I have been checking the prices on Alamo for our 4/18 trip to WDW. They have come down to about $350 for the week......?????? :confused3 I was able to pay only $210 last year during the same time and with the economy in the toilet I would think that they would charge at least the same as last year. We love the ability to walk off the plane to our car and would not consider renting off site-- but would love a discount code or idea

I agree. I have been checking for our May trip for awhile now and the prices are absolutely ridiculous! I have NEVER paid more than $200 for a week long mid-size SUV rental and now they are almost double:confused3

I can't figure out why they are so high....we will NOT be renting a car if the prices don't come down!

I use the Walmart Code (for any customers) 430710 and it always seems to give me a better price (plus free additional driver & unlimited miles) - also click on their special $25 off for weekly and then add the Walmart to Corp. ID section. I was able to reserve an SUV out of Buffalo for Mar. 20 (we're driving down) for a week for $122 & we added two days for $30/day - so $197 for nine days :cool1: Reserved back in December though, but was able to modify yesterday and add the two days without losing my original rate. When I went online to try the same dates and current codes, it came out to $397! Just fool around with the codes and pick-up times, you'd be surprised. Also check mousesavers.com for current deals on rentals.
Happy travels!

It's Easter! Which was at a different time last year.

I notice the same thing for our May trip. In previous years, I always paid under $200 for a mid size SUV. And, the prices (although fluctuated) were always reasonable. I would always grab a great rate at some point. This year, I locked in early ($300 for 9 days) but i'm amazed at how high that same rental is pricing if I were to book now. I use Costco's code and $25 ecoupon, but I've checked other codes as well.

I realize they need to charge more - but I'm stunned at how much more their rates are this year compared to the past 5 trips I've taken.

The rental car agencies, nationally, have done a very good job (perhaps too good of a job) of trimming their fleet sizes---they've gotten smaller faster than demand has fallen, and so prices have gone up.

This isn't just orlando. I was just on another board that was mentioning high prices in lots of tourist destinations.

ive been actively looking for June/July ressie since January & it's been consistently high (anywhere from $400 to $600:eek: ), with exception of a few weeks ago when Alamo, National & Budget dipped dramatically:woohoo:

best i have now is approx $200 for midsize car 9 nights over July 4th (yes i did post my 'finds' here as to code/coupon) I can live with current, still hope to see a another drop though before then.

my point, if saving a couple hundred $s is important enough to u, u'll dig ur heels in & make the time to re-check often:thumbsup2

The best rate for 8 days we have so far is $308 for Memorial week in May. Using an Entertainment coupon. Last year for two weeks at the same time period we paid less.

Rows and rows of cars to choose from, again, last night.
I rented again from Alamo, still high but $200. less then National. Spoke to a young man in the rental area, he said no one is renting, everyone is using the "Disney Express" his words. He went on to say that they are even losing business travelers, some companies don't want to pay the high prices either.

I can understand why people are using DME with the rental prices the way they are. Many people would rent for the convenience, though now it appears that the convenience isn't worth the high rental rates.

We have a rental for 4/9-16 with National for 170.00 midsize. Renting from ccc return at mco. (We'll use dme and pick up our next day - we did this our last trip and it worked well.) The ccc and dolphin had better rates than mco. National better than alamo. I used the costco code but walmart codes worked also.

Last year, my MLK minivan rental was cheaper than my this year's week after MLK regular car.

If you are getting rental for mairport most likely you are flying in. Try using your airlines website. We are flying in June on Southwest and got 2 weeks (2nd car catagory) for $338.

I've been looking for a car in October and the rates are really high. Nothing like what we paid for back in 2008.

Rates are high. We rented in January and the rate hardly ever came down. For 1 week we paid $175. That was really high, but I was happy because it was double several weeks earlier. First off, you need to forget about the wonderful rates we USE to get and I've gotten a 2 week rental for that same price in the past. If you see a base week for at least $150, grab it. Because It's not been any lower at all in 2009. Secondly, you have to think outside the box. I just made my May ressie and the prices picking up at CCC are much cheaper than MCO. It's cheaper to rent a car to drive to CCC and pick up your rental. If you pickup and drop off at CCC, you can get a minivan or SUV for $199 a week, plus using code 5007125, will get you another 10% off, plus NF1982JDD will take another $30 off. And if you see rates drop, even if they are higher than in the past, you need to reserve them because they can go higher instead of lower. I keep hoping that the rates will drop, but it didn't happen for us during our January rental, so I'm having to think outside the box and strategize.
