View Full Version : December 11, 2010. 7 Night Western - Magic

I've been loitering for a month or so hoping someone else had started this, and then thought hang it, I'll start one myself.

A little about us. We have paid a deposit on the 7 night western cruise on the Disney Magic leaving December 11th 2010. There are 4 of us, myself and my wife and my 2 daughters who will be 17 and 14 at the time. The cruise will be in the middle of approximately 5 or 6 weeks in Florida, so it's a big occasion for us. Whilst we would have celebrated our anniversary in August of that year, this is our 20th Wedding Anniversary present to ourselves.

We come from a small rural village just outside of Sydney in Australia. While we've been to the West Coast and Disneyland a few times, we've never been east to WDW. In addition this is our first ever cruise as well, and we wanted our first to be a DCL cruise (and we just couldn't wait until the Alaskan cruise come to fruition).

These boards seem a good way to at least get to know of some other people who will be on the same cruise prior to sailing, which for us is a good thing. We're not really a very outgoing family so having contact before will be helpful. It's always nice to have someone to say g'day to as you pass them and have a quick chat about what they've seen or done that day.

So that's it. G'day to all the 12/11/10 cruisers, we're looking forwarding to chatting with you over the next 20 months or so and to meet you come the day. If you're a regular DISer or cruiser, I'm sure we'll be able to utilise your experience as well.

Thanks for starting a site! I've been waiting for someone to do it!!

We rebooked onto this cruise on our Eastern last December. We last did a Western in Dec 2005 that ended up with a modified schedule due to a hurricane wiping out Cozumel the month before we went.

There will be me, DH, DS (who'll be 6/almost 7) and DD (who'll just turned 4). Two of our friends are also booked on this cruise as well with their DD who'll be 10.

Looking forward to meeting everyone over the next 2 years!!

G'day HallsofVa and thanks for replying. It's going to be handy having someone around who is experienced to pick up the odd tip or 2. Although we do like to just wing it and experience things as they happen, it's also beneficial to be able to understand the finer things like formal dining etc before we get on board.

And thank you for putting the link into the list as well. I've never struck a minimal post condition before, but I suppose that'll come and go quickly. Look forward to "chatting" with you and others who pop by over the next 20 months or so.

Now I know there are other people booked on this cruise. Several from last December's cruise said they rebooked. So where are you???????? Or are you holding out posting until after the release plans for the new ships to decide whether to cruise in 2010 or 2011??

Hope all are well.

Definitely quiet this far out. Given the flurry of activity on the other dates I thought there'd be more here. Maybe we'll have the ship to ourselves ;)

I know there were several others from the cruise this past December who also rebooked for this one, but several of them said they're waiting for the 2011 dates to be released to consider moving the cruise out a year, especially if either of the new ships they started building today will be ready by then.

That's okay, we can still have a good time!

My DH and I have been reliving the cruise experience recently - I ordered some of the shampoos, conditioner and body wash we had on our December cruise from the company who makes them for DCL. So now I imagine being back on board everytime one of us showers with the stuff!

arje

I know what you mean by reliving trips past. Only having been to DL in Anaheim so far, we often listen to the music or do something that puts our mind back there. I'm at work now listening to park music as I type this! :cloud9:

Even things like having a coffee will put us back there and we start talking about it. I'm hoping, and expecting that our cruise experience will do the same. But I'm also scared that it will be as addictive, not all that cheap to do these trips from Australia at the moment.

Hi everyone, we just booked today for this cruise, we went on the 3 day wonder in December past and just rebooked this one, I kno w we should have done it onboard.
It will be my family of 4 and my mom and sister.
arje, you are bringing your 2 daughters 14 and 17, I am bringing 2 boys, 14 and 17, what are the chances of that. the time will fly as we all plan together, maybe we should do fe exchange, I didn't on my last cruise but people sure seem to have fun with it.

G'day newrygirl, glad you can join us here. Having a family of similar ages to us will be handy for sure. And with more cruise "veterans" to call upon as time progresses will also be very useful. Looking forward to chatting over the next year and half and meeting up on board.

Welcome newrygirl! Can't wait to get to know you better as we countdown to this cruise! Alas my kids are on the younger side of you two, but I'm sure there'll be others! You guys should start some penpal correspondence or something!

