Hi - We are heading to Disney in early June and are spending our second week off property at the Sheraton Vistana Resort. We are mainly looking to relax and spend some quality time together after a busy week at the parks. My question is what building/area should I request to be close to the main pool/eating area etc.? Our children are 14, 12, 9 and 1 so location is important to us. Also do all of the villas have balconies? If not is this something I can request as well? My husband and I would love to be able to sit out with a glass of wine after the kids go to bed. We have a two bedroom villa. I really appreciate any advice you have to offer.:) :) :)

Hi.....

All the villas have balconies or patios.

Some of the newer sections offer elevator buildings and are 4-5 stories high (Lakes and Cascades).

The ones that do not have elevators are either 2 or 3 stories high.

There are 7 pools. When you say the "main" pool, people see that in different ways. Some will say the newest Cascades has the main pool. Others would consider the older section with the Super pool as the main pool.
The Cascades and Lakes pools are zero depth entry pools with some fountains in them. The Fountains pool has a rock formation with a water fall. The older Falls pool has a slide.

So it just depends on what you want. I'd just request "close to pool" in your reservation. I suggest filling out the Diamond Lane online request form :

https://www.mystarcentral.com/services/diamond.jsp?propertyId=01&IM=SVO_RC_DIA_SVR

Any other questions, please feel free to ask.......

Thanks so much Maria - for the request link as well - Now I just need to decide which pool is best for us. Zero entry is nice for the baby, but Im sure my "big Kids" would like the slide!

How big/fun is the slide?

Do they charge a parking fee?

Please explain the no housekeeping rate - do they have self service trash dump areas? Does the rate include them cleaning up when we check out?

I am curious if anyone has experience with this resort on whether or not they easily grant room requests? How about upgrades?

no parking fee
if you are exchanging they do a mid week cleaning with no charge.

the definitely do the room request - if they can. can't with RCI or II - you get what the reservation says.

don't about upgrades.

Requests are hit or miss at Vistana. I have gotten my requests about 85% of the time though. I suggest putting your requests in the online form I provided and backing it up with a fax to the attention of the Vistana Room Controller : Fax 407 239 3111

Not sure what you mean by an "upgrade" bzzybee ? You have a 2 bedroom villa and there are no 3 bedrooms at Vistana.

We are headed here in about 3 weeks. How far is it to Disney? Do we need to rent a car or is there a shuttle etc? We have never been to Disney and just traded our timeshare through II. Anything we should know? We will be just 3, dh and I along with ds(almost 3)

It is very close to Downtown Disney. I think they have shuttle buses, but we had a car. It is a nice resort!

I highly recommend a car Alisonh. It's a 10-15 min drive to the parks. It's a 5 min drive to DD/Marketplace. There are shuttles but they are like $8/person/day. And the shuttle times are not the most convenient. It's much cheaper to rent a car. And the resort itself is very large and having a car to get around there is a benefit unto itself.

Do you have a 1 or 2 bedroom reserved ? I suggest you fill out and submit the online Diamond Lane form that I posted the link to in a couple posts above. I don't think you'll have any trouble getting one since you are trading via II, but just in case, request a newly remodeled room or the Cascades section.

Maria,

Which sections have been completed in the re-model? Last time we went in 2007 we stayed in the Fountains II, I think, and we liked it it was quite close to the Fountains pool with the waterfall. Is that area upgraded or no? Some of my family will be staying there in May for our gathering and I want to make sure we get a recently renovated room, if possible.

Thanks!

I was issued a "guest certificate" through Interval International (my parents timeshare) for a full week at Sheraton Vistana. (2BR Villa, sleeps 8). We just realized that 4/27-5/1 will go unused (4 nights). It's non-refundable so I'm trying to figure out how I could offer these four nights to someone who might be interested. It would be $90 per night (that INCLUDES taxes), so it's a great deal for the 2 BR villa.

Can I post a thread offering it? I can't figure out how to contact a moderator for the disboards to figure out if it's legal.

Any suggestions?

I will be visiting here May 22-29. I will have me, hubby and 4 teens ages 16 -18. From the sounds of it I need to try and get in the cascades if possible. Is that where the pool bar is also. Is this the biggest and nicest pool for the teens to spend some down time after the parks.

The biggest pool is the Super Pool over in the older area near the Courts and Spas. Zimmies restaurant is over there and there is a bar at the pool. The Cascades has a bar, as does the Fountains pool. So I'm not sure why you specifically only want the Cascades, but I think you and your family will enjoy this section. No matter which section you are in, you can swim in any of the seven pools.

Interval Intl doesn't allow the renting of their weeks. If they found out (and they monitor popular websites) the whole week could be cancelled and or your parents account could be suspended. Not worth the risk. Just let the four nights go unused if you can't find a friend or family member who wants to use them.

We've often used these for partial weeks. It still comes out to a pretty good daily rate compared to renting something the same size.

I was just thought I was seeing that the Cascades are nicer and better to get. I dont know really where would be the best so maybe the fountains or Cascade would be good for all of us.

Hi Maria,

So will the total refurbishment of all units be done by January 2011? My sister would love to stay in a 2 bedroom at this resort because of all the swimming pools and activities. She just wants to wait until all refurbishments of the 2 bedrooms are finished. :)

Hi -- I have some questions about the Vistana Resort that i hope you experts can help answer!

We are planning a one-week trip for November and will book the resort using an Interval International Getaway (where you pay cash instead of trade your timeshare, only available to II members).

I will book a 2-br that accommodates 8 -- we'll have six adults and one child. Obviously we'd like a renovated unit, and I have seen the renovation schedules posted here and at RedWeek.com and it seems like almost all accommodations will be finished by November.

We must have either a ground-floor room or a unit accessible via elevator due to some in our party with mobility issues. We don't need a specific handicapped unit, just something that doesn't involve stairs.

I've noticed the resort request form posted on Pg1 of this thread, so I'm guessing we'll use that as the time for our trip approaches to make our requests.

Which specific buildings/areas should we request to suit our party's needs? Is there any way to insure getting something that doesn't require stairs? I know that most hotel requests are just that -- requests -- and involve no guarantees, but in this case I'd kinda like one. ;)

Thanks very much!!!

Hi Rae,
First of all....I'd guess only about 50-60% of the resort will be completely rehabbed by Nov. The rehab is slated to go into 2010-2011.

That said, definitely fill out the Diamond Lane form and specifiy "elevator bldg or ground floor for MEDICAL/Mobility reasons". I'd back that up with a fax to the attention of the Vistana Room Controller about 3-5 days prior to arrival.
FAX : 407 239 3111

Also, not sure how limited mobility is....but the Cascades and Lakes are the only two pools with zero depth entry. So don't have to worry about ladders or stairs for getting in and out of the pool.

Hope this helps.........

Thank you, Maria!! I just booked the week and we are excited. :hippie:

I guess I read the refurb schedule wrong, but I will request a renovated unit when I put in the request for the accessible unit.

How far ahead should we place those requests? Is there any benefit to placing them this many months out? Or will they just be shelved until the check-in date is closer?

MiaSRN62
03-30-2009, 09:03 PM
I think it's ok to fill out the Diamond Lane form 2-3 months in advance, but don't fax until more like 3-5 days before arrival date. Just make sure you specify in both DL and Fax that the request is for "medical or mobility" reasons.

take care,
Maria

You may know this already, but wanted to let you know just in case, that the Get Away offer is completely NON-REFUNDABLE under all circumstances. Even with the insurance, it would have to be a life-threatening emergency to get your trip refunded. Something to consider when booking. We're staying there with a GetAway as well in April. Looking forward to it. Will post our comments after our stay!

Looking forward to the spring/summer resort reports. Everyone take lots of pictures, okKKKKKK =)

If you get a newly refurbished room, smoking is only allowed on the balcony. There is threat of a surcharge for smoking in the villa. So specify "newly remodeled room and non-smoking villa" on your request.

In all my research on this resort (lots) I've never read that anywhere. I've also never heard or read any complaints of smoke smells. I can't imagine that a Starwood resort would make all of their resorts smoking rooms. I would call them directly. They are very helpful. I didn't even think to request a non-smoking room. I'm assuming the majority of them are non-smoking.

Having been a Vistana owner for 15 years, yes, I can attest that ALL rooms have been, for years, "smoking optional".

In light of Vistana losing it's Gold Crown status (18 mos to 24 mos ago approx), and in an effort to regain that status, Starwood has authorized the major remodel of the resort and made these newly updated rooms non-smoking. This is new for Vistana. And a great move in a forward direction if you ask me. :)

Thanks for responding.

I called Sheraton and they told me to call the resort directly. I called the Vistana Villages and the rep told me about the 'smoking optional' policy and that I should not encounter a problem with smoky smells. She assured me that should we encounter a problem, we could be moved to a different unit.

I just don't want to go and have bad headaches the entire time... I don't understand why there can't be separate buildings for smoking/nonsmoking guests and owners.

