Stephanie and Rashad
Escape Wedding at Sea Breeze Point on October 8, 2009

Me- My name is Stephanie and I am a pre-kindergarten teacher in an inner city school! I love working with my 3,4 and 5 year olds. I grew up in Lancaster PA, but moved last year outside of Harrisburg

My Love- Rashad is and x-ray tech. He grew up in Georgia, but after high school he moved around quite a bit. Thankfully he ended up in Harrisburg.

How we met- We are another Match.com success story. I had just moved to Harrisburg, I didnt know anyone so I went online and he was the first guy I messaged. I read his profile and knew he was perfect for me, and if he would just look at my profile he would see that I was perfect for him too (lol) . It took him 3 agonizing days to respond to me.... which I found out was because that weekend he moved to Baltimore! (and hour and a half away)

We made the long distance thing work for us (thank goodness teachers have the summers off. Rashad moved back to PA to be close to me.

The Wedding- I should have probably mentioned that my Dad is a BIGTIME Disney fan! (for those of you on other disney forums He is HTROUPE). He and my mom had such a great time trick or treating at MK a few years back that they decided to take the whole family (Grandparents, me and my sister and boyfriends included) to Disney World the fall of 2009 to do it again.

Rashad and I talked for a while and decided that this would be a great time for us to get married, with my family all there and his family much closer to Florida than PA. So we booked our wedding! OOPS It was a perfect plan except we forgot to get engaged first.

Proposal On February 14, 2009, I visited Rashad in MD while he was working. He took me to our favorite spot in Inner Harbor. Where we spent a lot of time during the "long distance " part of our relationship. It was freezing cold, and it started snowing. Rashad gave me my Valentines present a box. and when I opened it I saw a beautiful aquamarine necklace. He told me to "Stand up so I can help put it on you" So I did and when I turned around to show him the necklace... he was holding and AMAZING aquamarine engagement ring. And he said "Will you marry me?"

Here is the ring

Well I have been back and forth for about a month on an officiant. I really wanted a non-religious ceremony but we didnt know who to get to perform. Well after much deliberation and a lot of research we finally chose Rev. Jack Day. His civil ceremony is beautiful and I have not heard one bad thing about him yet!

YAY! :goodvibes One step closer to the big day!

Well I have been busy with wedding plans, but not so vigilant about updating all of you so here is what has been going on:

Wedding Dress shopping was horrible the first day that I went out. I went to David's Bridal and at first I thought the woman didn't understand what I wanted, because she kept bringing me all of these HORRIBLE dresses, nothing like what I was asking for- but as it turned out... they only had 7 dresses in my size and they were all horrible. :confused3 So I went home that day feeling really frustrated, and all around miserable.

My mom was out at Alfred Angelo with my sister- and she said I should check there, so I drove to Lancaster and tried on some dresses and fell in love with one! YAY!!!

A while later I went back with my sister and my best friend (BMs) and found their dresses. We decided to go with brown, because I am hoping that they will be able to wear them again. Also I am going with the orange calla lilies, and I think that brown and orange are nice for an October wedding. Here is a pic of the bridesmaids gown, they ended up picking the same dress!!!

I LOVE YOUR DRESS!!! :lovestruc

I can't understand for the life of me why David's Bridal skimps on dresses in certain sizes! They had four in my size, 3 of which I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy and one I fell in love with. I dunno!:confused3

You made an excellent choice in the bridesmaid dress - we're doing my MOH in sunshine through Alfred Angelo, but I love the espresso. And with orange calla lilies - GORGEOUS!! :worship:

So today was the third time in a row that Rashad asked me if we were done planning our wedding. "We're done now right? Everything's covered...right? Well I'm telling people that it's all planned." Then a few hours later when he finds out that I'm on the Disboards again I hear "sigh, we're not done are we?"

Well we are done...but we aren't done. I wanted a simple wedding, that was one of the things that really drew me to a Disney Escape Wedding. I make all of the choices and then I show up on the day and it's all taken care of. It was a real priority to me to feel like a "guest" at my own wedding. No drama- no stress, just fun.

LOL- I think to answer my DFiance's question: We are done planning all of the things that typical grooms see at a wedding. The dresses, the flowers, the food. But I still do not have invitations, gifts, welcome bags or centerpieces. (There is still fun to be had!)

At first I questioned whether or not I actually needed invitations at all. I know that a lot of Escape brides find that they dont need them. My family and I keep in very close contact and they are the ones who planned the Disney trip in the first place- I just hijacked it with a wedding. lol:goodvibes

But My DFi doesnt talk to his family much, and I havent even met them, so I was worried that they didnt really believe that this wedding was happening and I wanted to make sure people could arrange to have off work or for transportation and travel time and expenses.