So did you feel the 3 day just wasn't long enough? Our first cruise was a 7 day Western, and we were worried it was too long, and ended up hating having to get off, so I don't know if we'll be doing anything shorter anytime soon!

Hi HallsofVA,
The 3 day was our first cruise ever and yes it was way way too short, I feel like i hardly saw anything, we also have done 10 days at Disneyworl before the cruise so by the time we boarded the ship we were all pretty tired. I can see why people say that once you go on a Disney cruise you are hooked, I can't wait to go on the 7 day one, I just wish I had booked onboard for the discount and onboard credit, although I did use DU and got their onboard credit. I see for one of your cruises you upgraded to the Roy Disney suite, I bet that was awesome. I can't wait, hopefully time flies but then again why wish for life to fly by. We are going on a vacation to Ireland for 2 weeks in July so that is something to look forward to. i am so happy to meet you all, thanks for welcoming me.

My family will be going on this cruise in December. It is a big year for all of us so we just wanted to do something nice for everyone. My oldest daughter will be 15 and our youngest daughter will be turning 13 on the vacation. My husband and I will be celebrating 16 yrs of marriage. We live in Missouri and have been on one Disney cruise back in 2003. We have been wanting to come back sooner but we could just not make it happen. We look forward to getting to know everyone through this board and if anyone has any girls close to my daughters ages maybe they can chat.

G'day krisngreg. We'll have 2 girls, and our youngest will be 14 on the cruise (15 the following March), so I'm sure that perhaps they'd be glad to start chatting. newrygirl will have a boy the same age as well, so some of the kids might be able to get to know each other. Look forward to chatting and meeting up!

Posting to bump us back up to the 1st page. Where is everyone??

We need to get some of the super profilic posters that I've had on my last 2 cruises to get our page going and keep it active. Anyway, I hope everyone is having a good year!

I have to admit to not being a prolific poster early on. But that will change. I suppose being still 597 days until we sail ...

Which does raise one discussion point. We've all been hit hard with the crunch, and one of the other issues we face on the under side of the world is the exchange rate. I made a decision to pay the balance at a certain rate, to maximise my cost, but we are at that rate now, which presents me a dilemma. Is it too early to pay the balance this far out. Has anyone paid in full so early, and if so is there any benefits or pitfalls with doing so?

And now that this is my 10th post, I am now allowed to send PM and insert links - woohoo.

Hey All,
just dropped in to say hi to everyone, hope everyone is doing great. The cruise seems so far away but I guess it gives us more time to get to know each other before we all meet, we are planning on doing a meet right?

You may want to post your question in the main forum so others can chime in, as I've never paid that early before. Certainly Disney has guidelines on your money being fully refundable until 90 or 105 days out, and those are standard. Some of the reasons I've heard for waiting until closer in include:
a) hanging on to more of your money for longer rather than giving it to Disney interest free, since you could invest it and earn some additional interest rather than giving it to them all in advance. [This is the obvious reason, but sounds like it may not work for you with the exchange rate issue.]
b) if you have any plans to move your reservation to a travel agent (from DCL) to gain additional on board credits and perks, you can't move it once you are paid in full. [If this is a possibility for you, then I'd suggest you perhaps pay *most* of the cruise leaving a small amount unpaid to keep you from being PIF until closer to the date, leaving only a small amount at risk of exchange rate losses.
c) having greater flexibility to move your dates around since you don't have as much money tied up in one cruise that you then have to get back to move it to a new cruise if you change your mind. and
d) Not having the money saved up yet, so paying early isn't an option.

But like I said, I've never been PIF that early so I can't offer you direct advice.

Congrats on reaching the minimum number of posts!

Hey everyone,
just wanted to say Hi to everyone and say that our party of 4 has now jumped to a party of 8, my Mom decided to come along and then my sister decided to join her in her room to save her the single supplement(my sister has never cruised) and then my in-laws who have never cruised either have now decided to come along, we got 3 cat 6 rooms all in a row, my kids are so excited that all their grandparents are coming and their crazy fun Auntie. Looking forward to getting to know everyone, are we planning on doing a fe and a meet, on my first cruise i didn't do that but while on board the people who did it seemed to have so much fun.

Thats some good points HallsofVa, definitely food for thought. I've been focussing mainly on exchange rate and haven't considered it from another point of view. I'll give it some more thought and head on over to the main board if I need more help.