I know they told you about the smoking optional policy, but I'm confused now. This is direct from the Vistana owner's website :
Beginning January 1, 2009, Sheraton is going smoke-free. All Sheraton Vacation Ownership resorts request that guests refrain from smoking in all enclosed public areas and smoking inside the villas at the resort. The balcony and lanai, if so equipped, of the villa is a designated smoking area.

Also, there are signs in the villa and I believe I recall you are explained it at check-in, if you smoke in the villa, and they have to incur sanitizing measures after you check out, you will incur a surcharge.

Maria,

I will be at the resort the first week of August with my wife and four children ages 9, 6, 5, and 5. I am unsure what area of the resort to request. I realize that the resort may not be able to accomodate my requests. Any suggestions from you would be appreciated.

Villa Location (Cascades, Lakes, Fountains I, Fountains II, Springs, and Falls):
Closer to the more kid-type pools would be best. Proximity helps with four young ones.
Steps vs Elevator? No mobility issues other than luggage and young children. The steps are not a major concern but wondering if you had any strong opinions.

Villa Type:
The two bedroom villas (NO lockoff) with two full size beds in the guestroom sound like a good fit for my family. Not sure how this translates to villa locations, pool proximity or other concerns.

Pool Type:
The zero depth entry pools with fountains at the Cascades and Lakes make sense for my young children. Are any of the other kid friendly pools whereas my young ones can stay in the very shallow end without an adult right at their side?

I know there are alot of general questions here, but any suggestions or opinions would be greatly appreaciated.

Thanks,

Mike

MiaSRN62

Hi Mike......
In light of your requests...particularily the zero depth.....the Cascades and the Lakes are the only ones with that feature. So I'd say the best for the little ones, though kiddie pools are at every pool as well.

We have traveled to Vistana since kids were very young (2 and up). The stairs were never a big issue. We actually prefer the highest floor for the quiet factor. And in the Fountains, the 3rd floor is has a vaulted ceiling with a skylight in the living room. But you can always request ground floor.

I do want you to know, that all the units you listed will be newly remodeled by Aug---except for Cascades, but that is the newest section and least in need of remodel anyway. The Falls has two TWIN sized beds in second bedroom vs 2 DOUBLE sized beds. Some of the two bedroom villas in the Lakes and especially the Cascades are lockouts. Owners here have the option to stay in one side and rent out the other. I feel they do try and rent out the dedicated two bedrooms before the lockouts so they can split the lockouts into two rentals.

Aside from the issue of the lockouts (which you would run a chance of getting), the Lakes and Cascades sound like the best for you : zero depth pools and elevators

Hope this helps........please feel free to ask any other questions you might have........

We checked in last night and have be SOOOO impressed. We are in the Fountains I section, building 5. We got a poolview (2 min walk to pool/food court/arcade, etc). It's also refurbished. It is absolutely gorgeous and huge. We have a 2 bedroom that sleeps eight. We have plans to move to Wilderness Lodge on Monday, but it's so amazing I could easily stay!!! The Fountains pool does NOT have a slide but is huge and has a waterfall for the kids to play under. The small kiddie pool is roped off, not sure why. There are two hot tubs. Post any questions here or PM me. I'll try to get pics up soon. Check in was easy breezy and everyone has been super helpful. Oh, in my building there is NO ELEVATOR and we are on third floor. Burning more calories is no problem, but definitely check if that is an issue. The food court has KFC, A&W, and Pizza Hut with Edy's ice cream. They will also deliver all of that to your room but it's a lengthy wait.

I'll check in again with pics soon!!!

Thanks for the update ansadler !

The only sections that have elevators are the Lakes and Cascades. The plus to getting the 3rd floor is you get the vaulted ceiling and skylight in the living room.

And I have never waited more than 30 min for food. Has this been happening consistantly when you order ?

Looking forward to hearing more.........oh......do they still make you stop at the guard station and show ID upon reentering the resort in the evening ?

Looking forward to hearing more.........oh......do they still make you stop at the guard station and show ID upon reentering the resort in the evening ?
Maria

Hey Maria. Only food experience was Fountains Food Court. 35 minute wait for food for family of 5. I asked a delivery guy that was passing by my building if that was typical. He said no, apologized, and then met me over and then found me back at the food court and gave me tickets for three free meals. Very nice!!

They aren't checking my resort card but are just checking my parking pass hanging on the rear view. Not sure what they do for people without a car. Will try to find out.

About to post room pics!

Does anyone know where I can find a map of the resort itself? I would really like to see the layout of all the buildings and pools etc. before I make any request. I can't find one anywhere.....:confused3:confused3:confused3

the resort is divided into two sides....here's the maps :

The FALLS and PALMS sections are along the left edge of this first map. Couldn't fit the whole thing on my scanner bed :

That was great u got the free meal tickets. I don't consider 30 min that bad for a resort the size of Vistana---I just think it's great they even offer room service. But when you're hungry, it probably feels extra long.

Continue to enjoy your trip.

We had a great time by the pool. Staff were very engaging, reading stories to the kids, selling s'more kits by a firepit and also had popcorn for sale.

Headed to Epcot tomorrow, so time for some sleep. Hope the pics are helpful. I'll hopefully have time to tour the rest of the property and take more pics before we leave.

Thanks so much for the maps - I had no idea the place was soo huge! Im not sure if this is a good thing for us or not. I know each section has its own pool, but which section is considered the "main section" - close to the food, arcade, shops?

but which section is considered the "main section" - close to the food, arcade, shops?

There really is no official "main section", but I'd probably have to say the side with the Cascades section. Both sides offer places to eat, pools and Rec Centers with activities and arcades.

The Cascade side has the one sit down restaurant on property. It's very small though. I'd guess no more than 15-20 tables if that. So don't go during peak dinner times which is pretty much 6-9 pm. The restaurant is called Zimmies. There is the Pizza Hut, KFC, A&W Express on the Fountains/Lakes side.

The General Store is on the Cascades side as well. The Lakes/Fountains side is quieter and less congested.

Hope this helps :)

You have been such a big help. Thank you soo much! Is there a pool bar by all the pools or just Cascades? Also are there servers or is it just walk up yourself? I am already dreaming of my poolside margarita!! hee hee

Walk up service pool bar by Fountains pool, as well as Cascades and the Super pool. Zimmies has an outside sports bar that is pool side at the Super pool.

Glad to help with any info...........

Just made our requests for our June trip!! I took your advice and made it kind of general and will hope for the best. I requested a newly renovated (non-smoking) villa and an elevator building close to zero entry pool. I also sited reasons like allergies and traveling with baby in stroller. Thanks for all your help Maria. I will also follow-up with a fax. 3-5 days before our arrival?

Can anyone suggest a grocery store? We will be leaving disney property and heading over to Vistana. We will want to stop at the grocery store on the way from one to the other. What store would be most convenient (on the way)?

Hey dtripli...
Sounds good so far. Yes, fax about 3 days before arrival. Also, you filled out the Diamond Lane online form as well ?
https://www.mystarcentral.com/services/diamond.jsp?propertyId=01&IM=SVO_RC_DIA_SVR

You can do that now.

As for a good store. We use the either the Super Walmart or Publix. If you are exiting the Vistana out of the main entrance (nearest the lobby/check in), you would turn RIGHT out of the resort. Follow on SR 535 (towards signs that say Kissimmee) several lights (not more than 7 min down the road for the Super Walmart which will be on your RIGHT. You'll see it....just turn into the parking lot.

The Publix is a little further down (maybe another 2-3 lights ?) and will be on your LEFT. It's just before/at 192.

I'm sure others will chime in with suggestions because I'm pretty sure there is a Super Target nearby too ? Just haven't been to that one. Goodings is the closest store to Vistana but it's fairly pricey.

We are booked here for October 2009 (four adults two childen). Can i ask a few questions.

1 - I appreciate this resort is huge, but can you 'walk' from the LAKES/FOUNTAINS side to the CASCADES side (on GOOGLE EARTH it looks like a main road separates the two sides. If you are in this side do you feel a bit 'separated from the Cascades section?

2 - looking at the resport map that has been posted on this thread Which is Fountain I and which Fountains II

3 - Will the refurbishment work on CASCADES cause any disruption in October 2009

4 - Where on the resort is the cycle hire shop

5 - How much does a taxi cost from Downtown Disney to this resort (looks pretty close)

6 - Is the onsite Grocery shop expensive?

7 - Are their plenty of parking spaces - or is it a battle to find a space when you return to to the resort at night?

Advance thanks

Yes, you can walk and yes, I would say you would feel a bit separated from the Cascades area. There is a separate guard station for each section and a wall/fence partially dividing them. But you can easily walk between the two. Depending on where your villa is located, anywhere from a 2-3 min walk to a 10 min walk if you are in one of the back rooms.

2 - looking at the resport map that has been posted on this thread Which is Fountain I and which Fountains II

Fountains II is generally the area that is the lighter color and to the right on the map. You can see the small roadway that separates the two on the map. Fountains II has the jacuzzi tub inside the master bedroom (as in the Lakes and Cascades). Fountains I has the whirlpool tub inside the master bathroom.

