Hi all, believe it or not I'm here 2x this week! LOL Just figures, as soon as I say I can't I make myself try harder... Tomorrow starts my taper week, 8-10 miles and then only one short run left. I try to do nothing for the four days leading up to the race (surprising how easy that is!).
I just heard about a TREK Woman's duathlon at Disneyland in June and I'm debating on whether or not to sign up. It's an inaugural event (don't you just love those?) and really short distances - run 1.5, bike 10, run 2 miles - but I'm worried because 1)its two weeks after my marathon, 2)I haven't ridden a bike in over 10 years and 3)I do run/walk intervals and am afraid I'll look ridiculous walking during a 1.5 or 2 mile race! Am I being silly? Please tell me everyone there isn't going to be snickering as I walk by... I'm also afraid of coming in LAST :scared:
I'll let you know if I decide to do it...

Hey everyone,
I kind of skipped my workout yesterday. I ended up driving to Canton Ohio for the day (If you haven't guessed, I like to travel)and never got a chance to work in the exercise. I must be crazy because today I'm leaving for south carolina again. This time my sister, her boyfriend, and I are driving. 20 hours of total driving time is well worth the weather, seeing my family and my dog. Hopefully I can work a quick session in today before I leave. If not, then I'll do double workouts tomorrow.
Safe travels Steve!:goodvibes

Hey team,
I finally got to go golfing and it was awesome. I put in 30 min at the driving range and 4.5 hours playing 18 holes. tomorrow I am hoping to do a quick run and then start the 10 hour drive home. Tomorrow also means that I only have two weeks until my disney trip. Thats it for now.

hey guys! I hope everyone is well?
Nothing really to report, I had to have thurs of between going to school and picking up more family from the airport and working there was just no time :( Fri I was supposed to be running with my running club, but the Kid turned 3 yesterday so we were getting the house ready for the party and we lost track of time. Friday night I had one too many pre party beverages and dispite telling everyone I was going for a 6 mile run (at midnight!) they wouldnt let me go (who knows why!:confused3) I awoke saturday morning VERY sick:sick: and with a really sore hip:confused3. I am hoping that I was just drunkenly stupid and fell on it and cant remember because that would be a lot easier to mend than something I have done out running, so now I am waiting for it to improve so I can get out again :scared: But on the plus side the kid had the BEST 3rd birthday party, volunteering went well yesterday, these house guests are much better than the last ones :) and I just found out something good about school next year :woohoo: )
Steve - thanks for the vote of confidence on the weight thing, I am no longer going to weigh myself :) and have a good trip, glad you enjoyed your golf! :thumbsup2
Suzann - I know it seems bad to complain about loosing weigh without trying but when I am running I no longer have the motivation of loosing weight:goodvibes! Hope the bowling tournament goes well :thumbsup2
Running Diva - Dualthon sounds good, I have no advice not having ever done one but my new years resolution was to seize every oppertunity so I say go for it :thumbsup2
Happy training everyone

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:
I've been thinking about how to create a hot topic for this week's mixer question. Turns out, the weather cooperated with me. :lmao:
Many areas of the country experienced above average temperatures this weekend, which made many of our weekend distances uncomfortable. (I was thinking especially of how the weather affected the racers at CMM, particularly our very special WISHers). So this week's mixer topic, which starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31536832&postcount=766) on the 'Ohana thread:
What are your training/racing/recovery tips and strategies for hot-weather conditions?
Feel free to tell us how you alter your routines: when you go out, what gear you use or what you wear, how you hydrate and fuel differently, how to recognize danger signs, how you keep cool and/or recover from overheating, and when you decide to shorten/quit/take it inside.
As we all know, going out in the heat can be dangerous, so please help all of us by sharing your knowledge. :thumbsup2

Hey team,
Nothing to report today. I had the long drive back to Toledo and my back was pretty sore from golf. So I thought a rest day was probably a good idea.
Kirsty - I hope your hip heals quickly. I have also awoken up to mystery injuries that I swear never really happened (if you cant remember it, then it didn't happen right?). Just curious, did you swear off drinking forever saturday morning?
Kirsty-Leigh

Hey guys!
Hip feeling a little better, it cracked a few times and that seems to have alieviated some of the pain. will see what it is like after work on whether it is another rest day for me :(
Steve - exactly I have no memory of it so it must not have happened! Yes I have in fact sworn of alcohol forever and its going well so far ;) I bet you are getting excited about your trip, the weather here is amazing right now about 90 and sunny with no humidity, perfect for Disney! (Although I dont mind any weather when I am near the mouse!)
Happy mondays everyone

Hey folks!
I ran yesterday and man it was hot. It was good though and we went to the school track so it was completely flat. I ran Friday with a friend who I am trying to encourage into the world of running. We did a walk/run and went 1.5or so miles. I hope she'll stick with it! Friday the kids and I went on a hike at a local state park too. Having nicer weather is a big motivator for me to get moving again!
Have a great week! I finally updated the spreadsheet for myself too to the best of my knowledge. I walk the dog the same route just about every day so that one is easy to recall! I had some other runs/workouts jotted down so I got those in. Haven't been too many but hoping that improves weekly now.

Whats up team,
I just got back from a 30 minute run for 2.16 miles. I am slowly extending my running segments and I am definately noticing that my knee is hurting less and less. Tomorrow I start Phase 2 of my P90X workouts and hopefully I can get a bike ride in this week sometime.
Kirsty - I am so excited for disney it hurts. On the way back from South Carolina, my sister and I spent a good 3 hours just talking about the different things we want to do while we are there. And don't worry, I also have said the words, "I'm never drinking again" but it just never seems to last.
Allyson - I agree. Nice weather definately helps motivate me to go outside and do something, whether its golf, running, or whatever.
Ok I'm going to go stare at the calendar and try to make the days go faster. Talk to you guys later.

hey guys
my hip seems to be a lot better, I was at storytime with the kid and I was sitting crossed legged and she jumped on me, I heard a big crack and it has felt loads better ever since! Who needs doctors when there is a 3yr old around :lmao: Even so I gave myself one more day recovery just to be safe ;) It is getting pretty hot here so I might have to start going out before work in the morning :scared1: which means getting up before the sun does  but I am not very good at it :rotfl2: so I will set my alarm for tomorrow morn andf we will see how it goes. Hopefully I can manage it because it is still in the 80/90's when I finsh work, then my employer makes dinner, and well then thats about it no getting me off the couch then :3dglasses so I will give this a shot and lwt you know how I go on :rotfl2:
Steve - It will last this time I am sure of it :confused3:laughing::confused: I know what you mean, I kinda miss the suspense of going to Disney for a vacation.... not that I am complaining about living vertually next door and being able to go every weekend :woohoo: but just the planning what you will do , and eat and which order to see the fireworks in is all part of the fun right
Allyson - Wow it sounds like you are taking good advantage of this spring, good job I hope the nice weather continues to inspire you :)
Have a good night guys

Morning everyone!
I am pretty proud of myself because I got up before the sun did and went for a 2mile run :woohoo: I think this is the first time I have ever been able to get up for excercise before work! :cool1: and it was so nice out, I was amazed how many other people were out aswel, in my head I was like "what are they doing out so early, crazy people" :rotfl2: Anyway as you might be able to tell I am pleased with my little self :cutie:
Have a good day guys

Hi everybody.
Life has been crazy around here with it nearing the end of the school year. I'll try to check in a couple of times a week. Sounds like everyone is doing well with the training....minus a few injuries.;) Kirsty, I hear you on having a 3 year old around, they can cause some aches and pains and amazingly make some go away. I've been a little lazy the last few weeks, so I'm going to have to start building up my mileage again. Take care all.

Hey guys,
Its a little chilly here right now at about 50 degrees and a little rainy. That being said, I woke up today and I really wanted to go for a bike ride and neither hell nor high water was going to stop me. So I went for the first ride of the season and strangely I was the only one on the bike path. I can't imagine why no one else wanted to ride in the cold and the rain. It was a short ride for about 10 miles but it tired me out. I still have a chest, shoulders, and triceps workout to do tonight.
Kirsty - Congrats on the early run. You're a better person than me. I tell myself I should get up early for the workouts and even set my alarm. Unfortunately that snooze button just seems so nice in the morning.
Tracey - I know what you mean with school ending. I have less than 2 weeks left and finals are really going to cut down on my free time.
Thats it for now. Hopefully I force myself to do the resistance training I need to do. Right now that couch is sounding awefully nice though.