Wow newrygirl, that is going to be one party for you on board. The kids do like having extended family around for sure. We did a trip to DL in 2003 and took my parents, and then unexpectedly, my wife's brother took his family over so they had grandparents, uncle/aunty and cousins. Made a great trip.

I think a meet for sure. Have no idea how or where, but I'm sure that will be sorted out closer to time by those of you in the know. FE are still a mystery for us and I'm not so sure about them, but then there is plenty of time to be convinced. I've read plenty of threads on what they are and looked at some examples, but understanding how and what to do would be the biggest challenge.

When you all go on this cruise is this the only thing that you'll be doing while in Florida?

We're making a big trip for this. We are making the most of our 19 or so hours of flying each way, so we'll be in Florida for about 5 weeks taking in WDW for 3 weeks as well as Universal and Sea World and other things (as well as a stop over in Anaheim at Disneyland on the way home).

So what is everyone else doing? Cruise only or staying a little while as well?

My husband and I would love to take that long of a vacation but it is just not possible. Our plan is to drive from Missouri and stay in Florida for a few days before and hit the beaches there. Then drive back, the drive should be around 20 hrs with breaks. Should make fun/fight family time.

We are going to fly in from canada about a week before and spend a week in wdw, my sister has never been so we want to take her, this will be my families 9th time to Disney World and our second cruise, we just got back from a 10 days in Disney and the 3 night cruise in December. We have never been to Disneyland but are thinking of doing a one week trip there this October or November, any tips for Disneyland?

Wow! That's an awesome vacation!! And explains why I've never made it out your way for vacation since I haven't yet be able to make it long enough to be worth the trip out there.

For our past 2 cruises, we've only done the cruise, arriving at the Orlando airport the night before, and flying out the day of the cruise. But part of that is having had a 2 yr old on both of our cruises, and feeling they were too young to justify spending money in the parks or anything. Not sure if we'll do anything before or after this cruise. Still too far out for us to decide! Though I was contemplating doing a back-to-back cruise for awhile by doing the Eastern the week before this cruise. Think I'm going to hold off to save money for a 2011 cruise.

Many of the folks we've cruise with over the years have combined the cruise with a WDW vacation, especially Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party (MVMCP I think). One of the coolest things I ever saw was pictures from the behind the scenes tour, where they got to see how Disney creates all of the holiday decorations and perhaps floral arrangements for the parks and ship.

I noticed that we ended up with a similar countdown ticker and was laughing that your countdown is one day behind mine. I assume it because of the time/date difference between your location and US Eastern Time? Is that the case? Ultimately I guess they're going to have to catch up (since I'm in the same time zone as Florida)

Some interesting responses.

Then drive back, the drive should be around 20 hrs with breaks. Is that 20 hours each way? Either way this is some commitment, driving that long to a cruise. In Australia we're used to driving long distances just to get somewhere, but this is a hike and a half. Your driving and our flying times are pretty well the same, so in a way we share a common goal :thumbsup2

The length of our stay is only possible because I've been working at the same company for over 23 years and have nearly 6 months worth of long service leave saved up and we also get 4 weeks annual leave a year as well. Another thing is, it's summer at home and the kids will only miss a couple of weeks school because they start their long holidays about a week before xmas and don't go back to school until the start of February.

And explains why I've never made it out your way for vacation since I haven't yet be able to make it long enough to be worth the trip out there. Halls, of course it's worth it to come out here. We're all friendly people, there's plenty to see and of course the weather is great all year round wherever you go, except Melbourne, that place is miserable :rotfl: (little piece of interstate rivalry there). And don't forget for you to come here, it's much cheaper for you than for us to go there.

I liked the countdown ticker as soon as I saw it on the Disboards. It's different, it's nice. I am using it on my regular Australian club boards, and they also thought it was great. The days difference would probably be explained by the time difference when we're logged in. Because sometimes when you're logged on, we're a day ahead on the calendar. But there's no chance we'll be missing the boat, so it'll work out in the end.

We are going to fly in from canada about a week before and spend a week in wdw That seems like the best time to go too, crowds should be down and the xmas stuff in all it's glory. We're going after the cruise, but in the few days before the cruise, I'm going to buy tickets to the Mickey and Minnie's Very Merry Xmas Party and go then, when the crowds a little lighter. That way we get a taste of it before we actually start our marathon stay starting xmas eve.

