Ooohhh, I love New Orleans food! :cloud9:

When Ed and I went there in '95, I thought I wouldn't be able to eat anything because it would all be way too spicy... boy was I wrong! The food was amazing... even the jambalaya we got at the zoo was fantastic!

Kathy

Me too! Charles and I went there in 2004, and the food was just amazing! We loved everything we ate!

What...no dog at the China booth.;) Probably pretty smart.

Those menus sound awesome. I'm glad I'm not going to be there..I'm starting to try cutting out fatty foods...and some of the selections sound sooo good, but soo bad.

New Orleans, Louisiana: Praline Bread Pudding, Bourbon Caramel Sauce

Shanghai, China: Chicken Ürümqi, Shrimp or Beef Rice Pancake, Pork Pot Stickers, Caramel Ginger Ice Cream *Please Note the prominent absence of scorpion and dog* ;)

The Praline Bread Pudding last year was YUMMY!!! We weren't feeling the best that day, but I managed to shove this one down without a problem. ;)

I laughed out loud at the "no scorpion or dog" comment! :lmao:

I am very happy to hear the raves on the New Orleans food! I'm looking forward to trying it all on our trip in January!!! :yay:

I think that I will starve myself the week before Disney so I can splurge when I get there. (Better yet, I should wake my butt up early and go to the Fitness Center every morning!)

It's wonderful, but World Showcase gets so crowded! My plan for this year is to leave Future World so we can get over to WS when it opens at 11:00... hopefully we can avoid the "dinner crowds!"

Hi Kathy! I have to say, I'm hooked on your PTR...Halloween in WDW sounds like it's going to be so much fun :]
If you don't mind me asking, would you read my TR? I just started it today, but I took the trip in September 2007. I know, I'm just a little bit late:rotfl:

Updated ADR Request List:

Just one week from today, I will finally be making my ADRs! :goodvibes I will take a leap of faith and try the online ressie system... I wasn't going to at first, but so many of you have remarked that you had good experiences, so I have decided to try it!

Of course, you've all heard my complaints about the planning difficulties that face those of us travelling during the first week of the month! My ADR window opens Saturday at 6:00 AM, but park hours and entertainment schedules will not be released (at best) until later that day. Ugh!

Oh well, I'm going to do the best I can with the information I've got. It's not like I can't go back and make changes... there's just the risk of not being able to get what I want. The only one that's giving me cause for concern is our dinner at Le Cellier... but we've got two Epcot evenings planned, so that does give me a bit of wiggle room.

With the DDP we get eight TS meals.

Here is our current ADR list:

Breakfasts:

~ Boma

~ Play and Dine at Hollywood & Vine (could also take early lunch if needed)

~ Crystal Palace (Pre-park opening)

Dinners:

~ Le Cellier

~ Biergarten

~ 'Ohana

~ Chef Mickey's

~ 50's Prime Time Cafe

The two "new to us" restaurants will be Le Cellier and Biergarten! (Ed reviewed the menu from the Brown Derby and declared that it would probably be a better choice for dinner "just the two of us.")

I'll have to hold him to that someday!! ;)

Those dining choices look GREAT!! Would love all of them myself.

I've read that some people book their ADRs in order of difficulty rather than in chronological order. You may want to try that, book LeCellier first follwed by Ohana and then Chef Mickey's then CP breakfast, etc. I think for the harder to get ones it's always good to have a second choice on day/time.

Good luck! I'll be interested to hear how the online works for you.

Hey Kathy! Your ADR wish list looks great! The good thing about the online system is, you can call at 6:00am to make your ADRs and if you decide it's not working for you or you just don't like it---go ahead and call up Disney at 7:00am to talk to a rep. You really can't go wrong!

Some words of advice for the online ADRs are:

1. Don't forget to pull up your reservation no. when you are going to make your ADRs. This should allow you to book your 90+10 rather than just 90.

2. I had read somewhere that if you don't "check-out" within a certain amount of time, your ADRs will go back into the pool for someone else to snatch up. Basically it's like online shopping. You had to add the ressie to your cart and then once you have what you like, you do a check-out to finalize them and get confirmation numbers. If you are having a slow-going time or are playing with ADR times and feel like you want to get the harder ones (Le Cellier & CP) checked out and done with----add those two to your cart first, check out and then go back and finish the rest. :thumbsup2

Good luck! We'll be keeping our fingers crossed for ya!

I am leary of the online ADR system too, but I am going to try it.

Your list looks great, Bill and I are currently going over our list to see what are "must do's" and what can be done by just us. We a couple of the same restaurants :rotfl:.

Okay... so I'm not feeling so good about the online dining reservations right now! :worried:

I just visited the website to browse around and check it out a bit and was unpleasantly surprised to discover that they could not bring up our resort reservation! I'm not worried that we don't have a resort ressie... I made it through DVC Member Services... but I wasn't too happy that I couldn't retrieve the ressie.

I think I will call DVC Member Services tomorrow to ask for advice. I may just have to do this by phone after all! :headache:

My thoughts are...

If you were signing onto the Disney Dining page to retrieve your resort reservation, it's possible that it didn't recognize it because your 90 days haven't come yet. I went to Dining, picked a restaurant and typed in our December reservation number and it didn't work for me either. If you want to poke around, you can still do it using your ressie number and then on the 90 day mark, plug it in to get your 90+10.

I'd call Member Services to confirm that that's the reason, but c'mon Kathy---you've got to give it a shot!! Here's my thought, you aren't missing out on anything by logging in at 6:00am to try, if anything you are missing out if you wait until 7:00am to call in without trying online first----because all of those people using the online system get a whole hour of dibs on your wonderful ADRs :rotfl:

We are excited too, we were just trying to find a way for the kids to see Wishes in front of the Castle before they saw it on the Poly beach so we are going to add a day to the tickets. Hopefully we can get some sleep on the plane and take a nap after we get there so we can go to Magic Kingdom the first night to see Wishes and maybe Spectro if they are running it. All contingent on the kids taking naps :thumbsup2.

Oh that's right, I forgot it was your first day... yikes!

Sorry the Poly Beach isn't wheelchair accessible. :sad1:

(*For those of you following along, I called the Poly today to see if the beach is wheelchair accessible and a cast member ran outside and all the way down to the beach just to find out!! Wasn't that awesome?!)

I told Ed that if Spectro is running that night that we must go back to the MK to see it because it will be our only MK night other than the MNSSHP... and I need my Spectro fix!!! :rotfl:

Wishes will most likely run at either 8:00 or 9:00 (remember that Daylight Savings is the weekend before, so it will be dark at 8:00.) Last year, because of the end-of-the-week-Jersey-crowds, they had one Spectro at 8:00, Wishes at 9:00, then a second Spectro at 10:00.

I think that we should shoot for an very early dinner... say, 5:00-5:15 ... so we have plenty of time for a relaxed meal and then sufficient time to get to Main Street by 7:00-7:30. We've never seen Wishes from Main Street, so that will be a new experience!

*Another advantage to an early dinner time is that we won't have to wait around too long to get seated... the kids will be antsy enough, I think!

What say you?

Kathy

You have NEVER seen Wishes from Main Street? Where do you watch it from? Oh would that be over stimulation for Billy? I don't want to have him be upset or anything. Where do you get his earplugs too?

I think an early dinner would be great, that would mean our first day the 4th, can be at DTD where Josh can get his Planet Hollywood fix, Bill can try Characters in Flight if it isn't too windy, and we can get back to the room at a decent hour to rest. Then Magic Kingdom on our first full day :banana:.

Oh, DUH! I'm mixed up! Were probably going to Animal Kingdom that day, but would leave right after the parade to go to 'Ohana. We're getting park hoppers, though, so going from there to the MK for Wishes will be no problemo.

We've seen Wishes from TomorrowLand, FantasyLand, and Liberty Square and they all have their own advantages. Billy will be fine, he's doing so much better with fireworks these past few years!

