I noticed that that Samantha Brown Special is on at least twice that day. 8-9am (central time) and 3:00-4:00pm (again central time)

Aww, shoot, I won't be able to watch the show. Oh, wait! I will be in the Magic Kingdom on that day;):cool1::yay::dance3:

Nyyah Nyyah Nyyah!

Yay! Congrats on all your ADRs!!!:banana: Sorry bout that dingleberry CM! :headache::headache:

Hi Kathy,

I have been lurking for a long time and wanted to say HI:wave2: and that I am loving all your trip reports and pretrip reports.

I have a 12 year old daughter and can totally relate to trying to give them more freedom but also keeping them safe as well as dealing with certain mood swings sometimes:scared1:!!!!

Your October/November trip sounds like it is going to be a great time and I wish my kids would have some time off in the fall so we could visit at Halloween time, we always seem to go in late May or early June and would love to try another time of year.

It was so frustrating not to get them Saturday, wasn't it?? Hey, we still haven't received them "officially!"

Thanks again!

Oh, I'm sure they will make changes... I'm already noticing that they didn't really take Daylight Savings into consideration. We "fall back" on November 1st... a 6:30 Fantasmic just seems awfully early to me.

I've gone twice during Jersey week and they've always been 7:30 - 8:00 :confused3

Hi Kathy,

Hi Stacie! :wave2: Thanks for De-Lurking!!

So far we've made out pretty well twice with "Jersey Week," and I simplly lucked out the it's early this year and we get to experience the MSSSHP.

When the kids were younger we went at different times because it didn't matter if they missed a week of Kindergarten or 2nd grade.... that's how we went in early December one year and were able to do the MVMCP!

I'm worried about next year, though. Tricia will be in High School :scared: :faint: so even missing half of a week is difficult to make up.

We may wind up going in April again... I'm simply not interested in going during the summer. April may work, however...

Billy goes to a private school and he has Spring Break the week after Easter, but Tricia goes to public school and in our town they give them Spring Break the week before Easter. Last year Billy missed a week of school, but Tricia didn't miss any. His teachers and therapists don't give us any trouble because he actually makes tremendous social and verbal progress after his trips to WDW!!

So, as our family situations change, so will the opportunities to visit The World during different seasons.
Yours will, too! :goodvibes

Wow! I mean, WOW!! I can't believe you slogged through this entire report!! :faint:

Thanks for all the lovely compliments. You should definitely consider writing a PTR... it's lots of fun and a great way to channel your DFI (and keep your family from going crazy listening to you all the time!)

I sent you a PM about SSR... what little I can remember about our stay there. Too bad it was pre-DIS and I never got a chance to write about it...

(I think your user name would be so cute if you changed it to DizMomLiz!!)

Kathy

Thanks for the welcome :) it was a fun read, you really do have some great readers and it gave me lots of ideas for our upcoming trip! I'm fortunate the my DH loves Disney as much as I do so we share DFI, but I will seriously think about a TR after this trip, if I can figure out photobucket?! :rotfl:

Will be responding to your PM momentarily, but just wanted to say thanks for all the help! :goodvibes

Love the DizMomLiz, too cute :lovestruc do you know what it would entail to change the username? would I lose all my subscriptions, etc?

Well, the November Park Hours and Entertainment Schedules are finally out... and so naturally I've been busy "tweaking" things.

Itinerary to be posted soon... let's just say that getting Park Hoppers is now a necessity!

The Bad News: Only two showings of Spectro and Fantasmic during our stay! :headache: (I'm still stubbornly insisting that more will be added... but I planned our evening around one of the shows currently listed... at 6:30 pm!!) I've never seen Fantasmic scheduled that early, even in January... And, I may have to sacrifice seeing Spectro to fit that in. :sad2:

The Good News: A few of my ADRs may have changed dates and times... but we still got all the restaurants we originally wanted. And I still have plenty of resort time scheduled for Ed.

Sigh... if only Billy didn't have his  set on Fantasmic this year!!

Yeah, the entertainment is really scaled back this year. Makes things a bit harder to schedule for sure. I still wonder if we will see Wishes, I'm thinking they might show Hallowishes on the 30th instead.

Woohoo for you! It must be so great to have those hours out, so you can do some real, SOLID planning! I feel like without any idea of what the hours will be you can hardly schedule ANYTHING.

I wonder, truly, if holding off putting the hours out until folks have made their ADR's is a way of kyping more $$$ out of the helpless public by semi-forcing them to get PH's? :confused3 Seriousy, HOW can anyone make and ADR- it's like a stab in the dark? Who would know if you want to eat dinner in a park that may or may not have a parade you've been wiating to see for a year?? It just plain old makes me mad! Even Dollywood has their hours out a YEAR ahead of time!! (Sorry, rant and hijack over! :flower3:)

Anyhow, I"m glad you're on your way to getting things worked out, and doubly glad you could still get the ADRs you wanted ! And I would hold out hope that more things will be added...Let's keep our fingers crossed for you!

Perhaps.

The limited entertainment just means that the particular park will be mobbed that night. Yuck!

It's funny, but I feel like Disney is doing the same thing.... keeping their fingers crossed and hoping that more folks will make resort ressies and buy park tickets!

It's too bad that the loyal WDW vacationers... the ones who really spend $$ at Disney over and over... are the ones who are suffering because of lower attendance.

So, totally agree! All this nonsense makes me less enthused about planning ANY extras- At. ALL! F! Dinner Pack.: meh! Who would do that now with so much uncertainty (I know you're thinking about this, but with Billy needing less line and all that, I do understand) but for the rest of us, we don't even know squat about really how long before to line up, etc...

It's like that with everything. I am just hoping that before we go next year, things will be more certain. :confused3

This is the second time that Hammer has made an appearance on my PTR!!