Sorry for my long respose, but I was curious as to how "locals" approached the cruise and holidaying in general. I am aware that many of you get less annual leave time than we get, but it's interesting to hear how you handle the limited time available. I'm enjoying this! :cool1:

This is what I was referring too in not being able to make it out your way. Though I've been at the same company for 17 years, still only get 22 days vacation a year (doesn't accrue over that point) and have yet to take it all at once other than being on maternity leave. Plus, for us to cruise during our summer months, you're right in the middle of Hurricane season and that just doesn't seem terribly fun. Not to mention it's too darn hot and humid in Florida in the summer.

Halls, of course it's worth it to come out here. Trust me, I'd love to come out there. But now I'll have to wait until the kids are old enough to enjoy it (including the 20 hour flight!!)

We are still debating if we should drive or fly. I am pretty sure that it will be the drive since we save so much more money. I would rather spend the difference on fun stuff.

Hi everyone! We are booked on the 12/4/10 Eastern and still thinking about jumping ship to this cruise. We usually cruise the week before Christmas but we're kinda bored with the Westerm Itenerary by now...
After 6 months of thinking about it, I'm tempted to go back to this cruise because I can't imagine the kids missing two weeks of school instead of 1 (or even worse, missing a week, going back for a week, then off for Christmas break! UGG!)
So, I guess we will make the big decision here soon and let you know!

Hope you end up joining us! That said, I've been toying with the idea of joining the 12/4/10 cruise! We currently have 2 rooms booked (connecting Cat 6's) for our family of 4. I'm debating as to whether we'd need both rooms, and have considering moving 1 room to the 12/4 cruise so we could do a back to back. But I'd also like to go on the Wonder PC repositioning cruise in 2011, so I may end up saving my money for that cruise instead. Still to be determined. But the more the merrier!

By now, we've done 1 eastern and 1 western, though our western in Dec 2005 was modified to go to Costa Maya instead of Cozumel at the last minute. We honestly don't really care about the destinations, since we love being on the ship so much. So we've been alternating just to keep from being in a rut!

Welcome to our little group! We're not huge talkers yet, but I'm sure that will pick up as the time gets nearer.

As for the Wonder PC cruise, it hasn't been officially announced, but it is widely assumed. Once the first new ship comes on line and will be ported in Port Canaveral, it's already been announced that the Wonder will be based out of the West Coast. And since they have to get it some where, and wouldn't sail it empty, we all assumed a Panama Canel repositioning cruise for the Wonder sometime in 2011. It would be the Wonder's first (and perhaps last time for awhile) trip through the PC, which adds some excitement to the mix. There is a huge meet thread already for it, and no date has been announced!

This week I was looking at one of the Med cruises in April/May 2010, since they offered the Kids Sail Free promotion. Some of the prices for those 10 & 11 day cruises are about equal to what we're paying for 2 rooms on this cruise. However, the airfare is a killer, and I figure it's a bad sign that the cruise keeps repricing itself on the website, so I don't think we're going to do it. At least not for now!

Sometimes I feel like the cruise will be here before we know it. School is getting ready to start for the kids and before we can blink the Holiday's will be on us. So for me I know the time will fly, but today it feels like it is never never going to get here.

I agree krisngreg that it will rush up on us, but sometimes it just still seems so far away. On one hand I can't believe that it's already over 6 months since we booked, but then I think how far away it is and it seems so far.

But what I'm trying to do is do little bits and pieces along the way just to keep myself on my toes. For example, just yesterday, a small package arrived with our PAP for WDW in readiness for that part of the trip. Got them now to avoid any price rises and take advantage of a favourable exchange rate. :yay:

DAPford, I'll have 2 girls of reasonably similar age (14 & 17) along for the ride too.

I know what you're saying DAPford, but I'm inclined to .

I think it's an age that they can easily go off on their own and enjoy themselves and just meet as many different kids their age as possible. Add to that, from our perspective, it gives them an opportunity to make hopefully some long time friends with some kids from a different country (and us as well of course :thumbsup2). My youngest will definitely make it her mission to do that, the eldest though tends to like her own company, but she's still friendly. I know my youngest is itching to start chatting with kids on the cruise now, nothing like starting early.:rotfl2:

Hi there!