The earplugs he uses are the blue squishy kind that you get at sporting goods stores... I think people wear them when shooting. They're more comfortable than the hard plastic ones. :thumbsup2 (I use them myself on Dinosaur! Boy, that ride is LOUD!)

Kathy

ETA: Ed just told me he got them at Walgreen's in the ear and eye drop aisle...

I totally agree. You pretty much have to use online now. I mean I had a tough time getting an ADR for lunch at The Plaza! That was a 6:10am after I failed getting the Tusker House I wanted at 6am. And now that free dinning is being offered while you are there plus Jersey week. UGH.

My thoughts are that you will have an easier time getting ADR's the further out in your vacation that you go because of the 90 day +10 days rule. Because all the other guests that are arriving in the days prior to you have access to the beginning of your vacation week before you do. Does that make sense? Here's what happend to me. I arrive on a Wednesday, I tried for Tusker House on Friday...Nothing.....Nada.....Zip. But I got it for Sunday.

It's fun to mix new experiences with old favorites... that way, no one gets bored! (Connor and Chelsa would love 50's PTC; its a lot of fun to do the schtick with your server!)

And how can you not love looking at your dessert menu on a View Master??

Have you decided which days to go to which parks? Or do you have Park Hoppers? I really want to get the Fantasmic Dinner Package and I don't know what day we will go to DHS (we don't have hoppers)

Hi Nancy!!

http://disneyworld.disney.go.com/restaurants/

Click on your restaurant of choice, then click on "make reservation!"

I'm still playing with Which Parks/Which Days... but I need to make some kind of gameplan to make those ADRs. If I decide to change my itinerary, it will mean changing ADRs and that's always a gamble.

We're getting the park hoppers because we like to have the freedome to make last-minute touring decisions, say, if we're at a park and it's super-crowded, we can hop to another one! :thumbsup2

I don't know if you're familiar with Steve Soars website, but it is very helpful as your trip approaches because he has up-to-date info on all the park entertainment. I find it easier to read than the official website...

http://pages.prodigy.net/stevesoares/index.htm

Currently, Fantasmic is shown on Sun, Tues, and Thurs (although that might change, of course.)

Here is more info on the Fantasmic Dining Package:

It is hard to wait... but at least I feel like the real itinerary planning can begin very soon!! ::yes:: Then the time will go by much faster, I think!

Kathy

Do you promise that the time will go by faster? Huh do ya? :rotfl: I need to be in WDW NOW!!!

Thank you! Those links are helpful! For the last week of October they are showing Fantasmic! on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
I wonder if it will be the same schedule the next week? Will I be able to book a Fantasmic Dinner Package before the park schedules are released? Or do you think they will release the November schedules on August 1?

I think we are going to have to try for Tuesday, Nov. 3 to see Fantasmic!:smickey: Can you tell the anticipation is killing me!:rotfl:

I feel like I'm at a meeting of Over-Anticipator's Anonymous!

Nancy, meet Tracy. Tracy, this is Nancy. :rotfl:

Judging from recent history, I do not expect park hours before August 1st. I think you can book your Fantasmic dinner package as soon as you hit your 90 day mark.

I'm really not stressing too much because we can all jump through hoops planning our itineraries and ADRs and Disney can just go ahead and change things at the last minute, anyway! So.....

Just think "Hakuna Matata" and take your best shot at scheduling.

It's Walt Disney World.... it's all good!!! :cloud9:

Can't wait to hear more plans! The waiting is awful, isn't it? :headache:

Hi Sara!

Can't do free dining because our ressie is DVC with points! Boo!

But I am sorely tempted to slip in a mom & dad only weekend, though! I had been thinking about late January, but perhaps December might be better....

Such a hard time to scrounge extra $$ right before Christmas, though! :santa: Drat!

Hi Kathy,

I headed over to your PTR to see what day you were going to be able to make your ADR's (since we're arriving on the same day, and I was too lazy to figure it out myself).

Well I called this morning to add free dining (woot!) and I asked the CM I spoke with about what day I would be able to. She told me the easiest way to do it would be to go to the online system and count that way.

I did that and today (7/27) Oct 25 opened up. So if my math is correct, Oct 30 will open up on Aug 1 (Saturday). From what I'm seeing, you said you could make your ADR's on Sunday.

Do you know which one is 100% right? I didn't realize I needed a Masters degree to make dinner reservations!! Ha! I just want to make sure we get it right since, from what I hear, now that free dining is offered a lot will book up quickly!

Thanks for your help!

I promised an update on my call to DVC Member Services this morning, so here it is!

Admittedly, since I'm a "seasoned" WDW guest, I typically do not frequent the official website. I find that I get updated info either here or on AllEars. I do sometimes utilize the branch of the official website for DVC members, though. On-line dining ressies are made from the "main" website, so I last night I decided to do a little research over there.

I was able to log in and bring up the "My Disney Vacation" page. But when I entered our (DVC) resort ressie, the system was unable to retrieve it on more that one attempt. Hmmm, I thought. How am I going to make on-line ressies this weekend if the system can't access my ressie confirmation?

Again, not to beat a dead horse, but this was not on the dining reservations page, just the main "My Vacation" page, so the 90-day window should not have had anything to do with it.

So, I called DVC MS and a helpful CM worked with me to troubleshoot. I'm registered on wdw.com (from past shopping on line) and I'm registered on mydvc.com, so the ressie should be linked to both branches of the website. The CM assured me that the problem with DVC ressies not being recognized by the dining reservaton system had been corrected, so we were both at a loss. He told me he would submit a help ticket to the website department so they could investigate it further. :magnify:

I did note a slight discrepancy in that my user name for each site was different, even though all other info (including my birthday) was correct.

That little discrepancy may be the cause of the glitch, so all you other DVC members... have no fear! Looks like this is just an individual problem rather than a system-wide issue.

I could tell that the CM on the other end of the phone really "got it" because when I told him that I could always make my dining ressies via phone, he protested, "But on-line, you get to make them a whole hour before the phone people do!!" :rotfl:

I wonder if he's a DIS-er?? :goodvibes

Sorry the Poly Beach isn't wheelchair accessible. :sad1:

(*For those of you following along, I called the Poly today to see if the beach is wheelchair accessible and a cast member ran outside and all the way down to the beach just to find out!! Wasn't that awesome?!)

is there really no ramp to get you down there? maybe i'm not following what exactly is "wheelchair accessible" but we watched Wishes at the Poly during our 08 stay and I really think I remember pushing Margaret from the GCH to the beach in her stroller? :confused3

*Another advantage to an early dinner time is that we won't have to wait around too long to get seated... the kids will be antsy enough, I think!

What say you?

I agree completely, always try to get the first seating time or the "off" dining times, hopeful less people, less wait and less noise :thumbsup2

I don't think that Bill's heavy power chair can negotiate the sand.... but as it turns out (happily) it works out better for the entire group to go back to the MK after dinner for Wishes.

I am THRILLED about the free dining! We actually "downgraded" from CBR to POP a few weeks ago just to save some $$ - weddings are expensive! Well we never really warmed up to the idea of POP. So this morning I called and upgraded back to CBR and we now have a $60 credit!

Well, remember that I told you the DVC Member Services CM told me that I had no worries about making all my ADRs at my 90 day window... even though I have 2 linked resort reservations?? (The first night cash and the rest points?)

Remember that??

I just received this e-mail reply....

Hello Kathleen,

Thank you for contacting Member Services.
Since you are not in the 90 day window yet
the system will give you that message that it cannot
be accessed. When you have a linked reservation the system
will not recognize the link therefore you would have to try the next
day to book the rest of your dining reservations.

Sincerely,

Now, you know I love Disney and Disney Cast Members, but I have to admit that it is very confusing when you are told different things by different CMs. The CM from this morning assured me that I could make all my ressies on August 1st, yet this CM is telling me that I have to log in on two separate days!

This reminds me of the runaround I got when trying to determine if there was a MNSSHP scheduled for November 1st! Some CMs said yes, others said no.

It is a tad frustrating, let me tell you.

I was hoping to use the on-line system, but I may just have to call in my ressies instead.

For now, I have to go with planning for the worst possible scenerio... that if I leave my resort ressie "as is" I will not be able to make ADRs for the entire week at one time. :headache: So, tomorrow morning I will be on the phone again. (They are closed now... hours are 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM.)

I do not want to find out at the last minute that I have two ADR windows and that I'll be losing an entire day....

My solution?? Switch around my ressie so that Fri-Thurs is on points and the last night is the cash night. I don't want any ADRs for that last day, anyway, so who cares?? This way I don't have to deal with the linked reservation nuisance.

Again, sorry if I seem frustrated, but the mis-information being disseminated by Member Services is really annoying....

Ah, the dreaded split stay---didn't know you were doing one of those!

I have read a lot of mixed reports about people on the Restaurant board regarding making their ADRs for a split-stay online. Here is what I have heard people have been able/had to do if they were doing a split-stay (whether on DVC or not):

1. Some were able to make ressies for their whole trip (90+10) online, even though they were told they couldn't;

2. Some were unable to make ressies for their whole trip and had to call back at the 90 day mark for their second resort reservation;

3. Some people have called and been able to make split-stay dining ressies for their whole trip, depending on the CM that answers the phone; OR

4. Some people have called and been told that the CM couldn't do ressies for a split-stay because their system wouldn't allow it and either had to call back and get another CM, or call back on their 90 day mark for their second resort reservation.

It seems like all of this is fairly arbitrary. I still don't see what the downside to signing online and at least trying to make your ressies online would be (other than having to wake up at 6:00am instead of 7:00am) but it seems like even if you call at 7:00am, making split-stay dining reservations may still present a problem when speaking to a CM. :confused3

I have been worried about the same issue for our December trip. We have one night at POP and then 5 at BWV on DVC points and I'm just a little nervous that I'll have to log-on on two separate mornings to book ADRs twice, but who knows---I may sign onto the site and type in my first resort confirmation number and it'll pull up 90+10 for my whole trip.

My best advice is....breathe. :goodvibes It'll all work out in the end and I'm sure you will get what you want, even if the times aren't exact. And I'm still sticking by my recommendation to at least give the online dining ressies a shot. Like both me AND the CM said, if you don't---it'll give everyone else a whole hour jump on you!! :thumbsup2

That's what's disturbing about getting stuck with two ADR windows... everyone else will get a whole day on me!!

The horror!!

Ed just listens to me and shakes his head... he still doesn't understand the difference in wait time for a 5:30 PM ressie vs a 6:45 PM ressie, and how that can affect your entire night!

Kathy - I totally understand your frustration, that's how I felt yesterday. I called about getting the free dining for a value, but upgrading to the basic dining and paying the difference. The CM I talked to said I couldn't do that. So I was reading your trip report and saw the code for it - called this morning and was able to book it. It would have been much nicer to have booked it the first time I called and not had to make another long distance call :rolleyes1

I think switching your ressie sounds like the easiest solution.

irish dancer
07-27-2009, 11:04 PM
Oh Kathy what a MESS! One thing to consider about switching your ressie around, will it change the number of points needed? If it means you have to cancel and rebook that too might make for a problem if the ressie might be lost to you. Personally I don't have a lot of faith in Disney IT, they seem to have more problems/issues than most.

A word of encouragement, for our June trip we had the first 2nts at ASMu (booked through hotels.com), then 3nts AKV and 3nts THV. We didn't have any hard to get ADRs so I just waited for MS to open at my 90 days for the ASMu ressie. This was during the transition to the "new" dining system and my MS rep was able to find all my ressies and book my dining for me no problem.

I HIGHLY recommend you give the online system a try, I've read many reports of people having sucess booking with split ressies even after being told they would not be able to. I agree with others, you have nothing to lose.

What a complete mess! Sadly, it doesn't surprise me a bit. Disney's websites and technology is poor at best when it comes to reservations! I hope the switcheroo works for you.

sorry about the :confused3 w/ your ressie and ADR situation...it just shouldn't be this difficult.

Hope you can make some sensible soulution and adjust it all out. If the moving cash ressie to the end can work they may be your best bet, totherwise just keep those fingers crossed and breathe like annnewjerz said and just take 1 day at a time. I'd still go for the online for your 1st two days and then maybe go online when the next window opens, if having trouble w/ LC then have the phone ready for speed dial an hour later. Wouldn't hurt to try at 6 am vs calling at 7 am.

I'd use the phone as your back up plan.

Another question (this is so new to me because we always book our trips really close to the travel date and so the 180 days didn't apply to us before. What about those who aren't staying on property. When can they book ADR's? Do you have to stay at a Disney resort to use the online booking system?

Okay I am rather confused. I understand there are two reservations. But wouldn't the 90 + 10 policy cover the whole trip? :confused3:confused3

OK...glad I'm not the only person who was confused by this. Unless you are going for more than 10 days, your 1st ressie # should unlock all the dates of your trip

I'll answer this...no you don't have to be staying on property to use the online system. But you will only be able to book at 90 days. So basically, if you are going for 7 days...each morning for 7 days you'll have to get up at 6am and be on the computer because you'll only be able to book for 90 days FROM that day. Although this holds true for the phone system as well. If you aren't too picky about restaurants/times you could wait until 90 days from the LAST day of your trip and book them all at once.

I do too, but that can be a source of problems in it's own right. I may just change my mind about that!

I just don't understand why all the CMs can't follow the same "rule book!" :confused3 It's so confusing when different people tell you different things!

Oh, I certainly plan on trying.

Switching the ressie around would not change the amount of points needed... I'd be exchanging one Friday night for another.

Hmmm, I hadn't considered the possibility of losing my ressie while in the process of changing it! :scared:

What a complete mess! Sadly, it doesn't surprise me a bit. Disney's websites and technology is poor at best when it comes to reservations! I hope the switcheroo works for you.

I have FOUR linked reservations (due to waitlists) for our December trip. That should be "fun". :headache: :sad2:

Yikes! Better check and double-check everything, Brook!

I was perfectly comfortable until I got that stupid e-mail from Member Services... I've yet to get a response to my reply.

Ugh, I feel like stomping my foot and yelling, "It's not fair!" Why should someone with a split stay be penalized ADR wise?:confused3 It's nuts.

I too hope your email ends up reaching the right "ears", but I'd probably be ready with Plan B on ADR morning.

Thanks... I don't understand why I can't just do "90 = 10" from the one ressie.... Plans "A" and "B" coming up...

yes Kathy I do have it bad :rotfl2:

sorry about the :confused3 w/ your ressie and ADR situation...it just shouldn't be this difficult.

I'd use the phone as your back up plan.

we'll be holding your hand thru Disney-cyber-space :grouphug:

glad you still hava a few days to figure something out and yes the non Disney planner doesn't quite get it always ;)

Scrappie (J-)

Thanks for the cyber-support!! :grouphug:

Tnkrbelle565 is answering this, below...

Of course I will keep you posted! Thankfully I'm calling on a Saturday, so I'll have time to DIS that morning! :thumbsup2

I'm confused as to why I can't make the entire week's worth of ressies with the first confirmation number. The CM from Member Services must be talking about the on-line system only....

OK...glad I'm not the only person who was confused by this. Unless you are going for more than 10 days, your 1st ressie # should unlock all the dates of your trip

That's what I thought, too!! Maybe on the phone system, just not on-line!

Gosh, you all bring up such good points! Really! Why should I have to go on line a second time one day later for the second part of the vacation when the ressies are linked?? I'm getting penalized because Disney software isn't savvy enough!!

Okay.... I'm thinking that it may not be so wise to jump the gun and switch my ressie around. I'm going to leave everything as is. Here is my plan:

1. Go onto the Disney website just before 6:00 AM August 1st and give the on-line system a try. If that doesn't work because of the "linked ressie" snafu...

2. I'll simply call Disney Dining at 7:00 AM and do it the "old-fashioned" way! The first night ressie gives me a ten day window, so I'm sure it won't be a problem if I have a live CM clicking away.

The only ressies I'm really concerned about not getting are our dinner at Le Cellier and the pre-park opening breakfast at Crystal Palace. But you know, if for some reason we can't get them, it's not like it's going to ruin our vacation or anything.... so I'm definitely doing my best not to get anxious.

Oh, BTW, I did call Disney Dining to ask a question about making a reservation for a large group and thought I would share the info...

I'll be making a ressie for eleven when we meet up with mrsksomeday and family and there was a question as to whether this would need a "grand gathering" phone call. I was informed that I don't need a separate call, that Disney Dining would take this ADR just as they would any other.

I'm pleased, but with all this contradicting information floating around about everything else, I'm not so sure if I believe it or not!! :rotfl:

Oh, my goodness, you just have to laugh!

I like your Plan! Here's some pixie dust to help pull it all off~ I hope you get all the ADR's you are dreaming and wishing of!

pixiedust:pixiedust:pixiedust::tinker::tinker::tin ker:

Worst case scenario we have been able to get an ADR at LeCellier after we have arrived. You can check at the resort or call Disney Dining. I think there are usually a cancellations you can pick up if you are a little flexible. But LeCellier during food and wine may be a tough bet.

********************************************

So, I was thinking that I really should have a "backup" ADR in case Le Cellier is not available. (Although one of you pm'd me a little trick that may help avoid that.... thanks, Heidi!!) ;)

The problem is Billy.

Now, I really don't mind that we won't be getting "our money's worth" on Billy's dining credits because he'll probably stick to just hot dogs, chicken nuggets and pizza all week. That doesn't bother me in the least... I'm just happy he's eating more than macaroni and bologna, which were the mainstays of his very rigid dinner preferences for the past few years!

The problem is that many of the table service restaurants that I might want to try don't offer anything he would eat. (And I really don't want to make a scene with him crying and Ed getting all red in the face and trying to force him to eat.) That would just spoil everyone's dinner, including the other guests we would most likely be seated with.

Here are some examples:

Teppan Edo

I would love to try this with the kids. Ed and I ate here once when we were down there on a weekend by ourselves and I thought the food was tasty and the chef highly entertaining.

We avoided it when Billy was small because I was deathly afraid he might reach out and scorch his hand on the hot metal table. He's older now and I don't think it is as much as a concern.

But.... What would he eat here without a fight??

Kids Menu

Kids' Teppan - includes vegetables, Udon noodles and steamed rice

Tori - chicken breast $12.00
Ebi - large shrimp $12.50

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Okosama Set - includes vegetables, steamed rice and dessert

Tempura Combo - shrimp and chicken $9.50
Teriyaki Chicken $9.50

Sounds good to me, but we have the hardest time trying to get him to eat any kind of chicken except for breaded nuggets or tenders and he refuses to eat rice.

So for now, Teppan Edo is out.

Okay, what about Chefs de France? We've never eaten there....

... because Ed has always said he did not want to eat here! The menu might be a bit adventureous for our family, anyway....

Hmmmm. The "breaded chicken strip" might do for Billy. (I'd be just fine with a bowl of Lobster Bisque and a big piece of crusty bread, but I don't see the rest of the family truly enjoying a meal here.)

Next up comes Nine Dragons (China) and Tutto Italia (Italy). Frankly, I haven't heard many good things about the food at Nine Dragons, although it certainly looks like a beautiful restaurant. Problem is, we're so used to really great Chinese food here in Jersey... I'm afraid that this meal would be a big disappointment.

I'm less worried about being disappointed at Tutto Italia. (We did eat at Alfredo's before it closed.) But, the same situation really does apply. We eat a lot of great Italian food quite often, so a meal here doesn't seem like it would be that much of an adventure!

Although they certainly would win points with Billy for serving his favorite.... macaroni!

So, Tutto Italia comes in as a "maybe," but at this point I'm feeling very meh about alternatives to Le Cellier.

But, wait a minute! Epcot is more than just World Showcase! There's a very nice table service restaurant in Future World..... Coral Reef! And it has all those wonderful :fish: to look at during dinner! The kids loved that when we ate here in 2006...

Let's see if they have anything Billy would eat....

Score!! Macaroni and Cheese! :woohoo:

The rest of the menu looks great, too....

The food rigidity is so hard sometimes... I don't think Billy has ever eaten a single vegetable other than carrots, and even they were consumed with great difficulty.

Having a back-up plan is a good idea.

We enjoyed our lunch at Rose & Crown and they do have mac'n cheese. Another alternative is Garden Grill in the Land. Mickey, Pluto and Chip 'n Dale are there for dinner. Kids meal is chicken nuggets and mac'n cheese and the big hit for my kids was the dessert, for kids they get to decorate their own cupcake adults get a fruit buckle. The cupcake comes plain and then they have little dishes of frosting and candies for decorating.

Both of those are great suggestions! Perhaps I'd be more inclined to do Rose & Crown because we did have a great character lunch at Garden Grill in '07. It's been much longer since we ate at Rose & Crown... perhaps it was in '05?? And it would be easy to get a ressie (so long as it wasn't for Illuminations seating!)

We really liked Coral Reef and it was one of the only dinner sit down meals my ASD son would eat (mac n cheese). He will only eat mac n cheese at this one restaurant by our house:confused3. How can you be picky with mac n cheese :confused3. I had read bad reviews for Coral Reef but we really liked it and went back the following year.

I was able to get Le Cellier for our Sept 09 trip so we are trying that this time.

We get the DDP for Gabriel because snacks alone (plain vanilla ice cream, popcorn, soft pretzels, grapes, juice) add up enough. It also gives him a chance to at least TRY something. (which can be quite amusing or quite the scene:rotfl:). Well and this year it is free dining so even better.

We normally plan more breakfasts because he will eat plain pancakes, plain waffles, blueberry muffins and cheerios if offered. Crystal Palace is our favorite breakfast followed by Boma (haven't been to Kona yet for breakfast).

So, you may recall that I had a phone conversation with DVC Member Services regarding the problem I had at wdw.com. (The system could not bring up my DVC resort confirmation number.) The CM made out a "help ticket" and told me that someone would respond in a few days.

I received a response today....
... and I really think they have no idea what I am talking about.

Hello Kathleen,

Thank you for contacting Member Services.

You can view your reservations on DVCMember.com by clicking "View
Vacation Details" under "My Membership," or by clicking on "My
Membership Points" on the Home Page, then scroll down the page and click
on "View Vacation Details." You will then see "Upcoming Vacations" and
"Completed Vacations."

Please let us know if you need any additional assistance.

Thank you,

Buffy

This is the reply I sent....

Thank you, Buffy, I am aware of that.

My concern has to do with the fact that I cannot retrieve my DVC resort reservation number on the wdw.com site. I will need the system to be able to access my reservation number when I attempt to use the on line dining reservation system.

My concern is that I will not be able to use the on line dining reservation system on wdw.com because wdw.com does not recognize my resort reservation number.

Could I have been any more clear that this?? :confused3

It is looking more and more like I will have to use the old telephone to make my ADRs.....

That was obviously a canned response! It's good that the online opens up an hour earlier, that way you can test it and if it doesn't work you are up and ready to call when the phone lines open. As for the website not retrieving your reservation under the my Disney vacation area. That seems to be hit or miss anyway - I just was doing that and it didn't recoginize it the first time I tried. It doesn't retrieve my dining reservations either, but I called and they are all there.

Thanks! But as you will see in my next update, Ed and Tricia have rebelled and want our second choice to be....

I just really don't want to have to tote around bologna and goldfish crackers whenever we go out to eat!! ;)

We really liked Coral Reef and it was one of the only dinner sit down meals my ASD son would eat (mac n cheese). He will only eat mac n cheese at this one restaurant by our house:confused3. Okay, in retrospect, I don't have access to the wording of the "help ticket" that was sent, so perhaps it was confusing to poor Buffy. :yo-yo:

Why do some Cast Members not even read your questions? Hello Buffy, wake up and read!!

Ibid. Let's see what response I get from my request for help!! (It may be good for a little chuckle.)

It's hit and miss for a lot of things when you use the words "Disney" and "online" in the same sentence!

But I still think it has something to do with having twe different usernames on different branches of the same website. Perhaps I'll try an experiment and try to change one so they match...

Sorry about the length of this... I only recently learned how to post links to chapters. I put them in my April report, but frankly I'm just too lazy to go back and do it for this PTR!! Is anyone here familiar with the term, "Flight of Ideas?" It's something I learned about (way) back in Psych Nursing. It's a term used to describe a type of thought and speech pattern usually found in schizophrenic patients.

flight of ideas
A nearly continuous flow of accelerated speech with abrupt changes from topic to topic that are usually based on understandable associations, distracting stimuli, or plays on words. When severe, speech may be disorganized and incoherent. ~ John F Abess, MD

Basically, each thought acts as a "jumping off point" for the next thought, which may or not seem related to the previous thought.

My friends, I believe I am suffering from Disney Flight of Ideas!

No matter what the current topic of discussion, my mind will find a way to associate it with our upcoming WDW vacation.

Tricia: "Mom, we need to go shopping soon for back-to-school clothes."
Me: "Yes, we will, I promise."
Tricia: "I really want to get a pair of those flats I saw in the store the other day, the ones with the buffalo plaid print."
Me: "We should get you some new running shoes to wear at Disney!"
Tricia: "I think those plaid shoes are sooo cute..."
Me:"...and we should get pool shoes for you and Billy, I've read that the concrete around the Kidani Village pool gets really hot!"
Tricia: "Mo-OM!!! We're talking about school shoes!"
Me: "Oh, sorry..."

Conversations such as these become proportionately more frequent the closer we get to our trip. Now that we're close to 90 days, they happen daily. My family is used to, albeit, slightly annoyed by how my ideas always seem to take flight to a certain parcel of land in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.

Tonight we were having dinner and watching TV. The characters on the screen were eating with chopsticks. We were talking about ... I can't recall exactly what, but suddenly I turned to Ed and said something like, "I thought we might try Teppan Edo as an alternate ADR if we can't get into Le Cellier, but then I thought that there wouldn't be anything there for Billy, so I thought we might Coral Reef again....what do you think?"

Both Ed and Tricia stopped eating, looked at me, looked at each other, and then burst out laughing. "Mom, how did you get from (insert forgotten topic of conversation) to Disney?"

I pointed to the TV. "Well, I saw them eating with chopsticks and that made me think of Teppan Edo!"

They snickered.

Billy chewed, apparantly oblivious to his mother's absurdity.

A bit flustered, I added, "And we are eating dinner, you know, so it's natural that I should think of our dinner ADRs!"

Really! :snooty: Don't they know I've been thinking about them for the past several days?!

The Disney Flight of Ideas:
Eating dinner > Seeing images of people eating with chopsticks > Teppan Edo

They were not entirely convinced by my argument, however, to humor me Ed remarked to Tricia that Teppan Edo had been lots of fun and that she would probably like it. Then he proceded to tell her about the chefs and the shows they put on while cooking dinner in front of you. She seemed intrigued.

"But Dad, they won't have anything for Billy to eat!" was her first remark.

"Ah-ha!" I answered, "That's what I thought! I think that we should try Coral Reef."

Tricia looked quizzical. I suppose she doesn't remember it. I tried to jog her memory by telling her it was "the restaurant in Epcot with the big fish tanks." Surprisingly, Ed wrinkled his brow.

"I'd rather eat at Teppan Edo," he declared. "Billy will eat the chicken, just bring along some goldfish (crackers) for him and he'll be set."

I sighed.

I do believe that when I'm 80 years old I'll be carrying around bags of goldfish for Billy in the basket of my walker.

Okay.... so Coral Reef has been bumped. Teppan Edo now stands as our Epcot alternate to Le Cellier.

Oh, by the way, I got an e-mail with flight changes for our return flight.... we have to leave an hour earlier now. :sad1:

(You got that, didn't you?) Bumped > Alternate > Flight Change

I don't think there's anything to worry about with a case of DFI - in fact, I would think something was wrong if you didn't get it at the 90 day mark!

I also have a chronic case!!!

winnapooh
07-30-2009, 09:38 AM
I had to quickly skim through the last few days, so sorry if I missed something and repeat what's already been said...but with DVC reservations, they never come up in My Disney Reservations (at least not for me, nor for others that I have read). They will still come up in the dining system, however, if you Retrieve the Reservation (click on Book a Reservation for a restaurant, then click Retrieve a Reservation). You can then associate it with the dining reservations, and it will open the +10 window.

As for the split stay...that's a huge issue, one we are dealing with as well (unhappily, I might add...we have three separate reservation numbers...we used to have 5 or 6 and finally was able to get some of them combined). Unfortunately there is no way around it, as we have tried talking to managers, etc. It's a flaw in the new system. My response was that it's not an updated system if you delete features!!!! So you will have to wait 90 days from each number. VERY annoying, since we are onsite the whole time!!!

That being said, we still got Le Cellier, three times now (we got it for the first stay, then got it for the second stay, cancelled the first one, then moved it again, and cancelled the second one). So there is hope, even if you don't get the full +10 from the first day of your stay.

Good luck!

Oh Kathy, I could have written your last installment. I definitely suffer from DFI, no doubt about it and I don't necessarily have to have a trip in the works either although it is a bigger problem if I do. DH and DD12 just smile and roll their eyes, DS8 and DD7 don't seem to pay attention. :rotfl:

If you end up with Teppan Edo you may want to talk to the Dining people and see if there is anything they can offer for Billy. I've read on the DISability forum about accomodations that are made sometimes, most of the time it is for allergies but I'd think they could do something for a special needs child too. It wouldn't hurt to ask.

I also love CP's "Buffy the Problem Slayer" - :rotfl2::thumbsup2 I got a very similar voicemail back from Member Services when inquiring about the rumor of the "caste system" for the ADRs. It was completely unhelpful. I gave up at that point and just let it go.

What is the hint on getting LeCellier?

And speaking of LeCellier (DFI), I was listening to the lastest Podcast this morning and they reported they WALKED UP to LeCellier (lunch) the other day. There were tables EMPTY! It was the first time in years they have been able to do that. They think it's because the online system is completely wack and it's showing no availability, but there truly is. So, it might be worth trying to do a walk-up reservation if you don't get it on the phone.

Teppan Edo looks delicious though, a very good alternative. I cracked up at your comment about goldfish in your walker!!!!!!!! :rotfl:

I also suffer from Disney Flight of Ideas. I think it gets worse the closer to get to your trip too! All your connections made complete sense to me! :goodvibes ;)

Gabriel is a sniffer too. He can be quite comical when it comes to forcing him to try something new. He really doesn't eat bad...just not a big variety. He has never eaten meat and doesn't eat CHOCOLATE:scared1:. Not that I want him eating tons of chocolate but really, a child of mine, not even trying it....:confused3 I think I bleed Hershey's. It's pretty hard while we are out but yes I usually pack something for him to eat.

Our last two trips (WL/SSR/CSR) I gave my sister a shopping list and she delivered stuff to us since she lives around 2 hrs away. That worked well. We are staying at POP and I am debating get the fridge or if I should just pack a collapsible cooler.

We are going the 4th through the 9th so maybe it won't be so crowded. We have never been to Le Cellier so I hope it's good. I was more worried about getting my beloved Crystal Palace before the park opens breakfast.:cloud9::cloud9::cloud9:

I hope to do a trip report and maybe will even start a PTR:thumbsup2

This is the first year Gabriel is really "excited" about going. Every year he gets a little better and trys new things so it will be interesting to see what new thing he will try this year.

