OK - DH and I did not do DDP this time in an attempt to not eat so many desserts! It did work. I've eaten at many of the WDW restaurants but never did a dining review. Soooo ... we were at WDW 2/9-2/14. We ate TS lunches 3 days and then dinner on Friday. I will also show some healthy snacks we had -- ARG -- healthy at WDW??? :scared1: I did not gain weight - YEA!!! I was full!!!
We ate at:
Plaza in MK
Rose and Crown in Epcot
Mama Melrose in DHS (BEST MEAL OF TRIP!!!)
Kona Cafe at Polynesian Resort
Quick Service
Captain Cooks at Poly
Contempo Cafe at Contemporary
Yak & Yeti Counter Service in AK
Arrival Day. We arrived around 3 PM at the Poly. Our room was ready - beautiful room on ground floor with a little patio. Close to TTC and we parked out front. "Cheap me" was thrilled that I could save tip budgeted for bell services - we were able to just wheel our stuff into the building from a very close parking lot!!! :)
We walked around and went to GF to check out their CS and then returned to eat dinner at Captain Cooks. Pic of us at Epcot - I'm 51  and DH is 50. We are not very picky eaters. I am very much a Pollyana so no bad reviews here - service was SPOT ON everywhere - no problems at all. I noted a little card in each bill which informed people about tipping. It was a good idea. Not being on DDP we never got "reminded" about tipping - I know others mentioned that.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/DHI.jpg
Here is our first meal:
Captain Cooks (Poly)
Cheese Flatbread $6.99, Hawaiian Flatbread $8.19 (pineapple-onions-ham) and a side Poly Salad (we shared) $3.99. The salad was mixed greens, blue cheese, pineapple and a light citrusy dressing.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/CCFlatbread.jpg
The flatbread was good. DH loved his. Mine was good - but I have this weird thing about powdery stuff like flour/confectionary sugar on stuff -- kind of like running nails on a blackboard and there was flour on the bottom of it! Made me shivery - (I HATE powdered donuts!). Anyway - just my weird thing - it was tasty!
The salad was AWESOME. All the salads we had everywhere had very light dressing - which I like - so I didn't ask for it on the side. We had this salad again the next day since it was soooo good! We each had a small chocolate milk - (2 for 2.58)
Next up: Magic Kingdom and the Plaza Restaurant!

Does anyone know how to update (change) the thread title - I see people change it to say "updated," but I can only "edit" the body -- anyway ... on with the review. THANKS MELANIEC - she told me how!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did say "healthy" but it was a vacation so later on Monday, we did have a little snackie on our little porch while we watched people walking to the TTC. Ahhh ... gorgeous weather ... it was 23 degrees when we left VA two days before and 70s in FL!!!!
:worship: chocolate candy and beer - ahhhhhh LIFE IS GOOD!!!!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/Snack1.jpg
I've done that "weight gain" competition before "natalielongstaff" and just so hard to come back and not keep eating too much!!!! Now, we did eat lots of good stuff ... just tried not to eat as much of the mickey head ice cream as we have in the past!!! Or the death by chocolate desserts!!! More to come in next post!

Up and ready to go to MK on Tuesday. We made rope drop which was so fun!! The singing, the dancing ... oh they were doing that at the train station too??!! :) We hit our favorites early and caught a fast pass to Peter Pan right before lunch at the Plaza. We did have a snack of two bananas around 10 AM but I think you know what they look like. We got them in adventure land and ate them right before the Jungle Safari ride.
I should have taken a picture of the front the Plaza but I forgot - I was hungry! We were seated at a table where I had a perfect view of the castle. The seats are close together but the atmosphere was muted EXCEPT for the woman and her nephew beside us. She just spoke soooo loud but it was about her food and his food and such - so not obnoxious, just loud - she kept telling him to eat his sandwich for energy so the rest of the trip we HAD to eat to keep up our energy (ha ha) ... otherwise, it was fairly quiet!
The Plaza (MK)
We had a salad. $4.99 My dressing (strawberry vinegrette <sp?>) on the side and DH got ranch. Mixed greens, very good!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/PlazaSalad.jpg
We both got a burger! Oh it was a giganto burger ($11.99). I had fries and DH had the chips. Mine was cheddar and mushrooms and DH had cheddar and onions. I have not had a burger and fries in ages ... and this was very good! We did gaze at others meals and DH said the steak and cheese looked good too! Here is the burger! The chips were ok -- I enjoyed the fries better!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/PlazaBurger.jpg
We did NOT get a dessert! All that ice cream but I was waayyyy too full -- maybe next time -- dessert only!!!
We did get a late snack in MK to take back "home (resort)" with us:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/Snack2.jpg
I just LOVE the little popcorn bucket!!! I got so many ideas from the DIS boards. My first trips were great too but I really took advantage of all the research I did the past couple years!
We stayed in MK until a little after 5 PM or so. We were exhausted and decided to go back to the resort to eat dinner and swim .... so good-bye MK (I was sad to leave this park!) :sad1:

Thanks MelanieC for the hint on changing the title - it was making me crazy!!!
Dinner was at Captain Cooks again - yes we are an adventuresome couple, right???? The grounds are so lovely at the Poly that we enjoyed walking them in the evening. We each got the stir fried noodles ($7.99) and shared the Poly salad ($3.99) again. The noodles were tasty and contained a great deal of white meat chicken. I do have to admit that I think the food contains an awful lot of sugar - everything tasted so sweet.
DH got a large chocolate milk ($1.99) and I got a fountain drink ($2.19).

Epcot - wow - great day! Did Test Track twice, saw Crush for the first time. We did not do Soarin' - I cannot handle IMAX type things and the height scared me ... so, it was out for me! We did not do World Showcase justice but we still had a wonderful day!
We stopped for a snack - fruit right ouside of TT. The fruit was fresh and ripe - it hit the spot!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/Snack3.jpg
Rose and Crown - I should have said before, we never waited more than 5-10 minutes for a table in any TS. The crowds were kept moving ... but we really did not feel rushed at all.
We were seated on the porch overlooking where Illuminations would be shown -- too bad it was 12 Noon -- :lmao: -- we sat facing out over the lagoon which was good as the tables beside us filled up and it would have been a tight squeeze! Here was the view:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/RCView.jpg
A pint of Harp beer ($4) and a cheese roll. I was impressed that bread came with many meals.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/RCBread.jpg
We each got a mixed greens salad - the dressing was very good - I believe it was a bacon vinegrette. It was a light tasting dressing. There were carmelized onions on the salad too. I would have to look at the menu to see what was in it -- but I ate it up!!!!!!!!!!! ($5.99)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/RCSalad.jpg
The Entree??????????? Oh yeah - FISH AND CHIPS!!! ($15.99). I will say there was a slight slight slight fishy taste but I am used to very mild fish like tilapia. DH never mentioned it and he cannot stand fish much at all so he must not have thought it had any fishy taste, but I wanted to pass that on. I still enjoyed the fish & chips but could not eat all of it - just too much! Two HUGE pieces of fish and then the fries under it.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/RCFish.jpg
No room for dessert again, though our server TRIED his best to talk us into it! Lovely place to eat - I would go back in a heartbeat!
.... actually .... we were looking forward to a little bakery in Norway so we didn't want to fill up on dessert in R&C -- thank you DIS peoples for telling me about that bakery!!!!!!!!!!

That cheese roll was great KatMark!! And I was feeling very happy eating that with my Harp ... which was beginning to make me feel even happier!!! :rotfl2:
After another run on TT and before our bakery stop ... we tried some FREE soda. NO ONE was in Club Cool -- please make sure and stop by it! It is a fun place to drop by!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/CoolWave.jpg
Many of the sodas are good ... one is NOT:

By the time we made it to Norway ... we were feeling our age ... and I remember doing theme parks from open to close ... but not anymore.
Anyway ... first time we got to the American Adventure! Loved hearing the Voices of Liberty! The attraction was very interesting and we rested a bit in the cool. It had gotten pretty warm at Epcot this day.
I would have never seen this bakery. Here is the snack we got!
School Bread!!!!!!!!! Yea!!!!!!!!! I finally got to try it!!! It is hard to describe! Both DH and I say buttery and creamy (not super sweet!)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/SchoolBread.jpg
We also got an almond pretzel to go. This worked out well since they put it between two oval plates and in a bag. We then looked through Mexico and rode the ride there - want to eat at the restaurant there some day! Caught Space Ship Earth on our way out. Oh -- the updates are neat! Then we dragged our sorry butts back to the resort. Guess where we are going to eat next??? Captain Cooks :lmao: (We had one more main entree to try!)
SnwflkCts