We'll be joining you as well
We just booked 2 cat. 10 connecting rooms on the Magic and are now counting down the days ;)
It will be our first cruise as a family. I've been on 3 cruises before (with Carnival) and dh has been on the last one with me but it'll be our first one with DCL :cool1:
We are traveling with our 4 kids : DS (9 at cruise time), DS (7), DD (5) and DS (a month shy of 3 at cruise time).
The kids are all excited. They've been looking at the DCL site and watching the DVD ever since we told them we booked. It's going to be a loooooong wait...
Looking forward to "meeting" you all :)

Just posting to let you know that our plans have changed, and we won't be on this cruise anymore. We'd originally had 2 rooms booked on this cruise, along with some of our friends. In August we moved one of our rooms to the Westbound Transatlantic. And since that falls too close to this one, we knew we'd need to move this one. Just today, we moved our reservation up a year to the 12/12/09 Western, and our friends moved their ressie as well.

I know you'll all have fun, and I'm somewhat sad that I won't get to be on the Magic after it's next drydock. I think I was the 2nd or 3rd person to post on this thread, so its sad to be leaving you all!

Hi all,

We will also be joining you after just booking a few days ago. :cool1:

We are also Aussies coming over for a holiday. It will be good to here another Aussie accent on the ship Arje.

We will be travelling with our two kids, both girls princess: 5 & 7 at time of cruise. They are most excited at meeting kids from other countries.

This will be our first cruise. Doing the whole Disney thing with WDW and cruise.

This is our first post after checking sites before booking so be gentle with us!

Looking forward to meeting you all.

HallsofVa, shame to see you go. But at least your'e still cruising on another one. Hope you enjoy it.

G'day Tanooki and blackduck, glad you can join us. Blackduck, my wife and I were wondering if we would come across any Australians and just how many made the mammoth Perth like trek across East to do WDW and more important, the cruise. Looking forward to meeting you both Tanooki and Blackduck.

Although some people in Quebec might not consider themselves as Canadians, I am not one of them, so you can say that we'll be six more Canadians on board as well ;)

Wow, wow, wow! I wish I was taking this cruise just to sail (and learn) from you! I have appreciated your responses to my questions as I studied about DCL the last few months! We just returned from our 9/12/09 cruise and booked 12/11/10 while we were onboard. Unfortunately it's just our "dummy date." We plan to book in 2011 when it's available. We do plan to be in WDW in December 2010 though!

Hi everyone! We will also be joining you on this cruise. I have tried to convince DH to switch to the Wonder PC repo, but he's holding firm to this date/itinerary because he is addicted to Stingray City and DS will finally be old enough to experience it (he turns 5 the week before). I am excited to have snagged a SPH room for this sailing. Will check back later after our Double Dip this November. Can't wait to meet all of you!

3, Wow, if only. Hope you're not cruised out soon - but I highly doubt that. ;) G'day and nice to have you.

Hi sharen24. Yeah the PC repo would be a great one to do, but I'm sure a trip around the Caribbean can't be that bad in comparison. We didn't really care where we went or even what we see. As long as we're on a Disney Cruise ship and we're back at WDW in time for xmas.

You are right. Any trip to the caribbean is a good one! We did the eastern last year and love St. Thomas. We did the western in 2003 and loved Grand Cayman, but hated Jamaica. This year we get to add Cozumel to our list of new places and next year Key West will be the new port. It's fun to always try to mix it up a little bit, but I would be happy to go anywhere DCL wants to take me.;)

Interested to hear why you hate Jamaica. That is one place I would love to go to, but maybe for different reasons. I am one of the many millions of Australians that just worship the game of Cricket, and Jamaica is one of those meccas to visit to watch cricket (Australia playing the West Indies of course). So curious to hear your take.

Hi again!

I so wish I had 3 more cruises before this one too! :worship:

We came back from WDW a month ago and we'd be ready to leave tomorrow in a heartbeat... We just love everything Disney, but we just can't do it too often. Traveling as a party of 6 gets pricey, even with all the best intentions ;)

Our kids will be 9 (boy), 7 (boy), 5 (girl) and the baby (boy) will be 2 but a month shy of his 3rd birthday. And if the past is any indication of the future, he won't be potty trained by then :rolleyes1 but it's ok, he'll stay with us :)

Hope everyone is doing well and finding things to do to make time go faster. We can't wait so it's going to be a loooooong 438 days...

