Hello everyone!
For those new to us, we are a group of people who are planning to participate in walking/running events throughout the year. For most of us, the ultimate goal is to train and compete in the annual WDW Half/Full marathons. We'll also be posting news and training for various other events throughout the year. We range from beginners to triathletes. Come join us, whether you're training for an event or walking/running for fitness!
New WISH Team members. If you read one thing over and over, believe this. Being part of this team is fantastic. Part of the ride you get for the event is what I call the roller coaster. There will be lots of ups and downs. The more you post here, the more you will find yourself enjoying the ride. It is an incredible journey. Don't be afraid, shy or whatever to come here and just post up anything. You don't have to know us right away, or all of us at all. You will get to know some of us. It makes the event you are enjoying have MORE meaning and we love to have you.

Here's what I did today:
http://photopost.wdwinfo.com/data/747/77486PICT0595a-med.jpg
But i can't ride 'cuz I have a half marathon tomorrow :confused3 Hopin' for a PR...need to beat 2:45:35.
Glad to see everyone's making their ressies for next year. We haven't decided where to stay yet. DH and DD16 are lobbying for Poly or CR to be on the monorail line, but I just hate to spend that kind of money when we could be at OKW for points.
Maura...glad you asked about Sunny...I'm sure there are quite a few folks who haven't met her. I'll do the intro, she can fill in the backstory. Sunny's one of the original WISH team members. With input from the group, she designed our shirt logo (front and back) and holds the copyright to the design. She has had some health issues which prevented her from training for the past couple years, but is now on her way back! Us 'oldies' are just thrilled to see her back posting and training!!
Sunny...the floor is yours!

Both the girls and I picked up the dreaded cold that have been going around, that includes fever. UCKKKKK!. So nothing to report today except grocery shopping.
Mel - Is that a NEW bike? Or just your old one ready to go for the season? I can't wait to pull mine out. I need to save for a new one. The local Tri is still on my want to do list!!! GOOD LUCK TODAY! You know I am thinking about you!!!!

Good Sunday again....hehe
Got up and did my 8 miles. Lots of fog out this AM. I did sweat some and had some elbow bombs. No pinky pistols, but did have some bombs.
Down another pound this last week.
I have 12 miles next Sunday then taper with a 6 miler after that and then the PRINCESS HALF!!
Now go get your NASCAR on!!

Thanks, Jen and John. No PR today, so I'm bummed. Official results aren't up yet, but Garmin time was just under 2:48. There was some weirdness with the mile markers...5 was at 5.2 on the Garmin, then 7 was at 6.9. My overall Garmin distance was 13.01 which NEVER happens...I'm always over the official distance. But either way...I was on pace until mile 11 when I started getting cramps in my right calf when I ran more than a minute at a time. I didn't do a real taper for WDW or this race, so I'll call today my last LR before Princess, then taper appropriately.
Jen and Tracey...new bike, 2008 Jamis Allegro 2.0. It's a hybrid with flat handlebars, but has road bike components and really cool trigger shifters. Bike was $620 because it's last year's model, but the aerobars were $100. Still need shoes and clipless pedals, but I'm waiting a bit for that. With Princess coming up, I'm not planning a lot of riding the next few weeks, but I'm going to register for another duathlon here on June 6.

Today i did the National Marathon to Fight Breast Cancer (1/2) in Jacksonville.
13.1 in 2:03:54. I was hoping to break 2 hours, but it was a PR by over 9 minutes so all is good.

I'm still getting ready for the Princess 1/2. I can't wait for it, but I am getting realy nervous about finishing it in time. I don't care if I finish it at 3:29:59, I just want the medal!

