Thanks for the update Carol, it is appreciated..!
I was hoping that 1100 would be done before we get there at the end of March, but it doesn't look good..! Please keep the updates coming...!

The Disney CM we spoke to when we made our reservations told us that the 1600 thru 1900 absolutely did not have cable. Even after we told them that we had read online that it had been installed. I sometimes wonder if some of these people have a clue or have ever even been to FW?

I sometimes wonder if some of these people have a clue or have ever even been to FW?Most to the CRO CMs have probably never been to FW and I would bet most have no idea what different types of RVs are. We are in fact a different animal to them. As I've said before, the folks who answer the phone (i.e. reservations cast members) have differing levels of expertise regarding Fort Wilderness. Think about it, there are tens of thousands of Disney hotel rooms fitting into a few categories such as Value, Moderate and Deluxe and most rooms, no mater what property have similar size rooms, room capacities and rules regarding the room. So, the reservations cast members have most of the information regarding rooms in their head. Except for the exceptional reservations cast members, for Fort Wilderness they usually read what is on the screen in front of them.

Rest assured, there is cable in these loops. I've used it in 16, 17 & 1900....or was that my imagination? Others on the board have claimed to use the cable in 1800. Group hypnosis at different times, perhaps? :rolleyes1

Here's the question: If I'm paying for a premium site at the end of March, and the loop that I requested has not been "upgraded" to premium level yet, will I still get it..?
Yes, I know that sites/loops are not guaranteed, I'm just wondering if I would get placed in a loop that had already been upgraded/completed..? If loop 1100 (which we requested) is not done yet, shouldn't it still be listed as preferred with preferred pricing..? Know what I mean..?
just curious...

No, you will probably be placed in one of the loops already upgraded to Premium.
If you are placed in 1100, I would absolutely ask for a refund of the difference between premium and preferred.

Yeah, that's a good question Jim (DisneyDadinOhio), it would be nice if you could request 1100 and note on your reservation that you are willing to take 1100 whether it is Full still or if it is converted to Premium. But I think Carol is right, if you book Premium and 1100 is yet to be converted they will likely ingnore your request and put you in a Premium loop rather than offering to let you down-grade into a Full. I think, given your trip date, I would go on and book Full, request 1100 and ask them to note that if it has been converted that you'd be willing to pay Premium to still get 1100. Disney is all about making a buck so that may work. If it doesn't, you'll end up in 1600-1900 and find that they are nice loops too. Actually, keep an eye out around here, there is sure to be a post as soon as they clear 1100 out for renovations and you could then call and ask to upgrade to Premium, if it seems they'd be done in time.

I hope they do the 700 loop next. If they started it now then it would be finished in plenty of time for Easter (12 April). We're coming down on 5 May and I hope to be in the 700 loop as a premium site. I really like the proximity of that loop for short stays especially since we won't be bringing our golf cart.

I already ranted a bit on this already... but by paving the sites over in the 1400 loop... Disney ruined a tradition for our family. The last 3 years we paid extra and got a 1400 loop site so the 5 kids could go to the campfire and watch the movies, we tent camp and have a great set up! Our kids would call this our "Disney home". Now its ruined.... thanks.... all I can say is we won't be back this year. We really liked that loop, and I'm heartbroken.... I'm sure you won't miss the money from us, with the improved profits from the new sites.... but I kinda hope you do....
I was also talking with a neighbor last year, who got a site on the 300 loop and was upset with the loop and changed to the 1400 loop. We have been to the Fort 5 years in a row now, and NEVER been offered a site in the 100, 200 or 300 loop... it was these peoples first trip and they got a 300 site and didn't even want it. We were even offered on the phone making reservations for a 100, 200 or 300 loop site, and then get a attitude at the check in office like we have to be priviliged to camp on them loops.:headache:
Well I doubt the mouse cares... so we will stay closer to home this year.