Hello, we will be joining on this cruise as well. There are four of us (my wife and I along with our two daughters - ages 11 & 12). This will be our third time on the Disney Magic and the thing we are most looking forward to is visiting Castaway Cay again.

DCL is one of our favorite cruiselines (Celebrity being the other) and definitely the best one for families. We're also huge Disney fans and will add a week in WDW to this cruise.

Looking forward to "chatting" with everyone as we anticipate the upcoming cruise.

Has anyone booked on the Disney Dream yet? We thinking about booking in April 2011 (wow, that seems like a long way in the future).

G'day all. Unfortunately we say farewell before we sail. Due to a change in circumstances, we are no longer on this cruise. We have had to transfer to a January 2010 cruise instead. Hope you all enjoy this cruise and perhaps we'll cross paths on another one in the future.:wave2:

So you lost one but gained one!
My family and I are jumping from the Dec 4th Eastern to your cruise and I can't tell you how relieved I am to be doing it! This will be our 4th DCL cruise. It's me, DH, DD12, DD11, DS9 & DD6 at sailing. We are trying to talk our friends into joining us but no luck so far!
I look forward to getting to know all of you over the next year! (and now I will be gonig back to read 5 pages of posts to catch up!)

Well that didn't take as long as I expected to catch up! I guess I'm used to the meets with 100+ people to get to know! I think I'm gonna like our little group!

arje & HallsofVA so sorry you are leaving just as I get here...How are we gonna post important info on the 1st page when you two are the only ones who were posting on there?? Maybe the Mods can help us with that. Or maybe someone here is gonna have to create a webpage for us! haha! Any takers?

We considered it but now we are going to wait to book on board. It seems like the prices are comparable to 2009 prices on the wonder so I didn't see the need to jump in and give Disney anymore of my money to hold onto for now. Especially with Christmas coming!

My DH and I just got off the Magic 7 day Eastern. We booked this 7 day Western while we were on the cruise. Not sure if we will keep it yet as we also have a family vacation to WDW scheduled and 2 weeks of vacation time in December may not be possible for me. But for now, we're booked!

It makes it seem really real now that it is under the year mark. I am trying to play mind games with myself....thinking ok gotta do Christmas then Easter then daughters graduation. So by that point we are talking 6mths. If I want to be even more crazy I can through in how busy summer is with two kids. Then back to school......I guess I really am just a sad sad case!!!

Hi

I have just swapped our 4 nights Disney Wonder cruise to the 7 night Western :woohoo:

This will be our first disney cruise (first cruise for DF), and were getting married in WDW next December so this will be our honeymoon too!

Were sooooo excited! Just started making payments, going to pay a little each month so it doesnt seem so painful!:lmao:

We booked this cruise online but we were on the Wonder this December and re-booked so we could take advantage of the discount. There will be two of us and this will be our 5th Disney cruise. We have been trying to take one cruise a year as it is a way for us to really get away from the office. They have tracked me down all over the country but it seems if I leave the country they don't want to call internationally. Looking forward to some site seeing and relaxing.

Now that we are officially in 2010.....the cruise seems even closer. I am not sure how everyone else is dealing with cruise withdraw but my husband and I at least once a week log on to see pictures of food or the picture of the day. The last time we cruised was in 2003, so we are long over due.

Happy New Year Everyone

We're still in the planning stages, but chances are very, VERY good that I will be booking this cruise in the next month. It'll be me, DH, DS (6), & DD (19).

We've been on a 4 night cruise but that just wasn't long enough. Also, we decided that we dislike the Bahamas even more than Jamaica. So, with this cruise we won't have to go to either one of those. Plus, it's going to my & my DH's favorite cruise destination...Cayman Islands!

Any DD's 10-12 at cruising out there that would want to get to know my DD's via emails or such? My girls are bugging me to "find them friends from the cruise!" because we have done this everytime in the past so that they would have built in playmates!

The last 2 cruises we did I always felt like I was missing stuff even though I was on the board daily-it was that busy! It's kinda weird to come to this ghost town..haha

But looking at the up side, maybe this means we will have a 1/2 full ship! That would be great!

