcohol. We used it one trip in conjunction with the basic dining plan back when the %18 tip was included in the dining plan. We saved A LOT on that trip. I would have loved to use it with the deluxe plan. Of course now the tip is no longer included in any plan.

WE no longer buy AP's because we used to make it so we were vacationing 10-11 months apart (Dec and Oct) and get two trips out of the AP's. Now with our kids football schedule, we go only in May so it's not worth it. We just get the tickets with the Magic your way packages, so no TIW card for us. :)

That is what I originally thought as well but for the way we eat (obviously this is individual to our family) an example on a "pricey" day...

Pre tax and Pre tip prices:
Kona breakfast: 33.05
Flying Fish: 125.00

OOP with TIW Card for the day after discount with tip:163.11
OOP with DxDDP for the day with Tip: 172.45

Leaving 9.34 for snacks

Pretty good deal on the DxDDP but we don't eat that expensive everyday so the average kept dropping.

I think the DxDDP is a great deal if you order room service or dine in 2TS restaurants.

We've used it twice now and have saved about $500 each trip. For us it's a non-issue and the only way we'll "do disney". Then again, we're more foodies than park commandos. :rotfl:

thats how we are. the parks are just something extra to us. we go to be in our hotel, eat, and walk aorund. rides are nice, but don't make or break it for us

Same here, but I think that we'd be better off with the TiW discount if we qualified (partly because along with being foodies, we're also winos  TiW discounts alcohol too! ). I ran the numbers on the premise of upgrading my ticket to an AP and it came out very, very close. Losing the pre-paid aspect doesn't appeal to me, though, so the AP/TiW combo would have to be more than just slightly better to sway me.

We are the same way as well. We usually hit the signature restaurants every other night, add in the wino factor and the TIW is a great deal.

My other hesitation with the DxDDP, is that even though they are close in value with the discounts,we always go during the Food and Wine Festival.

We LOVE LOVE the pairing dinners and other events. If we end up picking 1 or 2 events to go to this year, we can't use the Deluxe Plan (or TIW for that matter) and we would never catch up on those food credits to make it a good deal.

I'd probably have to rethink using the plan if we went for F&W again too, because I'd like to try a pairing dinner. But since October is a bad time for us to travel - testing month at our kids' school and we never know the exact dates until Aug/Sept - it'll be a while before we have to cross that bridge. The standard DDP was perfect for our F&W trip in the past, and I could see that working for us again just for character/fixed price meals and leaving us free to do F&W OOP.

This is us too. For our honeymoon, I have us scheduled in the parks every day, but I know it'll mostly be us strolling around, enjoying ourselves. I deliberately made almost all of our dinner ADRs almost completely outside of the parks so we can leave the park early if we start getting bored.