Kirsty-Nice job on the early run! I would love to be up and out before anyone but I just can't do it. The kids get up at 7 and need to be out the door for school at 8. I just can't seem to pull myself out of bed at 6 no matter how hard I try. At least I work from home so I can pretty much run when I want and work around it. But it sounds nice to start the day that way and have it crossed off your to do list so early!
Steve-Good job getting out there despite the cold!
Tracey-I hear ya on a busy time of year! Our last day of school is not till June 24 (sooo many snow days this year!) but May is such a busy time. My oldest dd is in softball and they now have games every M/W/F night till mid June. It is crazy! Middle dd plays soccer, at least those games are on Saturdays. I try to get youngest ds to Karate when we can between the girls schedules. And throw Girl Scouts, horseback riding and drama in there for good measure. At least drama is over in 2 weeks!
Me? Today was in the low 90s and steamy! So I did not run. I worked from home and then laid out on my deck and vegged. It was quite nice! :)

Hi Team, just checking in... I'm still on the fence about the duathlon but I printed the application and have it on my desk... step one, I guess. I keep looking at it... On another note, I entered the lottery today for the NYC Marathon! I must be crazy! I have a half three weeks before that and of course the DL half in September. I'll have to do lots of long runs in the horrible heat of summer to prepare for it - but I just couldn't resist the lottery aspect. Its out of my hands now...
Kirsty - way to go on the morning run! I LOVE early morning workouts; problem is I love my snooze button too! I DO do all my long runs at 6:30 on Sunday mornings, so I know what you're talking about. Its so quiet, and cool, and the only other people you see are also working out... Keep it up! And good luck with your hip.
Steve - do you actually live in Toledo? My dh is from there...
Allyson - how nice of you to get a friend into running! Sometimes it just takes a little encouraging to change a person's life for the better.
I have the OC 1/2 this weekend, send me good vibes...and don't forget, registration for the Princess half opens Friday!!:yay:

Hey Team,
I just finished my first workout in the phase two portion of P90X. I was supposed to do it yesterday, but I was tired from the bike ride. This work out was intense. I worked the muscles under the muscles that I didn't know existed. I am supposed to do abs but right now I cant think about doing anymore exercise today.
Tammy - I kind of live in Toledo. I go to school in Toledo so I'm here for most of the year. I would like to look into a small duathlon too. I love to bike and I have a love/hate relationship with running. I would like to try a triathlon, but I'm not the greatest swimmer.
Allyson - I won't lie. I'm kind of jealous of your 90 degree weather. I would have vegged too.
Tomorrow I plan on running and maybe a back and bicep workout. Talk to you guys later.

Hi everybody!
Steve....congrats on the bike ride in the rain (the mom in me feels the need to say, "Be careful." Good luck with finals.
Allyson...I know we're all in the same boat...but May is so crazy and for you, I'm guessing that June is as well. Laying out on the deck sounds so nice.
Tammy...I say, do the duathlon, it sounds like fun. Good luck with the lottery.
Have a great day everyone.

Hey guys!
I did it again, I got up at 6 this morning and went for another 2 miler, it is really nice out, I also wanted to do it yesterday but the snooze button won out! I actually really like going out early, its just the motivation to get out of bed that is the issue! I am still having trouble breathing, even on short runs, but I am hoping this is going to subside!
I want to get a long one in this weekend but my employer is having surgery so I dont know how much free time I will get!
Steve - Good job on the bike ride in the cold, that shows commitment :)
Tammy - I really hope you can get into the NYC that would be amazing, and putting it up to fate is a great idea! Good job with printing the application now all you need to do is fill it in and send it off :)
Allyson - Vegging out on the deck sounds like a good plan! The kid just got roller skates and a bike for her birthday and it is my job to chase her round and catch her in 90 degree, oh well could be worse i guess :rotfl2:
OK guys speak to you all soon

Whats up team,
My internet was out for a few days so I couldn't post. Good news is I got in a game of golf yesterday and a short run today. Bad news is I am putting P90X on hold for a couple weeks. I don't have heavy enough dumbells anymore so I'll start back up when I get back to SC for the summer. Also, at risk of showing just how big of a disney geek I am, I managed to get a hold of the background music from innoventions, so thats what I was listening to while I was running. Hope everyone else is doing well. Talk to you guys later.

Hey guys,
I went on a 6mile run yesterday, and I am finally starting to feel fitter :cool1: but then after a day of walking around the hospital helping all the sick kids I was pooped and fell asleep at like 8pm :rotfl2: (I know I am a real party animal) I am still undecided on if I will run today or not, it is pretty hot out there still so we will have to see :goodvibes
Steve - I don't think you are a geek I run to the Illuminations music and sometimes the fantasmic CD, which also has all the words in so I can pretend to be Mickey :rotfl2:
Have a good day guys

I think it is great that you run to Disney music! Make you feel like you are there!
Today DH and I went to the school track. I don't like running in circles but it is nice because the kids can be at the playground and we can run. We did 2.25 miles. I thought we were done at 1.75 but he started around again. And then again. I couldn't let him do more than me so I kept going with him. It is feeling better, getting back into this after the long stretch without it.
As for running songs, I love running to Jason Mraz "I'm Yours" because it is just a nice easy pace and it is happy! :goodvibes And today Taylor Swift's "Love Story" was nice too. And when I want to kick it up nothing like a little Britney and "Womanizer"!

Whats up everyone,
I'm taking a study break right now and I decided to get my disboards fix for the day. I don't think I'll be putting up any numbers today. I've been up almost the whole night studying and the first thing I'm doing when I'm done with tests is sleeping.
As of now, I have less than a week until I'm in Disney and I can't wait. I have a question for everyone. What is the one thing that you absolutely have to do/see while you're in Disney World? Just trying to spark some conversation and maybe give me ideas for what I should do while I'm there.
Kirsty - Nice job in the 6 miles and its good hear its getting easier to run. I can't until I can run 6 miles without my knees falling off.
Allyson - Running in circles does get kind of old after awhile, but its nice that your family can get outside for a little bit.
I guess I should get back to studying. Talk to everyone later.

Hey guys, I got no numbers to report as of yet today, yesterday I was busy studying and entertaining family members so I didnt get a chance to get out, so I set my alarm early and decided to do a quick morning run, well I managed to get out of bed, and I was trying to keep the dog from waking up the kid and I was looking for some clothes and I couldnt find any sock, at that point I decided it would be just easier to go back to bed, so I did and had a nice sleep for 1 1/2 hours. My punishment is now I am going to have to go out after work and it is HOT out but at least I got a little longer in bed :lmao:
Allyson: nice job on the laps, I can do about 2 circles and I get bored and stop, although if i was runnning with someone I, like you, would not be able to give up while they were still running :)
Steve - I bet you are soooooo excited about coming down here, I would be too excited to study :) to answer your question there isn't much I don't "have' to do when I am there, but something I did a while back that was awesome was the keys to the kingdom tour around MK, they take you in the tunnels, its pretty cool. I also discovered a few years ago that you can ride segways in EPCOT, you can either do the segway tour of EPCOT which is neat but pricey or you can go into innovations and have a go on them there, if you havent done it before its kinda neat. We also have to go for at least 2 different character buffets :) and last year when I turned 21 I had my hair done in the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and then went to 1900 park fare and danced with the prince, but that might be a little on the girly side for you :lmao: I LOVE the parades and the fireworks and have to see all of them when I go, (there is a new parade in MK although it is fairly similar to the old one but with new costumes and music, and a new one in DHS which opened like August last year which is pretty cool) also if you havent been on the new Toy story ride that is one not to miss, but you HAVE to get a fast pass at the beginning of the day, I havent yet seen the line under 90mins and fast passes run out before noon. Last year my parents bet us that you cant get a fast pass at the same time in 2 parks, so we got one at Splash, monerail to EPCOT and got one for Soarin, then back to MK for Splash and then back to EPCOT for Soarin, and it turns out you can get them at different parks even if you arent out of time yet, (and yes it was a pointless waste of time and energy but fun things like that keep us entertained after going to the world hundreds of time :lmao:)
Ok so I just went off on a huge tangent, but you have to do all the biggies, like Splash, Space ToT etc, then some silly ones like Its a small world, all the fireworks and parades. and then see what else you can find out, last time I went on vacation with my family, we found out info from Disney websites about little facts and then tried to find them around the park :)
Alright I have to go now, I tend to get just a little carried away when I talk about the world, hope I mentioned something that might make your trip more enjoyable (if that is possible:) )

