My all time favorite movie is Gone With the Wind, and I've always wanted to be Scarlet O'Hara...........just for a little bit. I've wanted to stand in a baren field, with the wind blowing my long skirt and touseld hair and yell "As God as my witness, I'll never go hungry again"!
Once you see a picture of me, you'll realize that hunger has never been a problem for me.
So, after 2 trips to DisneyWorld with health "issues" and a third trip with possible problems, I have finally had my Scarlet O'Hara moment. I stood on mainstreet facing the castle, baloons bouncing in the wind, raised my fist and cried........."As God as my witness, I'll never be sick in Disney World again!"

Yeah, you should have seen the looks I got.

I'm confused, is this the start of the Prosac pre-sequel report?
I finally got used to the Prosac and you take it away from me? Great, maybe there's a Zoloft report out there that I can ease myself off of these drugs. I know, here's where you say: "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn."

Ok, Cherie, great start, you got us hooked, now, reel us in.

Wow, what a huge response so far. I will try to put in my 2 cents worth and hopefully not spill the beans of any of the suprises we had planned. Cherie took notes to go along with the pictures. We had a lot of fun and will keep all of you posted on what happened. Needless to say we had quite a few of them. It's comming.... be patient.

If you haven't already read my pre trippy....Please Pass the Prozac, I'll give you a little bit about the group of crazies on this vacation.

My name is Winkers, aka Cherie. I have a slight flare for the dramatic. I try to hide it but I'm not very good at it.;) My alter ego, if I had one, would be a Scarlet O'Hara wannabe opera singer. I know....crazy.
I fell head over heels in love with Disney on our first trip to Disneyland 4 years ago.
During our first family trip to DisneyWorld, I ended up visiting a dentist and the second trip involved horrendous back pain and a wheel chair. Good Times. So, like my title said, I was determined to be healthy this trip.

My dh, D.Jay......if anyone deserves a vacation it's him. He has worked full time while going to school full time for the past 3 years.:worship: He knows how to work hard and play hard.
Lucky for me.....and him........he lets me do all the planning and enjoys being along for the ride. We've been married for 16 years, wow, I can't believe that!

Evan, who is 15 is a pretty good mix of our personalities. He's already dreaming of college and serving a 2 year mission when he's 19. He has as much fun in Disney World as the youngest which makes him alot of fun to be with.

Bailie, is 13 going on 30. She is little Miss Sunshine with a chance of thunder. One minute she's hugging Stitch or holding my hand and the next she can't believe her mis fortune of being related to me.

Hunter, is 11 and a comedian. He can make me laugh like no other. There's never a dull moment with him around. He's kinda a Jekyl & Hyde, because one minute he's joking around and the next he's upset because someone isn't following a rule. No one breaks a rule when he's around.

Ethan, is 8 and my baby. I refuse to believe that he's growing up. The flip side of this is that he's spoiled and has me wrapped around his little finger. Evan and Bailie are at his command most of the time too.

Katie, D.Jay's mom,or MIL. She has lived with us for the last 9 years and we are still speaking to eachother.;) We suprised her with this trip for christmas. 99% of the time I get along fine with her, but she has her moments. I'm sure I drive her crazy too.

Don't worry this won't be a report about bashing my mother in law, but there will be a few incidents which for the most part are comical. I always try to see the humor in things and with her around I get alot of practice.

subbing too...I've read your other report so I'm looking forward to this one.
Welcome! I love it when the lurkers post!

So great that Ethan made the front page. Heck, it's great that the show makes the newspaper! At my school, we (the theatre people) are lucky if the show is even mentioned in the school paper. :confused3
You deserve a mom brag!
That's too bad that you don't get much support. The only reason they get it here is there's nothing else going on!

Ok, let's get this puppy rolling.......................

I can't believe I've been home for 12 depressing, disney devoid days. Yeah, I'm in a great mood. Once we were home it was back to the reality of D.Jay being jobles, no income and no more trips in the forseeable future.....Oops, I'm getting ahead of myself.:upsidedow This is sopposed to start at the beginning, right?
I guess I could break with tradition and go from the ending to the beginning, I tend to read magazines that way, but I'm not much of a rule breaker.

I 'm not quite ready to start the first day, gotta upload 5,001 pictures to photobucket, so I'll give you a little sneak peek of what's to come.