3 - Will the refurbishment work on CASCADES cause any disruption in October 2009

I would say, yes, you will probably witness/hear some noise from the refurb. I can't imagine the noise will be too much.....but this is a major remodel, so you'll probably see workers all around. They will probably tackle one or two buildings at a time.

4 - Where on the resort is the cycle hire shop

Do u mean where can you rent bikes ? I know they rent bikes near the Cascades Rec Center.

5 - How much does a taxi cost from Downtown Disney to this resort (looks pretty close)

I can't help u with this, but I would guess around $10 one way. Maybe someone else has used a taxi and can give u a better idea.

6 - Is the onsite Grocery shop expensive?

Yes, compared to offsite big chains like Publix, Walmart and Target. You pay for the convenience. But it's good for a few things you might want right away.

7 - Are their plenty of parking spaces - or is it a battle to find a space when you return to to the resort at night?

The later you return, the harder it will be to find a space CLOSE to your villa it will be. I think the furthest I've ever had to park when we return late is maybe 7-8 spaces away from our door. Generally, we're able to park right in front during the height of the day. Late at night is the toughest. But I've always been able to find a spot.

Hope this helps.

Thankyou so much for your thorough answers - really appreciated

We are there with our parents, us and our children 7 & 9, plus we are celbrating a 60th.

So because we will have a mixture of going mad in the parks and water parks some days and then relaxing at resort some days, I think either fountains I or Fountains II (or Lakes) sounds good to us, so thats what i will request using Dimond Check In, and then fax a polite reminder a few days before.

I just wanted to make sure we could easily walk over to the main activity centre and the other pools and rec areas (cascades & market place area mainly) easily - as it looks like its a busy road separating the two sides, and the ease in which to do this is hard to figure out from the google earth images.

Anyway - thanks so much

MiaSRN62

as it looks like its a busy road separating the two sides

No...not too busy of a street. Mostly utilized by resort guests only.

Oh...since you mentioned grandparents would be coming, just wanted to give u a head's up. Fountains I and II have no elevators. So request "ground floor" for those if your parents have mobility issues. They are only 3 stories high.

Lakes does have elevators and are 5 and 6 floors high.

Hope this helps.

Just one question...are the pools heated?

MiaSRN62
05-04-2009, 10:58 PM
I know when I've been there during the Fall they were----steam was coming off the water. During the summer...not sure. I think they may be a little. But the sun is so hot in FL in the summer that it really heats the water in the pools. The water never feels uncomfortable to me.

Thank you again for all of your help with everything!! I was curious what your favorite section of the resort is and why? Also, I forgot all about needing a crib for the baby. Do they have them and is it something I need to request ahead of time or just at check-in?

MiaSRN62
05-07-2009, 12:59 PM
I would request the baby crib ahead of time by calling. I know they have them, but I haven't had need of them in many years. Probably requesting it on the Diamond Lane form is the way to go.
from owner's website :
Cribs and Highchairs
Cribs and highchairs are available upon request. Please call Sheraton Vacation Ownership toll free at (888) SV-OWNER (786-9637) to make arrangements.

My favorite section. This is easy. It's the Lakes. I love the more quiet and relaxing atmosphere on the Lakes/Fountains side of the resort. I found it more congested and more cars on the Cascades side. And I choose Lakes over Fountains based soley on the fact that there are elevators in the bldgs. The Lakes pool is also nice because of the zero depth entry. I know most people prefer the newer Cascades, but I still like the Lakes. The Lakes room configuration is the same as the Fountains II. Meaning the jacuzzi tub is inside the master bedroom. Fountains I has the tub in the master bathroom. Also, one small section of the Fountains II has no water view. It backs up to a small grassy area and wooden fence (that is your balcony view). One staff member tried to put us there one year and I pleaded for a water view. They didn't even realize the room they were trying to put me in had no water view. But being a long-time owner, I was well aware. So thankfully they were able to move me. View is important to me. 1601 to 1612 and 1631 to 1672 are the Fountains II with no water view.

I am so sad that we JUST found this thread! THANK YOU MARIA and everyone else for the posts.
I DID call the resort about a month ago to ask about a crib, they said they had them and we can just request it at check in (hoping it doesn't take Forever as my 7 mo old will be wanting to go to bed for the night soon after arrival).

A questions for Maria, or anyone else...
WIFI...available I see the website. Cost?
Oh, and on Sunday, my parents and brother/family will be coming over to do lunch with us at Downtown Disney....I'd like to have them all come back for a little bday celebration for my 3 yr old. Can they go to the pool with us? how do they keep an eye on whether you "Belong" there or not?

Anything else I NEED to know before flying out tomorrow?
(I did just send a Diamond Lane registration to possibly save some time at check in)

Very excited!!

Hi Kelley,

Wifi is free in the rooms.....

And just let the guard at the gate know your family is coming for a visit. Shouldn't be a problem. We've had aunts and uncles who live in FL do the same when we're at Vistana.

Have fun !

Hi,

Has anyone stayed in the Falls or Springs section of the Sheraton Vistana Resort? I've been doing alot of research and from what I can tell, these sections will be renovated by the end of June 09 (we will be staying there Oct 09).

I have not stayed in either. I know Spiceycat (Pat) has stayed in the Springs. Maybe she'll see this and post.

I did want to say that the second bedroom in the Falls only has two twin beds----not double beds. So if this is an issue, keep that in mind. I'm not 100% sure if , with this new remodel, they haven't added two double beds ? But for the past 15 years that I've been an owner, it's been twins in this section.

Oh my gosh:scared1::scared1:Now I am worried. We booked through Travelocity and in our room description it said 2 twins - Now Im worried that our request will not be honored and that we will be stuck in either falls or courts (which I understand aren't even renovated yet?) I hope they will still accomodate our request to be in a renovated room. We also wanted an elevator building (because of the stroller) and did ask to be by a zero entry pool. From what I gather this is not falls or courts. What do you think? We got a good deal, but I certainly could've gotten one with another promo to.

Then...the ER! BTW...any suggestions on the condo...us getting a 6/6 instead of an 8/6??? glad I really didn't NEED my brother/SIL to stay with us. they got in late and stayed at a motel nearby.

Hi,

Sorry to learn that your vacation has started like it has. Hope your husband is doing better.

I have a question regarding your reservation... Did you make a request regarding which type of room you wanted or which villa you wanted thru diamond lane on the Sheraton Vistana Website and follow up with a fax with them as well? Just worried...we did an exchange for this property thru RCI for a trip in October. We really want one of the newer units so again, just wondering if you made any requests before leaving for your trip.

Thanks for any info you can share.

I read on the RCI paperwork --No Requests will honored...
I also did NOT know about this site until just a few days before we left. I sent in an internet request 36hrs before. Not sure they got it...or if it would have helped...
Good luck with your Oct res.

We are close to the Cascades Pool and Market. the pool is like a 3 min walk with the kids.

but is it right that they can change the room like that...

It's tough to know. The Courts are closer than the Falls to the Cascades pool, but the Springs and some of the Palms are even closer. And yes, Falls rennovation should be complete or almost. Courts won't be done until Dec 2010. As far as the stroller.....if they can't give you an elevator building, they should give you a ground floor. But that means you could get an older section. If your reservation states two twins, all you can do is ask on the Diamond Lane and at check-in if there is any availability. Zero entry pool is also over at the Lakes on the other side of the resort----but there are no twin beds over there. Sending u a PM.

but is it right that they can change the room like that...

Most of the reservations state "sleeps 8/8. Yours stated 8/6. That is the resort's buffer (and just about all timeshares do this). The 8 is total capacity, but the "6" is really ideal/comfort. I agree it is ridiculous to rate the Courts and Falls as a capacity of "8". So they didn't really change you. Unfortunately, this is how they rate Courts/Falls. If you don't have an 8/8 on your reservation, there's a very good chance you will get Falls/Courts with the two twin beds in second bedroom.

So very sorry to hear how your stay has been thus far Kelley. Did your husband fall on Vistana property ? I'd ask to speak to a manager (and head of security---he's very nice) and maybe suggest that since your dh's vacation has been ruined to a certain degree in that he can't swim and do other more sports-like activities, that a room upgrade might be a way for the resort to ammend for the accident ? It sounds like the water cover was not secured so great ? Did Vistana admit anything ? Did they offer to pay the bill ? Maybe there are details I'm not aware of.

To my knowledge....requests were always at the discretion of Vistana. I would not think the resort is booked solid this week ? Next week is Memorial week, so that one probably is. But I was just in WDW as of Sunday when we left. The parks and resorts had availability. So maybe they can accomodate a villa move. Did u ask at check-in or just accept what they gave you ? JUst curious how it all transpired.