(I'm still debating the harem pants for my Halloween costume.)

Tricia wants me to wear a skirt because she thinks the baggy pants will make me look fat! I told her that I was more interested in comfort than looks and she just shook her head at me. :sad2: Ed likes the skirt better, too.

Hey, do I really want to be climbing in and out of rides all night in a skirt?? I don't think so!

they are crazy. Pants. Definitely. And :sad2: on Tricia's comment. Love how sensitive kids are. Kind of like when DS10 loves to point out my "silver" hair at the roots in front of other people and discuss loudly how he thinks I should let it all be silver.

Very cool on the park hours, bummer about the limited showings, that's exactly what happened to us this year and then they moved firework times to boot (and all within 40 days of our trip!). About the only thing that felt like it didn't change was which park had EMH.

Heh Heh... I know... I've got my own "silver threads among the gold!" :grouphug:

Yes, EMHs didn't change so that helps.
I'm just hoping that the general park hours will lengthen like they did the last time we were there for Jersey Week in '07. Last year's schedule also shows extended hours for the last (most crowded) half of Jersey Week... double Fantasmics and double Spectros, too.

Of course, that was when Fantasmic was showing every night...twice on Fridays and Saturdays. :sad2:

Spectro was shown four nights that week and two of those (Fri and Sat) were doubles for a total of six parades.

Yet, the ticket prices keep rising....

Ahh, the good old days!

Don't lose heart yet, Kathy. Disney didn't add in the second Fantasmic viewings ( 9:00, 10:30) for our vacation dates in June until late May.

as another poster said the added Spectro thing occured for us too a week before we left and then they added 1 more that day....

so you just never know.

You are a great planner I'm sure you'll come up w/ a good plan and if the hoppers help give you some ease, than that may be the easiest and less stressful choice.

Are you and ED on AP's this trip or was that a diff trip :confused3 anyways just a Q for you?

w/ a DVC ressie does everyone need to be on the same type of ticket? or could for example Matt and I have AP's while the kids just have 7 day somethings....

TIA

looking forward to reading your updated schedule/itinerary popcorn::

Yes, you can have whatever combo of tickets you like... the room ressies are not linked to your park tickets at all! Our APs have expired... I'm not sure if I want to get them again, even if Ed and I are able to swing a weekend alone next year (2010).

The AP used to be good for at least a 40% (non-DVC) room discount, but those room-only discounts have been largely replaced by the Free Dining packages and the Disney Visa packages. The current AP room discounts are no where near the old 40%.

We may just get eight-day passes for the kids and ten day (non-expiring option) tickets for Ed and me. That way, if we don't get to do our weekend, we can just roll them over to our next trip.

Then again... we do get $100 DVC discount for each AP, so we may wind up doing that... I'm still thinking about it. :confused3

If we could squeeze two family trips within 11 months of each other, heck, I'd get APs for the whole family like we used to!! But I'm not sure if we'll be able to do that. We may have to go back to choosing Springtime trip dates once Tricia is in High School so she won't miss any class time... so that means our next big family trip would not be until April, 2011. :sad1:

Funny how I just get finished with the itinerary for this trip and I'm already thinking ahead to the next one!! :rolleyes1

I'm definitely thinking along those lines. But, I no longer think they will add more Spectro and Fantasmic nights, just add double shows on the nights they already have.... probably more economical that way.

But, we will hope for the best! :thumbsup2

Good luck!! :lmao:

I feel the same way. For our December trip, it was supposed to be a "relaxed" trip and between MVMCP, La Nouba, Keys to the Kingdom tour, Deluxe Dining, Candlelight Processional, Osborne Lights it was just getting :scared1: :scared1:

Hopefully you guys are able to strike a happy compromise between doing everything you want and relaxing, I know that's what I'm aiming for on our upcoming trip(s).

Great score on the resort discount!

When the kids were small, we used to go to a park with early EMHs in the morning, go back to the resort to nap after lunch, then head out to a different park in the evening (because the morning EMH park would be crowded by 10am!) That strategy worked well with little ones! :thumbsup2

Your 80's photos totally cracked me up-I'm a little younger than you-(I had my special birthday with the 4 in it last year...and I'm sorry to say that I have photos of myself with those hairdos-and since I have very thick, curly hair I was able to rock that style...now the blowouts of the 90s with all that straight blown out hair killed me...:lmao:

I am so excited to keep reading your report-you are a wealth of info-and since I'm hoping to take a trip at almost exactly the same time next year...I'll be taking notes...

Kidani-huh-that's fabulous!-I'm going over there during our vaca since we'll be at Jambo house to get all kinds of photos...there may be a DVC in our future too- just not sure which one...

This looks like it's going to be a great trip!! Seriously, I myself, probably wouldn't have done it any other way! I cannot WAIT for your review on the Biergarten and to see your pix from Kidani!! I am so excited for you!

I"m sure you'll be fine tuning some this month, but generally it looks wonderful!

Thanks, Liesa! Old favorites warm the heart, but the new experiences tickle the fancy! I will be sure to take lots of pix!

We love having DVC... but I warn you, once your family stays in the DVC accommodations and you are spoiled with having a washer/dryer and kitchen, it is hard to go back! I wish we could add-on, but it's not do-able right now. Fortunately, WDW isn't going anywhere, so perhaps in the future!

All the resorts are fabulous... I can understand not knowing which to pick.

We try to stay at different resorts, but then you have to deal with the 7 month window availability which, depending on the time of year, can be an issue. I'm so glad that we were able to get the one-bedroom/two-bathroom villa at Kidani!! :thumbsup2

Terrific! I was only waiting for you to get your schedule together... I'm adding it to my spreadsheet now!!

Great looking itinerary! :thumbsup2 Great luck with getting the extra hour of sleep after the party. You are going to have SO much fun!

