The wife and I have finished our planning, except for one area...Downtown Disney. I looked at a few websites and maps, but am at a loss....
Just where is Downtown Disney? All I get is that it's south of MK.
Is it part of the theme parks?
Are tickets/admission needed to go there?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

It is not a theme park --mostly restaurants and shopping that don't require a ticker. It is kind of on the southeast side of the whole property -- busses go there from the resorts; lots of parking for cars. DisneyQuest is there, which is sort of a park that requires an admission ticket -- it is an interactive place, with lots of different "games"/things to do. There's a lot of different stuff -- you might want to search around on DIS to learn more -- if you have some extra time in your WDW trip.

No you do not need a ticket. You would need a ticket for Disney Quest. It is a large area with shops and restaurants, and A movie theater.Cirque Du soleil is also there. We go there all the time when at Disney. On our next trip we are arriving at our hotel around 2, then heading to DTD. We are going to eat At Fulton's Crab House, the see Cirque Du Soleil at 6:30, then have a sundae at Ghiridellis. It is just a fun place to go.

It's all of the above, plus a transportation connection hub. If you are at one resort, and need to get to another resort, sometimes DD is a great place to head for that second connection. We used it a couple times on our last trip for only that purpose and it worked pretty well.
We usually plan a half day + one big sitdown meal to spend @ DD during any week long trip. There is excellent shopping, fun stuff (Legoland) and great restaurants.