During the trip I jotted down different ideas for the Trip Report title. Here they are in no particular order....................

Please keep your hands, arms, & legs inside the ride at all times...with only one set of cheeks showing.

What's more painfull....Brazilian tourist groups or waxes?

Cheerleaders are like mice........if you see 1, you know there's 20 more lurking around the corner

Conquering the world........one bathroom at a time.

As God as my witness, I'll never take my mother in law on vacation again!

The day of departure finally arrived! It had felt like it would never get there. That morning Hunter begged me to let him stay home from school and "help" me pack. But, mean mom that I am, I made him go to school, so he could annoy his teachers with constant talk of the trip.
That's my re-payment for the "projects" that get sent home for him to do and really all they are is busy work for the parents.;) Really, what is it they learn from building a fort out of toothpicks?

Once I got the kids off to school, I was in full on packing mode. I'm a procrastinator so I always pack right before I go somewhere. Suprisingly I had 6 suitcases and 6 carry on's ready to go within the hour.

The original plan was to leave at 3 but Evan and Bailie had play practice so it was 5 before we pulled out of town. In our van we had D.jay, Bailie , Ethan and me along with 14 pieces of luggage!
Mil drove her car with Evan and Hunter. She has this little gps she plugs into her car whenever she goes anywhere. She suggested we follow her to the hotel (we were staying overnight by the airport which is almost 2 hours away), but because we know better..........we told her we'd just meet her there.

I could tell lots of stories about Mil and her driving and getting lost going places she's familiar with.......but I'll be nice.;)

We ended up leaving 20 minutes later than she did and still made it to the hotel before her. As soon as we got out of the cars Hunter told us that because whe was following her gps , they ended up going the wrong way on a very busy one way street.:scared1: Most people would have noticed the street signs, but she'd drive into a lake if that's what that little gprs told her to do.

Anyway, I got us checked in and got the directions to our rooms. Once we got to them I found that they had put us into 2 rooms with only 1 queen size bed. So I had to walk this super long blue corridor that I swear stretches for a mile, back to the front dest to get new rooms.

We got into the right rooms and then headed back down the long blue mile to eat in the hotels restaurant. It was this huge place and we were the only ones there. it was a little odd.

After a nice meal we had just gotten into bed when the phone rings......It's MIL having a total freak out. Once she calmed down enough for me to understand her, she said that their bathroom was flooded. So D.jay headed back to the front desk for another room key and I went to help get their stuff moved.
When I looked in the bathroom there was a little water, but certainly not a flood. Nothing to have gotten so worked up about. It didn't get on anything.

I think I finally got to sleep around midnight. I was so excited, I had a hard time sleeping and I was a little worried because MIL was already getting on my nerves..................................

K. You might not, but I will. Alright not really, but my mother was one who, during winter, forgot to unplug the cord from the car heater, drove all through town, and got mad because no one told her the cord was attached to the car.

The GPS is another story. She uses the GPS during her work, which is fine, but gets lost when the GPS leads her to a road that dead ends. I'm suprised she doesn't yell at the GPS the same way she yelled at the recording at the airport.

My wife was dropping off my mother at an airport, stopped at the curb, and proceeded to unload her things. As she did, a recording came up saying that parking in a certain zone is not permitted. The voice chimed the same message a second time to which she replied in a loud voice( well, really screamed it), "I can't move. I'm late. I can't miss my plane." :scared1: My wife then spoke to my mother saying, "that's a recorded message."

Oh, the fun things that happen in my family.

I spent the night with one eye on the clock and the other closed praying for sleep......it didn't work too well. By 3 I gave up and tried to find something on the **** tube to entertain myself. That didn't work either. I was like a monkey on crack with the remote control. The worst thing was I felt like a cold was setting in.

By 5, I had the troops showered, dressed and in the vehicles, without one fight, complaint, whine, or threat of bodily harm. Normally that would have been a huge accomplishemt that would have won me a Nobel Peace prize or perhaps Secretary of State. Nope.

Behold. The power of going to disney world.:worship:

We got ourselves parked in the ecconomy, way out in the boonies, lot. And started our hike to the terminal in about 15 degree weather. But we were all armed with our light jackets and the knowledge that we would soon be in sunny Florida. Take that freezing north west.