Kirsty - Up until about 5 months, my hair would have been long enough to go to the Bibbity Bobbity Boutique and I'm pretty sure I would have made a stunning Cinderella princess::rotfl2:. The segway tour of EPCOT would definately be right up my alley, but it is out of my price range. I'm pretty sure they have an "off-road" segway tour in Fort Wilderness too. I'll have to stop by innoventions and try to ride one there. My parents have done the Keys to the Kingdom tour and they really liked it. I used to work at MK a few years ago and I'd be interested to see how much of the tunnels they show guests compared to what I saw while I was there. I will probable try to see all of the fireworks and most of the parades. I usually try avoid Spectromagic just because I've seen it more times than I can count from working there (Oddly I still like Wishes though). I have been on Toy Story and I love it. I will definately be riding that atleast once, hopefully more. Now that you have me thinking, everytime I go to Disney World I always get a Dole Whip from adventureland. That is a must have everytime. I would like to try and hit some things that I haven't rode since I was about 4 yrs old like the Riverboats and Tom Sawyer Island. I know they aren't the most exciting rides, but I haven't seen them in like 20 years so I guess I'm due.
Suzann - Welcome back. Hiking in Yosemite sounds awesome. I love outdoor stuff like that. By the way, did you get those DVDs?
Ok, I'm going to get caught up on my sleep. Talk to everyone later.

Hey gang,....just popping in to say I am still alive and kicking and am going to try and catch up. Life has just been so busy and I just got back from a awesome cruise and time to kick up the training again.
Can someone refresh my oldtimers memory. How and what kind of hours, miles are we tracking??

Hey everyone :)
I just got in from an early morning run yay! I did 2 miles and they felt pretty good, I am considering a 5 mile race this weekend, it might give me a reminder of why I am running :)
Steve - Dole whip is a must, I have to do something kiddy everytime we go, on Christmas day the first thing we did (we were the first in the park :) ) was go on winnie the pooh ride, and a while back I tried Dumbo (my FAVE ride as a kid) only to discover that it now makes me motion sick! I didn't know about the fort wilderness segway thing, might give that a try someday :) I am very jealous that you got to work there, it was my childhood dream but not being an american makes it difficult :(
When are you going? I am going over on Sunday so if I see anything else that is a must I will let you know :)
PS I am sure you would have made a lovely cinderella :lmao: and even if your hair isn't long enough now if you go to cinderella's castle and ask for fairy dust, they have to give it you for free :)
Have a good day guys

Kirsty - I'm leaving for Disney on Sunday too. I don't think I'll get to the parks until Monday though. I'll make sure to stop by the castle for some fairy dust.
Hockeychic - I have just been keeping track of the time and miles of my running and biking along with the time I've spent lifting and playing golf. I think some people are keeping track of yard work and stuff like that too. Basically, I think its anything that gets you off the couch counts towards the totals.
I don't have anymore finals until Friday so I have no excuse to skip exercise for the next few days. Today I'll either go running or biking and maybe some lifting. I also get to start moving from one apartment to another. The good thing is that the new apartment is just down the street a little so it won't be too bad. Thats it for now.

I've been slacking at keeping track of my miles and minutes as well! (Putting hand up in shame) Ha!
Last night I did laundry and unpacked everything from an almost 2 week trip... that counts for something, right? (ok, I can hope)
Steve~ I'm starting tonight hopefully with the program! YAY! I'm hoping I have all the equipment!
Kirsty~ Were you the one that said you gain weight when you run? I'm reading a book right now that just might explain the reasoning behind that!!! Let me know ;)

Suzann I was the one that said I gained weight when I excercise, is there actually a reason behind this??? Any info would be great thanks :)
Suzann
05-05-2009, 03:00 PM
There definitely could be an explanation! I'll have to grab the book tonight and type up a little bit of it since its kind of scientific (and I don't want to get it wrong!) :)

Ok I guess I lied earlier. I really DID have an excuse to not exercise. I spent more time moving than I thought. While I was moving I thought,"I'll just go for a run this evening." Then my friends and I decided we were going to have a few pitchers of margaritas to celebrate Cinco de Mayo and watch the Cavaliers play the Hawks. So unless there is a drunken midnight jog tonight (like Kirsty likes to do), I won't be logging any miles today. Hopefully I'll get some form of exercise in tomorrow. Talk to you guys later.

Hey guys,
Another busy day of moving. I am realizing that I have way too much stuff. No workouts to report. I probably won't get anything in until I get down to disney.
Suzann - Yeah the workouts will eventually get easier. Although I still can't keep up with what they do on the video yet. The only workout where I could do exactly what they did was the Kenpo.
Tomorrow I start my drive to south carolina and then disney so I wont post for a week or two. Talk to you guys later

Hey team!!!!
What video are you all doing? I am starting my circuit training tonight. Need to get off alot of weight before serious Goofy training begins.
Steve: How where the Margaritas?
Suann: WTG on the weights workout!!!
Kirsty: Congrats on healthy eatting!!!!!

Hockeychic - The margaritas were excellent. Everytime we all go out for margaritas, it ends up being a crazy night. After a few pitchers we decided to head to a bar that was in a barn. A couple beers and a few long islands later, we were dancing with some "cougars". And no night of drinking would be complete without waking up the next morning and swearing off alcohol forever.
And Suzann and I are doing the P90X videos. Although I am on a break until after my vacation.

Awww one of those.
I swear if I make it through this I will never drink again:lmao: Not that I have ever done that:rolleyes1:dance3:
Did my circuit last night. Might have to pump it up a bit, didn't feel the burn at all.
Congrats on the P90X, DS looked at buying the set but it was almost $100 so he changed his mind:sad2:

Hi everybody.
Steve...awesome that you're to a point where the weights aren't heavy enough. That shows definite progress. Sound like you had a fun night on Cinco de Mayo. We have to be "cougars" because our husbands don't like to dance anymore;). Luckily with a 15 year old son to dance with I can dance with him and his friends and then I'm just a "fun" mom.
Kirsty...You always sound so full of life...I think it's great that you run to Disney music. It always makes me feel happy.
Allyson...We run on the track, too. With kiddos, it just seems to make sense...they can play, you can see them at all times, and you get to exercise. It's a win, win, other than going in circles! Did you watch the Boston marathon? Did you by chance get any pics of Ryan Hall? I'm trying to get one for DS.
Scott....things sound good with you.
Suzann....the bowling tourney sounds like fun and hiking in Yosemite sounds even better. Do you have any pics?
Kim....a cruise? I'm so jealous. Hope you had fun.
I'm consistently working out, but it's really hard to find the time sometimes. I'm looking forward to the kids being out of school and we can head to the local trails where they can ride bikes and I can run.
Take care all!