What is the model of the Timex watch that allows you to set intervals? I was going to shop on ebay last night, but I didn't remember the name of it!
TIA

Hi everyone! Hope all is well. Got in 2 miles today :)
Stupid Question for everyone: I notice a lot of you use Garmins to track your time and distance. Do you just use regular ones or is there some special running one? lol My mom got one for Christmas and I may start stealing it :)

I did that race too. I did PR with 2:35:10 about 7 minutes faster then my prior PR. But my legs are telling me about it today!
Mel, good job on the race. Nice bike

Mel: That's one sweet-looking ride you got. I hope you get to spend some quality time in the saddle, after your halfs. Speaking of halfs, congrats on Sarasota! I know you're a bit disappointed by the race, but it sounds to me like it's all just prep for the Princess. And for your dualthon. :woohoo:
Shan: Yay for your DD and her awesome swim meet. And on your speed 3 miles, too!
Jen: How are you and your DDs feeling? Any better?
Tracey: Congrats on your mileage this weekend. And for dropping another pound. (I'm stalled on the latter.) You're going to be so ready to PR the Princess! And you've earned your cookies and cream Edy's.
Ang: Do you walk to the dog or does it (he/she?) walk you? I always wonder about the chicken/egg of the dog-walking thing....
Jeff: Awesome time on your 12 miler! You're so speedy! Must be the Girl Scout cookies calling. (Or the ice cream.) :goodvibes
Jim and Carol: Congrats on your Breast Cancer 1/2s. Great job with the new PRs!
Kristi: Sure, sure, taunt me with the Wii Fit. :rotfl2: Yay for your 4 miles, and I hope your calves are feeling looser today.
Megan: You're going to do great at the Princess and have a terrific time! (Whether or not that time is 3:29:59!) :yay:
Kat: Yay for your 2 miles! How's C25K coming for you?
And I'm not a Garmin user yet...waiting for the 405 to have Mac support. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting. The rep at the Disney expo said it would be released 1/21. Liar. So, if anyone has any reliable news.... :rolleyes1
Christa: Woo hoo for breaking the 4 hour mark on your marathon--and by a big margin! You've worked so hard for it! :dance3:
As for me: Not much to report. I'm officially not going to be in WDW during the time of the Princess 1/2, so no spectating for me. :sad2: We ended up with $1800 in unexpected car repair bills that sucked up our discretionary spring-break travel funds. Bleh. So I'm counting on all of you to tell us great stories to make me feel as if I was there cheering you on! :thumbsup2
No other news, really. I'm going to try to squeeze in extra WOs this week because Saturday is an all-day movie fest, watching the Best-Picture nominees at the local AMC. 12 hours of fun, fun, fun with other cinephiles. In case you don't follow the Oscars--you sad, sad people--the nominees are: The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Frost/Nixon, Milk, The Reader, and Slumdog Millionaire. (So, any bets on what'll take best picture?) Because they're back to back movies, though, I'll have to put in a short run in the morning or bag it altogether. Why do I do this? Must be the popcorn. popcorn::
Anyway, as to the reason I'm posting this information....I'm open to any suggestions on quick exercises to do between movies, when I'll have 10-15 minutes to get my blood flowing. No stairs, please. I did that last year and ended up with the worst leg cramps the next day.

I have got to get moving. Tomorrow is supposed to be nice here so hopeful to get out in it.

C25K has been great. It has been the perfect amount for me. I'm starting my 4th week Wednesday. I had the weeks going well, but Life took over this weekend and I missed Friday. Made it up today. It's seriously been the best way for me to start!

Hi Everyone!
I just joined the board tonight, saw a bunch of WISH runners at the Disney Half in CA last Labor day, was inspired by their shirts... I have signed up for the Princess half and am flying there from CA. Big step for me, coming by myself and running alone...(I use the term "running" very loosely!!!).
I'm 48 yrs. old and have been "wogging" for a year and a half now. Would love to meet some of you, even if its on the course, so that I don't feel so all alone...
Looking forward to it,
Tammy

Man collapses and dies at Great Aloha Run
By Star-Bulletin staff
POSTED: 12:09 p.m. HST, Feb 16, 2009
A 58-year-old man who participated in the Great Aloha Run died this morning after collapsing in the Aloha Stadium parking lot.
Emergency Services spokesman Bryan Cheplic and Honolulu police confirmed the man had died, but had no further details. Honolulu Police has sent a detective to investigate the case.
Emergency responders from the American Medical Response arrived at about 9:30 a.m. to find several bystanders performing CPR on the man, who was apparently in cardiac arrest.
Honolulu firefighters arrived to see an Automated External Defibrillator, a device to treat cardiac arrest patients, attached to the man. Paramedics took over the CPR and transported the man to Kapiolani Medical Center at Pali Momi.
A Pali Momi official said there were two participants in the Great Aloha Run who were sent to the hospital, but provided no details on the second patient.
According to race officials, 20,582 people registered to participate in the 25th annual Great Aloha Run that kicked off at 7 a.m. at the Aloha Tower Marketplace.

