In related PTR News....
Today I took Aunt Rae shopping at Best Buy. She had a coupon for Paul Blart: Mall Cop that was burning a hole in her pocket and she wanted to use it before it expired. (She also wanted to get a copy for Ed for a Father's Day present!)
Anyway, we're looking around and I noticed that Disney has released some of their classic shorts from "the vault." I could not resist, especially because one of them was The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad. For some strange reason, we never had this on DVD. (I seem to remember having The Wind in the Willows on VHS a while back, but we no longer have even that.)
How does this relate to our Halloween PTR, you might ask??
Well, the Boo To You Too Halloween Parade is led by a ghostly rider on horseback... the Headless Horseman!! The kids are not even remotely familiar with The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, so I'd like them to watch this before our trip so they can get the full effect!!
Now, the only problem is... I really want to watch it now!!!! Should I wait until its closer to Halloween, or just go for it???
Kathy
I am *so* excited about those videos! DH got me Vol 5 (Wind in the Willows) & I bought myself Vol 1 (Mickey & the Beanstalk)

You should watch it now -- it will help ease the Disney longing! :thumbsup2
I say Go for it, too!
Yep...go for it! :thumbsup2

Well, not that I needed an arm-twisting or anything, but.... :rolleyes1
I caved and watched the DVD with the kids before bed and they really enjoyed it!! (Especially Ichabod and his horse!!) Billy was laughing and laughing during the part where the Headless Horseman was chasing Ichabod through Sleepy Hollow!! He thought it was hysterically funny!! Tricia enjoyed it too, but I noticed she was a little bit spooked by it and told me she hoped she didn't have bad dreams!! :confused3 She's thirteen!!
"Mom, I have a very active imagination," she told me as I was kissing her goodnight. "Now shut my closet door, otherwise I'll see the Headless Horseman coming out of it!"
I couldn't figure out if she was serious or just pulling my leg!!
Beka, I think I'll probably be going back for more of these DVDs. I didn't mention it before, but I also got Vol. One of the Timeless Tales Collection because it had The Prince and the Pauper and The Three Little Pigs! It also has three more shorts from the 30's, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Pied Piper, and The Grasshopper and the Ants. Such great old Disney classics!! :thumbsup2
I definitely want to get the volume with Mickey and the Beanstalk, too. When Eddie (now 19) was little, we had the VHS of Mickey and the Beanstalk and The Prince and the Pauper and he loved them so much they practically wore out!!
Anyway, the kids will definitely know who the Headless Horseman is now!!

You can watch it now and then watch it again as the trip approaches.
Was Paul Blart a good movie?
One of my friends said that there's a little boy in her son's second grade class named Ichabod. He goes by Ike.

How fun about all the characters that come out during the party! It will be so neat just to see them around everywhere. But, I do hope your kids will indulge you a bit, they will make great pictures!
Glad to hear you went for it with the movie too. That is kinda funny about Tricia and her "active imagination". I bet in a way she was serious, but wanted to make it a bit of a joke at the same time-knowing she is probably a tad too old to be truly scared. I remember being a bit nervous about various things like that into my teen years too.
Hopefully she had no bad dreams! :goodvibes
Brook,
I love the new Henry pictures in your siggie... what a riot those motorcycle ones are!! :rotfl:
Kathy
Thank you! When I saw that Target was featuring the cycle I knew we had to do it! Neither one of us are motorcycle people, but Henry loooooves all things with a motor. ;)

Love the old school pics Heidi. I can't imagine it being a more "free for all" for the characters. I bet it took less time though!

I haven't seen Mall Cop... Ed took Tricia, though, and they said it was silly, but funny!
We did watch the DVD (see post, earlier) and we'll definitely watch again as it gets closer to Halloween!
I'm glad that little boy goes by Ike, otherwise the kids would call him "Icky!" :rotfl:

Thanks, Brook. I tried to explain to her that Ichabod's rival, Brom Bones, made up the ghost story at the party and later pretended to be the Horseman so he could scare him away and marry the girl. "It's a Walt Disney cartoon, Tricia, I don't think there would be anyone actually killed by a scary ghost, do you?"
But, I'm not sure she bought it entirely!
Thirteen is such a funny age. One minute, she's acting like such a teenager with the hairstyling and the makeup, and the next she's playing with her AG dolls, making clothes for them and having a doll tea party! :cutie:
When I was thirteen, I still played Barbies with my younger sisters!
She still has one foot in each world (for now!)

Hi caught up....
Have to chime in on my first movie as a kid was ET.
My Mom is taking the kids to see Up! this Saturday morning, so I'll be looking forward to the review...we'll try to see it together when it's at the cheep show...(getting movie tickets for 5 people is  Margaret is still to young)
Thanks to Heidi for sharing her "old" character pic's.
Kathy the charcater list looks awesome...hope you see many of them!
In 2 posts to come on my TR...I'll have lots to share in the character realm.
Love that you bought and watched Ichabod and Mr. Toad....we have it on VHS, Michael just watched it not to long ago.

