DISers unite! MAMMOTH MAY MEET Epcot on May 17, 2009!

Hi! I thought I would start a thread on this board to announce that several of us DISers are planning a meet at Epcot at 3pm on Sunday, May 17, 2009 in the France Pavilion near the entrance of the Patisserie. Anyone interested in joining us is welcome! :thumbsup2

Oh, and here's a sidebar for those who are interested. We have some beer connoiseurs in our midst, so some of us are planning to slide over to the Rose & Crown for a pint after our meet, if we can get in. (If they cannot accommodate us, we can always slide over to Norway for a Carlsberg!)

I was planning on a break between our morning at DHS and our dinner ADR at 1900PF/MK plans that night anyway.

Since pastries and beer are perfectly acceptable things to eat/drink right before dinner and won't ruin your appetite ;), and since DHS is practically connected to the France/UK International Gateway by boat, I'm thinking its completely doable. :cool1:

We would love to have you and your DS join us for the meet! That's a great plan about hitting DHS and coming on over to Epcot for an afternoon "snack." It is probably a good thing that Disney doesn't have Guiness as a snack credit or I would use ALL of mine at R&C! I know MaryAZ's DH is a beer guy as well.

I think colinsdad needs to share his spreadsheet with all of us! That sounds like something that would be right up my alley! I used to hate Excel, but I've been working with it at work now for about 6 years and I've gotten to where I use it for EVERYTHING!

Hey Alan,

Just checking the updates and I see you had a question on Photopass shares.

You can find them on the Budget Board mostly. I joined the "The Mickey Mouse Mid May 2009 Photopass Share" myself. This will be my first photopass share.

A share entails a courageous "leader" who will pre-order the photopass for $99. (It costs $125 if you order it at the park). For it to work, the leader recruits up to 8 people to share the costs. The leader sets up the photopass account, and assigns dates for everyone in the group to upload their photopass cards to that account. Everyones trip dates have to be similar (with about 4 weeks) so you can get them all in.

Once all cards are uploaded and edited, the leader orders the CD, Disney mails the photopass (with literally hundreds of pictures on it) back to the leader, who then burns the cd and mails them out to the group.

Its a lot of work for a leader, and obviously some trust is involved as if you upload your photos to someone else's account and never get them, you will lose not just the $15, but the photos too.

I read a tip on the DIS that if you do a share, make sure you ask the photopass photographers for 2 cards at the beginning of your stay. Each time you get a photo taken, give BOTH cards to the photographer. That way you have a back up if there are problems.

There is often a photopass photog in France if Sleeping Beauty or Belle is there. I know we grabbed one once just for some pics in front of the fountain.

Yes...I can be the leader....I would like to limit it to 5 total families, however including me. It will be easier to manage. There are many threads identifying the rules, so I don't think I need to post them here. This PhotoPass share will be for anyone taking a WDW vacation starting no earlier than May 01, and ending no later than May 31. Those that are interested, please PM me, and I will add you to the list.

I think your comment about the design is a good one. If it says DIS, we wouldn't have to worry about using the logo.

If you are facing the front entrance to DHS from the parking lot, the boat from DHS to Epcot is located just to the right. However, I understand that it is as SLOW as Christmas....so make sure to allow plenty of time.

Will do, Rosie. Oh, and about the boat, there is a boat that goes from DHS to the Swan/Dolphin, Boardwalk, Yacht & Beach Club Resorts, and Epcot. From what I understand it is extremely SLOW....but nonetheless if you have time, I think it would be a relaxing trip.

Thanks! Do you think an hour is enough time to get from DHS to EPCOT? I was thinking I would leave DHS at 2pm in order to make it to the Meet by 3pm.

Where do you get the boat from DHS to EPCOT?

I want to know about the boat too!!:worship:

When walking out of the DHS exit, the boat dock is straight ahead and to the left (not to right like the buses).

A lot of people miss this because when taking the bus to DHS or driving then taking the tram, when you arrive you focus your eyes on the DHS gate (which is left) while the boat dock is down the hill a bit on your right.

When leaving DHS, especially if going to the World Showcase in Epcot, if you see a boat coming, or one is at the dock it should be quicker (and a more relaxing ride) because if you take the bus from DHS to EPCOT, you will be dropped off well outside the maingate of EPCOT. Then you have to walk all the way from the bus stop through Epcot to the World Showcase.

The boat will stop 3 times: At the Dolphin/Swan, Beach Club/Yacht Club, and Boardwalk before making it over to the International Gateway which is right between the UK and France Pavillions. We stayed at the Boardwalk our last trip and the circuit takes about 20 minutes once the boat leaves DHS.

When walking out of the DHS exit, the boat dock is straight ahead and to the left (not to right like the buses).

A lot of people miss this because when taking the bus to DHS or driving then taking the tram, when you arrive you focus your eyes on the DHS gate (which is left) while the boat dock is down the hill a bit on your right.