Send a letter or an e-mail to Disney. I agree, they are making too many sites all concrete and not "tent" friendly. When we biked on 3/22, I noticed the sites on 1400 that were on the canal had bumpers on the back of the sites so you couldn't accidentally back into the canal. All in all, I didn't care for the reno of 1400.
For those interested in 700, it's closed and the reno's have begun.

I mentioned that before about Disney's greed in making to many premium sites. And good luck on getting anything in 100 or 200. Seems like everybody wants these sites now.

Mousebrain, could you elucidate in what way the paving ruins your family tradition? Is it because you have been priced-out of your favorite loop? Is it because you need a pad for a tent for your camping setup? If Disney doesn't understand why their improvements are detrimental to some guests then they unlikely to be swayed from their course.

Deb- Thanks for the update about the 700 loop.
And, I agree with those who feel that there are too many premium loops. In my experience at the Fort, a lot of people with motor homes and trailers still set up tents on their sites. I know some people would prefer no tent pad, but I still suspect that most people would like to have a place to set up a tent on their site.
As far as a good alternative to the 1400 loop for tent campers, I would suggest the 1500 or 1600 loops. Those are both nearly as convenient to the Meadows area, and both now have cable, so they are comparable to what the 1400 loop used to offer.

No current signs of other loop closures. They are probably waiting until after Easter.

It remains to be seen if those loops will be converted at all.

I'm watching this with interest. The 900 and 1100 loops are my two favorite loops, so I'm waiting to see if they are converted before my summer trip. (If Murphy's Law applies, they won't be. I paid extra for a premium site assuming those two loops would be converted by that time.) As always, wait and see...

Carol, we will be at the fort on the 24th, staying 2 nights. I would love to meet you. Last year in Oct. we stayed in the same loop, I think it was 900 but never got to meet up, we had a lot of family down. How long r u staying? My DH is going to Moffit Cancer Center for his follow up vist to find out what we need to do about the tumor on his kidney that afternoon before we come. I hope we are celebrating, but what ever the results, it always could be worse.
I hope we are bringing our new cart, my DH is selling a new brand of carts, he is looking for dealers and distributors, the one we have now is only a 2 seater and if DD and GS comes it will be tight, but I love the cart.'

Ok,... I hate to even ask this question, especially with all the updates on the new loops but, I've been looking for an update list as to what loops are considered tent-pop-up/full-hookup/preferred/premium?
We've always stayed in the 800 Loop,...just because I loved how wooded the area was,...we were last there May 2008,....I noticed that in oct. 08 TCD mentioned and posted pics of it being refurb. up.... SO I guess my question now is,....I would love to find something similar to my beloved Jack Rabbit Run,... but not premium prices. We are bringing a pop-up and don't need all the bells and whistles. We could honestly just do the cheapo site. I just would prefer to be in the "woods"..... SO.... What do you all recommend? Also is there an updated site map with the new loops and site #'s? I haven't booked our trip yet, and I'm dragging my feet (I know I know) We are wanting to visit the 1st week of May, so I may not even be able to be picky....I just need to be close to a comfort station (I will be 7 months preg. and I have a newbie potty-trained 2 1/2 yr old)....so thats it

As of right now:
100 - Preferred
200 - Preferred
300 - Preferred
400 - Premium
500 - Premium
600 - Premium
700 - Premium
800 - Premium
900 - Full
1000 - Full
1100 - Full
1200 - Premium
1300 - Premium
1400 - Premium
1500 - Partial
1600 - Full
1700 - Full
1800 - Full
1900 - Full
2000 - Partial
I have no clue on pet or non pet at this time.
Shady - eh, that's a tossup. There is shady and nonshady in every loop.
(Oh just a note on 900, 1000, and 1100). Those loops were supposed to be converted to Premium back in Jul/Aug 08. They were skipped. We don't know if they were behind schedule and just started where they were and will come back to them.
Another possibility is they will be left alone and remain full hookup.
A third possibility is these will be left alone reclassified preferred due to their location.

If you are talking May, 2009, then book a full hook-up, and request 900, 1000, or 1600 (in that order) (1100 is nice, but several of the sites are right on top of cabins in the 2100 loop, and I wouldn't want to risk being assigned to one of those), and ask for a site near the comfort station. I just stayed in 900 last week. It is a really nice little loop, and still is very wooded. Very similar (maybe because it is next door-duh!) to the 800 loop, but a lot smaller (which is a good thing IMHO). It was originally announced as being a loop that would be converted to premium, but so far, it hasn't been.
And- if you have a pop-up, you can also go with the partial loops 1500 or 2000. They are both nice, and because of their layouts, all of the sites are pretty convenient to comfort stations.
A lot is going to depend on what is available.

I would say shoot for 1600, but ask to be away from the road. 1600 is quite shady and it has two (count 'em, two) comfort stations, so you are sure to be near to one of them. It is also nice that it is quite close to the pool (but not so close as to hear the noise from the Shamu-sized splashes of the Shannon-ball Express).
Carol, you are a very clever girl... skirting the whole pet/non-pet drama!

We are shooting for a mid-May FW stay and wondered how the site upgrades are going. We have a 35 foot 5th wheel so we really want to be in an upgraded site. Our last two trips (most recently in Oct 08) resulted in being yammed into a very tight site in 300 (next to the large and much decorated motorhome, highly visable from the road) and we dont want to repeat this.
We are DVC members, but convert most of our points to reservation points at FW since taking up RVing. There does seem to be some confusion between DVC and FW personnel as to how the upgrades are progressing. Any advice or info would be greatly appreciated.

The first post in this thread is updated as the upgrades begin and finish, so keep an eye out here. There are no loops being upgraded at the moment due to the Easter rush. In fact, some of us suspect that all the upgrades may be done at this point, but that remains to be seen. If not, loops 900, 1000 and 1100 are yet to be converted.

I hope that this is the end of the upgrades, unless of course they plan on building new loops*. It would be a shame to have a gazillion Premiums and only 3 Preferred and 4 Fulls.
*Possibilities include between 1500 and 300, or between 1400 and the tennis courts, or between 700 and TCD Ranch, or across from 2000, or between River Country and Wilderness Lodge.

After being in 1628 I would say they need to spend some time on this site, it was narrow and required some serious adjusting to get both my slides out which meant the truck had to be parked mostly on the grass. If it werent for the GG and being close to my peeps I would have required them to put me in another site. The site had about an 8" drop off the slab, 2 ft from my steps, I rolled my ankle once and almost bit the side of the trailer. I would have to say that this was the worst site I have ever had at Disney.

We just got back from a week in the 1600 loop with our pop up. Shan is right (as always), this site has two comfort staions, and is up by the road so the bus stop is also close.
There were lots of trees so it was still like camping in the woods, not like the new 600 loop that is all open.

I would also love to see more loops. I have a pop up so I don't need and cann't afford the premiums. I suggest some more tent/pop up sites across for the 2000 loop. Good thing I have a cart thou becasue that is way out there.
As for as upgrading the rest of the loops, I hope they are not done. It would be nice if the gave all the sites the new grills and tables.

Bad news, Shannon. I just called the front desk at FW to see about the status of full hookup sites in early May. Asked if 900, 1000 and 1100 will remain FH or if they are still going to be converted to Premium. After being on hold for an eternity, the CM said the 900 is scheduled to begin conversion at the end of April, followed by the other two loops. I asked about FH pet loops and he said 1600 thru 1900 are all pet loops.
I was really hoping 900-1100 would remain FH, oh well . . .

This is our first RVing trip to FW. We're staying in a 40ft RV for a week at FW beginning July 4th.
In our group, we have four adults with four children and a dog.
Which site should we ask for? ... our priority, in order, would be recreation for the kids then access to showers.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

First, :welcome:
Second, you didn't tell us what type of site you have reserved, so if you could post that we will be better able to assist you. Site types are partial, full, preferred, and premium.
Third, although you could request a specific site, it is probably the least likely type of request to be honored... it's just not very likely that it will be vacated the morning you arrive. It would be more productive to request features and then suggest parts of loops that you think would best fit your needs. This way, if the assigner cannot put you where you've requested, he knows why you requested it and can try to honor those needs elsewhere. For instance, 1600 might be a great choice for you since it is a pet loop, walking distance to the pool and has two comfort stations, and if your ressie is for a Full site, this would be my recommendation. So I might in my request write "I'd like to be walking distance to the pool and close to a comfort station; the first half of 1600 (away from the road) looks ideal." This way, if 1600 is all booked, the assigner might decide a site in 1700 fits the bill pretty well and give you that instead.

Excellent advice Shan-man! We've always included WHY we want a particular area - and not just a specific site number - and have been fortunate enough to get our request. I'm sure it helps that we go at a slower time of year too (early Dec). During busier times like July 4th - which is one of the busiest weeks of the year - and depending on when you're arriving, it's going to be even harder for Disney to honor really specific site requests.
:welcome: Jaekaetee and have a great trip!

We requested a premium site with room for a tent. ... Is 1600 a premium site?
Finally, you mentioned that "I write in my request ... ", what does this mean, and at which point do I do this; is this done over the phone or when we arrive at FW?
Thanks for the help guys.

Just got back from a day trip to the Fort. It looks as if 900 is going to be next for the reno's. While most loops were pretty well occupied, 900 only had 6 or 7 spaces occupied. It looks as if once 900 is empty, the reno's will begin. Just an observation.
ETA- we didn't go near the pool area, so I have no updates on the splash zone - sorry!

What seems to work for us is having our request noted on our reservation when we make it (or added later - but before we arrive) and then faxing our request about 4-5 days prior to arrival to get it in the hands of the person doing the site assignments.
The standard fax form is lurking in a thread here somewhere... (give the search function a whirl, it should turn up along with the fax #)

Ok, a Premium. There are several Premium loops that are convenient to the Meadow Pool (which I assume is what you mean mostly when you say you want to be close to recreation). They are, in order of proximity: 1300, 1400, 600, 1200, 500, 700 and 400. I would not recommend 600 or 700 because they don't have a comfort station in the loop. 1400 is a pretty cramped loop and it might be hard to do a large RV and tent. 1300 and 1200 would be good choices since they are close to the pool and also have a play fort, tetherball and volleyball court on the loop. My personal favorite loop is 500, which is not too far from the pool and campfire, it is right across from the play fort at 300 and the dog park, and it's more convenient to the marina area than the others previously mentioned. Hope this info helps.

Is 500, 1200 and 1300 pet friendly?

And finally, why is 500 your favorite loop?

500 is definitely a pet loop. 1200 & 1300 seem to vacillate back and forth. I love 500 because it is in the middle of everything, it has it's own CS, it is close to the marina so you get all the atmospheric sounds, it is largely a shady loop, the sites are deep (if not quite as wide as say 800), there are bus routes off two sides so if you see that you just missed the bus off the front you can opt to go to the rear stop, and at Christmas the mega-decorated loops are close by.

We always try to request a loop and usually get our choice but a site # would be tough I agree thats why we go in that early Dec time also last year we tried Oct so as to see the not so scary stuff for a change of pace from xmas was lots of fun but busier i would also consider the 500 loop still has the meadows and access to pool and dog park will be acroos the streetalong with the play ground for the kids and fishing in the pond what more could you want

That is a good question. Unfortunately, no one will be able to give you an accurate answer right now, as all kinds of conflicting information is floating around. This much is clear, as of this month, there are poop bag dispensers installed on the following loops: 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900, 1600, 1700, 1800 and 1900. There are no poop bag dispensers on 100, 200, 1000, 1100, 1200, 1300, 1500 and 2000.
The loops with poop bag dispensers obviously are allowing pets. You would think that the ones without the dispensers do not allow pets. But, in my trips to the Fort this year, I have seen campers with dogs on these apparent non-pet loops. Definitely not as many, but I have still seen the occasional dog on these so-called non-pet loops, including 1500 and 2000, which are partial hook up loops, and have never been pet loops.
So, if you are trying to be away from dogs on a premium loop, I would say 1200, 1300 and 1400 are your best bets, for now.

The loop was very empty. Maybe only two or three campers there, and I recognize one of them as a long-termer that was there in December. I would make sure you tell them at check-in that you don't have a bathroom and that you need to be near a comfort station. It is probably too late for a fax to be effective.

Quick update...I just checked out on Friday and they are still working on the 700 loop. At this point they are still pouring the extended concret, but they are now at the back of the loop and making progess. Sorry, no pics to show, but be aware that if you request the 800 loop and want to be near the canal like say site #855 it might be a little noisy during the day due to the construction. But, on the other hand the 800 loop shouldn't be as crowded for this reason. When we were there during the week at site #854 we had no neighbors. It was really nice as the newley changed loop 600 was packed!

When is your trip?? They are just finishing up 900 from the sounds of things, then I'm assuming 1000, and 1100 will follow soon after. If your trip is in the next week or so, you might make it. Anything after Memorial day, probably not.

As of 5/10/09, the grills and most of the picnic tables are in on the 900 loop. All concrete work is done, and the landscape guys were working on Saturday installing bushes and hooking up irrigation lines. There are bales of pine straw waiting to be distributed. I say 900 will be open this week. (I will have some photos in my soon-to-be-started trip report).
And, when we headed out on Sunday, a little after noon, there was one trailer left on the 1000 loop. Every other site was empty. I think we all know what that means . . .

The 1000 loop is finished and they placed a lot of campers in there today- weather permiting i would expect 100 loop to be ready in a few days
As of yesterday (June 12) the 1100 loop's conversion to Premium is complete. It was opened and filled yesterday morning.

Evening of 6-29 and still no campers in the 700 loop. :confused3 There are not working in the loop any more not sure why they are not putting any campers in that loop. The only thing I can figure there are a lot of open sites left today in all categories.

A large group reservation may also be coming in also. Easier to keep it empty if there are plenty of other sites.

I visited the Fort on 7/18/09 to see how things look.
It appears that the loop conversion project is complete.
There have been no reported loop closings since the first of the month, and there are no signs of any construction at the Fort at the moment.
Now that the dust has settled, where are we?
I checked the loops for poop bag dispensers. Obviously, the loops with dispensers are intended to be used as pet loops, those without are not.
I also checked with a castmember at the front desk, who confirmed the following designations independently of my visual observation of the poop bags. Based on my subjective questioning, I confirmed that this castmember was a reliable source of information.
Of course, Fort management has changed what loops are designated as pet loops in the past, and could easily do so again, but this is the state of things at present:
100 preferred non-pet
200 preferred non-pet
300 preferred pet
400 premium pet
500 premium pet
600 premium pet
700 premium pet
800 premium pet
900 premium pet
1000 premium non-pet
1100 premium non-pet
1200 premium non-pet
1300 premium non-pet
1400 premium non-pet
1500 partial non-pet
1600 full pet
1700 full pet
1800 full pet
1900 full pet
2000 partial non-pet
The pattern that has clearly emerged is that the premium loops closest to the dog park are pet loops. Premium loops further away from the dog park are not pet loops. For some reason, all of the full hook up loops are pet loops. There are no full non-pet loops. And, of course, the two partial loops remain non-pet loops.
What remains to be seen is whether, now that the construction is done, the Fort management will enforce the non-pet loop designations.

TCD! Again, thank you for the investigative reporting!!
Just a history fact here (cause we all know I'm old and have lived the history ). Back in the early 90's when FtW decided to allow pets at the sites, the original pet loops were 1600-1900 as full hook-up, and were lovingly known as the "doggie loops". 300 was a preferred "doggie loop". If they had more people with pets than pet sites, they would over-flow into 1200 & 1300.
I'm very glad that there are a lot more pet loops available, even if they fall into the high-priced premium category. To those of us with pets, they are our babies just as much as the human ones and I, for one, would not think of going camping without my "camping kitties"!!
Now....if TCD says it, you can take it to the bank!! :thumbsup2

TCDI am getting very frustrated with the loop conversions. When I try to get an answer about the pet loops, I can't get the same answer twice. According to the reservation cast member today, the 1700 and 1900 are not pet loops. They are regular full hook up. The only full hook up pet loops are the 1600 and 1800 loops.
Does anyone have any additional information? I was quite happy with the way things were. We are coming to the fort the end of October and because of the conversions, I had an easier time getting reservations for 2 weeks last Christmas.

This is consistent with my last post, above. All of the full hook up loops are currently being used as pet loops.

The bottom line is that the pet and non-pet designations are for planning purposes. If the pet loops are full and they need more pet sites, than campers with pets can be placed in non-pet loops. This happened to us last fall, but didn't bother us or our neighbors. We wouldn't think of going without "our girls", so we're glad that the Fort would make these arrangements. :grouphug:

we were thee last week, first time on 600 and it is really open compared to our previous stays, after I got used to it wasn't bad but is definitely a different look.
Of course they've been rimming and removing stuff all over the place so few spots are as "woodsey" as they were.

Does anyone have any pictures of the premium sites? We have a Class A motorcoach and we do travel with our very small quiet dog. We require a premium site with 50 amp service because our coach is all electric. Anyone out there with any advice as to what loop to consider. The grandchildren will be with us when we show up. I hope to be able to do this for March or April 2010. Thank you. :goodvibes

Do you want to be near a playground, or the pool, or transportation, or the campfire? These and other considerations will determine which loop you might request.

Ok, planning big gathering at the Fort. Some will be in campers, some in cabins. Which loops should we request to have the best chance of being the closest to each other- even if it is just through the woods? Isn't there a cabin loop off to itself that backs up to a rv loop?

Yes, there is a cabin loop and camper section that back up to each other. I believe the 1100 loop backs up to the cabins and part of the 1000 loop may also back up to it, but I am not 100% positive on that one. Also, in the 100 loop of the camper section, they have 2 or 3 cabins in with the campers.

Your post is kind of off topic for this thread, but I will go ahead and answer your question. The only cabin loop that backs up to a camping loop is the 2100 loop. It backs up to the 1100 loop. Here is a thread with some photos:
Cabins close to campsites (http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=27821827&highlight=cabins#post27821827)
The specific sites on 1100 that back up to cabins are: 1111, 1113, 1115, 1116, 1117, 1119 and 1120. The cabins that back up to these sites, more or less, are 2124, 2126, 2128, 2130, 2132, 2134 and 2135. I gave those to you in order, so the matching pairs are 1111 and 2124, etc. 1120 and 2135 sit right next to a paved sidewalk that leads to a comfort station that sits between the two loops. But, as you can see from the photos on thread that I posted the link for, you can easily walk between the cabins and the sites. In order to request a site in the 1100 loop, you would have to reserve a premium site. In case you haven't read it somewhere on here before, all you can do is request to be placed close together. They cannot and will not promise that you will be close together or assigned to particular cabins or campsites. Good luck, and have fun!

You are right about 1100. No sites on 1000 back up to cabin sites. There is a canal behind the 1000 loop that cuts it off from the neighboring 2000 and 2100 loops. There are two cabins in the 100 loop, but these cannot be reserved.

They don't add pet loops. But, they will put pets in non pet loops if need be. You may also get upgraded to a premium pet loop, 400 and 500 are right across from 300. It's all good. :thumbsup2

The Disney CM we spoke to when we made our reservations told us that the 1600 thru 1900 absolutely did not have cable. Even after we told them that we had read online that it had been installed.
I really wish they would give a class on F W to the reservation people. It does have cable.
