Came back from my SIL this evening to find that my house has been broken into and downstairs trashed, Banana thrown around everywhere tables and chairs overturned, dvds stamped on etc.

Police have just left they reckon it is Kids in gangs getting there kicks as we dont thing they have stolen anything just left a trail of destruction . My house is a mess:sad2: cant understand why anyone will do this :confused3

Socco are coming tomorrow to get prints and I am having to keep have eaten bananas in the frige until then and we cant use any of our dining room chairs as they are covered in foot prints:confused:

the poor policemen even said that it is too easy for the criminals as magistrates dont really understand the effects this sort of thing has on peoples lives so hand out stupid sentances

I am so angry, upset, gutted, furious and its going to take ages to feel safe in my own home:sad1:

Oh no! That's horrid! I hope they catch the little bleepers. Are you sure nothing was stolen?? How odd! If they are happy to stamp on DVD's why didn't they just steal them?

Hope you can put it behind you sooner than later. We were burgled about 17 years ago, took Karen about 5 years before she would sleep in the house without me, which is difficult when I leave at 3:30am some mornings.
With ours they went upstairs took jewlery(Her Grans necklace +lots more) did a weird thing by taking out our wedding photos and laying one on our bed.
I now know who did ours, goes in prison for the winter back out in summer, he knows the system inside out. Have friends that will make sure he never does it again but that would make me worse than him however tempting it is.
Hope you can get over it quickly.

Rachel, I am so sorry this has happened to you. I can't say that I know how you feel because we've (touch wood) never been in that position but I can imagine that it is devastating.

I do have to disagree with this statement though:

the poor policemen even said that it is too easy for the criminals as magistrates dont really understand the effects this sort of thing has on peoples lives so hand out stupid sentances

My boss is a magistrate and it's not the case that they don't understand the effects it has on people, rather that they are limited to what punishments/sentences they can give. I'm not saying that the scum who did this don't deserve a hefty sentence if they get caught but the sad truth is that our justice system is rather lenient and they probably will get away with it, particularly if they are juveniles.

I hope you can start getting back to normal soon

I dont think all magistrates are the same, it was just a shock to hear the police saying such terrible things about them his excact words were " magistrates are all sherry drinking idiots who are not in touch with the real world" I dont belive this for one second and think as with all of society some are better than others. its just sad that this whole system seems to be useless and the criminals know it. I think the policeofficers that came to our house last night were overworked and dissilusioned, we were crime no 1009 of the day.

So sorry to hear of your troubles.

Having been through it twice myself, you do get over it - just go with your instincts . . . and trust no-one.

I hope you get your house back together soon.

Its disgusting,I felt terror for about 6 months and could not sleep. I am so sorry, just posted a story about my aunt and uncle, I dont even think the criminals understand the terror they cause!! Although prob wouldnt care if they did.

I'm sorry to hear your news.
Unfortuately this is the way - assuming it is kids - that this country is going. The people who do this have no regard at all for anyone else and just do what they want to do.

I have dealt with my fair share of burglary victims - it is the "simple" violation that is enough - you could understand if they broke in and actually stole things, but to "just" trash the place seems so completely pointless.

My advice would be to stay strong and positive - be wary for the next few weeks, and offenders often revisit the scene to steal the stuff replaced on the insurance - but try to get back to "normal" or a new kind of normal as soon as you can.
You can get crime prevention advice from your local police office - they should have a "specialist" on the subject who can advise you on alarms, door locks etc

If you live the rest of your life fearing the worst then the offenders will have one.. DO NOT LET THEM GET THE BETTER OF YOU.
No-one has the right to make you feel unsafe in your own home - take control of the situation and MAKE yourself feel positive.
I'm not saying it will be easy, you would expect to feel unsetttled for some time.
When I speak to victims my advice (whether they take it is up to them) is to learn to deal with it, accept something horrible has happened, and then put the experience away in a "mental box at the back of the cupboard" - you know the box is there and you know what's in the box, but it doesnt affect your daily life. You can get the box out as often as you need to, but eventually the box will get put, subconciously(sp?) in the loft, and then thrown out with the rubbish.

I wish you all the best  and remember - do NOT let these little whatsits get the better of you.:thumbsup2

(PS You would not want to hear my views of the courts system... (dealing with them on a daily basis) a week wouldnt be long enough....)