Can anyone tell me the format of the Sheraton Vistana Resrvation Numbers, as I have a feeling that our travel agent has given me 'there' reference number (which covers the entrire trip ) and not the res number specifically relating to the accomodation at Vistana

The number I have is a 8 digit one begining 01 (eg 01********)

Is this the correct format does anyone know, as we I wish to use the Diamond Check in, and don't want to put the wrong number on the form.

Cheers

I have not stayed in either. I know Spiceycat (Pat) has stayed in the Springs. Maybe she'll see this and post.

I did want to say that the second bedroom in the Falls only has two twin beds----not double beds. So if this is an issue, keep that in mind. I'm not 100% sure if , with this new remodel, they haven't added two double beds ? But for the past 15 years that I've been an owner, it's been twins in this section.

Hi Maria,

Thanks for all the info you post but I'm in need of some more advice:

We did an RCI exchange for a Sunday check in (10/4/09)
2 Bedroom, 8/6, Unit Size 2, Full Kitchen. What section do you think this puts us in? What do you suggest I do to try and get a newer unit and how far in advance should I start the process? Is this week a busy time of year or a downtime? Looking at the rehab schedule and the check in days, it looks like we will be placed in a newer unit even without a request or do you think they'll stick us in an older section (Spa or Courts) even though those are Fri & Sat only check ins due to the fact this is an RCI exchange?

Second question, we are actually flying into Orlando on Sat Oct 3rd. Should we try and rent a unit at the Vistana that night and what are the chances that we would be able to stay in that same unit with our exchange? Or should we stay off site Sat and arrive early Sunday to do the paperwork (I've read that you have a better chance of getting the room you've requested), take off for the day, then return latter that day to pick up the keys.

THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH in advance your advice:)

Hi Kristin !
I would still request a newly rehabb'd unit via the Diamond Lane. You should probably put that request in about 2-3 months before check-in. What concerns me, is the "8/6". The newer units and even some of the older units usually are "8/8". The 8/6 tends to be Courts and Falls. With a Sun check-in, you could be placed in the Courts. I believe the only thing that could draw in some crowds is Columbus Day weekend & Food and Wine Festival, but generally, it's not a busy time for Vistana---though it is considered "prime" for exchanging. But really, most of the year is considered "prime" for Vistana.

And I would make any big efforts to rent Oct 3 at Vistana. From personal experience, you run a very big chance of having to move anyway. They did it to me and I'm an owner. So now I don't rent from them any more. My extra nights are elsewhere. And yes.....getting to Vistana early on Sunday to check in and let them know of your requests would be the way to go.

If I can help any further, please let me know......

Hi Maria,

Thanks for the quick response. I will do DL within the next couple of months and follow up with a fax a week before check in. I think I'll request the Fountains as 1st choice and 2nd the Falls (it's just 4 of us) since the it looks like the rehab will be done and fits the 8/6 criteria. :confused3 Can I request this way?

Do you have any suggestions on where to stay on the 3rd that's close to the Vistana?

Yes....Falls is 8/6 and Fountains is 8/8....but anything is worth a chance.

I don't even stay anywhere but Vistana and onsite in WDW. I know Bryan's Spanish Cove, Caribe Royale, Nick Hotel, Sheraton Safari, Cypress Pointe....I don't know what rate you're interested in since it's only one night. Also, all the Downtown Disney hotels are maybe 3-4 traffic lights away. Maybe someone who has more first-hand experience could chime in ?

OK...so Courts E37 ---not what we expected. Maria--where would person 7 and 8 sleep? would they bring in a roll-a-way? where would they put it, the kitchen?

YES...the resort was at fault for my husband's accident. however, when we left there was STILL an orange cone at the site and it had not yet been fixed. the cover was faulty and the pipe that my husband cut his hand on was very sharp (why?). The security guard was very nice about everything. She came out after we called (took about 20 min) the office the first time. after about 15 min of the blood not stopping with pressure, we called back to the front desk and asked for directions to the hospital. soon after we hung up, the security team arrived, dealt with us, then took pics and roped off the area as we were driving away.
She did get all of our contact info and said that Risk Management will review the situation. she mentioned that they 'usually' cover the expenses incured. we'll wait to hear from them.

I guess we should have pressured them more at that point and asked to change condos as compensation. but instead we stuck it out--until the rain and hail came on tuesday afternoon.

So...our down day--spending the day at the pools. The rain/thunder and lightning and HAIL came about 330. 30 min in. my almost 3 yr old yells from his bed. it was wet. the roof was leaking. So, we were throwing things into our bags as we called the front desk to demand a move. maintainance came out "yep, that's bad" is all he could say. they wanted to ONLY move us to another courts...but after a bit of arguing, they sent the shuttle over with 2 keys and told us to decide. courts #1 or Cascades #2512. We took the cascades!!!

The rest of the trip was uneventful. thank goodness!!

Thanks so much for following up. Again, hope everything turns out well for you and your family. Enjoy your vacation and look forward to hearing from you when you return.

I just returned today from the Sheraton Vistana Resort. I exchanged through RCI and made my special request using the diamond lane a few weeks before check in and I also faxed a request about a week before checkin. I requested a newly renovated room ground level close to a pool. They came through all the way. I received one of the nicest rooms I have ever stayed in. These people done a great job honoring my request. I stayed in the fountains section building 31 room 1507. We could walk right out of our back door to a huge pool. I would not hesitate to stay here again as a matter of fact I would seek out this resort if I get to return to orlando. They were very nice and the property was wonderful. Anyone that has any questions about this section I will try and answer any questions. I just wanted to post and let everyone know because some of us was not sure how they honored RCI exchange request. They did in my case. I think they will try in all cases that they can. Also i arrived early around 2:00pm and they let me check right on in no problem.

Hi - So glad to hear that your room requests were honored. We are headed to Vistana in 2 weeks and sent in our diamond lane request and plan on faxing next Monday. I am keeping my fingers crossed!! Sounds nice having the pool right outside your door! And you were happy at Fountains? Were you close to market/arcade or anything else?

Yes we were very pleased with the Fountains area. They had an arcade, fitness room, bar and grill, vollyball right beside pool, shuffleboard, basketball and the rec center all right there close, really close. The fountains food court is also real close, serving Pizza hut, Kentucy Fried Chicken and A&W. They are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays though. The Market place was not real far but a little walk for sure. If you get the Fountains I think you will be very satisfied with your stay. Disney is also not far at all. We just took a right turn out of the resort on 535, went down to take a right turn on 536 and it took us striaght to Disney. If you go back up to I4 it takes longer more congestion in the traffic.

I'm so happy to hear that everything turned out so wonderful! Was it Fountains I or Fountains II? Also I have a question on transportation, did you happen to rent a car and if so, did you pick up at the airport or off site? Rates seem really high, so trying figure out the best course of action.

I love Vistana. We are headed there this week. We prefer to stay in the Palms section. It's one of the older sections - but I love the sernity - and they have wonderful screened in porches overlooking the fountains. I love it. The Palms just went through renovation too - so they are all new.

My least favorite section is the Courts - it's Very close to the super pool - but I don't care! I hate the layout of those units. It's two stories with a vaulted ceiling - and all the noise goes up to where the kids are. And I think in general I don't like the two story thing.

We stayed at SRV in May (see my reports a couple pages back).

We originally were in the Courts. Had NOT been renovated and actually had to moe due to a leak in the roof on the 3rd day.

Rental car --I used priceline for the first time. I think I paid $12 per day for a mid sized car (plus taxes). ours was through...enterprise I think...it was in the airport. MOST are from what it looked like.

Enjoy your trip.

Hi Everyone - Special Shout Out To Maria!! We've been home almost a week now, and Im finally getting around to this. We left for Disney on June 9th and spent an week at CBR. Two connecting rooms with the 4/3 deal worked out pretty well for our family of 6. Then week two we headed to Sheraton Vistana Resort. My big kids 15, 12 and 10 were in heaven with the accomodations!!! We got ALL of our requests. We were in a newly renovated unit in the Lakes section. We were right across the street from the zero entry pool. We enjoyed this pool over the Foutains (which was also very easy to get to) because it was much quieter, and the zero entry was perfect with the baby.

The best part of the Vistana for us was the extra space. We had the 2 bedroom villa. My girls had their own room. My husband, baby and I had our room, and my 15 year old son had the queen sleeper in the living area. It was great having a kitchen and two full bathrooms as well. Everyone could spread out and relax.

We spent week 2 relaxing. We did Universal 2 days and Coco Beach 1. The rest of the time we let the kids sleep in, swim and use the basketball and tennis courts on the property (mostly at night since it was VERY HOT)

Well I just wanted to thank Maria for all of her good "on the money" advice. I would recommend the Vistana for large families who want off property accomodations. Enjoy Summer Everyone!

Our favorite area at the Vistana has always been the Springs, because of the mature landscaping, the nice little pool, and the master bath big enough to skate in. (not to mention the Miami vice colors, and the "vacuum cleaner" hair dryers!)

We'll be going in August for 2 weeks. My confirmations are for Lakes and Fountains, which would be fine. But can anyone tell me if the Springs refurb finished on schedule?