Hey guys sorry I have been MIA for a few days its been pretty crazy around here!
Well I am doing a 5 mile race for cancer research tomorrow so I have given myself a few days off to be fresh for that, but today I had a stupid idea which seemed really smart at the time, I have been thinking of other fun exercises to do other than running, just to get my fitness up without pounding my joints so much, so I was walking through Target on my afternoon off, and saw some roller blades on special offer, That seems like a good idea right ...... NO!!!! it was not a good idea! but at this point I didnt know this, I was just thinking, "all the people I see roller blading around look happy, I want to join in" .... NO BAD IDEA, BACK AWAY FROM THE SKATES NOW KIRSTY! (hindsight is brilliant isnt it!) "and I was really good at skating as a kid, just like riding a bike right?" ... NO!!! so I buy the darn skates and cant wait till after my race tomorrow to try them soI run out in the 90 degree weather put on my skates and fancy new pads and ...... fall on my butt! "This is harder than I remember!" So OK its not like riding a bike and maybe I am to old for this, oh wait I am getting the hang of this, (skinny, tall, brown, blonde flies past on her skates, and I fall on my butt!) "those kids cant be laughing at me right?" (Old man tells me to just take it one step at a time) OK time to turn around! So you get the drift, and now my legs are sore from the new activity and my butt hurts, and I have a 5 mile race to do tomorrow, good job Kirsty! :worship:
SO that is my adventures for the week! I am going to keep doing it until I look like that girl going 100 mile an hour on her skates :lmao: I just need to find a less public place to practice!
Suzann - thanks so much for the info, when I get a second to myself I will read it through properly (all those scientific terms need more than a proof read!) but it looks like it might be talking about the same thing that happens to me! PS those pics are awesome I am soooo jealous :)
Steve - How long did you go alcohol free? Have an awesome time on vacation and say hi to the mouse for me!
Allyson - I like to think I am full of life, even when sitting on my butt in a public park! Good job getting out even when you have a million things going on!
Anyway have a good weekend, I have the race tom, then volunteering, then Sun taking the kid to Disney, to do DHS and EPCOT, I think I will need a weekend to sleep after my weekend!
I will let you know how my race goes :)

Kirsty~ How did your race go?
For me, I did a plyometrics DVD on Friday and then went to the climbing gym. On Saturday I had a baseball game (4 and half hours worth) and I caught for 7 innings. My knees aren't used to that. Yesterday I shoveled 12 wheelbarrows full of dirt and then mowed the lawn. Phew! I am SORE today.
How is everyone else doing???

Hi guys...
Suzann...sounds like you had a busy weekend. The pics of Yosemite are absolutely gorgeous!
Kirsty....how'd the race go? I hope you've recovered from the roller blading "incident".
I'm still remaining consistent with exercising. I'm so ready for the older kids to be out of school so I can get outside and run and they can help by watching their littlest brother for awhile. It's a beautiful day today, but the rain looks like it's moving back in.

hey guys, I have been missing for a few days, it has been a busy weekend.
My race went well thanks for asking, it was a 5 miles through USF college campus, and this might sounds crazy but it was hilly!!! :lmao: at least it was hilly for Fl, OK we arent talking mountains here but we were always on some kind of incline/decline and for someone who is used to training on nothing but flat I really felt it! I was already Kind of stiff from the roller skating incident but those hills really put some pressure on my joints! But anyway, we set off at 7 30 and it was already in the 80's the sun was coming up and there was no breeze, but we set off and most of the first mile was mainly down hill and I went WAY to fast out the gate, I finished my first mile in less than 9 mins and then we reached the first "hill" it was then I realized I should have paced myself a little better! So I walked for a few mins to get my breath back then started up again, I finished the second mile in 11 mins, I carried on for the rest of the course walking when my hip gave up on the hills, and when my lungs gave up on the breathing and running as much as I could! I finished in 58 mins (my goal was between 50 and 60 mins so I was pleased) My average was about an 11 min mile (if I am remembering right) and it was a nice race, after there was a cancer survivor celebration and a good food spread so it was a good morning over all.
Then Sat afternoon, I went and volunteered for four hours at the hospitasl and of course they sent me all over, walking around each floor and I was exhausted when I was done! :rotfl:
Sunday we took the kid to Disney :cool1: we went to DHS to watch Beauty and the Beast and Ariel, then after lunch we walked over to EPCOT (via boardwalk) and saw the flower show, then we walked back to DHS and headed home, it was a very nice day but once again I was pooped and went to bed nice and early :cutie:
I gave my body a rest on Mon after a busy weekend, I decided it deserved it, and planned to get up early and train today.
Well today cane around, and I am very sick, I spent all day in bed, (no work for me ) and slept, I was going to go for a walk after dinner but we will just have to see how dinner goes down (and stays down!)
Hopefully I can get myself back on track tomorrow, if I feel up to it!
Hope you guys are all doing well :goodvibes

Whats up Rebels,
I'm back from Disney and it was a great vacation. It was a little more of a laid back Disney trip. We didn't really run around trying to get everything in. Instead, we just sauntered through the parks, grabbed a couple fast passes, and hit the rides that had a short wait. We actually spent a good deal of time in the UK pavilion watching British Invasion. It was definately my kind of Disney trip. I also went to Jellyroll's for the first time. That place is fantastic. I will have to go there in January to either celebrate finishing the half or to forget about not finishing the half. The only activity I had during the trip was a game of golf at Disney's Osprey Ridge. Some how I managed to par two holes and still shoot the worst game of golf ever, but it was still fun.
Suzann - How's that P90X treating you. I thought the chest and back was the most demanding of phase 1. So arms and shoulders felt easier to me too. Nice pics too.
Kirsty - Congrats on the race. I was at DHS that sunday too. We left for Disney at 4am so we got there at noon and decided to hit the studios. I wonder if we passed each other and didn't realize it. Anyway, I hope you feel better.
Tammy - Congrats on the half and good luck on the upcoming full. I wish I had the money to run the DL half. It sounds fun.
Tomorrow morning I'm going to try to get back into the workout habit. I've been off for a couple weeks due to moving and vacation. I will also be watching what I eat very closely. I need to make up for eating way too much not-so-healthy foods at Disney. Thats it for now. Talk to everyone tomorrow.

"A good film is when the price of the dinner, the theatre admission and the babysitter were worth it." ~Alfred Hitchcock
By now, most of you have figured out I like movies. A lot. Perhaps an unhealthy amount. Nevertheless, I think it's fun to talk about movies, especially now that the summer season has started. Wolverine has been released, so has Star Trek, with many more big blockbusters soon to come.
So this week's mixer topic is, predictably enough, summer movies! The start of the mixer, posted on the 'Ohana thread, is here. (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=31868531&postcount=863)
What summer movies are you looking most forward to, and why? Also, how do you like your summer movies?
Feel free to talk about how you choose your flicks: based on directors, your favorite movie star, a beloved genre? And what is your ideal movie experience? Midnight movies or matinees? Chain theaters or independents? Drive-ins? What about the movie-going extras? With or without snacks? Buttered popcorn or chocolate?

I went to a bowling tournament this weekend... almost 10 hours of bowling on Saturday... ugh, I was tired! Yesterday I did an hour of yoga that felt great!
Steve~ I'm doing the dvd's every three or so days because I just don't have that much time between all my other activities. And so far the chest and back has definitely been the hardest. The arms and shoulders felt easy, maybe I didn't do enough weight!
Tonight I have bowling practice, tomorrow is league, thursday is softball.. yay!

Whats up team,
I'm afraid I didn't get back on track with the workouts yesterday. I woke up monday morning with a horrible headache that I guess came from the climate change from Orlando to Charlotte. It was 30 degrees colder in South Carolina than Florida. ANyway that headache lasted all day and no amount of Tylenol would help. I did manage to get back on track with eating healthy though. Hopefully one of these days I'll convince myself to go running.
Suzann - I understand completely. those DVDs are very time consuming.
Also a bit of a sidenote. Go Cavaliers! I really hoping to see Cleveland win a championship. The last time cleveland won a championship in anything was the Indians in like 1948 so the Cavs have got me excited. I hope everyone's training is going well.