When leaving DHS, especially if going to the World Showcase in Epcot, if you see a boat coming, or one is at the dock it should be quicker (and a more relaxing ride) because if you take the bus from DHS to EPCOT, you will be dropped off well outside the maingate of EPCOT. Then you have to walk all the way from the bus stop through Epcot to the World Showcase.

The boat will stop 3 times: At the Dolphin/Swan, Beach Club/Yacht Club, and Boardwalk before making it over to the International Gateway which is right between the UK and France Pavillions. We stayed at the Boardwalk our last trip and the circuit takes about 20 minutes once the boat leaves DHS.

Okay, I am going to speak with my t-shirt guy this week about possibly having t-shirts made up for our MAMMOTH MAY MEET! The graphic is on the previous page. It will be printed in a black screenprint on a lime green t-shirt. :thumbsup2

(Apparently Walt still gets a royalty anytime anyone attempts to put three circles anywhere NEAR the form of a mouse!!)

Also, a little more bad news. I was apparently WAY too optimistic about the price. The shirts are going to run a little more that I expected, but they are going to be really cool!

NOW, on to the good news. I've put together a NEW design that I actually like better than the original one. Also, I thought it would be neat to list all of the DIS ID names on the back of the shirt. This will add a little more to the cost of the t-shirts, but it will make a nice keepsake!!! And who doesn't like to see their name in print?

Okay, I want to give you all some more options.

I spoke with my friend today who does screenprinting. He thinks if I tell everyone between $12 and $14 per shirt, that should be enough for me to cover his invoice, including sales tax, and enough money to ship to everyone....hopefully by May 1st. SO, that's Plan A right now.

Now...here's Plan B. Another friend of mine was telling me about cafepress.com today. It is a web site that allows you to place your artwork on a variety of different items and they sell them and ship them directly. The prices are a little higher, but the product looks really good. I have set up an online store for our MAMMOTH MAY MEET, with a variety of items that can be purchased: t-shirts, buttons, magnets, even beer steins and thongs!!! :rotfl2: (seriously!)

IF you would like to order any items from that site, they will ship to you directly. I am going to hold off on ordering my t-shirts from the online store. I'd prefer to try to use my local guy. But I DID want to give everyone some options.

For those of you in our PhotoPass Share (At the time there are 4 Familes)... Here is a bit of information copied/modified from another thread:

This process will be the basis for how I will run this....
The Group Administrator (ME) will pre-order the CD (Already Have) so that it will cost $99.00. The Group Administrator will burn the CDs and ship them out as well.

Once the groups are finalized, The Group Administrator will ask that everyone in that group to pay (method to be determined - If PayPal, which is preferred, it will be price plus paypal 3% fee) The price will include shipping as well (USPS Media Mail Estimate of ~$2.50). The Group Administrator will of course get your "confirmed" shipping address via PayPal. The Group Administrator will let everyone know the price up front so that there are no "surprises". The Group Administrator will separate the photos as best as he can, so that the CD's that are mailed to each participant contain only their own photos. Everyone in the group needs to accept the fact that there may be photos that are accidently omited from their CD's or some of your family's photos may accidently wind up on the others.. Because this is a human process, the potential for errors exists... If found, I will of course have the original CD's and can e-mail you the missing photos....O.K.?

Once The Group Administrator gets your information they will post your name on the board. After the Group Administrator figures out the price they will PM everyone. Once The Group Administrator has received the money they will post "Confirmed" by your name. The Photopass account information will be sent to the participants at a later date.

Here is how a photopass share works: (Copied from multiple posts)

Get a photopass card from a photopass photographer when they take your pictures in the parks. Have fun and have lots of photopass photographers take your picture. Each photographer will scan your photopass card to add photos to your photopass card id number. *TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR PHOTOPASS CARDS WITH YOUR OWN CAMERA IN CASE YOU LOSE YOUR PHOTOPASS CARD.

When you get home, rather than create your own Photopass account on the Disney Photopass website, you will use a photopass account that is already created by The Group Administrator.

All the people in your group will add their photopass card IDs to this same account (Username & Password provided upon receipt of funds and everyone's return) on the Disney Photopass website. You can edit your photos there (add borders, crop, etc) and then once everyone in the group has added their photos and edited their pictures, The Group Administrator will finalize the CD(s) for shipping. All the members split the cost evenly.

The cost will decrease with more members in the group.

There is NO LIMIT to how many pictures you can take. If a group has enough pictures to fill more than one CD, Disney will send as many additional CD's as it takes at no extra charge.

The photos will need to be edited by the date we set.

NOTE: Sharing a CD means that strangers (the people within the group) will have a copy of your trip photos. Some people may not be comfortable with that.

IMPORTANT: From the time the first photo is loaded onto the group photopass account you must be done editing, and order the CD within 30 days. So everybody needs to get their photopass IDs added to the account as soon as possible upon their return. The sooner the better, so that everyone can get their CDs ASAP. (Some leaders may chose to assign "load days" for each group member, to avoid confusion, and to have all of a particular family's pictures grouped together.) This works really good. I will probably assign load days.