I couldnt find any company that sold less than 50 invitations and I found a lot of really expensive ones. So I figured I could use some creativity and make my own. Well I think it was the printer, but they looked kind of sloppy and unprofessional- so I was looking for an alternative.

My sister uses www.vistaprint.com for address labels and other things for work, and when I looked they were very reasonable (starting at 10 invitations for 7.99) . I liked the fact that they were pretty much a blank template and I could add and adjust a lot to make it unique.

Here is how they turned out- sort of there is some detailing that wouldnt copy from the internet. There is a pattern on the invitations that you cant see in these pictures. Hopefully when they come, I will be able to take a photo.

There are some of my family (parents, sister, sisters fiance, me, my fiance and maternal grandparents) I think we are going to end up using one as our engagement announcement photo.

I just read through your pj. You guys are adorable! I thought the pics were awesome. We are also have Jack Day for our DFTW. Our Ceremony is at 12, so I was looking all over for something special to do that night. I couldnt walk around like it was just any Thursday. Rashad suggested a special dinner. My dad just booked California Grill so we can watch the fireworks, I am really excited about it and he said it was something called the "Sweetheart Dinner". I am not sure what that is, but I'm excited regardless!

I also decided that I wanted a pretty white dress to wear to that dinner. I am also planning on wearing this to my home reception and maybe even wearing it to the Magic Kingdom and taking a picture in front of the castle!

My home reception invitations are here!!! It was hard to find something for a wedding in my colors (orange and brown) or to match DFi and I (being an interracial couple). But I found these cute postcards on Vista and turned them into invites- and they came out great!

http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/photo.jpg

I was also really excited that a family friend is loaning her giant glassware for the candy bar that I want to have! She is using it for her 3 daughters' weddings (one that already happened, and two in the works). So that will save us lots of money. :woohoo::woohoo:

With the candy bar- we are hoping to capitalize on cheap Halloween candy by sticking with an orange and brown color theme at the end of october. With any luck our candy bar will be a beautiful as gibsi53's candy bar! (hope she doesnt mind I'm posting her picture for inspiration!)

Well I think I am having an identity crisis!!!
Ever since I signed my contract I knew what I wanted as far as the 3 choices Escape brides have (location, cake, flowers). I always wanted SBP! I always liked the "elegant scrolls cake" and I always loved the orange calla lilies! (Especially when I saw Dawn's pics (Dhay) :

I hope that Twui and McArthur205 don't mind me borrowing their pictures- but I think I am in love with these flowers!

I still like the orange calla lilies the best. If I had seen Dawn's pictures before I did Yellow and Blue, I would have done Orange and Blue. The orange and pink is cute, but I think the orange and brown that you're going with is perfect! Could you do like Carrie did - orange and turquoise and use the fuchsia as a small 3rd color?

Also Stephanie, I hate to say this, but I'm glad I'm not the only October bride who is having a complex!! :rotfl:I've got so many complex's going up around me, I look like a real estate magnate!

omg girrrrrl i am going through the SAME thing!

The whole flowers thing is driving me nuts! :headache: To save the poor souls who read my PJ i've stopped posting most of my crazy indecisive ideas that come into my head! :lmao:

I like the calla lilies... i think they're beutiful and they are what i originally was going with too.... but i also like the roses with the fuschia and orange colors. I dont know if they would go with the bridesmaid dresses though... hmm... maybe if your bouquet has the fushcia and orange and the BM just have orange? :confused3 maybe that would work!

Thanks to all of the girls who gave their input so far, I am still unsure but I might be leaning towards the roses. Maybe it's just so I can wear pink shoes. LOL:rotfl:

UPDATE- My favors are here for my actual ceremony! (The candy will be for my home reception)
I decided that in the theme of a Destination wedding- that Luggage tags would be cute. When I found some with little castles on it- it seemed perfect. They already come with a box and a bow- but I think I am going to wrap them (because the box is a little ugly). http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/3e250f67.jpg

Just joining in. Congrats! Your ring is beautiful and very unique! Love the family photos, I especially like the one with all the generations, what a great pic to have!

Lol, at your DF thinking everything was "done", until the wedding day it's not done!

Beautiful dress! Sorry you had a bad experience at David's, I used to work there when I was in college and I never understood why they had so few dresses in certain sizes, and you're right, the ones they do have are terrible! Glad you were able to find a dress you loved!

I like the orange calla lilies best for the flowers.

looking forward to hearing more of your plans!

Also just joining in!

Your ring is so nice!!! I really love it!! I told DF I wanted a gemstone ring instead of a diamond (but he thought I would regret it) but every time I see one I wish I would have pushed him more towards it (although I love anything he gives me).

Your pictures are amazing!! You all look so happy, I had a smile on my face as I was looking at them:goodvibes

I think every bride second guesses what she wants everything to look like. I have changed my mind so many times that I have lost count! Anything you pick will look great! And it is disney, they won't let anything look bad!