Sorry but once again I have been MIA and not posting :rolleyes1 but that doesnt mean I wasn't putting my miles in, Honest:cutie:
I was sick all the beginning of last week so wasn't up for much, then the rest of the week motivation wasn't there and I decided to give myself the whole week to let my body recover :cool1: By Saturday I was in no mood for a run but dragged myself out of bed and went for a 2 miler,my body protested at first but then on the way home I realized I should have run further because when I blew the cobwebs away I felt really good, Sun I decided to try the roller blades again and it was much more successful than the first go, although I got tiered quickly I did 1 mile and then headed out for a day at MK (lots of miles walking round there right :thumbsup2) Monday I ran two miles, Tue I skated two miles (in very windy weather, which was great behind me but bad going towards it!) Day off today and probably a run tomorrow :thumbsup2
Steve - We totally could have both been in DHS at the same time and may have passed each other, how strange :wizard: Glad you had a good vacation and good luck getting back into the healthy lifestyle :thumbsup2
Everyone else, keep up the good wok and speak soon

I did a two mile run this morning with Moose. It wasn't the most organized or efficiant run with him having to check out every smell along the way, but it still counts. Hi Rebels,
I'm here for moral support (really, I just need to whine a bit so I can get over it. Sunday started my taper for the Rock 'n Roll marathon - supposed to do an easy 12 miles, right? WRONG! By mile 5 I had to quit and hobble back to my car (at least i got another 1/2 mile of distance in!!) due to pain in my ankle.
I was going to ignore it, but combined with knee pain and hip pain and IT band pain, I figured I should fork over the $20 and see the doctor... here's the pity part... I have acute achilles tendonitis and must stay off it completely for as long as possible. Add ice baths to that, and I'm officially miserable! Now don't misunderstand me, I love getting doctor's orders to be a couch potato, but not right before a marathon!!! I'm freaking out but doing my best to stay positive. Did I mention that freaking out includes consumption of massive amounts of M&Ms? I couldn't get a prescription for Oxy so they'll just have to do (J/K). So now I'll be off to the race with bum knees, hobbled ankle and an extra 10 lbs of blubber due to sitting on my **** and eating for a week and a half. Are you crying with me yet?
Sounds like you're all doing well and staying on track (OK, there is a bit of poor me in that too)... Just slap me, I'll get over it

I swear...I'm still working out, I'm just not posting. Between all the end of the year activities for the kids, it's been crazy around here.
Tammy....sorry to hear about the tendonitis, but you'll be just fine. A little bit of couch potato time will fuel you to be ready to run when the date comes! Just take it easy and don't be too hard on yourself about the M&M's....they're better then eating a whole chocolate cake, gallon of ice cream, or any one of a number of things.;)
Steve...I just "ran" with my dog last night. It was really more of a walk/run and he had to stop and smell everything....it makes for an interesting run doesn't it?
Kirsty....Are you feeling back to normal?
Suzann...
Take care!

Whats up team,
Sorry I haven't been on lately. I have been swamped ever since I got back from disney. My parents just found out that they are going to be moving back to Ohio for my dad's job. That has made home life a little hectic. I am actually in Canton Ohio right now, looking at houses with my dad. Over Memorial day, I went to my first NASCAR race. It was supposed to be on Sunday, but it got rained out (the first time in 50 years...figures). We had to go back to Lowes Motor Speedway Monday to watch the race. It was still fun and I would like to go to another one. You have to love a sporting event that allows you to bring your own coolers. Today I am driving back to South Carolina and hopefully I can find a job for the summer. Workouts have fell off this month, but I hope I can squeeze them in.
Oh, I have also been watching the Cavs play Orlando in the NBA playoffs (Kirsty, you're in enemy territory. ). Hopefully the Cavs can win the next two games and knock the Magic out.
Suzann - Unfortunately, the videos have kind of slipped away. I should be at my parents house for the rest of the summer so I have no excuse not to start them up again. I think I'll try to pick it up on Monday. How are you're workouts going? Seeing improvements yet?
Thats all I have for now. I promise I will try to log on more often. It has been a chaotic May.

Hey team,
I finally got back into the DVDs today. I really need to start running again, but one step at a time I guess. I also talked my parents into taking me back down to disney for a star wars weekend. I told them since we are moving back to ohio, this is our last chance for a last minute disney trip. I also told them that since we are annual pass holders and DVC members, we can't afford not to go. so next weekend ill be in the world for a few days. I've never been to a star wars weekend before, but it seems like an experience. I'll try to take some pictures for everyone, but I'm horrible at remembering to stop what im doing and take pictures.
Suzann - Yeah I'm pretty busy. We just got the house up for sale so things should start to calm down a bit. Those DVDs are pretty time consuming. its hard to squeeze them in. I didn't know you were a golfer. I like to pretend I am, but my score doesn't show it (My goal this summer is to break 100).

Hi Team! I'm back from the San Diego Rock 'n Roll marathon, and I'm happy to report that 1) I did start the race, 2) I did finish the race (in spite of that nagging tendonitis) and 3) I got a PR!! Slowly but surely I'm approaching the realm of times I can mention without people wondering if I ever run LOL!!
This was an especially tough marathon for me as I ran it alone for over 14 miles (I always run with a friend) AND I was truly injured. I had decided to just do what I could... until mile 12 when I got frustrated by my split time and tried to run the rest at a negative split! I succeeded, and paid the price in aches and pains... but like they say, pain is temporary, but your times live on the internet forever!!:rotfl:
I can see that I have a little catching up to do here... I'll try to get back this week :) Thanks again for letting me be a part of this team!!:yay:

Hello all. The team roster was just updated on post #1. Let me know any changes that need to be made.
I got my butt kicked on my first true hill workout that I have ever done. I couldn't start nice and easy. I had to go to the biggest hill in the town and hammer it. I did about 1/2 of what I thought I was going to do. The HR still got up there and I would still consider it a good workout. instead of doing 10 1/4 mile runs, I did 5 - .15 mile runs.
Hope everyone is doing well!

Kirsty - are you coming to the DL 1/2? I saw your name on the WISH EVENT thread, wondered if you had committed... if so, we should really meet up!

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:
This one is JenG's very good question to the cousins, excerpted, about the difference between building a base and training for a race. The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32176694&postcount=989) on the 'Ohana thread.
What is the difference between maintaining or building a base and training for a race? I've only been running for a year and I've either been taking time off running or training for a race. What is just building a base?
How is your approach (mental or otherwise) and exercise routine different when building your base versus training? Do you run less? Do different exercises? Approach the run differently psychologically?

Tammy, I got it updated.
Suzann, the soreness wasn't too bad probably because I cut the workout to about 40% of what I origionally planned.

Ooops, I just realized that I haven't posted miles or minutes in ages. So sorry team! It got to the point where I was posting on 4 or 5 different spreadsheets (I'm active on Spark People too, and different teams there were tracking) and I got overwhelmed and just stopped. I'll try to be better for June...
How is everyone doing? Kirsty - have you gotten your internet issue resolved?
Scott - how is the Star wars stuff? Sounds like fun...
Steve - what did you cut by 40%? P90x?
Suzann - broken derailluer? You're scaring me! I have that DL duathlon this weekend and I'm NOT much of a cyclist!
DH just got home, I've got to scoot...

Tammy... sorry you didn't get into the NYC marathon... grrr!!! And the broken derailer was just happen stance... wouldn't normally happen at all! You're going to rock the event!
Well, I had a bowling tournament this past weekend... ten hours of bowling on saturday and 8 hours on Sunday. Phew, I was beat!
Scott... I don't really golf, I just go to the driving range and hit. :)

Hi Rebels!
I've started a new thread to keep track of the rosters more easily. I expect interest in teams will start to pick up soon as the training to train and full-on training for the fall races start.
The link to this new thread is here (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2198827), and it will include the rosters on the first post and monthly totals for all the teams on the second. Other posts will be for requests and new information.
Suzann and/or Scott, could you please send me an updated roster for your team? The active members, for an accurate count, please. TIA! :goodvibes

Hi everyone! I was sent over here by Debra. :)
My name is Ashley. I currently live in Hampton Roads, Va. and I just completed my first 5k this weekend at the Komen Global Race for the cure up in DC. My SIL talked me into doing the Princess 1/2 marathon next year.
I am taking off of running this week as "recovery" and I can't wait to start again next week. I think I may be hooked.
I am using Galloway as my training method, so I won't really be logging a lot of time or miles at the start.
I really look forward to chatting with everyone and learning about running more, since I'm so new to this!