Well, all but one of us was......can you guess who was the dissenter?
I, like a mothr duck, was at the head of our line of 7 and turned around to see MIL wearing her PARKA. I think she missed the memo about Florida being way south of us and not up north near Alaska.
We were all warmed by thoughts of sunshine and magical express, while she was anticipating a trip through frozen tundra on a dog sled.

We got checked in and through security.....again this is amazing to me each time we make it. You never know what's hiding in the recess of an 8 & 11 yr old boys back pack.......
In MIl's effort to remove her parka, shoes ,and get all her stuff ready for security, she ended up several groups behind us.

I took the time to run and get some cold medicine for me and Bailie, she was feeling something too. When I got done with that MIL had finaly made it through security and was in the process of getting her things back together...........this was a warning of things to come.

We were all hungry by this time so we ended up at starbucks for breakfast. The fact that non of us drink coffee is a little funny to me as I sit there reading the menu. I finally just gave up and said what doesn't have coffe in it?

Several muffins, fruit cups, fruity drinks and $42 bucks later, we were on our way to the gate.

When we borded the crop duster that would take us to our connection in SLC. The boys were further back on the plane then the girls. This had rows of 4 seats , 2 on each side. Bailie was next to me by the window and MIL was across the aisle next to a saint of a man.

What took place the next 15 minutes could have come straight from a Jerry Lewis comedy, if Jerry Lewis were a 66 year old woman.

She had this ginormous back pack, carry on thing along with a huge purse, pillow( no not a travel size pillow, a regular size one), blanket (again huge) and her faux fur lined parka.

When she was able she would stand in the aisle unpacking all these things from her swiss army knife of carry-on's. Just when I thought there couldn't possibly be anything else, she'd pull out something like.....her lap top, newspaper, or book.

When someone else would need past her, she would squeeze her self into her seat, elbowing and half sitting on the poor guy next to her. The flight attendant askled her at least twice to hurry, because they were ready to go. I think they were half stunned by the amount of crap this lady had.

Once she had all her neccesities out for the hour and fifteen minute flight, it required a flight attendant and me to hold all her stuff so she could locate the seatbelt. This again ended with the guy getting an elbow or 2 to the ribs.

She finally settled in for the flight with her parka still on, this would be removed 15 minutes into the flight causing more pain to the guy next to her, a blanket on her lap, pillow behind her head, strange corn filled shoulder warmer bag, on her shoulders, lap top turned off, but on her lap, newspaper that would end up causing more pain for the saint next to her, a sudoku book and a novel, along with her drink, fruit cup and other assorted snacks. All this for a short flight.

I sat across the aisle, half mortified and half laughing at the sight. Mostly I was worried, because we only had 20 minutes after we landed untill our next flight departed......

up next......the amazing race.

The only thing I really remember about this part of the trip is seeing my mom as the "last one standing". This usually is not a good thing. At first, I thought the flight attendant was being rude, but then remembered she was talking to my mom. I was glad we were several rows behind her at that time. I do feel really bad for that person that had to sit by her.

Let me explain a little more about my mom. When I was younger, and when she came home, she didn't just sit down. She spread out. I mean everything she had was spread out over the space of 3 to 4 seats. Hence the swiss army back pack. I just hope the guy next to her wasn't too annoyed with all the crap she spread out.:headache:

One my sister in laws was complaining to me once about MIL and all her stuff, when she was there for a visit. She couldn't believe the amout of crap she took with her, as though she were visiting a desserted island. As I mentioned before, I was a little nervous about making our connection in SLC. We only had 20 minutes from the time our flight landed untill our connecting flight departed. We talked to the flight attendant when we got on the plane asking if there was a way to get us off the plane a little faster and they said all they could do was announce that their were some passangers who needed to get to a flight.

This kinda irritated me. I've been on flights before where they asked all of us to remain seated while those who had to get to a flight left first.:confused3 So, as were taxiing to the gate the attendant announced that there were several passangers who had close connections and if you didn't could you please let them go first............that was a joke.

Sine we were up front, Bailie, MIL and I got off fairly quickly. I asked where our connection was and it was in terminal D, we were in B. With about 12 minutes to go!!! I left MIL at the gate to wait for the boys and Bailie and I took off.
I seriously felt like I was in an episode of the amazing race! thank heavens for moving walk ways!:worship: We got there with 5 minutes left....everyone else was on the plane and the attendant asked if I was a "Kendall".....they had been waiting for us.

The boys showed up a few minutes later with , of course, MIL in the rear. We boarded the plane and I was informing D.Jay that I was NOT going to sit next to MIL when he asked me where the blue bag was..................:scared1: crap! I'd left the bag with all our swimsuits on the last plane. Just as I was about to ask the attendant if they could call and let them know I had left something another attendant asked if this was my bag! The other crew had found it and sent it over!:cloud9:

We got ourselves situated with D.Jay, me and Ethan on 1 row with the rest behind us....MIL was telling Bailie and Hunter that she needed the window seat because she didn't want to have to move a bunch of times for them to go to the bathroom.....................................well, suprise, suprise......guess who had to go 5 times???

Yep, she did.:headache:

About 4 hours later we landed in Florida!! We were all so excited.........I had to get this picture of MIL with the infamous "neck warmer"
http://i665.photobucket.com/albums/vv20/winkerspictures/DSC01170.jpg
You can also see ONE of her blankets in that picture.......

I was lucky enough to go to Paris with my best friend in Oct 07 (2 wks after my WDW trip) She "had" to go for work, so the room was paid for. All i had to do was pay for my flight, food, souvies. Well we flew from Cleveland to Newark. Our flight in Cleveland was delayed. By the time we got to Newark we had like 10 minutes to catch our international flight which was in another terminal. We were not the only ones on our plane trying to catch a flight. We asked the attendants if we could be let off first...nope not happening. We RAN as fast as we could (and we were dragging a lot of crap bc the next flight was going to be a long one). We made it there just as they were closing the door. They were not going to wait for us at all. It really irritated us. And we knew that once on the plane that if we barely made it on there...then our luggage did not make it on there. We were right.

So I guess in a really detailed question...did your luggage make the connection??

i have a feeling you will be doing a lot of waiting for MIL on this trip. maybe you should change the name to "waiting on MIL....." kinda like "saving private ryan." :rotfl2: i feel your pain. even though anna and chris are very capable of moving FASTER than ray and i, they never did on this last trip. in fact, we found ourselves waiting on them A LOT....like ALL THE TIME. but they have a 4 year old so that made sense. his little legs don't move as fast as ours do. i'm sure they all got really tired at looking at the back of our heads. by the 3rd day of our trip, we ended up splitting up a lot because ray lacks the patience factor when it comes to waiting. it was for the best.

Just as I was about to ask the attendant if they could call and let them know I had left something another attendant asked if this was my bag! The other crew had found it and sent it over!:cloud9:

Your MIL is hilarious! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:
that's one way to look at it....;)

So was the neck warmer still warm? :rotfl:
the funny thing is, she never heated it up to begin with, so I have no idea why she was wearing it for 6 hours!

So I guess in a really detailed question...did your luggage make the connection??
Wow, you really had a close call!
Luckily our luggage did make it!

:are we sure she isn't reading this...
she's still speaking to me........:rotfl2:
She doesn't even know that I do trip reports.

I'm loving it! And by the smile on MIL's face, she's loving it too. Do you think you will ever be able to go back without her?
she will not be going with us next time..........it'll take awhile before I forget how painfull vacationing with her can be.;)

and her tink shirt! :goodvibes what's so funny is i don't think i've ever seen anyone with a neck warmer on in FLORIDA!!!! :rotfl:
Actually, that's my tink shirt......I was nice and let her borrow it...which will come into play as kinda funny later on in the report when she makes a comment about my size in relation to her.........

Oh man!! I hate those really really short layovers they are no fun!! I'm so glad you made it!!!
!
that's the first time I've encountered that......not fun!

Your airport race sounds like our trip last year. We also almost missed our first and second flight. I bet this is only the beginning of the waiting on MIL.
yeah, waiting on her becomes a theme!

:rotfl: :rotfl:
The kids photos! The neck warmer!
:rotfl: :rotfl:
she is a what not to wear episode waiting to happen!

Oh my goodness this is so funny! I love it!
thanks!