Christa So great to break that 4 hour mark! Congrats.:cheer2:
Debra Sorry about the car repairs. We face some with our son's car now that he managed to put a nice dent in the rear door sliding off the road on an icy day. I may have to put a dent in his .....wallet (I was going to say head!) No suggestions on the 'tween movie exercises--does dashing to the bathroom count!;)
Well...I better get to work. Not a good day yesterday (boss problems). Today I visualized "running away from work as fast as I could". It made speedwork go really well! :lmao:

Jeff - sad to hear about the man in the Great Aloha Race. We had a guy collapse at the Broad Street Run (a 10 miler) a couple years ago. He didn't make it.
Maura - I've been wanting to run away from my boss for the past 6 months :scared1: (really I've wanted to give him a few swift kicks you know where!)

Thanks for the welcome wishes! I hate to sound clueless, but what is the POR? Polynesian O.... Resort? Do I need to sign up for that in advance?
Tracy, I think you were very brave to come to CA. I wish I had known you, I would have supported you there!
Does anyone know if the Princess half and the Disneyland half will qualify for the coast-to-coast medals? Or did I miss the boat by not coming to FL in January?
Thanks,

Yes, Princess + Disneyland halves = Coast to Coast medal.
POR = Port Orleans Riverside. There is grab and go food, the pasta station (about $13), and the other food station that also has pasta (ziti I believe).

Hello, WISHers!
I'm sorry, but I have to play catch up..
RunningDiva/Tammy, :welcome: Keep on asking those questions..we'll get an answer for you somewhere! There will be lots of bright green WISH shirts around on race morning if you don't make the meet before. PLEASE make sure you come up to the group and say, "Hi!" You will NOT be alone at the race with WISHers around!
Shan, WONDERFUL for your daughter!! and look at your speed!! Way to go!! pixiedust: for you tomorrow, and as you recover!
JimB, it was a PR by over 9 minutes :scared1: :woohoo: :scared1: :woohoo: FANTASTIC!!!
mla1977/Megan, There's a medal with your name waiting on you at the Princess!! Go claim it!! ;) You have been doing a great job of getting those steps in! :thumbsup2

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. I laugh at the idea of me jumping ropes and jacks, crunches, and push-ups (me of little upper body strength), and all in public. What a sight for all those movie-goers! :lmao: But that's the kind of stuff I asked for and, more important, the kind of activity I have to do to avoid the awful stiffness of last year. Thank you, everyone, and keep the ideas coming. (My personal favorite--Lily's sprinting for popcorn. Yeah, that's speaking right to my motivation and inner glutton! :rotfl2: )
Kat: So glad you're enjoying C25K. It really seems to work for a lot of people in building a solid, safe foundation for running. It's obviously working for you if you're already into "making up" runs! :thumbsup2
Tammy: Welcome to WISH. It's so exciting to have you jump right in before the half. I'll second what others have said--just go right up and introduce yourself to people. I've never met an unfriendly WISHer. Some frighteningly friendly ones, but never UNfriendly... :rolleyes1
Aloha Jeff: That's sad news about the death of a runner. :sad2: About your December goal--are you really attempting a sub-4 right before the Goofy? :worship:
Maura: Dashing to the bathroom is definitely on the agenda. I have a weakness for soda and popcorn at the movies. Bigger news--how are you doing? Better work days? I mean, sure, visualization exercises for speedwork is all fine and good, but I'd rather you run TO something than away from the boss.
Carrie: Your Ice Fest 5K sounds, well, slippery. But also fun and a great motivator to get outside in February!
Terri: Yep, love those car repair bills. I always think my cars should run for years without upkeep so that I can spend my money on things that are important. Like rental cars at Disney. Or a Wii. (Love your XT program!)
Megan: Do you have all your gear ready for the Princess now?
Shan: Great job on your final pre-surgery run. (When is it scheduled?) Remember, nothing wrong with walking. Heck, half the walkers here beat me on the course regularly!
Krista: Boring parts of a movie? What's that? ;) Um, picture of Carter? Just for a visual update of our growing boy? It's great seeing you here, btw!
Betsy: :woohoo: on getting back to running. 3 months already? I'll keep my fingers crossed on your getting back to swimming, because I know you miss it.
Mindy: Where in PA are you? (Me, Pgh.) Great job on picking up your pace, esp. with the TM.
Anne: WTG with your training for CMM. It's going to be a blast, and right now I'm laying odds you come away with oh, about 12 new friends. Because you're so shy, you know. :flower3:
As for me: Still struggling a bit with motivation. I think my body wants to hibernate. Did some extra miles today at the gym, "banking" miles for this weekend. It felt good, but we'll see what happens when I go out on the road tomorrow.