I'm sending another new team mate your way! Please welcome VernRDH, Veronica. She'll be running the Disney 1/2, as well as another race. I'm sure you'll all make her feel :welcome:
Have a great day!
Thanks Deb for the introduction!
My name is Veronica, I am 38, wife, mother to a 9yoprincess: and a dental hygienist, working full time. I started running again 2 years ago, when I lost 50 lbs. I still need to lose another 50, but that is another story.
I will be running my very first 1/2 marathon this September, so I started my training program last week. I am training with my 57yo MIL and 66yo FIL. FIL is racing with me, MIL won't race, but will train. We will be doing some 5ks here and there, and I will be doing a 15k in November as well. I am looking forward to the Disney 1/2, as this is my 40th birthday race (though my B-day isn't until Nov, but you know what I mean). We are doing the Disney 1/2 with some other friends from around the country, then cruising for a week. I am not concerned with time, just finishing. Although, my DH's cousin just did her 40th b-day half this past sunday, finishing in 2:34 (her brother ran too, finishing in 1:27-he's done Ironman, he's good). FIL says, we can beat 2:34, no problem. I don't know for sure, but I could give it a go.
I will try to catch up on this thread when I get time, but if someone could direct me to where I need to post my miles/minutes and how/when etc. that would be great.
Thanks for letting me play in your sandbox. :flower3:

Hey Rebels....
Warrior in the House!! I know, I know, you all are just flabergasted right??:lmao:
As prevously stated, Debra and I are trying to put together a more current WISH smaller teams thread. Keeping the teams members names current and getting people on a team that want to be.
Also on that thread is a post which I am doing that will show how all of the teams are doing.
So....... Please start a new thread each month. On the first post please include the teams total Miles and Minutes. This will make it much easier on my part to look up each teams numbers. Please don't post a link to a spreadsheet. Lots of numbers to keep track of, so having it out there in plain sight makes it easier for me (and other teams to stop by and check it out)
And with that said....Thanks again for PM'in gme with your totals so far!!
It was very helpful!!
Thanks Rebels!!!:thumbsup2

Hey Team,
I'm still around. My summer is way busier than I anticipated. The workouts have been sporadic but thats better than nothing i guess. I haven't been keeping up with the spreadsheet, but I have all my numbers written down. I'll have to copy them to the spreadsheet at some point so you guys can see I haven't been slacking.
Tammy - I honestly can't remember what I cut by 40%. Hopefully it was good like body fat or something (I know thats not the case). Actually, now that I'm typing this, I think I remember. It was coffee I think.
Anyway, tomorrow I leave for Disney again. I'm excited even though I probably won't hit too many rides. I know I said I was going for Star Wars weekends, but I might have to spend a day at EPCOT. Its my favorite park and my favorite firework show. Plus, I could watch British Invasion with a beer all day long. Talk to everyone in a few days.

hey guys watsup?
I have once again been really slack on posting, between the silly computer acting up and work and training I just dont get the chance to at the moment.
Anyway, I have started my training this week and havent missed one run so far! I did 1.5 on tue, 3 on wed, 1.5 today and tomorrow is a well deserved rest day :goodvibes I have even started to like getting up in the mornings to run :confused3 it is so pretty out and I run by the water as the sun rises, it makes getting out of bed totally worth it!
I will try and put up the mins and miles, but I have also been slack on that, so I will try to remember what I can, now I have a fixed schedule it should be easier because I know what I have done!
I took the kid to Busch Gardens yesterday and it was close to 100 degrees out and I pushed a stroller round the park for 6 hours, needless to say I was tiered for this mornings run!
Hello to the new girlys, you have been put in a great group and I hope we can encourage you to continue staying healthy :goodvibes
Suzann - I hope your arm didn't fall off after all of that bowling :lmao: and nope not got the internet fixed yet, we cant figure out if it is the internet or the mac, which is a problem because we dont know who to call and yell at!
Steve - awesome you get to come back down here, dont forget your sunblock *** it is HOT!!! enjoy the star wars and the EPCOT fireworks, they are my favorite as well :thumbsup2
Scott - good job on the hill run, sorry it was not as you had planned, I was thinking about putting some hill work in my marathon training, then I looked around and realized there wasn't a hill in sight!
Anyway have a good day everyone, the kid is in an awful mood so mine should be fun :scared1:

Hi again,
We didn't get back from baseball until late last night, so I missed my run. Now I'll pay for it today. Anyway, a little bit about me...
I ran back in high school, but that was long, long ago. I've been trying to get back into it for years but kept getting derailed by pregnancies, babies, and life. I had been trying to do the C25K since last September and kept stopping. I finally started again in March and found a neighbor to do it with me. Having someone to run with has helped lots! We did our first 5K last Saturday in DC, Race for the Cure. My time was 38:28, no speed records but I ran the whole way!
Now I'm trying to decide what to do next. I checked out the Galloway training plan and it looks interesting, but I can't figure out the walking break ratio. It seems like a lot of walking breaks.
Any suggestions on where to go from here? Do I just keep at it and keep adding more time and distance? What should a typical week look like?
Thanks, I'm excited to join you!
Suzann

Hi Chrissy!!!
I don't really have any suggestions on training (my training schedule is skewed due to my life schedule)
I do want to say WAY TO GO on the 5K!!! I love the smaller races! And how awesome that you ran the entire way! Not a lot of people can say that!!!
How did the baseball game go last night? Any wins??

Galloway believes that walking helps you recover and makes your runs more efficient. I haven't finished the book yet, but what I've read so far makes sense.
My SIL used it with great success to train for a full marathon.
It isn't one-size fits all, but it is working for me. I find that I am much less sore after workouts and more willing to up my routine this way. I have a habit of thinking I can do more than I really can and then regretting it the next day, and this training keeps me from doing that.
I didn't like C25K as much as I like this program. I can't explain why, but I do.

I guess I'm going to have to get the book and figure it out. I like the idea, it sounds much easier. The only problem I have is that when I start running again from walking my shins get really tight. But maybe if I'm not running for as long it will be better.
Suzann, they won one and lost one, thanks for asking.

Hi all-
I posted my miles and minutes on the spreadsheet, hope it comes out okay! I did from the beginning of the month, even though I wasn't on the team quite yet, trust me its not a lot of miles, but enough minutes LOL. Hope that is okay.
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend-had nice weather this morning for a run and hoping tomorrow is cool for our long run (though this week is only 4 miles, not long at all really). But that is what the program calls for, so that's what I'll do. Following the program. Now if only I could get with the program for my food we might have something.....................

hey guys
How r all doing?
I did my walk day yesterday but couldnt do my 3 mile today since I was sick this morning, but I plan to exchange it for my rest day tomorrow so I dont miss out on any training!
I have decided that the mickey will not be enough to satisfy me in 2010 so I will be going for my first Goofy as well! I am so excited about all those medals but I have to be as good with my training as I can possibly be, the family I live with has already planned a whole long weekend down at Disney so I cant wait!
Steve - where did you get ur P90X thingy from, we saw a comercial for it today but it seemed really expensive, did it work do you think?
Everyone else - I am enjoying reading the new members stories and am happy you could join are group. If anyone has any Goofy training tips they are more than welcome!
Hope you all have a good week

Is there a link to the team spreadsheet?
It is nasty and rainy outside today, so there went my hopes of doing my run with the baby in the jogger. I'll have to wait for DH to get home from work so I can run solo. Yet another reason I need a treadmill! LOL.
How was everyone's weekend?

Veronica~ You entered your stuff on the spreadsheet perfectly! YAY

Keep running :goodvibes (I get a little mantra in my head from Dory (Finding Nemo) "Just get running.. running.. running.. that's what we do..." Hey team,
I'm back from disney and I had a blast. Its a little weird seeing Star Wars guys walking around the park, but definately fun. I was more entertained by the other guests than by the disney-planned stuff. I am working in exercise when I can, but its not where I want it to be. I'll update the spread sheet at some point.
Kirsty - My dad bought the P90X dvds on ebay or amazon used. I just burnt a copy of his dvds so I only paid for the blank dvds. They are very expensive new and I don't have that kind of money. I am in awe that youre doing the Goofy in january. You might just inspire me to try a full marathon in the future.
Welcome to all the new people. This is a great team. I'll try to get on the boards a little more often so I can get know everyone.