Are Springs units now hard to get? (They used to be really easy, because nobody wanted them).

Here is my review. Sorry it's long...

We stayed here for 8 nights starting July 5th. Check-in was smooth, although they did not grant my section request. I didn’t expect them to as I was an RCI exchange which gets low priority over owners. The RCI exchange was a week and we bought an extra night, and they did arrange it so we would not have to change rooms for the extra night which was nice.

We were in Cascades (Bldg 12 #2747), one of the sections that has not yet been renovated. Our building had an elevator. We got a 2-bedroom villa. I was told the rooms were now non-smoking, but in the past smoking was allowed, and while it wasn’t overwhelming the villa did have a smell to it. Kind of like old smoke and something they used to try to cover it up. There was a sign in the villa to only smoke on the balcony or there would be a $200 fee.

I had read in previous reviews about problems with dirty carpets, and unfortunately this is spot on. Ours was visibly dirty, and after 2 hours of the kids running around barefoot the bottoms of their feet were black. I called guest relations and the carpet was cleaned the following day. They did a good job, no more dirty feet. I just wish they could have done it before we got there. The balcony was also quite dirty. People obviously put their cigarettes out on the floor and wall and housekeeping did not clean it. It was screened in which I liked. 4 chairs out there & a little table, plus a ceiling fan.

Other than that, the villa was pretty nice. Washer/dryer, full-sized refrigerator, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher – even a garbage disposal which was nice. There was a dining table w/ 6 chairs, and 2 stools at a kitchen counter. The living room had a sofa bed, 2 chairs and a coffee table. There were TVs in the living room & the 2 bedrooms, plus a DVD player in the LR. DVD player kept skipping but when we complained they replaced it within an hour. Free channels included 3 HBOs and Showtime. No movies on demand but there were DVDs available for rent in the Activities Center and there was a very good selection of recent titles.

On to the bedrooms. King size bed in master, plus two full size beds in the 2nd BR. Beds were very hard. The master had a nice big Jacuzzi tub, plus a bathroom with a shower. The 2nd bedroom’s bathroom had a shower/tub. The bathrooms each had an area outside the door with an extra sink, counter and mirror space. In the master there was also a stool in this area to sit & do your makeup, etc. Both bedrooms had big double closets with mirror doors. Master closet had a safe for valuables. We were able to fit a playpen into the 2nd bedroom.

As for outside the villa, this resort has some nice features. There are several pools including the Cascades pool which we used. Pool had a large shallow section for the little ones with sprinklers in the middle for the kids to run through. Pool also has a waterfall and a deeper section. There was a surrey bike rental near that pool, which we did not do, but it looked fun. In addition to DVDs, the Activities Center had some toys for kids to play with, and board games and toys to rent for your room. The marketplace has a deli counter and a decent selection of groceries, as well as free internet access, though there are only 2 computers there so you might have to wait a bit. The food court delivers, but is closed at strange times such as 2PM on a Sunday. The restaurant by the Cascades pool was also closed on Saturday night at 7PM which was weird and inconvenient. We got massages by the pool one day which was very nice. You could hear the waterfall and they have a fan blowing on you so it is nice and cool. I highly recommend that. It seemed like there were a lot of fun scheduled activities, although we did not participate as we were doing the Disney parks and then crashing when we got back. I heard karaoke one night at the pool by the Activities Center.

All in all this resort was passable and suited our needs, but I would not stay there again due to the cleanliness issues.

I hope some of you Vistana experts can help me out! I have a 2 bedroom booked through RCI in Sept. I will be traveling alone with my two little girls (3 and 5). I am obviously a little concerned about safety but I am also concerned about getting an older unit that might smell like smoke. I am HIGHLY allergic to smoke.
Since I am renting through RCI I realize that I will be low priority for any request but what area should I request to ensure quiet for the children at nighttime, easy access to a building/unit for me (who will likely be carrying the kids in at night), close to a kids - zero entry pool, and a newly remodeled unit? Also, what are the chances that I will get a newly remodeled unit even though I am going through RCI? I am so nervous about this!!!! Please provide any helpful suggestions!

thanks in advance guys!

The Cascades are the last to get remodeled, as they were the last to be built. The renovations there start in August I was told. So, stay anywhere but there if you want a renovated room. The rooms there are not too bad, however I agree with the previous post on the cleanliness issue. The renovation will help this, but if housekeeping does not improve, it will be just as run down and dirty after a year or so.

Can someone please describe the makeup of the units that sleep 8 adults (which is what we reserved)? I'm guessing one King in master suite, two full or queen in the second bedroom, and a pull-out sofa?

Would there be room for an air bed? I am organizing a family trip and my sister, without thinking, abruptly invited a teenager in our family to go. I'm not amused, but how do you uninvite a teenager? I just wish her parents had said no ... but that is a discussion for a different topic!!!

Also, is there free wireless internet throughout the resort?

King in the master; 2 doubles in the 2nd bedroom, and a pull out sofa with a mediocre bed (at least it was in Springs and Fountains before refurb).

In both those units there would be room for a twin size airbed in the second bedroom, or room could be found in the living area.

Sorry about the extra guest. Hope it works out bettern than hoped for. When are you going?

My guess would be you could have the Falls section. I say this because a sleep 6/4 has two twin beds in the second bedroom vs two full beds. If you are checking in on a Sunday then I would feel even more strongly this is where you'll be placed. The Falls are two story buildings.

Does that make a difference?

Does the check-in day really matter? I'm checking in on a Friday for a two bedroom in mid-Sept. and I really, really want one of the renovated condos.

The day of check in can matter. So Suzy....if you're checking in on Sat, you could be placed in the Courts with a sleep 6.

By checking in on a Friday, you still can get a rennovated unit. It's just that Suzy's reservation specified a sleep 6. Only the Courts and Falls are sleep 6 when referring to a two bedroom villa.

I am just nervous now... because I really wanted to stay in a nice place... and I had the Bonnet Creek... I backed out ... because of listening to my husband... over a dunkin donuts across the way.. rather than a place with a lazy river... did I make the wrong decision? :confused3

I really dont want a place where my feet are gonna turn black... and where I feel that things around me are dirty...It is my 20th wedding anniversary and I wanted to stay somewhere nice...please reassure me...

Hi SuzyQ --
We'll be there the 8th - the 22nd, and I bet I'll have to go check in again on the 15th (also my 51st bday!). So maybe we'll see each other in line! I rented weeks from people on the TUG, so I know that it's Fountains 1 week and Lakes the other. If the Springs section overlooking the pond is not under renovation, we'll be requesting that, renovated or not, because we like that section.

For you--we've been in a lot of units at Vistana, and I've NEVER seen the black feet thing. One time our carpet was rather spotted; we asked them to come in and shampoo it and they did. Last time we stayed at AKL the carpet was spotted too.

Have you sent in your diamond lane request? If not, send it in, requesting a renovated unit, and requesting that if they are going to put you in a 6/4 that it is in Falls, and that you are requesting NOT to be in Courts. Courts interiors are fine, it's the exterior that is less lush. (they're renovated).

I've never stayed at Bonnet Creek, but we'll be staying at Vistana because we like the lower buildings and much more landscaping at Vistana. I'd never be happy in the high-rise apartment style at Bonnet Creek. There are a ton of pools at Vistana; no Lazy River, but you should look forward to your stay! I'll PM you after I get there and let you know how the place is looking!

We are going to Vistana on Oct.3rd. which is a Saturday check in. On my reservation, it reads 2 bedroom,Full Kitchen. Sleeps 8 maximum, 6 Private. Can someone tell me what building they think I may end up in based on those facts? Also, what is a lockout room mean? Just curious n that...thanks!

Ok - so I'm still a bit worried about what section we will be in this September. My reservation is through RCI and states 8/6 private which I think puts us in Cascades?? But if that is so then we will be in the non-renovated villas which I DON'T want. I also read that they are being renovated starting in August so that doubly concerns me if there is construction in the villas we would be staying in for vacation. Does anyone know where we are likely to be placed?

Several years ago. DH and I stayed at the Vistana with several others relatives. We stayed in one in the older sections (honetsly can't remember which one) while our relatives stayed in a newer one. The newer one had a valted ceiling which was nice... but honestly DH and I thought our older room was much nicer! We're going agin in December and are excited to stay at the Vistana again. We booked through RCI and have a sleep 8/ 6 private and truely hope to get one of the same older rooms. But really we don't care. From what I've seen the entire resort is nice and all the rooms I've been in have been great. :yay:

We just got back from a week in a 2 bedroom Fountains rooom, 2nd floor. Gorgeous doesn't do it justice.

Granite kitchen, lovely furnishings. Clean Clean Clean.

Everything the pre posters have raved about and more.

My personal favorite thing.....you can still see Stacy in WDW's top things to do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!

I was in my glory and finally felt that being off grounds was not as remote as I always thought it was.

Never got past our own pool, which was wonderful with a waterfall and a massuse for hire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We loved it.

