We are looking for an ocean front hotel between Santa Cruz and Big Sur. Something where we can walk onto the beach and enjoy ourselves. We've been looking on tripadvisor but nothing seems to be just right. We stayed at Hotel Del Coronoado last year and would love something sort of similar but up in the middle or north part of California as we are doing Yosemite this year. Our plan is to stop in Monterey to do the aquarium and then the 17 mile drive. It doesn't have to be as classy as the "Del" but we would like to have something nice with a pool and the walkout to the beach.
Do we have to go all the way down to Pismo or Santa Barabara to have a nice beach area?

We like the Best Western Sea Cliff Inn in Aptos but it is not Ocean front. It has a nice pool, restaurant etc. and is walkable to the stairs that go down to Sea Cliff Beach but we usually drive
There is a Best Western just North of Monterey that is on the beach and has ocean view rooms. It is not in the heart of the wharf area, it is out on it's own.