Oh this is too funny! I have a feeling we'll be doing a lot of laughing throughout this report. You definitely have a sense of humor, regardless how true the situation is!
humor is the only thing that keeps me from strangling her at times.

Neck warmer = Tres Chic:confused:
Just maybe somebody, sometime told her they liked the thing :rotfl2:
MIL has her own sense of fashion.........I'll buy her a nice "normal" outfit for christmas and by the time she's done with it and all her "accesories" it's un recognizable!

MIL is too cute with her Tink shirt and her neck warmer!!!

who knows, maybe she'll start a fashion trend.

That stinks that some of you were beginning to start a cold. That is my fear for our upcoming trip. I've basically had one continuous cold all winter long. I'm recovering from bronchitis right now. I'm hoping that we'll all be relatively healthy for our trip.

Oh Cherie reading that you and Ballie needed cold medicine worries me, I hope you guys don't get sick. Your TR with your MIL is going to be very funny I can see it already. I guess I should take notes because we're bringing my mom with us in November. She usually goes on vacation with us every year but never have we've been to Disney together. The plane should be interesting.

Trippy deja vu here! We were in SLC airport with a 35 minute layover (which turned into a 15 minute layover), running from D to B terminals, except add that I have asthma! We get to the gate and hear "Are you the Carrs?" Yes, yes, we are and can I please have some oxygen?:rotfl: Not funny at the time, but what is it with that airport? Do they people can just teleport from one place to the other? And, I left a bag under my seat of the plane we had just gotten off of, but no nice stewardess brought it to us! Know what was in it????? See's candy.

I have to know how your MIL warmed her little bean bag...did she bring a microwave, too??

Thank you! I'm resting up this morning! So far not too bad!

Cherie, I don't know what it is about SLC, but it has happened to us at SLC a few times too. We had to RUN from B to D or something like that when our DS was 3 mo old. I'm running through the airport with his head flopping all over the place, and DH is loaded down with carry ons. The gate people are picking up the phone and calling to hold the plane for us as we run by - we made it, and so did our luggage - I can't figure that one out yet!:confused3

What has happened to us is you get there, and they don't have a "parking space" for your plane, so you sit on the runway waiting for a spot while your connecting flight leaves.

Your MIL is so funny! I can't wait to hear more!

We had about a 5 minute wait, but my mother decided that she needed to get her camera. In order to do that she had to unpack EVERYTHING because the camera was at the bottom of her bag. We have a pic of her repacking just before we were called to the bus. Seems to me that her finding her camera the first few days caused more than a few delays.. :headache: more to come from this side.

Hunter and I are the ones to worry about on trips. If I drink anything 24 hours before we drive a long distance, we HAVE to visit at least 2/3 of the rest stops and a few watered weeds along the way. :sad2: If Hunter has anything to drink, even a small sip, he has to "go" 15 minutes later, and it's an emergency. I think he gets that from Cherie's side of the family.:rolleyes1

During our trek through the airport, Ethan had convinced me to relenquish control of the camera.......this was a big step for me......I guess that's part of the Disney magic. it can make a control freak loosen up a little.:)

We borded our Magical Express bus and were off to Port Orleans! MIL was so excited she couldn't sit still. It was fun watching her take it all in for the first time!
Ethan was snapping pictures like a professional and Hunter had to use the busses bathroom............I should have seen that as a hint of things to come.

here's some of the pictures Ethan took on our way.......When we looked at them later I was pretty empressed with some of the detail he caught that I wouldn't have thought to get............

POFQ looks so pretty, you got lots of good pictures. We have pedestal sinks in 2 of our bathrooms, meaning you have to get pretty creative with storage! All the kids are looking so grown up--I miss Bailie's red hair. She looks so much older, which I'm sure she loves!

See, if you had taken a picture of Phil, you could have made a Flat Phil for the trip....get it??? :rotfl2: (That was a really bad joke...:rotfl: )

All of your pics are great! He did a good job.

My boys would have loved seeing a picture of Phil! :rolleyes1

Great photos - that last one of Bailie is great. :thumbsup2

Since I have yet to be to Port Orleans at all and we're staying at Riverside, I will wait and give my comparison when I return. ;)

Here's some of the pictures Ethan took on our way.......When we looked at them later I was pretty empressed with some of the detail he caught that I wouldn't have thought to get............