Let's just bump this thread up, shall we? I can't believe it was so far down the page!
I've had an okay training week so far, I've got in 7 miles and last night I did a Richard Simmon's Sweatin' to the Oldies DVD which was ridiculously easy. I need to get my butt back to the gym and into a spin class. I also need to run one more day during the week, but at least 2 days of running is better than nothing! 5 miles on tap for tomorrow, I may run them tonight on the TM just to get it over with. We'll see if Stephen wants to go on a date tonight or not. ;)
Betsy--Good luck on starting tri training again! I know how exhausting that is. Stephen is planning on doing a 1/2 IM in August, between that and me training for Goofy, our house is going to be crazy! Hope you are able to swim again soon!
Jim and Carol--Congrats on your PR's! That's awesome!
Debra--Are you holed up at the movie theatre today? Have fun! I will post some pics of Carter soon. He is getting SO big. I had to take him to the doctor today for another ear infection--he weighs 18 lbs and 3 oz, I guess eating food is agreeing with him!
Anne--Yay for getting your steps in! I wish we were doing CMM, we came thisclose to registering, just couldn't stomach over $1000 for a day and a half trip. I hate being responsible. Sigh.
Have a good weekend everyone! Have fun training and good luck to everyone who is racing!!! :wizard:

Hi Everyone!
Thanks for the congrats! I was pleased with my time. Next up is the Princess Half, but it's really a "play date" I am NOT pushing myself hard. I have just done a good half for me and have the Country Music coming up in April so my goal is "not to get swept and take lots of pictures"
I still haven't done anything this week, but I am going to the Y this afternoon! (I just wish it were warmer. I don't want to go outside!)
Krista, I know what you mean about the prices. We just figured out that for the Breast Cancer we spent almost $600 and that doesn't include the registration! I think CMM will be cheaper for us. It's one less night in a hotel, closer drive and I have us in the Extended Stay for $60 a night vs the Courtyard for $150! (However, that Courtyard has the BEST location for that race!)
Maura, Hope the job is OK. I saw where the Saab divison of GM declared bankruptcy! Scary times to work in the auto industry!
Have a good weekend everyone!

:stitch2: Monday Mixers w/ Team 'Ohana :stitch2:
I thought I'd let the weekly thread WISHers know that Team 'Ohana is inviting their WISH family to come visit its thread on Mondays. We thought this would be a good way for people on the teams/threads to get to know other WISHers better. Plus, 'Ohana like to think we know how to throw a party and we always like new guests! The drinks are free, if virtual, and no one will tell you when you've had enough. :upsidedow
I'll post a reminder on Monday, with a loose question/discussion topic to get the conversations going. There's no need to stick to the topic, of course, as it's really your sparking, non-alcoholic but still intoxicating presence that is requested. So, if you have a little time for socializing with your cousins, please stop by 'Ohana on Monday! :goodvibes

Hi WISH Team! It's snowing here again. That means my w/o is shoveling. I've been doing that a lot this season. I'm not getting buff like I should from doing it though, not even losing as much weight as I'd like. At least I've stopped gaining. I guess I should celebrate something.