DD7 had the party CD in the other day and told me she really wants to go back at Halloweentime so we can do the party again! Not going to happen in 2009 though, not enough DVC points.

I Broke Down and Bought a New Camera! (Shhh! :ssst: Don't tell Ed!!)

A few years ago, I bought my first digital camera from QVC. It was a Pentax... just a little point-and-shoot model... nothing fancy. I'm not a big photography buff; I just like to capture family memories.

Perhaps someday, I'll catch the scrapbooking bug and get them all out of boxes!

Anyway, I really liked that camera... it was so easy to use. Unfortunately, I dropped it and it died a few months before our last Disney trip (April, 2008). Ed felt bad and even though we didn't have a lot of extra $$ floating around, he knew that I wanted to take pix for my trip report. So, he went out and got another inexpensive camera... a Nikon... so that we could take pix on the trip.

I was very grateful, but....

Honestly, I wasn't too thrilled with this replacement camera. Not only was it more difficult for me to use, it only had 6 megapixels... whatever they are... and the old camera had 10, so I really saw a big difference in the clarity of pictures from our last trip.

I wasn't going to complain, though, because with all the renovation expenses and our mortgage fully doubling because of them, I decided that a new camera would simply have to wait.

Until....

I just happened to be flipping the channels around and I landed on QVC just as they were showing another Pentax digital camera! This one was much like my old favorite, except it had 12 megapixels and promised even sharper idiot-proof pictures for our next vacation!

And, best of all, on five monthly payments! :yay:

Hey, I thought, our budget can handle that! So, I went ahead and ordered it. It cost about $200, so thats $40 per month. It's not like I'm breaking the bank or anything... it's just that I do feel a bit guilty spending even more money on this trip.

On the other hand, I'm rationalizing, if we are investing so much in this trip, both materially and emotionally, it stands to reason that we should have a decent camera to capture the moments. I hope Ed agrees!! :rolleyes1

Tricia will be the happy receipient of the "old" camera... so it will be fun to share photography duties with someone for a change! I'm looking forward to seeing her pictures!

Here's my new camera... And, yes, I ordered it in red!

Wow-I'm behind but slowly catching up-just read up through page 48 and all about your trip to see Little Mermaid for Mother's Day!!!:cool1:

Sounded just fabulous-I wasn't so sure about LM-but after reading your report of it I'd love to see it-the songs from the Little Mermaid are fabulous...did they write any new ones for the shoe-(we've seen Mary Poppins and they did for that-which was also amazing)

I love how you bought the soundtrack ahead-I do that with David too-he adores music also...It seems like a lot of kids all over the spectrum are either very good at music-perfect pitch, etc. or at least find it soothing/relaxing/comforting.) -You got some really nice pictures of Billy from that day...:goodvibes...

You are right-it is SOO Expensive to see a Broadway show-its a shame because its become so cost prohibitive and it can be really rough to take a family and yet I think its such a great experience for a kid...

so maybe they'll run another special next year if not for 15th year-maybe something else...

(I think I remember something from my Passporter newsletter-that they were running some kind of special---hmmm-just don't remember exactly what...

oh btw-we saw the Radio City Christmas Show last year-I wasn't sure at first-it was expensive, it thought it would be really corny, etc... But I loved it-it was fabulous-it reminded me of something from a totally different time-like the 30s-it was a little corny but soooo good and so much fun...

Hi! You're a dedicated reader to be slogging through this giant report!

Billy's school Parent-Student Association ran the trip to Radio City for the Christmas Spectacular. They got discounted tickets and a chartered bus, which sealed the deal for us because Ed hates driving in the city! I agree, it was a great show!! :goodvibes We even bought the DVD, which Billy watches a lot... in fact, he was watching it last week!!

Ed doesn't seem to mind that his son likes to watch the Rockettes!! :lmao:

Unfortunately, The Little Mermaid is closing on Broadway very soon... I believe it is going "on the road" after that. I'm so glad that we were able to take advantage of the anniversary special... it had been ages since I'd seen a Broadway show and this was our kids' first time!

There's nothing like a live performance!

First, congrats on the additional weight loss! :thumbsup2

Score on the new camera! I love the color. I hope you like it just as much as you did your previous one.

When the kids were small, we used to go to a park with early EMHs in the morning, go back to the resort to nap after lunch, then head out to a different park in the evening (because the morning EMH park would be crowded by 10am!) That strategy worked well with little ones! :thumbsup2

This is kinda what I'm thinking too...mix it up a little. I haven't had time yet to review the schedule again/crowd levels/etc to form a new plan, but we'll see! :goodvibes

I've always had cameras that were black or silver... I thought red would be fun... and easier to find in my bag!!

Oh, we're always tweaking plans... that's the fun part, right? :goodvibes
We like to have park hoppers because we feel it gives us flexibility in case... after all that planning... we do decide to change direction at the last minute!

Very nice! Congrats on the new camera---can't wait to see the pics in your TR, I'm sure it'll be $200 very well spent. One tip for keeping the lens of the camera de-fogged when moving from your hotel room out to the warm humid Florida weather would be to keep it in a ziploc baggie when you leave your room first thing in the morning. That will allow your camera to get adjusted to the outside temperature without being exposed to the moisture in the air---which should keep your lens from fogging! :thumbsup2

Half way through...

I'm glad its not just me! I was beginning to get a complex.;)

Dang it...I knew why the WW ads were popping up too-when I did a post on Aspergers-I got ads for sensory integration products for a couple days-its a teeny bit creepy that the computer can pick up key words and feed a tie in add onto your post...(& technology isn't my forte so I was excited to know)...btw...congrats on the weight loss...

& then I missed a whole bag enabling portion...:confused3-I admire your bag packing ability-you could keep a small village going for a little bit...:lmao:-well done...

In related PTR News....

Today I took Aunt Rae shopping at Best Buy. She had a coupon for Paul Blart: Mall Cop that was burning a hole in her pocket and she wanted to use it before it expired. (She also wanted to get a copy for Ed for a Father's Day present!)

Anyway, we're looking around and I noticed that Disney has released some of their classic shorts from "the vault." I could not resist, especially because one of them was The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. For some strange reason, we never had this on DVD. (I seem to remember having The Wind in the Willows on VHS a while back, but we no longer have even that.)

How does this relate to our Halloween PTR, you might ask??

Well, the Boo To You Too Halloween Parade is led by a ghostly rider on horseback... the Headless Horseman!! The kids are not even remotely familiar with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, so I'd like them to watch this before our trip so they can get the full effect!!

Now, the only problem is... I really want to watch it now!!!! Should I wait until its closer to Halloween, or just go for it???

Kathy

I see you just went for it & watched-good for you...:lmao: I love the Headless Horseman & all of those older Dis cartoons...You're going to get to see him at the Halloween party...:yay:

Hey Everybody!

Sorry I've been neglecting my report (and yours), I just haven't had much time to DIS this past week. :sad1: I've been working on a new project to be named later...

A few tid-bits:

The new camera arrived and I plan to test it out this weekend... we're going to be "down the shore" at DSis' Eileen's house until Wednesday, so I prolly won't be DISing too much until then!

Ed's pirate costume has been sitting in our closet for about two weeks and he still hasn't tried it on for me! :headache:
I hope it fits...

I ordered the pirate/harem pants for myself and am waiting for them to arrive... there's no way I'm wearing a skirt, long or short, to the party! It's more important to be comfortable.

My ticker keeps ticking... I can't wait to be able to say, "Next month I'm going to Disney!!"

Thanks for reading! Until next time,

Hey Everybody!

We're home!

I'm definitely going through DIS-withdrawals! It was a busy week... I spent a lot of time with my sisters and their families... a little beach time... a little pool time... and a whole lot of cleaning and helping Eileen get ready for a triple birthday party at her still-being-renovated house (I know what that feels like!)

Some quick PTR news:

*The new red camera stayed in its box the entire time! Honestly, I was just too busy to get out the instruction manual and get the thing all set up.

Sorry to disappoint... I promise I will get it together soon.

*I did get to watch a few Disney shows that my niece recorded from the Travel Channel... that was very nice! Catie is absolutely dying to try Expedition Everest! I'm glad, because she was a bit bummed that Space Mountain will still be getting refurbed during our trip...

*Ed tried on the pirate costume... Blech! He looked like a cross between a Ninja assassin and a foppish Medieval courtier in mourning. I hated it! Not only that, the pants and shirt were much too big and the vest and belt were ridiculously small. Needless to say, that costume is going back...

*My black pirate/harem pants look good, although I think they're a teeny bit short (I have long legs), but Ed and Tricia both agree that if I get the next larger size that I'll be swimming in them. I will reserve final judgement and give it a few more days before I decide to keep or exchange them.

*Tricia and Catie were shopping together and found a comfy pair of black flat "scrunchy" boots that will work very well with their pirate lass costumes and can certainly be used this fall/winter for regular use. :thumbsup2 Fortunately it was available in both of their sizes.

I'll post more tomorrow and will catch up with every one of you...

Hooray!! You're back. Sounds like you had a busy, but nice time with your sister, having BD parties, and just hanging out. I don't blame you for not getting the camera out. I bought a new one last year, and it took several hours, straight, to get it set up.

Too bad about the costume. But glad you know it now, and not on party day!

*Ed tried on the pirate costume... Blech! He looked like a cross between a Ninja assassin and a foppish Medieval courtier in mourning. I hated it! Not only that, the pants and shirt were much too big and the vest and belt were ridiculously small. Needless to say, that costume is going back...

have fun "down on the shore"
sounds like an old 1920's B & W film....;)

We North Jersey folks actually call it "down the shore!" It took me awhile to adjust because for many years I lived "at the shore!" I live in the northern part of the state now, so I have to use "down the shore!"

I love the new camera! If my husband only knew how my spending habits have been shaped by the dis, he'd have it blocked from home. I keep thinking about getting a waterproof camera. Then I forget. Then I see that someone has purchased a new camera and I think about it again.

I finally showed Ed the camera... he was impressed... not too upset because the price was so good, but he did want to know why I hadn't mentioned it earlier! :rolleyes1

Nice new camera!
I hope you're having fun at the Shore.
I'm glad you have the good sense to try things on. I would keep it in the pkg and then just try it on the day of...and I call myself an OTP!

Hi Jordan! I hope you're feeling better!

The only thing I don't like about ordering clothing online is that you can't try things on! I'm a big believer in trying on... not every manufacturere makes sizes the same.

For example, I've always found that the a lot of the Disney clothes I purchase online run truer to size than the clothes I buy at the Disney stores. They are probably made in different factories or something....

I hope you're enjoying your new camera, Kathy and are getting lots of great pictures at the shore.:goodvibes Ahhh, I could use a few relaxing days at the beach right about now. Not much longer until you can say, "Next month I'll be in Disney.":thumbsup2
Sounds like a great time to me.:thumbsup2 Ah, to have long legs. What a dream.:cloud9: Aren't pirate harem pants generally a tad short? I can't wait to see all of your costumes.:yay:

Again, sorry I don't have new camera pix to share... the beach time was fun but I wouldn't say it was relaxing. We moms had nine kids aged 2-13 to keep an eye on!

I think the harem pants just feel strange because they are button-cuffed at the bottom so I feel them around the ankle. I'm sorry, but you have a bit more to wait before I post costume pix... I want to wait until all costumes and accessories have been assembled and I seem to be buying them piece by piece.

Welcome back!! Glad to hear you had a good time.

Thanks Tracy! I missed you guys!

Welcome Back! So glad you had a great time.

Sorry about Ed's costume, glad he finally tried it on so you can have time to look for something else now.

Definitely! ::yes:: In fact, I need to do that today....

Thanks, it was fun to get together with everyone! As my younger sisters have more and more children, it seems we just get busier and busier throughout the year.

My DBIL surprised everyone by renting a HUGE inflatable water slide and the kids had a blast! Good thing, too, because it was 100 degrees out that day!

Sounds like a great time!

It was, thanks!! :goodvibes But its always good to be home.

Welcome back. Bummer about Ed's costume!

Thanks! Oh well, its easy enough to return it. The difficult thing will be finding something else. He does not want to wear anything with ruffles. That's okay. Unlike the girls' boots, I cannot imagine that he would be re-using a shirt with ruffled sleeves and a jobot ever again!! :lmao:

I've been away for a while, so I'm still catching up, but I wanted to say that stinks about Ed's costume!

Like everyone says, thank goodness he tried it on early and I now have time to get something else. Believe it or not, the Halloween stuff is already coming out in the stores!!

Great news about the boots! But, not so great about Ed's outfit. I hope you are able to find something else that will work. I'm with ya on the pants being too short thing-that always happens to me too. :headache:

The pants are okay now, I just hope they don't shrink in the wash. They're 100% rayon so I guess its either cold water wash and hang to dry or else the dry cleaners... I don't want to take a chance and inadvertantly turn them into knickers!!

I'm with you on how hard it is to catch up! Fun though...

Glad you had a good time at "the shore" as your Jersey / Pa people say. Your comment about the pirate costume is funny. :rotfl2: What a visual that is!

Thanks... he didn't look quite how I expected he would. We've taken to calling him "The Dread Pirate Ed!" I will say that he did look dreadful in that outfit!

Welcome Back

Hope you have better luck with your costumes on the next one. At least it gives you something to do and look forward to again ;)
The boots for the girls sound cute.:thumbsup2

Thanks! One of Mom's many roles... costume director!

The boots are cute; we just warned the girls that they should wear some thick socks with them. They are flat-flat... not too much support. I'm going to suggest to Tricia that she break them in before the trip.

Of course, you know how a 13 year old usually reacts to Mom's advice... ;)

Hi  Kathy,

Hey Scrappie! I'd like to wait until the whole ensemble is ready... I'll definitely be posting costume pix before we leave! Again, I think they just feel a bit weird because of the tighter button cuff at the ankle. They are very comfortable, though! :thumbsup2

Sounds like you had a very nice trip. Too bad about the costume, your description of Ed trying it on had me :lmao:

Tricia and Catie are going to look so cute!

Thanks, Nancy! They don't seem to mind at all that they are wearing practically the same thing head to toe! Now, it would be a different story if one of her friends showed up on the first day of school wearing the same outfit!! The horror!!

Thanks for the fingers crossed... it may have done the trick.

I found a pair of "pirate stripey pants" (One size fits most) and ordered them for either Ed or Billy... depending on who it looks best! Also a pirate sash for around the waist. If they look good, I may just get the same in different colors for the other pirate:

Hello and :welcome:

I love when DISers "come out of lurkdom" to say hello! :goodvibes

Yes, it has been busy since we got back... I'm working extra to cover another nurse who's on her vacation this week and we're preparing for a Labor Day Weekend visit from my stepson, Eddie (19). He's already back at college, but since he worked all summer (in North Carolina) he didn't get a chance to visit this summer. :sad1:

Oh well, when they reach that age you just have to take what you can get!

Ok-I'm all caught up with your PTR...:cool1:

I didn't know that "down the shore" was a regional thing...that's what we call it here outside "Philly" too-"down the shore..."I hope you had fun...did you have any Johnson's carmel corn or Kohr's custard or saltwater taffy or were you a good girl and stayed true to your diet-Congrats btw on your weight lose...that's awesome...

I home your costume situation works out -but it sounds like you are pretty well on your well...the description/titles of the preteen/teen pirate girl costumes for Tricia had me howling because it hits close to home-we've looked for costumes for Emily and I have to agree especially now that she's 14-they do/look sound like "adult" fantasy themed clothing for the boudoir-things like Pirate vixen and Sassy Lassy -they should come with appropriate R/NC17 ratings...:lmao:

I'm so glad for you that you got all the ADRs that you wanted-and your plans look great-how nice to have a day to relax after the Halloween party...I hope that Fantasmic works out for you...(those are 2 of the things that Emily wants to do for her 16th "surprise" B-day trip-the Halloween Party and Fantasmic...

I'm going to have to go back and read one of your earlier trip reports that feature Aunt Rae-I haven't "met" her in these reports...but she certainly seems to have made an impression on everyone who has...:goodvibes

BTW-we went on the "new" Hall of Presidents and thought it was well done but then again I was never in there before and DH only remembers it vaguely from his childhood...David was fascinated and we got him the Presidents Fandex but we had to wait till Epcot because they didn't have them in the gift shop-which is kind of weird if you think of it...I thought it was a very stirring show...

Hi Triple P... and welcome back!! :goodvibes

I was a naughty girl and ate a lot of "junk" while I was away... took a little vacation from the diet as well. Unfortunately, I'm having a hard time getting back on the wagon, so perhaps I should try on my harem pants again for an incentive!

I ordered a bodice online many weeks ago and they had originally said it would be backordered to the middle of August. Now they've sent word that it will not be available until the middle of October and I'm a little nervous.

I was really happy with it, but I may cancel the order and plan on ordering something similar. I wouldn't want to find out at the last minute that it isn't going to get to me in time for Halloween.

I'm really not much of a gambler at all!!

I'm also waiting on two "pirate shirts" that I found on sale... pretty much two for the price of one... for Ed and Billy. They should arrive this week.

I will be so happy when everyone's ensemble is in hand!!

Thanks for reading!

understand about not wanting to risk the bodice not arriving in time...could you keep it on order JIC and order something else as back up and then return the other item after the fact...or is a return only by 10-31 thing :confused3

Unless you're holding at least "a pair", using gambler speak, you'd better order another. You can always return one or the other. I'd hate for you to be caught in a lurch without one at all.

I think we're definitely all on the same wavelength as far as the backordered bodice is concerned. Luckily, its not an actual "Halloween" item, so I'm sure that I would have no problem returning /cancelling it if it does not arrive by 10/30.

The only annoyance is that I will now have to shell out more $$ to order something else, but it is definitely true what they say about having the bird in hand. ::yes::

Ditto to everyone else's thoughts on the bodice. I'd be concerned that if its been pushed back once, it could be again and you'd be left scrambling and maybe shelling out even more money to have something in time. Hope the pirate shirts work. Aren't you glad you started your costume searching so early?:goodvibes

Kathy

You are doing a lot better than I am on the costume Department

Pants for DH and a vest, and sash but debating on his shirt. He has a long sleeve shirt to wear but I don't know if that will be too warm in Florida.

Hope you were able to get back on the weight loss wagon:hug:

Don't worry...you can't have fallen off nearly as hard as I did!

I fell off the wagon LAST AUGUST and not only did I fall off but I took the wagon and filled it with Krispy Cremes, Thrasher's Fries, Loaded Baked Potatoes, Blue Cheese Dressing, Grecian Pizza with Extra Feta Cheese and so on.....

So don't feel bad for falling off for a short spurt...I've been off it for a year!

By the way.....I plan on dumping my wagon of junk as soon as we get back:rolleyes1................really;)

Thanks,

Yes, I feel as if I ran out of steam there. The kids are back to school right after Labor Day, so our schedule will be getting back to "normal" (whatever that is!). The weather is supposed to be gorgeous all this week--so wonderfull after the TON of rain we had last week--so I will certainly be able to get in some nice, long power walks.

Good thing, too, because I have to work off the ice cream I had tonight!! :rolleyes1

Very cool website. I can't wait to show Ethan. Lots of inspiration there. I am debating on wearing a simple black skirt that I already have.

I am planning on making mine and Ethan's costume. I have the pattern already. I do want to make myself a white shirt.

Now I need to decide whether to make myself pants or wear the black skirt.
I am not sure if I want to wear a bodice.

Are you wearing a hat? Ron has a Capt. Jack Sparrow Hat to wear! I will probably buy Ethan a hat. He loves to wear them and they are so hard to make.

Then I need to have Ethan design or pick his out. The hardest thing to make would be one of the long coats that Ethan likes.

If you have a minute take a peek at my pre-trippie. I have several updates and they are all really positive:thumbsup2

Nice score at the Dollar Tree!

Two years ago, Billy absolutely refused to wear a costume for Halloween. :confused3 But I wanted him to have something to wear to school that day because of the costume parade. I took a long-sleeved orange tee shirt and used black fabric paint to make the triangle eyes and nose and the jagged smile of a jack-o-lantern. It was festive, but felt like a regular tee shirt to him, so he wore it happily.

Perhaps you could do something similar, but give it a Disney twist?!

Kathy,

I wish you best of luck with the costumes. It will be nice when you have that portion of your trip all settled.

I think I'll take pix of the assembled costumes prior to the trip, but will save the pix of everyone wearing their costumes until the actual party day.

I know what you mean about trying to stay on "the straight and narrow"... if only I didn't love food so much! *sigh*

I love that bodice -I hope it makes it in time!

I do to! (But I've got a back-up just in case!)

How are you doing with your party-wear plans?

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

The boys' pirate shirts arrived! They fit! :cool1: Ed raised an eybrow because the sleeves are rather "billowy" but I pointed out the absence of ruffles and lace... so many of the men's pirate costumes have ruffled sleeves... so it could've been worse!! He's sucking it up for the sake of historical accuracy!! :rotfl:

Billy's striped pants... the "one size fits all"... are HUGE on him! They will have to be hemmed, but with the black sash around his waist, they should be fine. He most likely will not want to wear anything on his head... its a sensory thing... but that's okay.

I ordered a pirate lass hat for Tricia... it's trimmed with lace and little red bows, so I think she'll love it! Catie is going with the red and black striped bandana around her head... I think.

So... Tricia is completely set.

Billy is set except for boot covers to put over his shoes. Those will be easy to pick up now that Halloween merchandise is beginning to appear in all the stores.

Ed is all set except for his sash... he will wear red so he and Billy don't look too much alike. (Billy's wearing striped pants and Ed is wearing solid black pants.)

I've got my black harem pants and a black lacy blouse... I just need the bodice to pull it together. I will probably just wear black flats as boots or boot covers would spoil the look of the harem pants. Still not sure what I'm going to wear on my head... and I want to put my hair up, but Billy hates when I do that (makes Mommy look "different"), so I may just forego style to keep my special boy happy.

Eddie is up for the long weekend, so I may not be DISing too much... then we jump right into Back to School. I have not been able to keep up with everyone's reports regularly, but I hope to get back to more DIS-time in a couple of weeks.

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday weekend!!!

Looks like the costuming is falling into place. I remember the hassle from last year, ours was a surprise trip for the kids though so I was trying to pull it all together without them finding out and we went before Columbus Day so it was early in the month!

Just thinking about Billy's pants, if you don't want the hassle of hemming them you could always just cut them with a jagged edge to make them look ripped. Tricia's had sounds cute!

The first MNSSHP are starting, it will be fun to hear how they're going this year!

and Mae is start to getting wishy-washy w/ her previous decision so we'll see and I'm thinking of dressing Margaret up as either Jo-Jo or Aurora depending which outfit fits best.

Yes, as soon as school starts it seems that all kids' thoughts turn to Halloween! http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Smilies/shocked-1.gif

A WACC nurse has got to be the most original costume idea I have ever heard of! And I can just picture Michael as a Mad Scientist!

Hey Kathy...

Your Halloween costumes sound great! I think you are all going to look fantastic!!!!!! I can't wait to see pictures! Hope you have a nice weekend!

Thanks! You too!

BTW, did you get my PM reply to you? Also, I started my PTR this morning...you inspired me! Hope you'll come by and visit! The link's in my siggie (not sure how to put the title as the link, though ;))

Oooh, Hooray! I'll be right over! :goodvibes

The party would be lots of fun, but not probably not worth causing friction with hubby. Pick your battles, that's what I say!!

Won't you be glad when you can check Halloween costumes off the "To Do" List?

Kathy, I've opened your thread about a baziglion times to post this, but when I was at the World of Disney in DTD, I picked up this thingy for my lanyard http://www.laughingplacestore.com/Product-6858.asp. It was about 6 dollars, and has a water bottle holder. I also wonder if you could hang a social story from the clippie thingie.

 What a great idea, Hedy!

I don't think Billy would tolerate a lanyard around his neck... its a sensory thing... but I wear one of these and keep my park pass in the plastic card holder. It would be a perfect place to stash a social story for quick access!!

I can't wait to read about your Universal trip! Hopefully, I will have more time to DIS on my days off now that school is starting!

I'm all caught up and it sounds like you have made fabulous progress on the costume front! I know what you mean about things getting back to normal with school starting, I will be glad when we get into our routine here, it still feels a bit off!

We had 3 days of school and then the holiday weekend, complete with DS9's bday so I'm all confused right now :)

Usually we start after labor day so it's just plan weird right now. This week will hopefully feel normal.

I'll keep my fingers crossed on the bodice but am glad you figured out a back up plan.

Hi Mary! Yes, there's a lot more chatter on this year's PTR for some reason... I promise to post links once the actual TR posts get going!

It still irks me when I see that November 1st MNSSHP date :headache: It sure would be less crowded than the Oct. 31st party. Oh well, the kids are psyched about being in the MK on Halloween night, so I'll just deal...

Glad to hear your costumes are coming together! When we were on the monorail the other day (I love being able to say that!) it was the first MNSSHP and 3 pirates got onto the monorail-I instantly thought of you and your pirate crew! Their costumes were fairly basic, but the Mom and daughter each had one giant gold hoop earring which I thought was kinda a cool touch!

Hello again!

Well, applications for the Mom's Panel are going to be accepted until 9/20 (or 20,000 apps, whichever comes first!), and so we'll most likely hear by the 2nd week in October. I'm really hoping that I make it!

This is only "Round One." There are more essays and telephone interviews in store for those lucky moms who make it to "Round Two!"

Thanks again for all the pixie-dust and especially the kind words of encouragement; they really helped ease some of my jitters! There is some debate as to whether there will be 16 slots like this year or if the number of panelists has been reduced to 10... but either way, 20,000 applications means a lot of competition!

***************************************

I received an e-mail confirmation that the "back-up" corset has been shipped. If it fits, I'm just going to cancel choice #1. Hopefully I'll have it in hand within a few days...

Other than assembling MNSSHP costumes, I haven't been doing much at all trip-wise. I've been trying to get our dinner ADR for 50's Prime Time Cafe moved to a later time slot... right now we're eating at a very early 3:50pm. I wanted an early ressie because Fantasmic is currently listed as being shown at 6:30pm, but 3:50?? Oh well, no luck so far but I'll keep trying...

Perhaps this weekend would be a good time to start the Disney Box. I need to do a little school-related shopping anyway, might as well start picking up a few things for our trip! ::yes::

I was grocery shopping the other day and picked up a Farmer's Almanac while waiting in the check-out line. I flipped to the first week of November and found the prediction is for sunny weather all week with high temps in the mid-70's!! :sunny:

Ahhh, I do hope that comes true! That would be perfect weather for Disney!!

I feel the same way. We're not quite at crunch time where I need to buy stuff, pack, etc. but we aren't far enough out that there is anything like dining ADRs, itinerary planning, etc. either. It's Disney planning limbo!!!

That would be perfect weather. I didn't think it was supposed to be so cool for October/early November---but that would be awesome. For our trip in December I was hoping for low to mid 70s, but at this rate it may just be in the 50s. That'd be no good, no good at all! :rolleyes1

You're absolutely right!

I'm hoping once I'm settled into the new school schedule (this was the first week back), I'll feel more like getting things together for our trip.

Oh, I forgot! I did start making out a shopping list for Garden Grocer... does that count??

Since we're arriving at Kidani close to midnight, I think I'm just going to have them deliver the next morning. I'd rather go right to bed and take care of it the next day! :thumbsup2

... it's my first-ever laptop!!! No more :surfweb: for me!!

A couple of months ago we switched our phone and internet to Verizon because 1) we wanted faster internet service and 2) they were offering a special price for their "triple play"... basically, we have phone, wireless, and internet service for the price of only two of these.

So, it's like getting our monthly internet for free! :thumbsup2

We also had a choice of a special gift... either a camcorder or a notebook computer.

Well, Ed has been trying to convince me to get my own laptop for the past year or so. We gave one to Tricia for her birthday this year, but I could rationalize that because of all the stuff she needs to do online for school. Ed already had his own, but I just couldn't bring myself to justify the expense for another one for me.

"I'll just share the desktop with Billy," was my mantra. And it worked out fine... for a while!

This past year Billy has really been more and more interested in playing on the computer. Not only does he play games, but he likes to surf Amazon.com (just to look at DVD titles), as well as other sites where he can view clips from DVDs and upcoming movies. He really enjoys it!

So, needless to say, he was home for the entire month of August and I really had to "compete" with him for the computer... and since I am a marshmallow, I would usually let him have it!

Well, it took forever to get here, but now I have my own (free) notebook that I can use for DISing!! Ed is setting it up for me right now!!

Oooh... perhaps I can do some live TR posts this year!! :yay: :woohoo: :cool1:

DH & I were glued to the computer and watching the link and then found a plans rendering showing where everything will go and gettting a feel for how it fit's in...(even ran downstairs and grabbed an MK map ;))

very exciting in deed and about time for a Be Our Guest restaurant! :thumbsup2

J-

Doesn't that restaurant look gorgeous? :cloud9:

OMG! Thanks so much for the links! I had read about that Fantasyland expansion a while ago but figured it wasn't real. Hmm, now the hard part. I had kind of thought we might do DLR in 2012 because that's when all the DCA changes are to be completed but now with this announcement will have to think about that.

DS9 is also very excited about the changes to ST!

Looks like some exciting times for WDW and DLR in the next few years.

Hey Kathy,

Thanks for the links on all those upcoming changes...Fabulous...(seriously upping the ante on DVC for us...:goodvibes)...

Congrats on the Notepad-you will continue to love it even more as realize all the places you can take it...you never have to be without cyber access again...which can be both dangerous and fabulous...at the same time...:lmao:

Thanks also for the info on the Cake Challenge at Disneyland-I enjoyed it very much...man that female English judge is a tough cookie...she could give Simon on AI a run for his money...:confused3

I watched those vidoes about a dozen times each!
Looks like they're trying to give equal time to both coasts.

The great thing about DVC is that you always feel there's another trip just over the horizon. :cloud9:

Tricia and I enjoyed the Cake Challenge, too, although Tricia was outraged when it seemed that only the winning family got to eat their cake! And you're right, that judge is no Mary Poppins!!

Nah, that's FDM! ;) Whatever works, right?!

Hey Janet! Glad to hear you're recovering. If you're not up to a full TR; how about just some pictures with captions? I'd love to see how Jimmy liked Universal...

Thanks for reading, everyone!

Wow, Kathy!! That was an amazing link with some very good news!! I was really excited to hear this! I guess I'm a bit behind in the gossip gathering cuz it's the first I'd heard of it. nevertheless, I can't wait to see the finished product!!

Now it makes perfect sense that they are releasing an updated, revised version of the Imagineers Field Guide to MK.

Nice!

I am planning on doing a little something like that once the eyes are completely good. Just know that I was not with them. Jim did NOT take alot of pictures

I will tell you that Jimmy absolutely LOVED, LOVED, LOVED Universal and is already talking about going back. We aren't planning on going back at all for at least 2 years :faint:, but I wouldn't go near Universal next year with the Harry Potter thing opening anyway!

Probably a good idea!

I'm glad you're going to do a mini-report... I'm the photographer in our house, too, so I understand completely about not getting too many pix from "the menfolk." Ah well, as long as Jimmy had a ball, that's what counts! :goodvibes (Stupid germs!)

Well, folks, its 46 days 'til our vacation and now that summer is over and the kiddos are back to school, I'm hoping to have more regular DIS time! :thumbsup2 When I mentioned the "46 days" to Tricia this morning she was quite surprised. She announced that she will now officially begin to get excited about our trip! (I'm starting to get a bit more excited, myself!)

In keeping with my teenage daughter's declaration that it is now acceptable to get excited about our trip, I've decided to go back in time and pull some old Disney photos to share... I'll try to post a new one each day if I can.

This first one, appropriately, is from our very first trip to the World in September of 2003. Gosh, don't they look so little!! Sorry for the quality, it was scanned...

Billy was five and Tricia was seven. I remember laughing when I took this because Billy automatically sat on Roy's lap and put his arm around his neck like it was his Grandpa!

What a thrill to see the Castle for the first time!!

After this picture, Tricia and I held hands and skipped up Main Street (yes, you read that correctly... I skipped) and we sang, "I'm walkin' right down the middle of Main Street, U-S-A-Aay-Aay!" as we went!! :cloud9:

I'm glad that picture gave me a smile, because I had to call for an emergency dentist appointment for myself earlier today and I am NOT happy. :headache: I was eating (soft) cereal this morning and one of my back teeth broke in half! Just like that! There was no premonition... no discomfort or any indication that anything was wrong... so its a complete surprise (and annoyance) to me.

What a pain it is to have an unexpected expense right before our vacation! (Our dental coverage is only 50%) There are so many better things I could be spending money on right now!

I'm off today so I planned on running errands anyway, but still. Errrrgh!

Oh well, at least it didn't happen the day of our departure. Or worse, while actually on vacation! (Must think positive thoughts!!)

Thanks for reading,

Kathy

Thanks for the Youtube link...AWESOME!! I SO wish I had a little girl to take to see the princesses!

Sorry about the tooth...ugh! I hate the dentist anytime, but especially when you are about to head out on vacation. You need every penny!

Tricia is right...Why should the families who's chef/baker lost have to sit by and not get any cake:headache:..and even if the other cakes didn't win-I'm sure they tasted really good...what a waste-I hope they gave those other families something...:confused3...

I empathize with your tooth story...::yes::-I'm so sorry-I hope you have no discomfort-other than to your pocketbook...sigh...I know what you mean about the unexpected expense...I have an appt today with a periodontist-about a crown...I know that I'm going to get hit for that...$$$

Bill is too cute all cuddled up with Roy...Well after Walt's death-Roy really was the steward for his vision...so Billy knows who to thank for continuing so much of the magic...:goodvibes