Just FYI - we had breakfast in the room each day. Cereal and I also got "Oatmeal to Go" bars. They were ok - DH liked them. I took coffee that is in those filter packs. OMG - so much better than the weak coffee in the room. Each night we would buy milk and a banana in the main building to have with our cereal. DH thought I should take a picture of the cereal but I figured you know what that looks like too! He was soooo sweet - he didn't care that I took pictures and he would "set up" the shoot so all was in the shot. How cute, huh? :lovestruc Almost 24 years and I still want to keep him!!!
OK -- I swear ... last Captain Cooks entree:
I had the noodles again ($7.99). See previous night. Good the second night too! DH had the "Grown Up Grilled Cheese" ($7.59)-- there were different kinds of cheese on sunflower bread. It was good and gooey (but definately not something a kid would like in my opinion!). He got the Asian Slaw (other name - broccoli slaw). I didn't try that - not my thing.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/CCGrillCheese.jpg
I also got some addtional steamed veggies which were ok. I mixed them in the noodles ($1.89).
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/2CCSteamVeg.jpg
DH had a large chocolate milk and I had a fountain drink again. The refillable mugs are a good deal and a great souvie but we would not have made up the cost on this short trip and we were a little ways from the main building.
Our late night snack ... the Almond Pretzel. I liked it better than the School Bread -- shhhhhh don't tell the DIS board that! There was a chocolate pretzel too ... gotta make another trip to try that one! ;)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/AlmondPret.jpg
Whoops, I had already divided it! Notice the plates??? I brought them home and we had lunch on them today. They were very Disney-like and I had to reuse them :cloud9: !
Tomorrow - wow ... we are starting to slow down at the parks ... but our favorite meal of the trip. MAMA MELROSE!

DHS was free and clear in the morning. Walk on to attractions. We got into all we missed on our first trip. Now I didn't realize this was the opening day of American Idol ... after lunch it was becoming a zoo. Although I love American Idol, we left at 2:30 -- people were already lined up for a "parade" to start at 4 PM!
Famous ToT bell hop and myself:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/P1000683.jpg
We got a snack of bananas and searched for Star Tours which I wish I had not found. Remember my little thing about IMAX films ... well this type of ride makes me ill ... and even though I closed my eyes both DH and I walked out of there with sweat running down our faces and my stomach was sick ... so of course we went off to eat lunch ... :rotfl: ... well, we had a few moments to cool off and compose our stomaches.
Mama Melrose ... we were lost as usual and arrived 10 minutes late but no problem ... we got seated within 5 minutes. This is a beautiful restaurant and you actually are not sitting with your neighbor!!! It was quiet and cool.
Iced Tea and Sangria for me! The Sangria was really nice - I avoided getting a 1/2 carafe ... why ... I'm not so sure and sorry now. :)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMDrink.jpg
Bread is served with the meal.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMBread.jpg
We both had the Ceasar Salad. It is served with Crostini. It was wonderful and fresh. Best salad we had!!!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMCeasar.jpg
DH had the Eggplant Napoleon. It looked good. Note the "pierogies" under the stack. DH said they were stuffed with spinich. I tasted the eggplant. Very good. He just scarfed this up ... (is that a word???).
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMNapoleon.jpg
I had the Chicken Parmesan. It was a large breast, very lightly breaded. I was hungry for more pasta though - but really there was plenty with the meal. The sauce was sharp and not sweet - just the way I like it. I certainly ate every bit!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMChickParm.jpg
DH had the cheesecake for dessert. I HAD to sample it for reporting purposes only. It was very light and made a good ending to the meal. I only had one bite though -- I was full. I did get coffee with my meal and it was rich and strong!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/MMCheesecake.jpg
There are many bad reviews of MM. We went in 2006 and loved it. DH talked about it many times which is why I picked it to return to. Same wonderful service and meal. I know we are not at WDW during a peak crowd time but I have never had a problem with service! I heard our waitress teasing with the child behind us and giving him a certificate and such ... just a very very nice place to eat in my opinion. I think everyone should try a restaurant at least once and form their own opinion. I'm sure there are off days at MM but we will most likely eat here again - oh another trip to plan :rolleyes1 !
We left DHS at 2:30. Up next ... our afternoon snack and dinner ....

I realize that we didn't have any snack in the afternoon after Mama Melrose. That afternoon we napped! Then we went in search of food again! We had exhausted the main entrees of Captain Cooks (except for burgers) and we didn't remember seeing anything at the GF that we especially wanted so we decided to explore the Contemporary. Hopped on the Monorail and there we were. We had not done any resort hopping so this was the first time we weren't just seeing it from within the monorail! Very nice. While we were there, DH said the sound reminded him of a train station. He was right!
We wandered around a little. I know CG is on the roof -- I never did find The Wave so not sure where that is. (It IS in the Contemporary, right?). Anyway ... we were just doing counter/quick service and the Contempo Cafe is right on the main floor. It is a large open area next to Chef Mickey. We got to hear the characters a little. Wow -- people were lined up there!
DH had a steak salad. He said it tasted like filet. It looked good. ($8.19)
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/ContempSteak.jpg
I had the pasta marinara and a small soup of the day which turned out to be alphabet vegatable. The pasta was little cheese ravioli under a rather thick cloying cheese topping. Although I ate the cheese, I think children would like this if you peeled that off. The soup was thick and I believe it was homemade - it was not Campbells alpha soup for sure.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/ContempPasta.jpg
We each had milk. Full from our little side trip, we watched Wishes that night from the Polynesian beach and swam a little before hitting the sack for our last full day ... Animal Kingdom.

I realize I forgot to put the prices on MM. Sangria was $6, Salad was $5.49, Chicken was $16.99, Eggplant was $14.99 and Hazelnut Cheese Cake was $5.99. Coffee and cold beverage was $2.19 each and each was refilled (again - great service on that).
OK .... Animal Kingdom day. We were there very early. We went on over to EE and got fastpasses and then back to DinoLand. Rode Dinosaur twice in a row! No wait at all. One time, they miscounted and the Cast Member said we were going in the LOVE MOBILE -- only us two. How nice!!!!!!!!!!! (The picture looked hideous or I would have gotten it!).
We did stop for a snack when we were in Africa:
The carrot and celery sticks were really crisp and fresh!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/Snack4.jpg
After dinos, birds, tigers and Yetis we decided to eat in Asia!
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/EE.jpg
We ate at the counter service Yak&Yeti. Beautiful theming. Places to sit were tough to get even though there was a large section of seating behind where you get your meal!
Here is the Menu:
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/YYMenu.jpg
We shared a Crispy Honey Chicken - there was plenty of chicken and at least a CUP of rice under it. I didn't even realize there was rice with it. Plenty for both of us with the two sides we got. We got the chicken fried rice and two pork egg rolls. Only one beverage as they did not have Light Lemonade which is what I like. I can't find my itemized receipts but the whole amount (tax too) was $19.98. DH thought for sure he would get my egg roll - I don't usually eat pork but I polished it off. EVERYTHING tastes great at WDW ... even pork! There are plenty of condiments to use with your items where the napkins, etc ... are. I was going to tease DH and make him go ask for a straw but I didn't.
I loved the Honey chicken. It was like sweet and sour chicken and the sauce was very sweet - that was mainly on the rice underneath it.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/YY.jpg
This is just the same Honey chicken, rice and chicken fried rice but I spooned some into the egg roll container to eat from it. Just thought you would like a view of the rice.
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/YY2.jpg
After lunch we hit the safari, rode the train and saw A Bug's Life for the 2nd time. A man with a "tall" COWBOY hat sat right in front of me. I really could not see but didn't want to ask him to take it off in case he got nasty ... cause that would be my last memory of the parks ... so I just dealt with it and leaned from side to side. I think it was about 3 PM when we left AK. We always hit the transportation just right and never waited more than 5 minutes for a bus -- I told you it was magical!
Up next, another DIS APPROVED snack and Kona Cafe.

Everyone know what this is????????????
http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i132/edieedie_2006/Snack5.jpg
Yes .... it is a DOLE WHIP. They have them at Captain Cooks so I guess I lied about no more Captain Cooks ... since we made it there one last time! There was a pineapple or vanilla dole whip. I went with the pineapple. We enjoyed this refreshing snack very much.
:disrocks: Thanks DISers for suggesting it!
I was glad this was available at our resort. I saw where they sold it in MK but not sure I would have wanted it there - no real reason ... it just was better for us to sit down and eat it. We shared it.
Up next .... Kona Cafe ... and farewell to WDW. Hard to believe I was in 80 degree weather just a few days ago and this morning there were snow flurries! :sad2:

We swam a little and then got ready to eat at Kona Cafe. This is the 5th time we've eaten there so you know we must like it. I even took my DSis and DBIL there in 2006 and they liked it. Our ADR was at 8 PM. We watched a few minutes of Wishes when the buzzer went off for us to take our table.
One con of Kona is that it is SOOO LOUD - the acoustics are horrible. I considered it the loudest of ANY restaurant we were in. But we were actually off in a little corner booth looking out at the restaurant. It seemed cozier than other tables so we were glad we got that corner! Our server was taking care of a HUGE (14-15 people with children) GROUP that arrived just when we did. He felt bad and sent another server to get our drink order and give us bread. It really was not that long ... but that was nice of him. Kona Cafe was very very full! After we ordered, our [regular] server did all the serving and was very attentive despite having the other group!
My Classic Mai Tai ($8.25)

There was Macadamia Nut Bread and Honey (pineapple?) butter. YUM!