Congratulations on your engagement! Y'all look like such a cute couple. The photos of you and your df and family are awesome.

I have identity crisis all the time. I am totally indecisive about things. I personally love the pink and orange roses together, but that's b/c I love pink roses. :rotfl: So don't let my opinion get in your way.

Your ring is to die for btw!

OUR PLANNING *so far*
Planner- Amy- (She has been so helpful! )
Ceremony- Sea Breeze Point, at 12noon
Reception -Most likely Boardwalk convention center
Photographer-Randy Chapman
Videographer- unsure if I have the budget for it

I'm a little late on this lol BUUUT...I love your ring and you guys look sooo cute! And I love that your fiance is from GA - so is mine! :goodvibes

Hey Guys! Thanks so much! You ladies are so sweet!:goodvibes

Here are some updates, I was starting to get a little overwhelmed with the start of the school year, and the final month before the wedding hitting at the same time. (Great planning on my part there:rotfl:) But now school is starting to settle down, my little preschoolers are starting to get the routine, now all I have to do is explain to them that I will be gone for a week, but I am coming back! I have one box packed to send down to Disney in my grandparents' car. It has the favors, the top secret cake topper and the top secret gifts for our bridal party that DFi made me PROMISE I wouldnt post on here! :rotfl2: So I will have to wait until the wedding.

I decided to get a conair steamer to steam my dress and the others. It's only 30 bucks from target and it works great! Also I hate ironing, so I plan to use it on a regular basis. :rotfl::rotfl:

I just finished wrapping the favors, and they look much better than they did with those brown boxes. http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/6a705bf5.jpg

And my cat, Baxter helping me out http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/e9411cac.jpg ( I dont know why I thought I could bring ribbon into this house without having some cat interference.)
More updates to follow! Only 18 days until my wedding, 13 days till Disney!:woohoo::woohoo:

Thanks...a good friend made the cake....she makes all of our cakes for the kids parties! So far we have had a 3-d Lightning McQueen, a Baby Jaguar (from Diego), the WallE and a penguin. Cody's b-day is in Dec....no telling what he will want to have!

We skipped MNSSHP last year as we didn't think my inlaws would care for it... but it is on our list for next year's trip!

We're Married!!!!

We got to Florida on October 3rd, got married on October 8th and then came back to PA on October 9th. We are the most backwards couple!! Booking the wedding before we got engaged and having the honeymoon before the wedding, but that's just the way we are I guess. :rotfl::rotfl:

The entire trip was beautiful, although A LOT HOTTER than we thought there was going to be. It was record-breaking heat for 2 of the days of the trip.
The wedding itself was gorgeous aside from the fact that we literally were wiping sweat off of our faces, but we were all still in good spirits! It's our wedding day for crying out loud!

I am still waiting for our pictures from Randy and Disney so I can post them. I loved my wedding, but since it was so small pretty much everyone at the wedding was in the wedding! :lmao: DH (it's so fun to say that instead of DF!) Anyway... DH's aunt took a few pictures but no one is looking and they have a time stamp at the bottom. I dont like them- so I think I am going to wait for the real things! Although it is DRIVING ME CRAZY! I CANT WAIT TO SEE THEM!!!

Here are my vendor reviews awhile:

Planner- Amy A+
I absolutely LOVED Amy! She was very kind and helpful and always available to answer my questions. Amy always got back to be about any questions the same day, unless she was out of the office for a wedding, and in that case, she got back to me as soon as she was back in! On the day of my wedding I felt like I already knew Amy. Even though things were a little stressful (i'll tell you about why in a later post) and we were running behind schedule , Amy was very calm and laid back and made me feel like I had all the time in the world. On the day of, she was working with Juliana who was also very nice and very helpful. I really didnt have to lift a finger on my wedding day, and felt very assured that it was all in good hands with Amy.

Photography-Randy Chapman A+
Randy was GREAT! (Just like everyone said he would be). Randy came on time, actually really early to Old Key West. He was really easy to work with. Every picture I wanted to get, he took. And even though I havent gotten the pictures back yet, I still gave Randy a great review! I CANT WAIT FOR MY PICS. Did I mention that yet?

Make-Up/Hair Patricia LeJeune A+
I loved Patricia Lejeune! She was really nice and fun to work with. She and Nicole (I'm pretty sure) came right on time and were very friendly. They did an AMAZING JOB- WE LOVED THEM.

Disney Photography- Joe A+
I can't wait to see the pictures that Joe took either! He was very friendly and he worked really well with Randy.

Disney Floral- Rosie A
I love Rosie! She was really friendly and easy to work with. I got everything that I asked for at the ceremony and reception. The only reason that I am giving an A and not an A+ is because all of the bouquets had a little brown on all of them- i'm not sure if they had been left out too long or the fridge was too cold. It wasnt horribly noticeable, and I still think they did an amazing job!