We were booked thru II in a Cascades room, but I called the hotel and asked for a renovated room, and we got it.

Best of luck to everyone!

No, this hotel is located on 535 near Bennigan's. If you go down Hotel Blvd away from DTD and get to Crossroads (where Publix is) take a right and it's up there on the right. Extremely convenient and I've stayed several times and have never been disappointed. Wonderful resort.

What is the best way to request units that are close to each other? Should they include our reservation number on their request? We have no idea what our unit will be. Can we call to find out which section our condo will be in? The trip is still 2 months off.

We are considering our 1st off site stay next summer (June 10). Last summer we stayed in 2 all Star Music rooms and didn't go to one late night or early entry. That was always the perk we had used in the past and the one that kept us coming back onsite. We also spent a lot more time in the pool as it was sooooo hot the week we were there. (record temps) I am thinking I would enjoy having the extra space and a kitchen for some simple meals. I think if there are June discounts they will be out in the next couple months and I want to be ready to make a wise decision.

Yes, I'm quoting myself! :upsidedow

I called the Diamond Lane request phone number and the agent there was very helpful. She linked our two reservations somehow and made a note of our needs (ground floor or elevator access since someone in our party has a mobility issue). I'm glad I called -- we have a 2BR booked and our other party has a 1BR and the agent said we probably would have been put in different sections. Hopefully we'll be in the same section and not too far apart. I just didn't want to be on the opposite side of the resort.

Hi everyone-

I have traded one of my Hyatt timeshares thru II to Sheraton Vistana Villages. They gave us unit: 09108 on our confirmation paperwork. Does this mean we are in building 9, 1st floor, unit 08?

If so, Can you tell me whereabouts in the resort that is...please!!!! It is a one bedroom and we are checking in on a Sunday. We would like to know which area we are in, what kind of view we have and if there is a screened in patio/balcony:)

I see there is a request we can make, but if this unit is somewhere where we we would be happy, we wouldn't have to do that!!!!

We exchanged thru RCI and were told we will get the room that was traded in which I called about and was told it is in Fountains room 1567. Would this mean that it is ground floor? Close to pool? Is fountains fully renovated?

I already did the Diamond lane register and requested a crib. Is there are a charge for the crib?

We added a day onto the beginning of our RCI week and they told us we would be able to stay on instead of moving us, hope so.

I hate to be a bummer. But, we stayed here 2 years ago and it was the worst vacation we've have ever had. We actually own a Sheraton timeshare (Myrtle Beach) and exchanged for the week. I agreed to go to their talk to learn of the "new" things that were going on in the world of Sheraton Timeshares. They told me that it would last no longer than one hour and we'd get a free breakfast and 3,000 points for our AmEx credit card. After 2 hours of meeting with a pushy (doesn't even touch it) salesman tell us how ignorant we were for not buying more points. We asked to see a Manager to complain. He told us the same thing. We were crazy not to buy as prices were about to increase. I was dumbfounded. Then had to stand in line for another 45 minutes to fill out a form for my points. I wasn't about to get nothing for this experience. I called Sheraton to complain and nothing. I've tried to sell my timeshare since and no takers (wonder why). Since, we've purchased DVC and haven't looked back. Just wanted to make people aware. Don't agree to the "schpeel"!

I found both were convenient in their own way. The shuttles are convenient as in they are speedy on getting guests there but you have to pay and they come at a designated time if I remember correctly. Renting a car is also convenient because you can get groceries, come and go to the parks as you please instead of waiting for the shuttle, and go sight seeing etc. You just need to refill for gas in case you get low.

If you have never stayed offsite before, I would highly suggest a rental car. Vistana shuttles are nothing like disney transportation so you would probably be disappointed. There is only one central place they pick guests up and that is at the very front of the resort. Your room could be a 15 min walk away. Think about hot sun....pouring rain......tired kids. Disney busses drop off closer to guests rooms---they usually have multiple bus stops and run fairly consistantly (every 10-20 min on average). Vistana shuttles have set times---you would need to pick up a schedule and then your days are planned around those shuttle times. When I'm at Vistana---it's a rental car or I won't stay there at all.

Good luck...........

First of all, thanks for answering my questions about the shuttles and the convenience of getting a rental car. A few more questions if you dont mind-

Is this resort conveniently located close to the Disney parks? We dont ever stay in a park all day, we tour in the morning and get out by lunch time and go back after dinner. Any parking lot tips?

IS the resort safe enough for my 12yr old and her girlfriend to walk around alone (during the day, of course).

Lastly, am I going to have to sit through a presentation for a timeshare for just staying here?

Thank you again for all your help:love:

Penny,
Yes, the main Vistana resort is definitely pretty close to the disney theme parks. You're not more than 10-15 or 20 min away ---depends on which park. I believe Downtown Disney, Hollywood Studios and Epcot are the closest (about 10 min). MK and AK are maybe 15-20 min. Having a car makes it so much easier to zip in and out and back to the resort for a nap or swim. having to depend on Vistana shuttles is just not as convenient.

Yes...this resort is definitely safe...clean...family friendly. The gates all have guards who check cars coming in.

you do not HAVE to sit through a presentation unless you nightly or weekly rate was dependent on it. However, that said, they will TRY and get you to attend. My advice is, after you check in and get your keys, they will suggest you go to another desk to get your free gifts and coupons. Do not. They will try and set you up for a breakfast informational meeting which can be a hard timeshare sell attempt. If you skip the freebie/coupon person, they will call you room DAILY in an attempt to get you to sign up for the "free breakfast" meeting or whatever they're calling it these days. I strongly suggest you unplug ALL phones in your villa as soon as you arrive. Most people use cell phones nowadays anyway. They used to call us at 7-8 am in the morning trying to catch us and woke us all up. All phones get unplugged now.......probably one of the best tips I can give you ;)

The resort itself is very large....nicely landscaped....you will enjoy your time there I hope.

When we stayed there none of this happened. We picked up our coupons and stuff and that was the end of it. We did get a lot of phone calls but they all happened after we left for the day and every single one of them was about a certain pool being closed or a certain activity taking place that day. No calls to go to any breakfast, though.

Well...very glad you were spared. I've been a Vistana owner since 1994 so I've experienced decades of this harassment. Finally discovered how to get around it. One year (maybe 2007 or 2008 ?), we skipped the coupon desk....unplugged the phones and I guess they were desperate. Actually came back to the villa at the end of the day to a NOTE TAPED on our front door asking us to call their number to set up a meeting. Over the years here on DIS, I've read dozens of people cite the same experiences. Maybe they're backing off a little lately , who knows ?

We placed the above request before we checked in, and we were assigned units right next to each other! A 1BR and a 2BR ground floor. Hi garrsmom.....
Yes...you can leave the park and return the same day without paying again. Just hold on to the dashboard card you get.

My computer crashed about 8 months ago and I lost alot of info ---one was the shuttle info. But from what I can recall, it was approximately $10 PER PERSON PER DAY ROUNDTRIP ? And you are given a shuttle schedule. It's not like the disney busses that run every 10-20 min. It's more like 3-4 departures in the morning and 3-4 returns in the evening. So you have to be prepared to plan your day around the shuttle times.

Hope this helps,
Maria

we just got back from a week in the Falls Section and LOVVVVED it. I don't think i'd like any other section as much - the units were spacious and renovated, we were steps to the Falls pool from our unit in building 21 - and from there it was easy access to the Courts pool, the rec center, the Spas super Pool and Zimmies, the market and a bit further to the Cascades Pool. We ate at the Fountains food court our first day there but never went back over to that side- it seemed very busy and noisy at that pool and we preffered the more laid back nature of "our' pool...the unit was spotless and we loved the big screened porch for morning coffee and evening wine... we ate at the deck at Zimmies' one night and had breakfast at the marketplace one morning -- my dd had her hair wrapped and we enjoyed many drinks pool side at the Spas pool - (darn the Oasis pool bar wasn't open yet at 'our' pool thatwas our one dissapointment) wE only had one message asking us to go to the time share presentation but as my partner is an RCI owner already she shut them down pretty quick.
all in all we really really loved it and loved how FAST it was to get to the parks -- one night we were 15 minutes from Getting off spaceship earth to getting into the pool -- can't beat that!

:goodvibesWe just got back too! We stayed at the Cascades in a renovated unit from May 1- May 8. It was gorgeous!!!!! We were on the 5th floor overlooking the pond I loved watching the baby ducks from the balcony when I drank my coffee. We received many calls from the photographer but only 1 text for owners update they were offering 65$ to come and some points but I can't remember how many. I politely responded No thanks and didn't hear back.
We spent allot of time at the super pool. It is my favorite pool! It seems like there is so much room there and it doesn't seem as crowded as the Cascades pool. I guess the cascades section is about 70% renovated. The only sections now that are not renovated are the courts, the spas and the Palms.
I would imagine the resort will go back to Gold status after they are all finished with the renovations.