I was suprised at alot of the pics the kids took. These were just the beginning of their creativity. I really enjoyed the "view from a kids perspective" at DW. ;)

Just after that picture was taken one of the kids yelled.........ewww a dead frog.:scared:
There was a poor frog that had been flattened like a pancake mid leap. Of course the kids wanted a picture but I was a meanie and said no.
Little did I know that this poor creature would be named "Phil" by Ethan and linger our entire stay.

You may thank me now for there being no pictures.....

The funny thing is, Bailie :cutie: was the first one to say she wanted a picture of it. I think she may have gotten one on her phone without us knowing.....

Wow POFQ is so pretty. Poor Phil. :rotfl:
I can't wait to read more. Bailey is so grown up looking. Tell her I said she is beautiful. You have such a good looking family.

I'm not sure how I'm going to fight off the boys she is going to attract. Maybe they'll have to go through a full FBI investigation process before they are allowed to even THINK about dating her....:rotfl2:

Woohooo you're finally there ;) :rotfl:

Poor Phil :lmao:

So did you get connecting rooms or anything?

Actually, Phil wasn't poor any more. The bad part was he was belly up, if you know what I mean....:scared:

You made it to your hotel! How many trips in to bring MILs stuff in? Your resort looks really nice! It would be fun to stay there some time!

Oh, you got a pet Phil! Thanks for no pics.:thumbsup2 Yes, Bailey is really growing up, and she is so beautiful. princess:

Only one trip for my mom. All we had to worry about was carry-ons. We were also kinda bad. We made her carry her own stuff. :snooty:

My boys would have loved seeing a picture of Phil! :rolleyes1

The frog was sunny side up. There was nothing hidden from view. Are you sure they still would want a look? :confused3

Wonderful pictures. Our first stop after checking is Downtown Disney too! I would love to stay there some day. It's much prettier than the French Quarter in New Orleans, it's cleaner. Not to say the real French Quarter doesn't have some sights to behold, but it's not clean and don't go down there on garbage day.
I've always wanted to go to the French Quarter, the real one, just for all the old houses.....It's too bad that it isn't kept very clean.

So did you get connecting rooms or anything?
Yep, we had connecting rooms. I didn't put alot about the room in the update because my computer battery was realy low and I was in a hurry.:)

Great pictures of the signs and everything! I love seeing picture like that but I always forget to take them when I'm there.. hehe

I always forget about the signs and getting pics of the resort too.

Great pictures! Great update! You're writing is refreshing.:cloud9:
I know exactly where you're going with the "are we in florida" :rotfl:
thanks! I think we brought the weather from the north with us.

You made it to your hotel! How many trips in to bring MILs stuff in? Your resort looks really nice! It would be fun to stay there some time!
:
I'm a meanie and made her carry her own stuff.....there will be more of that issue later on.;) We all had carry ons to get up to the room, so she was on her own.

Thank you for squelching the idea to take pictures of Phil. :lmao: :scared:
you're welcome.:rotfl2:

I hadn't thought of that!:thumbsup2

The resort looks lovely. I have never really wanted to stay there, but your pictures may change my mind!
One of it's pluses, for me anyway, is how small the resort is....you don't feel like your walking for a mile before you get to where you're going.

I have to say I'm glad there was no picture of Phil.

I thought everyone would appreciate that!

My boys would have loved seeing a picture of Phil! :rolleyes1

Sorry I've been MIA for a while. DS turned 5 and we had some partying to do!

Yay!! You arrived at FQ. Rooms look nice, grounds look nice, sorry about the frog. :rotfl: Great pictures. Can't wait to read about the ride to DTD. We loved taking the boat when we were at POR. It's a much longer ride than from OKW to DTD.

For the truly beautiful homes check out the garden district. It's right outside the French Quarter and just a trolley car ride away. My daughter and her boyfriend love to spend time in the French Quarter she knows more about it than I do.

Can't wait to hear more about your trip.

I'm getting ready to take Hunter to a dance competition in Seattle, but I wanted to share this video from Annie. The boys were in there school's production last week and did a great job. This video of Ethan as Mr. Bundles cracks me up! He's the shyest of my kids so I could believe it when I heard he was going to be flirting with Miss. Hannigan!

You're kids really need to get picked to participate in some of the Disney shows.
