We stayed at the Royal Pacific the second year it was opened. The room was not clean, the food mediocre and the management, well, just out of school. The setting and location were nice - Just hope it's gotten a bit better.

That's a shame :sad2: that your first visit wasn't as good as it could have been. I hope you will give the RPR another chance and not let that one & only visit keep you away. We have stayed at the RPR four times now and have never had a problem. This year we are staying at the PBH and I hope we will like it as much as we like the RPR.

Hi NH, I am originally from Manchester, moved to TN 8 years ago, still miss home( even the snow)
Back to the post, we stayed at PBH concierge once in 2005 and had a horrible experience, it was our one and olny time venturing off WDW property, very open to trying something new, first class. Someone had smoked profusely in our room ( smelled like they had partied) my husband has asthma, they refused to move us, siad there was nothing available, finally 8 hours later, brought up one of those machines to help with the odor, and just dropped it in our room while we were out to eat didn't even start it up. We complained to a manager the next day who moved us to a handicapped accessible room with no view, no compensation, then the rest of our trip they kept kicking us out of the concierge lounge ( even though we paid that rate and were told we had the access) because our room # didn't match ( very embarrassing each time):sad2: . I complained when we were there and when we got back, with nothing but a sorry, hope you try us agin email. The answer is never, I am back to WDW to stay. The only worthwhile thing was the FOTL benefit.

They opened that hotel 7 years ago, 2002.
if you went in 2003, a lot has changed since then.
there were a lot of issues when they first opened but eventually, most things were cleared up.
the last time i stayed at RPH was 3 years back and have a ressie for it again later this year.
if you have plans to stay there again, i do hope it is better for you.

I have had equally bad service at WDW as well but I sure am glad I decided to return! Now that I spend almost equal time at each resort destination per year, I must say I get better customer service at Universl resorts. I am not saying service is bad at WDW resorts, just better at US Loews resorts. JMHO

we stayed at RPR in october 08 and we didnt like it at all - we normally stay at HRH and found the rooms to be alot smaller it felt like we were on top of each other - we had ordered room service one afternoon and they tray remained in the hallway until the next afternoon even though we had evening turndown service - we are going back for HHN again this year and back to the HRH for us - i want to try PBH but cant swing it this year maybe next year

This year will be our 4th stay at RPR, and cannot fault anything about the resort.
Management and staff are all very friendly, and nothing is to much trouble.
We are also going back to PBH for the last week of our stay, its also a lovely resort, the SS rate was not available at RPR for that week , so we took it as it was at PBH.

You'll like it better :rolleyes1 DH always said he didn't want to stay at PBH strictly because of the distance (in comparison to the other 2 hotels). Well, after our stays last year there, he proclaimed it his fave now.
We've stayed at all 3 also.... We love the PBH, then RPR, then HRH. It's really a matter of personal preference I think. But, most stay onsite for the FOTL privelege anyhow, so I don't think it really matters which hotel (unless you DO spend a lot of time in your room).

We love RPR. The club level is fantastic. :woohoo: The FOTL makes it easy to stay in bed in the morning and not rush around. This is the second time we have stayed here and have only had one issue...Poor service at Jake's Restaurant. :confused3
We are DVC members but try to get visit Universal every few years. Love those roller Coasters:eek:
Also a big hello to all granite staters.;) And a special hello to the long time Disboard lurker but now poster Belle67. You finally are one of us!: up2

I find it odd that you would post about an experience that happened 5 years ago:confused: Many new service businesses (hotels, restaurants, etc.) take a little while to get the "kinks" out. From the mostly excellent reviews on RPR on these forums, trip advisor, etc. RPR seems to be loved by many. It would be a shame not to give it another try after so many years. Again, I guess I just don't understand the reason for the post....I'm a little dense sometimes
Just got back from the RPR yesterday and I must say that we had no difficulties. We got our King Suite upgrade as promised with our free internet, our credit (which turned out to give us a dinner at Islands, one breakfast and pizza at Sal's deli in Portofino.) We got great service, great turn down service and the room was clean. The pullout bed was not the comfiest but they brought up 4 extra blankets to help with the padding. Our room was ready when we got there and we received an extension on our check-out.
I would not hesitate to stay there again.