Our DD will be 12(turning 13 on the cruise) and 15. They do not know we are going. We just told them we are going to Florida. If I can hold out and not spill the beans. If I crack under the pressure then I am sure the kids would love to get to know each other via computer.

heheh good luck on that one! We surprised our kids one year by not tellling them that their friends were going to be in Florida at the same resort at the same time as us and it was really hard not to tell. Of course we only had to keep mum about it for 2 months....you have 11!

If you do crack we for sure have to get them to communicate online. I'm hoping they can go on knowing they have a few friends they can get together with. :goodvibes

Well our thread needs a bump and I hope we get more people chatting as well. I'd love to get to know some of the people that we are cruising with. I suppose I'll start with myself and family.

First off we are from Ontario, Canada as I mentioned before. My DH (43) and I (37 soon to be 38) own our own business and are making up for many years of no vacations finally over the last few years. It started off with one trip to Florida a year and then snowballed from there. Needless to say we became DVC members and LOVE using our points.

We are easy going people that enjoy a good mix of relaxation and activity/sight seeing during our trips. I think this cruise will be perfect for us.

My DDs will be 13 and 12 during the time of the cruise...the youngest just having turned 12 on the 23rd of Nov. It was my oldest that got us into doing the yearly Disney thing. She handed us a piece of paper when she was 5 that had an 800 number on it and told us that she wanted to go here. We had no idea what number it was and so we called it. I'm sure you can guess what it was for. It didn't take much for us to decide to do a Disney trip, my hubby and I were big fans already.

Some of our favourite Characters would have to be:

Dan (DH) - Donald Duck - Anything Donald and he is a happy man.
Brenna - This is hard for me to choose really. I would have to say I have several...Mickey and Minnie of course. You gotta love the mouse! Daisy, Pluto and Chip and Dale.
Danielle (DD) - Goofy is her favourite I would say atm.
Alyssa (DD) - Loves Stitch because he is such a trouble maker, and Eeyore because she thinks he just needs lots of love to make him happier.

I'm sure there are more for my girls, but those are the ones that are in the brain atm.

So that is it for now..I hope to hear from more of you soon!

krisngreg

OK...I guess it is my turn.

We are from St. Louis Missouri and it is so cold right now that all I can think about is sandy beaches.

My husband and I did our big vacation in 2003 with a Cruise and since then to no avail have we been able to make it back on either ship. We have done little things with the kids each year but once you go Disney it's hard to compare other things.

I work from home and my husband works for a helicopter flight service. We also are an easy going laid back family, unless our two daughters start in on each other and then I have to get involved due to it drives me crazy.

Our daughters will be 15 (freshman) and turning 13 on the ship (7th grade).

As far as our favorite characters......that's a hard one. When I see any of them it puts a smile on my face. But the big guy (mickey is pretty special).

My daughters have not watched a cartoon disney movie in some time so I am not 100% sure which is there favorite at the moment.

It sure would make things a lot easier-since the people who posted all over the front page aren't even on our crusie anymore?:confused3

Anyway, I am Andrea. Cruising will be myself 37, DH 38, DD 12, DD 11, DS 9 and DD 6 at time of sailing. This is our 4th Disney cruise. We are planning on a few days after the cruise at the parks, no real plan yet (which is totally out of character for me-usually by now I would be fully in planning mode but I just don't have it in me this trip for some reason?!)

Hey Andrea, Glad to see some life happening in our meet! Looks like your 2 oldest DDs will be in the same areas as my two!

I was wondering if we should start a new thread and have them delete this one and then use the new one as the link for our meet.

As for why you aren't excited...perhaps you just need to find something new to achieve during this cruise. For me I have to discover so much information about what to do, when to book things etc. (I've got my Mickey ear magnets already printed out and put on my fridge with a fake room number heheheh. My DH thinks I'm nuts, but he loves it cause it has started him to get excited really early about going as well.)

Were Gemma and Henry, were both 26 and this is our first Disney Cruise. Were coming from the U.K to get married in WDW (and bringing 15 members of our family ), and then were honeymooning on the Magic and having a couple of nights at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge following cruise!

Going to book airfare at the end of the month - need to get in there early to get the cheap rates :surfweb:
