Question of the Day. (Again, thanks Kathy)
Where is your favorite character meal?
My answer: I've only been to one, so Parrot Cay on the Magic. :)
Character Meals have been a sore spot with me for years. When Stuart was about 6-9 mos old we went to Ariels Grotto in DCA. I didn't know it was a character meal (actually at that time I didn't even know what a character meal was) I thought it was wonderful! The characters marched be the table and took pictures with us. They held a grand parade with all the children in the room. And at the end of the meal, Stuart was getting antsy to get out oof the high chair, I placed him on the floor while I awaited the bill. Minnie came by, sat down next to him and played with him for a LONG time. I was thrilled. So when he was older and could really enjoy the meal we went to Goofy's Kitchen in DLH. We were completely ignored. years later I decided to give it another try and again, it was disappointing. Last time I went to WDW I didn't even schedule any character meals. I was perfectly happy about that decision. This time in WDW I wanted to do something different, I scheduled two of the and both of them were FANTASTIC! We went to Chef Mickey's and the Princess Breakfast at Akershus. WOW, the characters in Orlando really must come down to Anaheim and teach the California team a thing or two. I've posted some video on YouTube of the kids interacting with the characters.

Yes, if she spent the whole 6 weeks with him, I could understand and yes she was there at the end but the first 4 weeks she barely got to be with him. They had a one-on-one date in the tent but that's it. Every other time she was vying for his attention with 5-6 other girls. So really, they only started REALLY dating like a normal relationship when they got to New Zealand.
Well, 5 or 6 girls for 4 weeks is a little better than the dozens of random people in a bar for one night. He did get to know her a little more everyday, granted not one-on-one.
Not sure when they were in New Zealand, but they would see each other every week almost from the time the show stopped taping until the final show, so enough time to get to know a person I guess. Not me though (I took 3 years to get engaged and almost 2 more to get married). Figure, a person could meet someone in a bar tonight and be engaged by the end of the month. It happens. Whether it lasts is a different story.

Yeah, but there's no way I am doing that again! It was a huge pain to haul through 3 airports (Calgary, Chicago and then Orlando) and she doesn't even like sitting in her chair in the car here. I plan on buying the CARES belt so that she can sit in the seat, which I think she will like much better than being stuck in that chair :scared: Plus this chair is way bigger than her baby one that we had last time!
We would put the car seat on the stroller and push it through the airport (DS would walk or we had our backpack carrier - a really nice Baby Trend that was compact but supportive). We'd gate checked the stroller then so it was there when we got off the plane at our final destination and we could put the seat on that again. It would only be the connecting airport that we'd have to move the seat (I'd just put the straps on like a backpack and carry it that way). You could actually "backpack" the car seat and use the stroller in the departure and landing airports.
With the toddler seat, I did find a trick to get it secured easier. You have to turn the buckler 1/2 turn so that it faces the seat. Otherwise, it is a "B" to get it unhooked. :thumbsup2

Any plans made for October other than the cruise itself? Did you get air yet?

Here's our Princess Breakfast. Leah was a bit star struck and couldn't talk very much with the Princesses. Stuart on the other hand was a chatter box. (He griped the whole way to the breakfast saying that it was just for girls) Turns out he liked the Princessess. And if you look closely, I think he liked Jasmine a bit too much!

Yeah, I got my air. I was very excited about that. I was sweating it out because I was seeing some pretty high prices but then it dipped down about a $100 per ticket so I bought. I probably could have gotten cheaper by waiting longer but I figured "A bird in the hand...."
I just found out, I wish I had known this on our last cruise, that you can book Palos for a dinner AND a brunch AND a tea. I thought only one ressie to a customer so we only did that brunch. (in fact, I thought I had to give up my dinner ressie to get that brunch and the CM didn't even correct me!) So I'm happy about that.
I need to spend some time today looking about at the ports of call for excursion info. I think that we want to go the the beach on St John. I believe it was you, Jeff, that sold me on it.
I've been spending most of my days off this week looking up info on the DVC. I'm trying to decide if I want to buy in or not. I can get SSR for about $68 pp and with the new treehouses coming online, it is VERY attractive for me.
BTW, Has anyone noticed that the Cat 12's are sold out for our cruise. Looks good for at least a few upgrades.

So it is not Bernie, Nancy G, or Mimi.
I can only think of two other people and my first guess would be Paige.
Second guess (which is actually my 4th) would be Cass.
But I'm thinking Paige.
Paige is not correct :(
Cass is correct.
I'm not sure how many guesses you're allowed in one turn though ;) But you should post the next one to keep this going.

Not to jump in to Steve and Jeff's discussion, but I was thrilled when I saw that Delta lowered the price from Bradley (Hartford) to MCO. It is now priced at $199.
I was going to try booking a refundable ticket today using my SkyMiles, but I only have enough miles for a non refundable ticket. I will just wait. Looking at the seat map, there are only a few seats taken on the flight anyway.

It is brutal! It's not really practical to be engaged to someone after only 6 weeks. If they had a whole 6 weeks together then maybe but the first 4 weeks, they barely get to be with the guy and it's often with other girls  No thanks :scared:
But it sure makes for some damn good TV sometimes :happytv:
I guess if people are stupid enough to sign on for something like that they deserve whatever they get!
In your context, I can certainly understand how this would make for good TV!

The Cat 6's are GTY, so those look booked. Wonder if the 6's will get 4's or 5's. Not sure how the 8's and 9's look. When we get closer, I'll check the rooms in each category like I did for the KK. It is a long process, but I can check every room to see if it comes up as available. It will give us a good idea how full the ship is too. I won't do that until probably inside the 75 day mark.

American had dropped fares from O'Hare and Delta had good price, but they connect, from Milwaukee.
I think the airlines will be dropping their prices. People aren't booking too far out right now. You may see a sale in early summer. Seems they usually run one then, but the way things are, sales can pop up at any time.

$68 per point? Is that through resale? I would think that would get taken by DVC through ROFR. $86 per point maybe not.
Agreed that $68 was the bottom of the spread that I saw. The actual amount were bet. $68 and $73 for contracts with very few 2009 points remaining. Those contracts with lots of points would go as high as $75 to $77 pp. Since most of the contracts were in that range, I figured that ROFR wouldn't be a problem. Of course Disney may want to snag up a few of those lower priced ones in order to resell to DVC members wanting to take advantage of the new treehouses. Later this year I'm going to come into about $13,000 and I'm thinking of buying in. I really didn't want to carry a loan for DVC, it didn't make a lot of sense for me. but If I can pay cash... it becomes more economical.

$13,000 - you might be able to get one right form DVC while cruising in October depending on how bad they need sales and the deals they are offering. If that is what you want to spend it on, I think you will be happy with what you probably will get as an offer at that time.
Good for you.
If I get one, I'm only looking for around 75 points (or less). I don't need a full contract, just enough for a short vacation each year. I would look at one of the properties that expires in the 2050's though. Figure I'll leave it to DS since I will be dead by then.

Hi Steve!
BTW - thanks for your DL advice last December - we had a really good time :)
I'm debating Trunk Bay in St. John's also, although the only DCL excursion I see is a snorkel one. Did you find another one?
Glad you had a great time.
As far as St John goes. I'm not sure that I'm going to do an excursion. I love hanging at the beaches so much I may just do that. I'll hone my Sand Castle techniques.
I wish we could say the same:sad1: - I doubt we'll be doing another disney cruise for quite a while:sad2:
I would have said the same thing, except a bunch of nurses at work want me to arrange a group cruise.
Figure I'll leave it to DS since I will be dead by then.
that's about the time I'll have the money to spend, so I'll certainly wait until I see the perks that the DVC people give up on the cruise before I buy. Lots of 75pt contracts on at the timeshare store but they usually go for a premium. seems that the smaller contracts outsell the larger ones.
Ok, who said this?
Jeff, thanks for starting up round #4 of "STOP THE MADNESS!!!"

American had dropped fares from O'Hare and Delta had good price, but they connect, from Milwaukee.
I think the airlines will be dropping their prices. People aren't booking too far out right now. You may see a sale in early summer. Seems they usually run one then, but the way things are, sales can pop up at any time.
Good luck.
These are direct flights from Bradley. Times are decent as well. I think Southwest and Delta are the only direct flights from Bradley to MCO.

I was hoping DCL would have a "beach break" excursion for St. John...I'm just nervous about not getting back to the ship if I'm not with an excursion.

That's what we did for the Pirate picture on the Member Cruise - we had the photographer meet us in front of Triton's between early & late dinner. Worked out just fine.
Its absolutely bucketing it down (you use that phrase right?) tonight - anyone know how to build an ark?:confused3 :rotfl:

robin and i were riding wedway last wed. the ride broke down. (remember how they used to announce "its the transportation system that never stops")
well, it did. well all week we had been taking our own pics, you know, i hold the camera out with my arm and snap a photo of just the 2 of us.
since the ride was stopped, we decided to snap a photo. we move around to pose and she knocks my dvc hat off my head onto the track behind us!!!
:sad2: well i had to get it. so i jumped out, she was laughing so hard. we thought for sure the ride would restart as i retrieved the hat, but it didnt.
they kept announcing, "please remain seated".:rolleyes1 :guilty:
so after a while a castmember came around to walk us off the ride. (free backstage disney tour):rotfl:
his name was jason. we were the first ones he came to and said" follow me out and heres a couple of fastpasses for your trouble". cool.:woohoo:
so the next car he tells" get in line behind these people and follow us out and we'll have something for you on your way out"
right away i told those folks" jason says free annual passes for your trouble"

My father is a retired chef of police and MP. :cool2: He checked out both lots a couple years ago and found that the parking lot at the port was more secure. The security cameras at the port are a better resolution and the lot perameter was more secure. That is the reason not because we had heard of anything happening. Here's our Princess Breakfast. Leah was a bit star struck and couldn't talk very much with the Princesses. Stuart on the other hand was a chatter box. A married couple went to the hospital to have their baby delivered.
Upon their arrival, the doctor said that the hospital was testing an amazing new high-tech machine that would transfer a portion of the mother's labor pain to the baby's father.
He asked if they were interested, Both said they were very much in favor of it.
The doctor set the pain transfer to 10 percent for starters, explaining that even 10 percent was probably more pain than the father had ever experienced before.
But as the labor progressed, the husband felt fine and asked the doctor to go ahead and kick it up a notch.
The doctor then adjusted the machine to 20 percent pain transfer.
The husband was still feeling fine. The doctor then checked the husband's blood pressure and was amazed at how well he was doing.
At this point they decided to try for 50 percent.
The husband continued to feel quite well. Since the pain transfer was obviously helping the wife considerably, the husband encouraged the doctor to transfer ALL the pain to him.
The wife delivered a healthy baby with virtually no pain, and the husband had experienced none.
She and her husband were ecstatic.
When they got home they found the UPS man dead on the porch.

Plus you're allowed to stand up or sit down and they serve cocktails! Now that's my kind of a ride! :rotfl2:

what are the chances of getting Dawg to walk on the ship this way? That would be too funny.
Do you think they'd let him even on the ship?

Ooohhh....this is a tough one. There are so many "must" rides at Disney!
I am going to say Peter Pan's Flight at DL....

Oh my god - thats fantastic! - I have always thought that Goofy is the best character to interact with. He always messes with Ellis' hat etc, I have some lovely photos of Goofy and Ellis
Did you notice that that interaction was longer than all the others put together at your character brekkie!
Yes, every time we saw Goofy he was longer than the others. The Kids really got excited when we'd see him.
Steve, the video with Goofy and the kids was really good!!! :thumbsup2
Thanks. Laura got that one, I'm glad she did!

My fav is POTC in DL. I really can't ride that one enough.
Great video clips Steve! Loved Stuart's reaction to Jasmine. :lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I think somone's in L O V E ! :rolleyes1
I never noticed it when I was taking the video, but later when I was watching it, I couldn't help but realize that Stuart couldn't keep his eyes on her face while talking. My mom said that he was truly his grandfathers' grandson (Stuart was named after my dad).
Steve, love the pics. I see in one of them you were at the pool at POFQ. Did you stay there your whole trip? How did you like it? We stayed there on our honeymoon and 4 other times. I think we've now been in every building there except 4 and 5 (although our first room on our honeymoon was in Bldg 4, but it faced where the CMs got dropped off, so we asked to be switched).
Actually we were staying at Riverside. But the Pool was being refurbed so we were allowed to go the POFQ for swimming. Very pretty hotel.

Mine would have to be Pirates of the Caribbean. I absolutely love that ride and my trip to WDW is not offically started until I ride it. I love everything about it. The queue theming, the ride itself, the drop, the ship/fort battle scene.
I can't wait...I will be riding it around 4:10 PM on 10/31/09!

Cass, do they ever run sales out of your area? How many airlines service MCO from there? Any Canadian airlines fly non-stop?
We do get seat sales here but not like you guys get...prices go from $800-900 down to $500-600.
Of all the times we flew down to MCO, we've never paid less than $505 CDN.
Westjet,a Canadian airline used to offer a direct flight but not any more :sad1: They offer connecting flights through Toronto but are really crappy times! Air Canada only offers crappy flights through Toronto (leaving here at 11pm and arriving at MCO at 11am the next day :scared1: )
That leaves us US airlines: American Airlines, United, US Airways, Delta AmericaWest and Continental. I like to book United because they go through Denver and have the best flight times. :thumbsup2

Hey Chris - did you ever get your laptop back? I'm wondering how you made out with Office 2007 - our desktop guys are now telling us that we need to convert by March 31st :scared1:
Not yet...I hope to have it back soon.
I do have Office 2007 on my personal laptop, but never use it. I did use it this past Sunday for Powerpoint and did have a few problems early on finding my way around. I ended up enjoying the setup and graphics for PowerPoint.

Thanks. I guess I don't understand why Microsoft feels the need to move things around between releases of their software. One of the things I love about Apple is that all of their stuff, MacBook/iPhone/iPods all work the same way and all of the keys mean the same thing everywhere!
I have to do a Live Meeting with a Power Point presentation for a customer next week, so I'm thinking I want to wait until after that is over to convert :thumbsup2

I would love if the Army switched to Mac's/Apple, but we are locked in to IBM/Lenovo.

Travelling around the Blue Bayou is absolutely beautiful. There is nothing like it in all of WDW. The flumes in POTC, while mild seem to add to the feeling of travelling to a different time.
Thanks for the explanation - yet another reason I need to get myself out to DL!
I got the idea to beg off the kids when I was resting on a stoop. Laura was taking a BUNCH of pics at the backlot.
So, how'd that work out for you? Did any passersby make a donation? :lmao: I bet if you had the kids hold the hat, you would have made out better. ;)