I ordered the homemade chicken noodle soup and DH the salad. ($6.49 & $7.99)

We both got the teriyaki strip steak ($27.99). OK ... I miss the filet ..... a lot ....... strip steak is not my steak choice and I did not enjoy it like a filet. DH said it was delicious ... wonderful ... all that is good so take his word for it about the steak. Now the potatoes were to die for -- and I enjoyed the broccolini. DH subbed kale for his veggie. KALE?????????????? :scared:

We were too full for dessert. I've had several of their desserts before ... they are great! But no room tonight! I think I would like to order something else next time. The shimp looked good. The chicken sounds good too! We still had a lovely time at the Kona Cafe.
We went back to our room, sat on our little porch for a while and soaked up the warmth of Florida. Another vacation done ... and it was great!

This is the end of my dining review. I have eaten at other restaurants in the past but before I did reviews. 'Ohana is fun and I think we will eat there possibly the next trip. LeCellier had a great filet. We even had dinner at CRT on a past trip - you gotta try the castle at least once!
Anyway ... hope you enjoy this. Let me know if any questions and thanks for the very nice comments! :thumbsup2

I really enjoyed reading about your dining experiences and seeing all the great pictures you posted. Where exactly is Club Cool? I've read about the "Beverly" and think this is a drink my DH and DD would enjoy when we go in June. :rotfl:

3Bells - I thought Club Cool was on the park map but I don't see it listed! Anyway ... behind Spaceship Earth, there is a big circular fountain (the fountain was having maintenence done when we were there) with SE at your back Electric Umbrella on your left, Club Cool is around the fountain on the right. If you were at Electric Umbrella, and walked directly thru the fountain, Club Cool is directly across from it. When you walk out of Club Cool and turn right you are ready to go across the walkway to World Showcase. (Oh -- I am so horrible with directions!)
Hope you find it -- unless you look for it, it can be difficult. When you do, you can make your own Beverly face! :lmao:

Great! Thanks!
We were planning on getting 4 sides of the egg rolls until the CM looked at my Dad funny and said, "each side comes with 2 egg rolls." "Oh. In that case we'll just take two."
They were very very tasty!

I decided to read you full report since I went to it for the link to see the food at Yak and Yeti counter service.
What a great report on your food. You two seem so easy going. That caeser salad did look good. I wish I had Mama Melrose on our ADR's for next week.

Hiya! :goodvibes
I'm glad to see you posted these reviews, especially since you had to postpone the trip you planned for last year. I really enjoyed reading everything ... but did you not get to try afternoon tea at the Grand Floridian? For some reason I have it in my mind that you were going to give that a visit ... am I confused (more than usual, I mean)?
Thanks for taking the time to share your trip with us! :thumbsup2

Nice job! Thanks for posting your reviews and all the pictures.
I'm with you on missing the Kona filet. In fact, we are skipping Kona for the first time ever on our upcoming April trip. I've been twice since the filet disappeared, and it's just not the same....:sad2:

Thank you all for the nice comments. I had fun doing this report though I am not as witty as others here on the DIS Boards. Sometimes I am laughing and salivating at the same time!
oybolshoi: No, we did not make it to the GF tea ... I don't know ... just wasn't sure DH would enjoy it even though he would have been more than willing to try it. Maybe next time! I was just glad we were able to make the trip this year. DH wasn't allowed near any steps ... got out of laundry duty ... wasn't allowed to walk near ice ... or coughing children either. NOTHING WAS GOING TO STOP THIS TRIP!!!!!!!!!!!! We were going to make it to WDW for better and for worse ... in sickness or in health ... wait ... that sounds familiar .... :)

I really enjoyed your reviews! We are planning on trying the Plaza and Kona on our next trip.
I loved your short a sweet reviews with pictures! I appreciate that you included a shot of the menu at the Yak. We ate in the restaurant last time and while it was delicious- it was also expensive. Perhaps we'll try outside this time. We are a family of 6 so those meals add up quickly. Great reviews. Sounds like you had a very nice trip.
