My DH and I spent last Victoria weekend in Niagara-on-the-Lake for the first time ever - and we loved it! We have been to Niagara Falls many times, but never N-O-T-L. We greatly enjoy Stratford, and many of our friends said that it was better than Stratford in terms of its beauty and charm - and they were right! We stayed at a fabulous resort called White Oaks Resort and Spa off of 403 (Glendale exit). It was 10 minutes away from the Falls, and 10 mins. away from N-O-T-L. It is an incredible place - beautiful gardens, spa, restaurant, and the rooms are incredible! I highly recommend it. We had tons of fun visiting all of the little shops and restaurants - and of course, my DH is an ice cream fanatic, so he was in heaven! We had a great romantic weekend, and even visited Mori Gardens landscaping (incredible place) and brought home several plants for our new home.
We had a great weekend - and so for those who have not been before, I highly recommend it.
In regards to the Falls - My DH and I decided that Niagara Falls is more tacky and expensive than ever (some things are more expensive than in Disney!) and can't stand the fact that most places have the US prices first. Planet Hollywood doesn't even quote CAN. prices (we hadn't noticed this last time). The food also leaves something to be desired as well. We also were frustrated with the fact that many places had ridiculous payment options: cash only (we don't carry cash), no Interac or only 1 credit card. For a place that is so tourist driven, you'd think that they would get their act together and offer as many payment options as possible since that means that people would spend more money! Anyway, just needed to vent. For those who live in Niagara Falls - I apologize, as my intention is not to insult anyone. I live in a border town as well (Windsor) and things are much more organized here than what we saw in Niagara Falls last weekend. We noticed a big change since the last time we visited 3 years ago, with the biggest problem being that driving is very dangerous! The entire Clifton Hill area should be pedestrian accessible only - I was hit by a minivan that went through a red light! I was not injured, just grazed my hip, but my DH was VERY angry to say the least. They have a lot of work to do in our opinion in regards to improving Niagara Falls, but Niagara-on-the-Lake is just wonderful!