Hi Everyone! Welcome Ashley, Veronica and Chrissy!!!:dance3: This is a great team and everyone is very supportive; I'm betting you'll love it here!
Ok, catch up time: After the Marathon I took two weeks off to try to let my achilles tendon/IT band heal. I had that duathlon at Disneyland looming but I was having some disturbing knee pain and buckling... I showed up for the duathlon and did it in a knee brace and with kinesio tape - but even that didn't help with the last run... oh well, I finished and had fun. That's all that matters, right?
Now I'm on total rest again! Seeing the ortho doc tomorrow, maybe he can tell me when I can run again... So I don't have much to add to the spreadsheet, but I will still try to get over there and put in the duathlon stuff. I'm afraid I'm not contributing much this month, and I completely forgot to put in anything last month :guilty: Sorry!
Suzann - all that bowling sounds exhausting. Does your hand hurt as well as your arm? I don't bowl much, but when I do my fingers and wrist hurt. Probably doing it all wrong!
Kirsty - Way to go on the training and the goal setting!! Goofy in 2010 - WOW! I'm thinking maybe 2011... I will be doing a full, a half and then the Princess 1/2 all in a month's time... assuming I can still walk!:rotfl2:
Scott - thanks for updating the list!
Steve - you sure are getting a lot of trips to WDW... I'm jealous! Now that your folks have moved will you be going as often?
Ashley - I saw your posts on the Princess 1/2 thread... I'm just lurking for now as I haven't signed up yet, but I did it last year and enjoy seeing who is coming back... congrats on your 5k!
Veronica and Chrissy - same to you! Fast is a relative thing, you may think you're slow but I may think you're really fast... I try not to worry too much about the times.
I use Galloway, varying my intervals based on the run. LSD and long races I use a 1:1 ratio; weekday training runs and short races I go longer, usually 5:1 or 7:1. Just depends on how I'm feeling.
I'm off to bed, got to get up for that Dr.'s appt!
Its nice to be back... TTFN

Hey Rebels!
Watsup?
So the Goofy training is coming along well! I actually signed up yesterday and that makes it kinda real! (especially when its like $300!!!) so I am just getting my base miles up at the moment and I haven't missed a run yet! I took Sunday off because I was sick but did Sundays 3 miles on Mondays rest day, so i haven't missed any miles, this weeks total so far is 9 miles with my weekend runs still to go, I have a long way till I get in Goofy shape but I have 6 months so I think I will be ok :scared:
Steve - thanks for the info on the DVD's, do you think they worked? Glad you enjoyed WDW when is your next trip planned for? I am going over next week to take the Kid to Typhoon for the day but I guess that is the advantage of living an hour away ;) I think you should go for the Marathon some day, you know you want that Mickey medal (thats the only reason i am doing Goofy, More BLING!)
Suzzan - Thanks for the tip! I have been using that saying quite a lot lately, infact I use the swimming version to teach the kid how to swim, I think she might hate Nemo by the time she is done!!!
Tammy - I hope the legs feel better, good job on all the races this past few weeks :thumbsup2 and I think you should go for Goofy 2011 (and I have no hopes of being able to walk afterwards in fact I my dad told me I wont have the strength to hold my fancy medals on my neck afterward!!!)
Veronica - Good job on the miles, it doesnt matter how few they all count here! I hope you had a nice run the other day and I look forward to chatting to you more in this wonderful group!!!
Chrissy - How is the Galloway studying going? well I hope :) Have the kids had anymore games? I am Nanny to a 3yr old and we took her to her first soccer practice! It was interesting to say the least!!!
Ashley - Is the Galloway program still treating you well? I hope everything is good :)
Anyway got to get back to work, no rest for the Wicked!!!
Speak to you all soon and Happy Running :)

Kirsty - Yeah, I think the DVDs work if you stick with them. The problem is that it is very tough to find time and get motivated for intense workouts six days a week. Inevitably something comes up where you miss a day and then your whole schedule is thrown off. I did manage to stick with it very strickly for about a month and I saw huge results. I gained a ton of mass in my chest and biceps (thats why i wasn't losing weight when I did it). Unfortunately, between moving apartments and helping my parents move from south carolina to ohio, I fell off the wagon. Oh yeah, I'm a little jealous of your hour drive to disney. I thought I had it good with an 8 hour drive.
Tammy - You're right. we won't get to go to Disney as much now that my parents are moving. I guess I'll have to keep my eye on Southwest Dings. Right now, my next trip isn't until January for the marathon. I am watching for cheap flights in October so I can go to food and wine fest during my fall break, but thats a bit of a long shot.
I do plan on running a few miles with my dog today. Hopefully, if the heat isn't blistering, I can go to the driving range too.

Hi friends!
Just want to say thanks for all the warm welcomes-much appreciated. I am plodding along, doing my thing. So far this month I have run 47 miles. Seems like so much more!
Yesterday was a 2 miler I missed on Thurs, which I did fast, 20:26, which for me is absolutely flying. I did do a short walk after the first mile (which I did in 9:41), but that let me catch my breath enough to power through the second mile. Then I went home and laid patio blocks, about 130 of them, still not done with this $%@#$ thing. In the midst of my masonry, FIL calls to say he is picking me up at 6:15 for our long run on Sunday, and oh by the way, we're doing the hills route. ARE YOU NUTS:scared: 6 miles with over half hilly? But I went and did it, but boy am I feeling it now.:upsidedow
I got some new gear yesterday too-I got a pair of Race Ready shorts with the built in fuel belt and a couple of small water bottles for it. They worked out really well. I had my powerbar before the run, then had a few sportbeans at mile 3 (at the base of the final killer hill BTW). I wasn't sure how many you were supposed to eat, I only took like 4 of them. I can't tell you if they helped me or not cause I was DYING on the 30%incline we were going up. Oh yeah and its like half a mile long to boot. Not trying to be a whiner, but I really just want to do long runs at a nice even pace on flatter roads just to be able to build up my endurance. I know the hills help but I would rather do them on short runs than my long ones. Is that wrong or crazy? Thanks for letting me vent!
Good luck with training this week everyone. Hope the weather cooperates!

I asked a variation of this on team thread, but it makes for a good general prompt. Lots of us are finalizing our late summer/fall/early 2010 race schedules and/or in training for them. So let's talk events. Two questions:
What event have you committed to that you're most looking forward to, Disney marathon weekend excluded? And
What are you most looking forward to about Disney marathon weekend, if you are attending? (With sympathy :grouphug: to those who are not.)

Hi everyone!!
I have been horrible with my runs this week. DH is "gone" and our jogging stroller is busted, so running is impossible.
I wish he'd break down and let me get a treadmill. I could run during naptime, at night, in the am, and never have to worry about dragging the baby with me or waiting for him to be home to go. It is very frustrating. Plus, our neighborhood is not very runner friendly, and I'm having a hard time getting my Saturday distance runs in.
I've been scouring craigslist for used treadmills in the hopes I can somehow convince him.

I'm thinking I'm ready for a treadmill too, I just don't do well running with the stroller. I usually wait for DH to get home to go too, but my running buddy is moving in a couple weeks and I don't want to go at night by myself. Starting tomorrow we are going to try to go at 5:30 in the morning before everyone gets up. Of course this morning at 5:15 my little guy hollered out and acted like he was going to wake up. I hope he doesn't decide to get up early when I try to run early. A treadmill would definitely help!