He gave me three clues yesterday.....Bridge, Water, Castle.....I couldn't figure it out and then he said Disney World. I thought, yes, there is a little bridge with water next to the Castle. What a smartie pants....and my DFI didn't even kick in to figure the puzzle out.

What a great group of readers and you are a fabulous TR writer...another reason I love reading TRs and am :scared1: to write my own (don't think I'm all that witty?!)

Anyway, must comment on a few things and PM you about some too if you don't mind...

Yes... I noticed my ADR countdown ticker was a bit off, so I fixed it. I can make them this Saturday! :goodvibes

Well your ADR day is my DS 3rd Birthday so extra pixiedust: for you!!

Updated ADR Request List:

Here is our current ADR list:

Breakfasts:

~ Boma
~ Play and Dine at Hollywood & Vine (could also take early lunch if needed)
~ Crystal Palace (Pre-park opening)

Dinners:

~ Le Cellier
~ Biergarten
~ 'Ohana
~ Chef Mickey's
~ 50's Prime Time Cafe

Your ADRs look great...we love Biergarten so one more rave review for you on that buffet and my DS loves Play-N-Dine too...so we're trying it for lunch this time (did breakfast last year).

Hello and :welcome:

Sorry about the length of this... I only recently learned how to post links to chapters. I put them in my April report, but frankly I'm just too lazy to go back and do it for this PTR!! I will do it when we get to the actual report, however, because it certainly does make it easier for new readers.

Doing links on a PTR can be daunting.... like Jordan said, it's kind of like musing aloud about the upcoming trip. It's actually just another way to talk to yourself, only here your cyber-friends actually talk back to you!! :lmao:

Liz, feel free to PM me with any questions or just to say hello! Any friend of Scrappie's is a friend of mine! :grouphug:

Kathy

Thanks for the welcome! :goodvibes I'm sure I'll have lots of SSR questions and maybe even some DVC ? for you, but I'll send them in a PM :thumbsup2

Is anyone here familiar with the term, "Flight of Ideas?"

The Disney Flight of Ideas:
Eating dinner > Seeing images of people eating with chopsticks > Teppan Edo

Oooh, Oooh, Oooh, I so have this...Hi My name is Liz and I have Disney Flight of Ideas!! (oh yes, I did catch the Horshack refrence all those pages ago) :lmao:

that is sweet, I am glad she found you!

always enjoy reading your updates!

Scrappie

Thanks Scrappie for pointing me to Kathy's TR. You both are awesome mommy's and I feel priviledged to read your stories  and join you in ODP (Obsessive Disney Planning)...it's an -itis you know!

Aaaahhhh, its so good to know I'm not alone! :tilt: :tilt: :tilt:

My Disney trip is always simmering on the back burners of my mind!

Kathy

Mine is not only in back burners of my mind...it's in each of my dreams at night! :rotfl: and my free moments at work :rolleyes1

ETA: just got an obviously "canned" response from the "helpdesk" after sending an email about the payment page not loading correctly...she (I got Theresa not Buffy) kindly told me how to access "My Disney Vacation"??? Ok, I <3 Disney...but come on people?!

I always suffer from Flight of Ideas!!! Sadly, I didn't need your explanation of why you thought about Teppan Edo. My DH always makes me track back HOW I thought of something random.

That's too funny! :lmao:

Oh, Kathy, I so love your writing, I think because it so goes along with exactly what I'm thinking. Lately my kids are saying the same thing!! CAN Mom ever get through 2 minutes of conversation without bringing up this or that about Disney??!!

If they could only understand...

I try very hard to control myself... but as we inch closer and closer to our trip, It gets increasingly difficult to curb the DFI!! :rolleyes1

Yep - I've got it too! Even without another trip planned, I have to mentally remind myself at times when I'm speaking to Non-Disney-obsessed people, how NOT to insert something into the conversation about Disney! It's a real challenge - I tell ya! Oh well. I like it that we are all understanding of the DFI! :grouphug:

Sara

We seem to be inventing our own vocabulary.... First it was OTP now its DFI!! :rotfl: I always tell my family that I can't be that "weird" because there are an awful lot of people just like me on the DIS!!! :grouphug:

I definitely think that there are far worse subjects a person can get obsessed with!! :thumbsup2 As for Teppan Edo, perhaps I could call ahead if necessary. When we traveled with Aunt Rae all the TS chefs were incredibly accommodating with regard to her gluten-free diet. ::yes::

I made it :yay: finally finished reading all 127 pages!!! :woohoo: Yes, and I even read almost :rolleyes1 all the chit-chat

Wow! I mean, WOW!! I can't believe you slogged through this entire report!! :faint:

Thanks for all the lovely compliments. You should definitely consider writing a PTR... it's lots of fun and a great way to channel your DFI (and keep your family from going crazy listening to you all the time!)

I sent you a PM about SSR... what little I can remember about our stay there. Too bad it was pre-DIS and I never got a chance to write about it...

Gabriel is a sniffer too. He can be quite comical when it comes to forcing him to try something new. He really doesn't eat bad...just not a big variety.....It's pretty hard while we are out but yes I usually pack something for him to eat.

I hope to do a trip report and maybe will even start a PTR:thumbsup2

This is the first year Gabriel is really "excited" about going. Every year he gets a little better and trys new things so it will be interesting to see what new thing he will try this year.

I find that WDW gets better and better for Billy with each passing year!! :cloud9: I think our kids make progress too, just at a much slower pace. Just the fact that he can now order a hot dog opens up so many new dining possibilities!!

Billy not only sniffs his food, he sniffs the characters!

(I have to warn them about that ahead of time!)

You had me laughing out loud with your past couple updates!!!!! :lmao:

..... I got a very similar voicemail back from Member Services when inquiring about the rumor of the "caste system" for the ADRs. It was completely unhelpful. I gave up at that point and just let it go.

Very interesting! :scratchin

More on this in my next post.....

Glad you got to laugh a bit... hope the shaking didn't hurt your foot!! I see you're down to your last week of "Das Boot." :thumbsup2

*Note* This post, while certainly pertaining to trip-planning, may be a tad boring if you're not

1) A DVC Member, or

2) Someone with linked ressies who is planning to make your ADRs on line.

You've been warned! (The rest of you can all take a little cat-nap.)

After receiving two less-than-helpful e-mail responses from DVC Member Services, I was honored with a phone call tonight from a real-live MS cast member. Her name.....

.....Joy.

Real name or fake? We will never know for sure!

Anyway, she was extremely pleasant and Disney-like. This was obviously someone who had a talent for smoothing ruffled feathers because she listened attentively while I described the difficulties I had experienced getting straight answers from Disney regarding both the party dates for the MNSSHP and the use of the new on-line dining reservation system. :headache: She readily admitted that based on guest feedback, more training was necessary for those CMs in positions of answering our questions.

We had a lovely talk and we laughed together about how some Disney fans are true Uber-Planners and the extent to which we went to plan every detail of our WDW vacations. (I recommended she read the book, Mousejunkies, to get a good laugh or two, as well as insight into the mind of the Dis-Crazed!) I learned a few things, too.

I mentioned that Free Dining seems to have made the need for ADRs a necessity and that in some cases it has become difficult to procure reservations for popular restaurants at decent meal times. Joy stated that she thought the real reason for this was the change from the 180-day window to 90 days. "All you Uber-Planners had your days planned out and your dining reservations made five or six months before your vacation!" she laughed. "Then the rest of the guests would start thinking about reservations much closer to their trips." Now that we planners are forced to wait, we are "competing" with a larger pool of guests who are making ressies at the 90-day mark.

I also tossed in a comment that it was very difficult for the "Uber-Planners," who tend to be repeat customers, to plan our trips when park hours and entertainment schedules are released at only 90 days out. Of course, Joy has no power to change this, but I just felt like it should be said.

"Planning was never this stressful before!" I told her. She really did seem to understand, telling me that a good friend of hers is an "Uber-Planner" and has been telling her the same thing lately.

The next issue we discussed was the on-line dining reservation system.

"Why," I asked, "does a person with linked reservations need to log on multiple times for multiple 90-day windows?" "Doesn't the first ressie entitle you to the 90 + 10 window?"

The reason is this... the current software not only notes your check-in date for each of your linked ressies, it notes your check-out date as well! Linked ressies are actually a succession of check-ins and check-outs, even if they are "linked" so you do not have to move rooms.

When the current program notes your check-out date for each ressie, you're done. You cannot continue to make on-line ressies. Unlike the Disney Dining CM you call on the phone... who can look on the screen and see that your ressies are linked and note the dates of your 90 + 10... the computer cannot recognize that you have not actually finished your vacation just because you "checked out" of your resort.

While annoying, this certainly sounded plausible.

She also assured me that at 90 days, DVC resort reservation confirmation numbers can be accessed by the on-line dining system. "We did have a problem with that in the past," she remarked, "but that's been fixed."

Joy apologized for the glitches in the system and asked that guests be understanding while Disney "worked out the kinks." Unfortunately, I do not think the system will be smoothed out by Saturday. :sad2: I said as much to Joy and then told her that because I did not want to lose an entire day of my dining reservation window, I would need to switch my reservation around.

She asked that I not go to the trouble, that I had had enough anxiety with planning the trip already. (I had related to her the whole is-there-or-isn't-there-a-MNSSHP-on-Nov. 1st. miscommunication from a few months back, and how it necessitated the addition of that additional night for cash.)

"If you use the phone-in system and have difficulty getting a certain reservation, call me and I will see what I can do behind the scenes to get you that reservation," she told me. Then she gave me her direct number. She reminded me that her name was Joy and I told her that she certainly sounded joyful, which she did. I could envision her big, friendly, Disney smile the entire time we were on the phone.

After I hung up, I felt better. Perhaps the on-line system will work more efficiently by the time I'm planning our next trip, but for now I'll be making that phone call on Saturday morning... knowing that I have a little backup plan to the backup plan... if that makes any sense.

Just use your DFI....

So glad to hear about your talk with Joy. Sometimes getting your concerns off of your chest to someone who seems like they may be able to change or fix the situation seems to make all the difference in the world (no pun intended)---even if they can't solve your particular problem. However you do it, hope you get all of the ADRs you are hoping for on Saturday, we'll be keeping our fingers crossed for you!

On a more confusing note, two weeks ago when I signed in to make my October ADRs, I put in my ressie number to pull up my 90+however many and was able to make ADRs for the full 90+10 even though we are only staying for 2 nights. :confused3 I'm hoping it works the same way with our December trip since we have our first night in cash and the rest on DVC points, but with my luck---I may need to hit you up for Joy's direct number in September :rotfl2: :rotfl: :rolleyes1

The whole 90-day thing... for park hours and for ADRs... has really been a thorn in my side this trip. I'm hoping that I don't have the good fortune to be granted all my ADRs only to see park hours later that day and realize I need to change my schedule around!! :faint:

Yes, I'll give it a shot.... but I'll be too revved up to go back to sleep!! :hyper: The best part is that its going to be Saturday morning, so no worries about getting either of the kids up and out the door for school or camp!!

Hopefully you won't be on hold for too long on Saturday. I hope you get all the reservations you want :thumbsup2. Do you think we should have a back up restaurant if 'Ohana doesn't have room for all of us?

Hmmm. I think we'll be okay... 5:00 PM is kind of early for most people, so I'm not worried. When we were there in '07 I saw several large parties seated in the dining room...

If you'd feel better having a back up, though, I'm open to suggestions. We'll probably be PMing like crazy as the trip gets nearer!! :rotfl:

Thank you, too! Walt Disney always said that it was the people who make the magic at WDW, not the rides shows, and it is still so true.

Also you would laugh but DH & I had some DFI last night...we are watching some TV after the kids went to bed, well actually me I'm secretly addicted to SYTYCD :dance3: and the host mentioned the tour this fall > Matt then mentioned that They Might Be Giants will be on tour this fall and doing a family show, he wants to take the kids > I then say oh I love their Disney kid tv show theme songs ;)

Wow...an actual call back from someone at Disney???? I'm shocked!!!

Well... techically from Disney Vacation Club.

I suppose we've already paid for this service somehow!

I'll be thinking of you tommorow! Good luck! Hope you get everything you want and times that work too pixiedust:

If your up, I'd still try the online. I didn't make any reservations for the first day either. If the 90+10 is going to work, you'll be ok - if it isn't - then it wouldn't work either way - KWIM?

True.

Here's some PD for your ADRs tomorrow. I also didn't have any need for ADRs on the first day of our ressie when I made my split stay ressies. If you do you could always make one and then cancel if you don't end up wanting it later.

Will definitely be checking in tomorrow to see how it all goes for you.

ADRs Have Been Made!

I decided last night that it would probably just be better to phone in my ADR requests. ... I know... I know. I did say that I'd give the online system a chance, but I decided that I would accept Joy's assessment that the computer would not be able to "see" the linked ressies and decided it would not be worth the aggravation.

I know the drill (as do most of you), so at 6:45 this morning I was all ready. Last night I had written down all our ADR wishes in order of importance, noted any "plan B" restaurants, and of course, had our resort confirmation number(s) handy. No need for a credit card this time, but I had one with me JIC.

With fresh tea steaming in my Minnie Mouse mug, I sat with my cell phone and land phone at the kitchen table and waited. I'm so glad my call day landed on Saturday and I didn't have to worry about getting the kids off to school/camp or myself off to work!! :goodvibes

At a couple of minutes to seven, I used both phones to call Disney Dining (the number was pre-programmed on speed dial.) Both got messages that DD was closed, so I hung up and hit both the recall buttons twice before getting through and put on hold. The wait time was estimated at four minutes for the one phone (the other did not give me an estimate.)

Kind of funny to be sitting there with two different Disney songs playing on two speaker phones, but as soon as the first phone connected with the operator I hung up the other.

This reservationist seemed "new" to me or perhaps she was unfamiliar with the computer, because it was ten minutes until we got down to making the first ressie. Ten. Minutes. :confused3

The problem was two-fold. First, the computer "wouldn't let her" make ressies for the second of the two linked resort confirmation numbers. I explained that I had done this before, as had many others, and that she should be able to link the dining.

That's when the second problem arose. Remember the dingleberry CM who originally told me that the online system would be able to "see" the linked resort ressies? (This later proved to be untrue.) Well, I had asked dingleberry CM to add the regular DDP to our ressie, which he did cheerfully.

Problem was... he only added it to our first night stay! The second linked resort ressie was not linked to the DDP and somehow this was causing Dining Ressie CM much difficulty with her computer.

"Gee, I'm glad I'm not calling for Cinderella's Royal Table," I quipped.

Silence on the other end as she tapped away at her keyboard. :rolleyes2 Oy.

Meanwhile, under the table, I flipped open my cell phone and secretly hit the speed dial for DD again. I figured as soon as I got connected, I would dump this CM ASAP!

I told her not to worry about the Dining Plan, I could call DVC Member Services later and take care of it... all I wanted now was to continue making my reservations.... as precious time was ticking away....

Sometime about now, Ed came home from work. He put his things down and sat at the table with me while I pointed to my list of ADRs and made rude faces at the phone and the motions of shooting a pistol at my head.

Ed laughed.

Finally, Finally! ADR CM got to the point where she said, "Okay, it will let me make the reservations, but they won't be linked to the Dining Plan..."

Yes, I explained, that was fine... I would take care of that later.... Could we please continue with making the reservations???

After that, things went smoothly.

Time Check = 7:20 AM

Somehow, thankfully, I was able to get everything I wanted!!