Hi all,

I have a quick question for those that have stayed there recently. What is the smoking policy at the resort. DW is sensative to smoke and I seem to have gotten mixed messages. I called the front desk and the person said smoking was allowed but we wouldn't notice it. From thier site it said it wasn't allowed in the enclosed spaces but was on the balconies and if they detected smoking then you would be charged a cleaning fee.

Our preference is to always be in a non smoking room. Is this something we should be concerned about?

Thanks in advance.

As we will be there for at least one full day, no parks planned, I know the kids are going to want to take advantage of everything, and it would be nice to know what it's going to cost. ::yes::

We exchanged through RCI, have a Friday check in our reservation states 8/6. I did the Diamond Lane Check-In online and received a reply that the building I requested (Falls) is a Sunday check in and I will be placed in a building that checks in on Friday. Does anyone know which buildings check in on Friday? I've searched this thread, but could not find it if it has already been answered.

Well the only thing we paid for was to have my dd's hair wrapped which was about $20-$22 -- I know that there is mini golf, massages, kids store, surry bikes tennis lessons etc..but not sure of the fees. also when we were there they had this HUGE inflatable slide up they were running water down adn it was $2 a ride and lots of kids seemed to be doign that.

Below is the info about check in that I found in another thread:

Sections at Vistana OLDEST to NEWEST : Courts, Falls, Spas, Palms, Springs, Fountains I, Fountains II, Lakes, Cascades

Only "sleep 6" two bedrooms are in Courts and Falls. All other two bedrooms in other sections are "sleep 8". One bedrooms are only in the Lakes and Cascades---which are newest sections.

Friday check-in : Spas, Palms, Springs, Fountains I & II, Lakes, Cascades

Sat check-in : Courts, Palms, Springs, Fountains I & II, Lakes, Cascades

Sun check-in : Falls, Palms, Springs, Fountains I & II, Lakes, Cascades

I may be wrong but i belive Palms and Cascades are th eonly sections that haven't been renovated. you can request a newly refurbished unit - that's what we did...

Booking thru my friend's timeshare, and we are coming up with a
sleeps 4, max 6. That should be Falls or Courts?

It is a Sat check in, so that means the Falls is out and we will probably get the Courts, which I don't want.

Also, according to the renovation schedule they are suppose to start renovations in that area in Aug, won't that be disruptive to stay there? We will be there in Sept.

One other thing, it states that there is a king in the master, a full in the second and a pull out sofa. I thought the second bedrooms had doubles or twins, or is that only for the renovated units?

I have seen the unrenovated rooms and they are still very nice. The ones I saw had what I would call Bright Florida colors... teals, blues, Yellows. Here are a few photos from our website.

I am sure if renovations are underway while you are there, you will see very little disruption.

We stayed in Courts building 5 last week and it definitely had NOT been renovated. Old and disappointing. Nothing like the pictures on the dreamsunlimited site. Definitely a sleeps 4 2 bedroom---we were a party of 5, RCI, requested a renovated with 2 doubles in the guest and well, no, even though it was confirmed by phone ahead of time. They were working on Courts building 4 and yes you could tell...it looked like a construction site that we had to drive/walk around each day.

Good location, could walk to the Springs, Courts and Falls pool as well as the Marketplace, really close to Disney. Have since spoken with RCI after arriving home and worked a few things out so may give them another try in the (distant after all renovations done) future...but beware, the nonrenovated units are just not particularly pleasant and the front office staff not particularly helpful once you are there(but the maintence and housekeeping staff was wonderfully nice). The rest of the resort looked beautiful---we just felt like we got stuck in the forgotten corner.

I was under the impression that all 2 bedrooms sleep at least 6. The sofas convert into beds. In fact we had a Courts 2 bedroom several years ago that slept 8, despite having twin beds in the second bedroom. It had 2 sofas, and both could be converted to beds.

From the various threads I've been reading, it seems those booking through RCI are most likely to get the old sections that haven't been renovated yet.

We go in Sept, through Interval International, and I am hoping we don't get stuck in a construction zone.

I think this is true...most especially if you are a Saturday check in and want a two bedroom. Then it is Courts for sure. And, from what I can tell...they still have a lot of renovating to do there, and a lot of it not scheduled to begin until 8/2010 from what people are being told.

Maria,

We stayed at vistana twice before and you helped me out so much with your tips. thanks. :) We were so lucky to be able to trade so late into vistana again. I happened to call at the right time when a unit became available. Now I have more questions-does the general store near cascades still have complimentary coffee in the AM? I used to like to get it there so I wouldn't wake up my family making early am coffee. We have only stayed in cascades? Do you know if lakes/fountains I and II/cascade are all the same size and layout for a 2 bedroom?

Hi everyone! I just booked the great deal over at All Ears: http://allears.net/acc/faq_villages.htm for $199 ($226 with tax) for 3 nights for a 1 BR. I was chatting with the agent and I asked about the kitchenette and asked if there was a stove or just a cook top. He said there was just a cook top but then he saw a 1BR with a full kitchen available for the whole time. I can't find any info about 1BR with full kitchens. Does that mean that this unit is in a specific building? Did I shoot myself in the foot by booking the full kitchen and not the kitchenette?

I have free dining booked now at POR but I am running the numbers to compare the two. I really like free dining but I also really like a 1 BR unit with a king bed, kitchen, washer & dryer and hot tub. We have APs and we're already renting a car so parking at WDW isn't a factor.

We stayed there as part of our exchange through II for two weeks. We LOVED it and I dont think that we would exchange anywhere else. The Vistana resort location was great. We were close to everything. Also there was plenty to do on site and my girls 7 and 4 were just as happy being at the resort than at the parks. We stayed in Fountains II and were right next to the main pool for that area. I have FEW negitives about the resort...there was a little noise from the other rooms at times, and the bars close really early. We enjoyed Matt from the FUN TEAM and the girls loved playing all the games and activities they did around the pools. My mother and I even did Bingo one night! Our room was one of the newly updated ones and the quaility was great and we were really really impressed! Good luck and enjoy your stay!:cool1:

No on the laundry detergent, yes on bar soap, can't remember on shampoo and other toiletries. We bought a box of dishwasher detergent. Someone had suggested packing a handful of the single detergent "pods" or whatever you call them but it was on my sister's list and she forgot! (blame the sister!). There may have been one single-use detergent packet in the kitchen.

Unless you pay extra for daily maid service, you get one mid-week refresher from housekeeping.

We're at the Vistana now, in Palms. Our room isn't renovated yet, but it's really in great condition. Obviously things are a bit dated (think ugly kitchen wallpaper), but everything is VERY clean, and really in great shape. The couch appears practically brand new.

There are 1 or 2 packages of dishwasher detergent. No laundry detergent and no dish soap for handwashing dishes. I did notice bar soap. Haven't really been here long enough to check for other toiletries.

What kind of kid's program are you talking about? They have lots of activities for kids, if that's what you mean. ???

Well, we just drove down to Manassas today to catch the autotrain tomorrow.

I contacted Diamond Lane on Thursday morning to confirm my dates and requests. Got voice mail and didn't leave a number.

Can't wait to see if my requests are honored!

Had to let everyone know, all of our requests were honored. What a fabulous resort!!!!
We were in Cascades, fully renovated, catty corner to the pool, fab pool, and we were on the 4th floor with the skylight. I specifically requested the Cascades due to the decor and room layout, and loved it!

Also, though we went with an Interval getaway, they had us down as an RCI guest, so although it has been posted here that RCI doesn't always get the better sections, that was not the case with us.

There were a few minor quibbles I had. They had pepper, but no salt. We had dish washing liquid but nothing for the dishwasher itself. There are no non stick frying pans, and trying to cook anything in the pots other than water, and everything would stick. If we ever went again, I would take my own frying pan. :rotfl:

I did encounter a roach in the bathroom on our second day. That was a first for me! :scared1: , but never saw any more during our stay and we were there from Sun, the 12th to Sat the 18th. We had to check out a day early due to taking the autotrain, but that worked out really well, as we were able to take our time packing up before leaving, which we did around noon.

The grounds are gorgeous, and all the pools were in walking distance for us, except the Fountains area. We had planned on checking it out, but never did get there. My kids loved "our" pool the best.

There is security everywhere. The second night we were there, I went down to the car to get something. When I was getting on the elevator, I noticed a flashing light coming from the one guestroom. The blinds were open and I thought I saw smoke but there was no one moving around that I could see. I called guest services as soon as I got to the room and let them know there might be a problem. It wasn't long and about 5 or 6 security vehicles showed up. By this time, you could smell something burning, and hear the smoke alarm going off. I think maybe the guests had left something on the stove before going out for the evening. The next day the room was closed off with a sign and was like that for a few days. That's probably why they have the security deposit? :)

If anyone has any questions, I will be happy to answer them if I can.

It sounds like you had a great stay. :)

How far from the parks and DTD is the resort? On the resorts website, it says it's 15 miles away from AK? Is that right?

We'll be spending 80% of our time at MK and Epcot, so those are the two I'd most like to know. :)

Another question I just thought of...how close to your villa are you able to park?