Hi everyone! Back from the Ortho and in phys therapy 3x a week... no running for me for awhile, so I'm hoping to cycle to keep fit. Just 4 weeks until the next race
Apparently something is wrong with all parts of my leg! Limited range of motion in my ankle, which led to tendonitis, which led to tight outer calf muscles, which probably led to IT band syndrome, which pulled my kneecap off track and to the outside of my knee, which strained my inner quad... you get the picture. Of course its all related... so lots of rehab in my future. Beware of poor body mechanics!
Kirsty - I give you credit! 6 days a week? That sounds exhausting! Are you using any intervals? I hope you don't suffer any overuse injuries...
Suzanne, where are you off to this week? Wherever, hope you have a great time!
Steve - did you make it to the driving range? Run with the dog? My St. Bernard can't even handle a walk in this heat. We have to take her early in the morn (and she likes to sleep in!) or in the late evening, after the sun sets. But then again, she's a lot bigger than your pup!
Veronica - I feel your pain! Of course you'll be better off for having done the hill on a lsd run, but who wants to go through that? We have a long (1.25 mile) hill on our club run and at the start of each season everyone hates it but by the end of the season it doesn't seem like such a big deal... so "just keep running, just keep running, just keep running"... and feel free to vent anytime!
Ashley - good luck finding that treadmill! I'll keep my fingers crossed for you!
Off to bed, have a great weekend (I know its only hump day, but I probably won't be back before Monday!)

Tammy-hope your leg is feeling better. Amazing how one thing leads to another with mechanics and such.
I had an interesting moment yesterday. DD made a new friend at school this year and wanted to invite the girl and her family to our cookout next Friday. So she calls the girl and I end up talking to the mom, who I haven't met before. Just chatting and I mention that I am training for my first half marathon. She exclaims "Wow, you must be really athletic" and my immediate reaction was "no, I'm just a 38 year old working mom and wife who decided to do this before her 40th birthday". As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I thought that perhaps it was the wrong thing to say. I am not what one would call "athletic" but is that really so? Hard for me to think of myself that way I guess.
On the training front, I have been down all week with a sinus infection. My last run was on Tuesday, 3 miles. Tomorrow is our long run day and I was thinking of going out. I run with my inlaws usually, as FIL is racing with me in Sept and at Disney. But when he called today, he says MIL wants to do the same route as last week with all the hills. If I felt better I might be game, but not having run all week and having sinus/congestion issues, I just don't know. I am still on the fence about going. Plus DH has to work in the morning and I would rather be in the neighborhood to get home sooner for DD.
I can run a 6 mile route through my neighborhood and the one behind us. Still haven't decided, probably should soon.

Yay another new Rebel! Welcome Ed I hope you like your new home, we are all here to listen to you complain about bad days and brag about good ones :cool1::rotfl:
I am still having shin issues, I went for a walk this morning, even though I knew I wasn't ready for putting my shoes back on I was dying to go out, so I walked at an easy pace for about 4 miles..... and now I have ice packs on both of my legs  I am so frustrated all I want to do is go out and start Goofy training but each time I put on my shoes it hurts so bad, I am going to get them looked at by the shoe person today but each time I have been to the store it was just her teenage assistant (dont know if she is on vacation or what) I really hope that she is there today and maybe I can get it fixed :) so I am pretty blue right now :sad2:
Anyway I hope everyone else's training is going well
Happy running :cheer2:

Poor Kirsty:sad2: I'm feeling blue right with you. My ankle is swollen the size of a gorilla foot and my knee isn't much better... so no running still for me and I'm really in a funk. I feel your pain! Do you think the shin splints are from upping your mileage? Did you overdo it in your Goofy training? I think you're on the right track with the shoes though, that can be a cause too. Feel better soon!
Veronica, did you go out with the in-laws or stay in your neighborhood? I hope your sinuses are feeling better!
Welcome Ed!!

The mixer starts here (http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=32479517&postcount=1077) on the 'Ohana thread.
:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer:stitch:
Ah, it's summer. The 4th of July is right around the corner. Summer always strikes me as the time for family vacations and road trips. And I'm sure many of us who are traveling are either participating in races--and :worship: to those of you doing events in the summer heat--or we're continuing to train. So...these random thoughts made me think about the challenges of traveling for WISHers, whether traveling to an event or for other reasons.
This week's mixer asks you to share your best tips and strategies for traveling. We're interested in all things related to staying active on the road, from packing your gear to what kind of exercise you prioritize while squeezed for time and in unfamiliar territory.
A sampling of possible questions: What are the must-brings? How much to pack? How to pack your gear--tips and mistakes to avoid? How to best deal with bulky shoes and stinky clothes? What kind of XT do you do while away from home--do you have anything you bring with you?? What about your guidelines for running/walking in areas with which you're unfamiliar?
I'll probably ask a race-specific traveling question closer to January, but tips on race packing are always appreciated. And those of you who are on the road frequently, for business or pleasure, your expertise is much appreciated. :thumbsup2

I did neither! I called FIL on Sat night and begged off, thinking I would just go out on my own. But when I woke up Sun morning, I just could not go. My head is still so congested and now I am coughing quite a bit (this is how these things usually go for me). So I too am not running until I get better. Hoping to get back out by this weekend, we have a 7miler on sunday.
How did your ankle get so swollen? I fortunately have not experienced any foot/leg problems and hope I don't but I can imagine how frustrating it can be. Feel better soon. You too Kirsty!!
Welcome Ed!!

Hey guys,
I went and bought new shoes yesterday :cool1::cool1: I spend sop many $$$$ on them it isnt even funny, but the lady said that I had worn my shoes down to nothing and my insoles were obliterated (in only 5 months!!!) the good new is that they were wearing evenly so I think the problem was that I was running with virtually no sole on my shoes, I don't have great foot anatomy anyway and I think this just made it worse! So I took today off and I am going to try the new shoes out tomorrow when training hopefully can resume :cool1:
Tammy and Veronica I hope you are both feeling better and can get back on that tarmac soon as possible :grouphug:
Hope everyone else is doing well :goodvibes

Hey everybody. I just got assigned to the team and am excited about being a part. I hope I can help. My name is Ed Harrell and I'm from Montgomery Alabama. 40 years old and married with 3 kids. I started running 2 years ago when my DW challenged me to run a marathon before my 40th birthday. Before my 1st full, I did 3 10k's and 2 1/2's and loved it. I ran the WDW full this year. I'm running the Goofy this year but in between, I'll pick up some local 5k's and 10k's along with 1 or 2 halves. I'm trying to average about 20 miles a week but it is really hard in the heat we've been having here recently. Our lows have been around 75-80 for the last few weeks with very thick humidity!!!! High's in the high 90's. Miserable running conditions for outside and I hate the dreadmill. Anyway, I'm glad to be on the team and look forward to seeing everyone at WDW. I probably won't get a WISH shirt because I run for a charity called Team ASK but I will say "Hey" to everyone I see wearing lime green!

What have I missed!??! :flower3:

I'm looking less elephant-like and more human, but still no running for me  This is getting old, so I went for a bike ride! 20 miles and it felt so good...:rolleyes1 I'm going to have to do more of that until I heal, I guess.
Kirsty - I'm so glad you got new shoes!! Now start logging how many miles you put on them, you should get new ones between 250-400 miles, even if they don't look worn (which obviously wasn't the case with yours!). I'll bet your shins will be feeling good now...
Veronica, hope your head clears up soon! How awful...
Suzanne, where in Alaska did you go? I'm going on a cruise there in August, was just drooling over the shore excursions... think I'll take a heli flight over the glaciers! Can't wait.... its been 100 degrees here for a week and I'm HOT. Enough already!
Welcome again ED! We welcomed you earlier on the page, but I don't know if you've read back at all... Sounds like you'll help our team totals a lot :yay: I'm nearly 49 and have 2 kids; I started running 2 years ago with the goal of doing a marathon before I was 50. I did my first at 47 and have done another full and a bunch of 1/2's since then. I am currently on the walking wounded list and have been forbidden to run by my doc but that's gonna have to end real soon as I have a 1/2 in 3 weeks... no training done, but hey, things could be worse, right :rotfl:
Have to post my biking minutes to July... see ya!

Hi All - I am new to WISH and am happy to have been added to your team. My name is Manda, I am 29 and from Northern Utah. I am currently a walker - as running still causes havock with my knees. I am working on it though. I finished my first half marathon at DL on September 6th. Finished in 3 hours (and 52 seconds, but I dont' count those). I haven't signed up for any new races yet, but I want to continue getting in shape.

Heh, new to the team. My name is Tim. I been running consistently since the birth of my daughter. I was wondering how to get to the spreed sheet so I can put my numbers in.