Boma Asked for: 9:30 AM Received: 9:35 AM

* We're checking in very late the night before and since this is the day of the MNSSHP, we're just going to relax and swim at the resort (Kidani Village) all day until it's time to get ready for the party. :thumbsup2

Play and Dine at H & V Asked for: 11:30 AM Received: 11:05 AM

* This is the morning after the MNSSHP, so my plan is to let everyone sleep in and to begin our day at DHS with Play and Dine. :thumbsup2

Chef Mickey's Asked for: 6:00 PM Received: 6:25 PM

* Pre-park Breakfast at the CP that day, so after a full day at the MK, we'll have dinner and then go back to the resort.... we're planning to catch Wishes another day! :thumbsup2

So, there you have it. It was somewhat stressful dealing with a CM who apparantly did not know how to use her computer, but all's well that end's well. :goodvibes

I'm very pleased with what we got... now I'm just keeping my fingers crossed and waiting for November park hours and entertainment schedules to be released. :shamrock: Hopefully we'll be lucky, and I won't need to call back and change anything!!

Aacckk!! :faint:

I'm sure it's all due to the fluctuating economy. They probably wait to plan how much staffing they can cut to save $$ if the projected resort and park attendance will be low. That would affect hours (shorter) and entertainment schedules (fewer showings of Fantasmic and SpectroMagic.)

:headache: Stupid economy.....

Congrats! Glad to see that all worked out in the end.

During your post---you hit the nail on the head with why I plan to use online rather than phone ADRs. At 7:00am in the morning---I would have been way too cranky to deal with a "dingleberry" CM. :rotfl: :rotfl2:

I may have patience and anger management issues though. :rolleyes1 I made a switch to our resort ressie for October this morning and gave the CM the code "FSC" to use and they were telling me it wasn't a valid code (not that there weren't any rooms using that code). I was staring right at WDW's website that instructed me to use "FSC" and had already made my ressies under that code. :headache: I almost hung up, but I figured I already waited 15 minutes for an answer---I'd just bite my tongue and put on my Disney face. :thumbsup2

Congrats again---so glad you were able to get your ressies---only 90 more days until Disney!! :woohoo:

I think this was more a computer software problem... the cm didn't tell me that the policy had changed, just that the computer "wouldn't let her" make the linked ressies work the 90 + 10.

Then again, I'm also inclined to think it was a simply a matter of her inexperience... after waiting on hold while she asked someone to help her, she came back and was able to figure it out. :rolleyes1

I think Joy was right when she commented that the phone CMs need better training...

Congrats on your ADR's Kathy! I got everything I wanted too! Now we can relax until park hours are released!

Let me tell you about my tale of 2 laptops this morning!

I got up at 4:55 to do my online reservations. I was at my fiance's apartment and I had to "borrow" internet. Had I have known it was going to act up as much as it did, I would have slept in an hour and just called.

I started with my laptop and it was going so slow so I busted his out and had them both going. I ended up with the "important" ones (Le Cellier, CRT) and started with booking smaller ones on his (with the exception of Coral Reef). By the time I was ready to checkout (this was about 6:15) I had:

On my laptop:
Le Cellier
CRT
Chef Mickey's
Ohana
Whispering Canyon Cafe

On his laptop:
Coral Reef
50's PTC
Kona Cafe

So I'm all set to check out (I even had my cc down for CRT) and I get white screens! I wanted to scream!!

So I ended up having to call about 6:30. After 4 minutes on hold, I finally got someone. Well my 3 ADR's from his laptop went through, my 5 didn't. I was so tired at this point, I whined, "but those were my important ones!!"

She was great though! She worked her magic and I got all of those within 10 minutes of when I had originally booked them! I was finally back in bed at 6:47 (grand total of 1 hour and 52 minutes!!)

Next time, I call!

We had a 5:00 ADR and I thought that would be plenty of time to get over to Fantasmic. Time has a way of slipping by in DHS and we had to wait for our table, wait for our check, make two trips to the bathroom....

We left the restaurant at 6:30 and as we walked to the Fantasmic Theatre people kept going in the opposite direction. They had already closed it up and weren't letting anybody in. No room left. We were really disappointed. :sad1:This time we really want to see it so we are getting the Package.

If we are desperate, we can use the GAC, but I would want to use it more to bypass the long line rather than get a particular seat. I think with proper planning, we should be okay.

Remember, the first week of November starts with Daylight Savings Time on Sunday, Nov. 1st. (Fall back!) That means that dusk will fall one hour earlier than it had in previous weeks.

Historically, "Jersey Week" is crowded, especially toward the end of the week, and Disney adds on a second Fantasmic show on that weekend. Because of this, I'm betting that there will be double Fantasmics that Friday... most likely at 7:00 and at 8:30. I would shoot for the second showing, which is always less crowded and will give us more time to eat. :thumbsup2

Of course, this is a gamble until park hours/entertainment schedules are confirmed....

Congratulations Kathy! I had a similarly trained (or UN-trained) CM when I made our ADRs. As those precious minutes tick by the sound of lost ADR times is almost audible. I'm glad you got everything you wanted and didn't have to rely on Joy's magic.:wizard:

So glad you were able to get EVERYTHING! :thumbsup2 :yay: I love the trick of using 2 phones. Very, very smart. :goodvibes

If we are desperate, we can use the GAC, but I would want to use it more to bypass the long line rather than get a particular seat. I think with proper planning, we should be okay.

We used the GAC to get into Fantasmic (Joe's eye condition-need front row seating). We avoided the line and got a 2nd row seat. I don't think the first CM we spoke to was all that thrilled we showed up 2 minutes before show time...but the second one ushered us straight to a seat with a smile. :goodvibes We probably should have done the line and then used the GAC just for the seat we need - but...well....:rolleyes1 We ended up sitting in the Dinner Package seating.

Does Billy do okay with waiting? Otherwise, I imagine you would be just fine using the GAC to bypass the line. When we got there, MANY seats were still open, but toward the back only.

Oh, that's not good news. :sad1: Hopefully, things will improve soon.

I'm having a little trouble with plantar fasciitis myself... going to the podiatrist soon... hope I don't have to give up my Crocs!!!

We've got to get our tootsies in shape for Disney!!

Kathy

I'm sorry to hear about your plantar fasciitis! :sad2: Do podiatrists think Crocs are bad for your feet? My Mom says near everyone at the Mayo Clinic (where she works), doctors and nurses alike wear 'em since they are on their feet all day, everyday!

I have high arches, which I belive is a big part of the problem. I've been wearing my Cayman Crocs at work in the doctor's office and around the house for about 2 1/2 years and this is the first time I've had foot trouble.

I think it's the 2 pair of Crocs flip-flops that I've been wearing practically all summer in my "off" hours that may have started it all....

We'll have to see what happens with Fantasmic. If there are two shows that night and we attend the later one, I don't anticipate a problem with getting to the theater a bit later.

Congrats on the ADRs!!!

One of the automated things should be
"Do you DIS? Press 7"
then they know to give us the good CM that know what they are doing, or access to the system ourselves to make the ressies go faster! :lmao:

Congratulations on getting all those wonderful ADRs! Reading about them is making me hungry!

As a physical therapist, I will tell you that the flip-flops are indeed where the plantar fascitis came from. I did the same thing to myself while living in AZ!!!

I thought so!

I put the same Powerstep inserts that I use in my walking shoes in my Crocs Cayman's and they really help! :thumbsup2

Hungry?? I wonder why??

Chelsea knows about it but has been sworn to secrecy -- she overheard me requesting the days off from my principal. We haven't told Connor yet -- partly because I know how he is going to react -- I am going to have to promise him something good as a souvenir! :rotfl:

Kathy,
I realize this is old news, but I am glad to hear that AR handled your announcement so well. It can be so hard when older relatives don't realize that they just can't do everything anymore and you need another trip without the ARF!

P.S. Maybe one of you could leave your room with your slippers on just once for old times sake!