In most sections, very close. The older sections are actually much better than the newer sections because the buildings are much smaller and spread out. As Sheraton developed the last couple of sections, it was all about maximum density. So for Cascades and Fountains, parking is usually pretty good unless you are arriving late. Expect a short walk to your building if you stay late for Illuminations. In Courts or Spas, you are about 15 feet from your door.

Vistana Resort (and Villages too - they are only a couple of blocks apart) are very well situated for access to the parks. from SVR, you are located on SR535 (Apopka Vineland). For DTD, turn left from the resort entrance on 535, pass under I-4 and left at the next major intersection. Follow around to DTD - 5 min.

For MOST parks, easiest route is turn right from resort on 535, right on 536/World Center Drive (next light). World Center becomes Epcot Center Drive as you pass under I-4. The signage from here is good to MK, Epcot, and DHS. You can also follow the signage here for AK, but if you go one more light down 535, right on I-Drive South and Right on W Osceola Pkwy it is a more direct route to AK.

For SVV directions are similar, but you would turn left from entrance, and go South on I-Drive to World Center, a few lights, I-Drive ends, turn right. Go Straight for Disney locations. For DTD, Turn right at Vineland (at the Publix) and follow around to 535. Right, under I-4, and then left for DTD.

For anyone travelling around Disney, I strongly recommend a GPS. Orlando driving can be confusing, and although signage is really good getting to Disney, it is non-existent for getting back to your resort!

I was too lazy to turn on the GPS last year on the way home from MK, and quickly found myself miles past my turnoff before I realized I was going the wrong way. And I've driven that route a fair bit! (In my defense, I usually drive it in daylight, and it was late!) Maybe I should have taken off my :3dglasses...

WDW is closer to the resort than US/IOA, and it seemed simple enough on paper, but............ We got lost every single time we entered Disney property. Somehow we found our way back, but it sure was a round about way of doing it! I told the kids, WDW designed it to keep everyone on property! :rotfl:

We used 535 to I-4 every time we went to US, and 535 to 536 for WDW. Easy enough to access. We also used the gas stations, Cici's, Dunkin Donuts, Walmart and Wendy's of 535, it was very convenient.

We never had any trouble with parking, but we were generally back in to condo before 9 pm. The days were hot and tiring and we all enjoyed the condo. I know a lot of people post about only using their hotel to sleep, but we actually spend quite a bit of vacation time in our room, just relaxing or planning for the next day.

DH and I are retired and will be spending 2 weeks in January 2011 at the Vistana. We were given this as a gift through RCI :) and will be checking in on a Friday.

I've read this thread from the beginning and still am not sure about something. I will be having foot surgery very soon with a possible 2nd surgery in February. Although I do not need an accessible unit, I do need either a first floor or an elevator building. I have also been told that because it is an RCI booking, we MAY have to move after the first week.

Does anyone have any experience with RCI bookings in January (how busy would it be?). What are the probablities that we would have to move?

Also, since we are retired, we would prefer a quieter section. Any recommendation?

I've really enjoyed this thread and hope for some information from all you generous contributors.

If you want a quiet section, and have a Friday check-in, ask for Spas. These are spacious but older units. The buildings are two storey, but you can request a lower unit through Diamond Lane request about 30 days prior. January is not too busy at the resort so they will probably be able to accomodate.

Other quiet sections with some Friday check-in are Palms and Springs, there is a (usually) very quiet pool in Springs section. Both sections are 3 storey buildings, no elevators. Note that Falls and Courts are Sunday and Saturday checkin only respectively.

IMO, I would avoid the denser sections in Cascades, Lakes and Fountains I/II. However, if you like the newer buildings, then Lakes Bldg 8 is Friday checkin has an elevator and does not front a pool. Most of the Fountains buildings with Friday checkin are right on the main pool :scared1:.

If your reservations are on a single number, then they should not make you move. If they are on 2 separate reservations, then they "might", but if you tag the two reservations together through the Diamond Lane request form, then I see no reason why they wouldn't try to accomodate.

Enjoy your stay!

I have another question. :)

We received our RCI certificate, with a number under my name and right above our address.

I filled out the diamond lane form (from the first page of this thread) with my requests, and I just received ANOTHER RCI certificate with a different number under my name (all other info is same).

:confused3

Did I get the second certificate because of the diamond lane requests?

I would call RCI to confirm why you have two certificates. Your Diamond Lane request goes to Starwood not to RCI, and I can't think of any reason why a request to Starwood would change your certificate. It's likely that a CSR at RCI can look it up and explain fairly easily.

Hi! My family will be staying at Sheraton Vista in November. We made the reservation through RCI with my in-laws membership. I received an email confirming the reservation from RCI and also one that said we'd been gifted our stay from them but neither contained a confirmation number.
Is anyone familiar with RCI reservations, does that sound familiar?
I'm starting to think about putting in our Diamond Lane requests and that form requires a confirmation number.
Thanks for any help!!!

My DW and 3 DD's are staying at the Vistana Resort (29 days and counting -) through an RCI 'gift' and had the exact same situation - How do I fill out the Diamond Lane request w/out a conf #? I was a little concerned at first.
I simply called the resort directly and they looked up our reservation with our name and gave me our reservation #. They were very helpful...
I used the hotel reservation # on the diamond lane form...

We are not heading to vistana resort feb 22nd 2011 . We are travelling with my parents (late 60's some mobility issues but no need for accessible room) and myself and my 2 sons. I will def need the bedroom to have 2 queens/doubles and a main floor. Only issue is that I am a starwood employee and we are not gauranteed anything other then the fact that we have a room. I am looking for more info but because this is mostly time share theres not much. Is there a section with elevators and 2 double beds in the 2nd bedroom. Please help.....

Typically how many digits are the reservation #'s? I just called to get mine since we are through RCI but the # given was only 6 digits long. I guess I am just use to longer confirmation/reservation #'s :confused3

TIA

When I called the resort directly the number they provided me was 6 digits in length. This is likely the Vistana's internal reservation #, not an RCI confirmation #. I was not overly concerned since the resort did have all of my booking info & details... :)

We are not heading to vistana resort feb 22nd 2011 . We are travelling with my parents (early 60's some mobility issues(bad knees) but no need for accessible room) and myself and my 2 sons(12 and 4). 1)Is there a section with elevators and 2 double beds in the 2nd bedroom?
2)We have reservations at chef mickeys the morning after we arrive at the contemporary resort on property. Is it wasiest to just drive right to contemporary resort then go over to the TTC center or just to go early to ttc and take monorail over to the contemporary resort? Our reservations are for 930 am and i wasnt sure if we should just be parked for the day before hand or after and which was easiest.
3)We are going february 22nd to march 3rd and wondering typically are the pools still usable or is it too chilly? We are coming from canada and unfortunatly that is the only time i could get my employee rate at the resort.
Please help I have posted before but not heard anything yet.
Countdown is on 131 more days to go......:dance3:

Hi Mighty Mom!

I'll do my best on the Vistana questions:

We are not heading to vistana resort feb 22nd 2011 . We are travelling with my parents (early 60's some mobility issues(bad knees) but no need for accessible room) and myself and my 2 sons(12 and 4). I will def need the bedroom to have 2 queens/doubles and a main floor. Only issue is that I am a starwood employee and we are not gauranteed anything other then the fact that we have a room. 1)Is there a section with elevators and 2 double beds in the 2nd bedroom?
Only the two newest sections have elevators; that would be Cascades and Lakes. All other sections are walk ups, but most ground floor units in the other sections are accessible.

I read here recently (not confirmed) that as a result of the recent renovations, all the two bedroom units except Courts section are "sleeps 8" which would indicate the presence of double beds in the 2nd bedroom. Courts is also to be avoided in your case as upper units have stairs to the 2nd bedroom on the 3rd floor.

You should check and see if *wood employees can use the Diamond Lane requests. They may be able to accomodate your request more easily if made in advance. Otherwise, I would head directly to the resort to have the best chance at changing if need be.

Never done this, but assuming you are doing MK or Epcot, I would probably opt for the TTC and Monorail. It just sounds easier.

With our thick Canadian skins, the pools are plenty warm enough. We own @ Vistana for March break (about 2 weeks later) and have always enjoyed the pools, even during the unusual 2010 cold snap. The pool was warm, it was the cold air that was hard to take! :cold:

Have fun.

In looking over the website, it never says whether wifi is free at the resort.

Is it? :)

As of last March, it was still free. Shhh, don't say it too loud though... Sheraton might realized that they could make another buck there too. The wireless is a bit slow, but that is probably because of the size of resort; wireless coverage for 35 acres is harder than coverage for your home. You have to type in a passcode every 24 hours to authenticate and continue using the service.

Ok, thanks. Their wording on the website is confusing and I didn't want to use it if I was going to be charged for it.

Do they give you a passcode?

You can ask when you check in, or call down to the front desk if you forget to ask. I don't recall seeing it "posted" anywhere in the unit.