St. James Room A++
I promised myself that I wasnt going to go crazy with the +++'s but I can't help it with the St. James room! It was beautiful! The centerpieces along my roman-style table, the food and the presentation was gorgeous!! Everyone is still talking about it! We HIGHLY recommend it!!!

Rev. Jack Day A+
Rev. Jack was great! He was adorable, and funny. He kept everyone feeling very calm and smiling. He has a great sense of humor, and you immediately makes you feel like you have known him your whole life! I was worried that he would mispronounce Rashad's name, because a lot of people do- but he said it correctly, and more importantly, he double checked with Rashad just to be safe. I have to say- we highly recommend Rev. Jack!
More info and hopefully some pictures will be coming soon!

OH BOY! I am just posting to relieve some stress here! We had booked a woman from my parent's church to cater our home reception on Friday! But unfortunately we got a call today that she is sick and unable to cater. Now we are stressing out a little bit!:scared1:There are about 70 people coming to my parents house on Friday, and we were really relying on her to really keep the party going! YIKES YIKES YIKES! it's a little stressful! We are just hoping we can figure out a game plan to make this party run smoothly- i might be doing a lot of late night cooking this week! (BRING ON THE CAFFINE!)

I saw your shot on the POTD thread and had to come check it out. I love that you had a different stone besides a diamond in your e-ring. I have a sapphire in mine, so I am always drawn to different stones by other brides.

Your pictures from Randy so far are fantastic; my favorites so far are the two of you and DH on the beach. Looking forward to reading more about your wedding and to seeing the rest of your PJ.

Well I am having a hard time getting some of the pictures from our trip, so I thought i would jump to my home reception- and then hopefully get a chance to post some Disney/Wedding stuff in the upcoming days!

My wedding was October 8, 2009. My home reception was October 23, 2009. Let's start with WHAT IN GOD'S NAME WAS I THINKING? :rotfl: Due to some family issues we planned this party so close to our wedding so that we could accommodate a family member with health issues who had a surgery around Halloween, so we were hoping he would be able to come. Unfortunately that was not the case, but we still managed (SOMEHOW) to get everything done in a very short amount of time.

My original idea for the home reception was something casual (think paper plates), a drop i- so people could talk and see the wedding pictures. But my mom really wanted it to be something special so she went ABOVE and BEYOND!!! Here are some pictures of how amazing everything looked! I love Autumn, so we went with a fall-color scheme!
http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/anotherscarecrow-1.jpghttp://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/centerpieces.jpghttp://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/frontporchdetails-1.jpghttp://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/nexttogarage.jpghttp://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/scarecrowpic.jpg

The only other snafu was that the caterer got sick the week of our wedding and had to be hospitalized. My poor mother literally lost a lot of sleep over this. Fortunately the woman was able to have her family members fill in and cook some of the food and it all worked out in the end. Here is a picture of the buffets (one of hot food, the other is assorted desserts)
http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/IMG_1285.jpghttp://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/IMG_1291.jpg
My DH (it's so fun to say that) is obsessed with bacon- when he told me he wanted to make bacon cupcakes and chocolate covered bacon for the reception- i was MORE than RELUCTANT! But I was wrong!! Unbelievably it was the hit of the party! Here's a picture (it looks a little like poop). http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/chocolatebacon.jpg

We also had a candy bar as our favor!http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/IMG_1283.jpg

It was an AMAZING night! I am so glad I had it to share with my closest family and friends- and one of the coolest gifts anyone has ever gotten, my friend, Hart wrote us a song and played it for everyone at the reception! http://i688.photobucket.com/albums/vv250/STEPH13162/hartsserenade.jpg

Your wedding pictures are gorgeous! Can't wait to see more.

Your home reception looks like it was a lot of fun, I'm glad to hear that everything worked out with the food. I just saw something on the Food Network about a chocolate company that makes bacon chocolate bars, too funny!

I love your at home reception, or the pics at least! It looked amazing. Your mom did awesome! Your ring is to die for! I'm glad you all had a great wedding!

Oh what was the date you got married? My DH and I got married 9.27.09 at SeaBreeze Point ... maybe we were there near the same time? How cool!! I liked seeing your at home reception pics, I might try and copy this fall for our first anniversary! Way cute ideas. :-)

And talk about parallel universes ... my DH is an x-ray tech as well, and I teach 3 and 4 year old autistic kids - love my little darlins - (working on getting my certificate while working with a great master teacher). How cool! Only we are in the midwest.

Post more pics if you have them, I'd love to see them! I enjoyed reading your thread!

I hope that you do not mind me asking but what was the fee that Rev Jack Day charged? I am in the process of planning a Disney Wedding and I am trying to figure out what the costs will be. thanks! love the pics!

St. James Room A++
I promised myself that I wasnt going to go crazy with the +++'s but I can't help it with the St.