So, with the platinum credit, you DON'T have to use it at the hotel you are STAYING at?? You can use any onsite hotel restaurant?

you can use the credit at pbh or rph.
i called loews last night and asked where the $100 credit would be allowed for food and drink.

That was my question at check-in and I was assured that I could use it at both hotels. However, when I got my bill, the Sal's deli amounts were not taken off so I went to the front desk. I knew that I had gone over the $100 amount with the Sal's Deli but I knew I was under the amount with just the RPR totals. The girl happily took the entire Sal's Deli amount off for me, giving me a $117 credit. I certainly hadn't asked for them to give me moe than the $100 but they did. I didn't even have to argue the fact about what the other guy told me.

damo, How did the free internet work? do they give you a special code for the whole trip or something you have to enter in each day? We are blue members and booked under the SS rate for the summer and never really take advantage of the Lowes program since we normally book AP discount.

When you hook up to wireless it gives you the option of charging to your credit card or the room. YOu just choose your room and accounting takes those charges off your bill.
We also went to the Blue Man Group ticket office and did get the $44 tickets. It is the annual pass discount that is available until March and the people at the annual pass office should have known that it was available. They said that happens a lot and to just call directly through to them instead of dealing with the other line.

Thanks for the info regarding eating w/ the credit and free internet.
When we were at Loews Phila., I had to call the desk to make sure our room wouldn't be charged either...it wasn't.
It would be nice if they (Loews) would let you know at check-in that the internet works that way...AND about the food/bev credit...we had to ask.

I agree. I had to ask both questions. There should be a little pamphlet about privileges with your check in package.

That would be very embarrasing. However, I am a bit confused about how it could happen. How were you kicked out of the lounge because your room # didn't match?
PBH club is accessed by a separate room key card that they issue you at check-in. Because the PBH club is not on its own floor, many different rooms can be given club access. So, at check-in, you are given a separate "room key" that is just for club access. You put the key card in the door and it opens.
In all the years we have been going, the staff has never asked us our room number as the room number is not on the key card.

:confused3 I don't know why it happened either, we never had never stayed at PBH before or since, it was in 2005, and once they moved our room something messed up our access, and we were hassled every time. I will add we are very low key/low expecatations type of people, I don't complain anywhere I go, we just had a really bad experience.

We were just at RPR last month, our first stay ever at a UO resort. We were just blown away by the place. We love the Poly at WDW, and this reminds us of that, but 30 years newer.
We thought the rooms were very nice (it's just the two of us, so we don't need a ton of room, but had plenty anyway). Had a pool view and could see some of IOA, which was cool. The boat transportation was phenomenal. I don't think we waited more than about 8 minutes our entire trip.
BTW, if you have Captain Bobby, the answers are "to get to the Shell Station to buy Turtle Wax" and "He didn't want to be a hot dog". ;)
The breakfast bar is something I wish was repeated in every hotel I ever stayed at. Yes, it's a little pricey, but I'm willing to pay for the convenience of having a nice light breakfast (rather than some huge plate of eggs and sausage and then jumping right on Hulk). We also ate a lunch at the pool-side bar, which was nothing more fancy than a turkey sammich and fries, but it was absolutely delicious.
The only downside we had (and this is both the resort and the parks) is that I wish they would be a little more forceful with their smoking restrictions. DW has a bad smoke allergy, and I can't tell you how many times we had to make a quick dash out off the beaten path because somebody fired one up right in the middle of a walkway somewhere.
Overall, though, we really fell in love with RPR (the FOTL sure didn't hurt), and can't imagine staying anywhere else the next time we come to UO to stay.