Because this is a human process, the potential for errors exists... If found, I will of course have the original CD's and can e-mail you the missing photos....O.K.?

Once The Group Administrator gets your information they will post your name on the board. After the Group Administrator figures out the price they will PM everyone. Once The Group Administrator has received the money they will post "Confirmed" by your name. The Photopass account information will be sent to the participants at a later date.

Get a photopass card from a photopass photographer when they take your pictures in the parks. Have fun and have lots of photopass photographers take your picture. Each photographer will scan your photopass card to add photos to your photopass card id number. *TAKE A PICTURE OF YOUR PHOTOPASS CARDS WITH YOUR OWN CAMERA IN CASE YOU LOSE YOUR PHOTOPASS CARD.

When you get home, rather than create your own Photopass account on the Disney Photopass website, you will use a photopass account that is already created by The Group Administrator.

All the people in your group will add their photopass card IDs to this same account (Username & Password provided upon receipt of funds and everyone's return) on the Disney Photopass website. You can edit your photos there (add borders, crop, etc) and then once everyone in the group has added their photos and edited their pictures, The Group Administrator will finalize the CD(s) for shipping. All the members split the cost evenly.

The cost will decrease with more members in the group.

There is NO LIMIT to how many pictures you can take. If a group has enough pictures to fill more than one CD, Disney will send as many additional CD's as it takes at no extra charge.

The photos will need to be edited by the date we set.

NOTE: Sharing a CD means that strangers (the people within the group) will have a copy of your trip photos. Some people may not be comfortable with that.

IMPORTANT: From the time the first photo is loaded onto the group photopass account you must be done editing, and order the CD within 30 days. So everybody needs to get their photopass IDs added to the account as soon as possible upon their return. The sooner the better, so that everyone can get their CDs ASAP. (Some leaders may chose to assign "load days" for each group member, to avoid confusion, and to have all of a particular family's pictures grouped together.) This works really good. I will probably assign load days.

For those of you in our PhotoPass Share (At the time there are 4 Familes)... Here is a bit of information copied/modified from another thread:

This process will be the basis for how I will run this....
The Group Administrator (ME) will pre-order the CD (Already Have) so that it will cost $99.00. The Group Administrator will burn the CDs and ship them out as well.

Okay - let's review. I just want to make sure I've got all the correct information before proceeding. Here are the commitments I currently have listed for the lime green t-shirts:

Yes, they are the basic 100% cotton men's Beefy T's in lime green with black screen. I would say they probably run a little small since they are all-cotton. If you wash them and dry them, they will shrink. Personally, I like to order on the larger side in order to allow for some shrinkage. However, if you don't intend to wear the shirt but this one time only, I would say I would order about what you might regularly wear.

Another option, especially for the ladies, might be to order one of the ladie's shirts from the online store I set up. However, they do not come in lime green....only white. And they are more expensive.

I would say they run about normal, leaning to the smaller side. I think he uses Hanes Beefy Tees. I do know that they will shrink, being 100% cotton. He can do a 3X, but it will cost $3 extra.

They are the new WWYC 2009 Series bills (the others I have are the Mickey 80th Anniversary bills from '08).

Disney Dollars are like my own personal Disney Savings Account. Since I can't spend them anywhere else, I buy them instead of putting money in a piggy bank or in my Savings Account (because I can spend that on anything). At Disney, I use them for all my OOP expenses to keep it off the plastic as much as possible.

And maybe its just me, but I also like spending the money on-site. I get a kick out of paying for my Guinness :drinking1 at the R&C with a Mickey $10. I can't wait to drop some of them at the Meet. :drinking1

Have been on the boards for a while, but only in the Singles threads... didn't realize there were DisMeets elsewhere! I'll be at boardwalk 5/15 - 5/17 for the singles meet. If you don't mind, I'd love to join your meet, too, and have the opportunity to discover others who love Disney as well.

I didn't get Free Dining :lmao: but I did just get some more Disney Dollars for my trip in May.

They are the new WWYC 2009 Series bills (the others I have are the Mickey 80th Anniversary bills from '08).

Disney Dollars are like my own personal Disney Savings Account. Since I can't spend them anywhere else, I buy them instead of putting money in a piggy bank or in my Savings Account (because I can spend that on anything). At Disney, I use them for all my OOP expenses to keep it off the plastic as much as possible.

And maybe its just me, but I also like spending the money on-site. I get a kick out of paying for my Guinness :drinking1 at the R&C with a Mickey $10. I can't wait to drop some of them at the Meet. :drinking1

I'm kinda like you on the Disney Dollars. I got the Disney Visa Card this past year, and since I've gotten it, I've earned something like $77 Disney Dollars! I intend to pay for something cool for the kids with it. (For DD9, we are getting her hair braided at the Grand Floridian. For DS12, he doesn't know it, but we are planning to buy him a soccer jersey in Italy.) If there is anything left over, I'm sure Mickey will be buying a pint at the R&C! :thumbsup2