06-02-2009, 10:42 PM
Well, as promised (Kristine!!), I'm posting some pix of "the new park bag." (Overland Equipment "Carmel" bag.)
(I was rushing, so please excuse the poor quality... I forgot to turn off the flash!)
First, a picture of the empty bag:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2136.jpg
The dimensions are 13" x 11" x 6"
Some features that I liked right away are:
*The pockets under the flap are zippered, plus there are two separate pockets so your stuff doesn't get all jumbled together.
*The main section is very roomy.
* There is an external flat pocket on the back.
* The two side pockets can hold water bottles, and they collapse flat against the bag when not in use.
So, I decided to do an experiment and gather as much "stuff" as I could and see if it would fit into the bag. I mean, I put together just about as many park supplies as I could think of (probably more that I will actually carry.)
But, this is what I would like to be able to carry comfortably if I could:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2137.jpg
A closer look at my "load"...
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2139.jpg
So, what is all that stuff, you may ask!! :rotfl:
Here goes:
"Vacation" wallet (lime green, of course!)
cell phone
camera
extra memory card/batteries for camera
tissues
travel journal
pen
index cards with itineraries/ADR confirmation #s, etc.
park maps/Times Guides
DVC Portable Perks
ponchos (mine and Billy's)
small towel
full change of clothes for Billy
Long-sleeved shirts for layering (mine and Billy's)
eyeglasses
sunglasses
sunscreen
wet wipes
feminine supplies
lip balm
first aid kit/OTC meds such as Advil, Tums, etc.
gum and little snacks for kids
little toys for Billy (for waiting in lines)
case containing ear plugs for Billy
extra backs for pins
water bottles (usually just one, but this bag has 2 pockets, so I tried it.)
Whew!!
Well, believe it or not, everything FIT!!
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2142.jpg
Just one... little... problem, though....
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2143.jpg
When I tried to close the flap... it wouldn't reach!! :lmao:
So, I took everything out and did some repositioning and re-packing. Once I made the two front pockets less bulky and transferred some items into the main section of the bag, everything fit and I could get the bag closed!
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2146.jpg
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/WDW%2008/DSCN2147.jpg
It actually felt pretty comfortable, although once I removed the two water bottles, it became noticably lighter. I may carry only one or, better yet, let Ed carry the water as he's been doing all along. ;)
Hopefully it will not be too long until I can give it a test run on a day trip or two this summer. That's when we'll really find out how this baby performs!!

Kathy - I'm glad your bag looks like it's going to work. I was a big fan of the side water bottle pockets on my (similar, but smaller) Overland Donner bag - I really missed having those when I carried the Vera Bradley hipster this past trip. I didn't like having to carry around a cold water bottle and have it "sweat" all over my hands as it got warmer. Plus, it kind of forced me to drink the water really quickly in the morning, so I wouldn't have to carry the aforementioned "sweaty" cold water bottle! Then I would really want water later in the day, and it was all gone. (yes, I usually just refilled it at the water fountain, but the flavor....blech....)
Anyways, glad it looks like it's going to work!! :thumbsup2
(I am also a big fan of individual sized zip-loc bags! Oh my - how they work magic in so many ways!!!)

Sometimes I wonder if we should just get a locker every day, but then I think how inconvenient it would be to have to walk all the way back to the front of the park when you need something!
We did get lockers the year we went in December because we didn't want to carry our jackets once it warmed up. So, the lockers do have their uses...
...And as for shoes, well, he has more than I do!!!

I get emails when threads I subscribe to have updates and when I saw in my email that you had gotten your new bag - I got all excited - LOL! That's a bit crazy I think. What a great bag - can the strap be expanded so if you wanted to, you could put it cross ways (like your bagganlini)? I'm just thinking that much stuff is going to cause a sore shoulder no matter what kind of bag you have - but if you can give your shoulder a rest once in awhile by changing the position - it should be fine.

Love the bag, it looks great! I too packed up my bagallini when I got it to see if it would work, lol.
My kids love the Ichabod & Mr. Toad movie. One thing you can research for your Oct trip is the Haunted Carriage Ride. We did it last Oct on our trip and it was great. DS8 was kind of spooked but not enough to cause a problem. It was a carriage ride at Ft. Wilderness, they ride you through the wooded area and play the Sleepy Hollow story. There's even a surprise at the end! I don't want to give too much info but if you want details just PM me. It used to be a big wagon ride but they changed it to personal carriages last year, not sure what they'll do this year but you might look into it.

I wish I could sew! Those ideas sound so cute!
The bag is like a deep messenger bag...there's even a firm divider between the main compartment and the long pocket inside that feels like its padded with some kind of foam. I suppose that's so you can carry your laptop...
.... What a great bag - can the strap be expanded so if you wanted to, you could put it cross ways (like your bagganlini)?
The strap is adjustable!
Of course, I probably won't be carrying all this stuff every day... I was just curious to see how much I could fit inside!!
Really, though, without the water bottles it was very comfortable. But, then again, I tend to carry a large bag every day, so I'm accustomed to the size.
Thanks for getting all excited for me!!! :yay:

I think it will.
The only thing that I'm anxious to discover is whether it is easy to find items in the large main compartment. I found that the front pockets can't hold too much bulk... only the flatter items like phone, tissues, maps, wallet, etc.
 Perhaps I can use the water bottle pockets for other things if Ed carries the water...

lol on the sweet talking hubby into carrying it. DH always carries a backpack so generally "my" park bag really becomes the jacket tote and gets tossed in a locker when we arrive and picked up around dinner time when it cools down. Everything else fits in my cargo pockets...or Dh's backpack!

Really, you wouldn't! You wouldn't have to stick it in the cargo pouch on the rides or put it in your lap. You wouldn't have to switch shoulders or adjust a darn thing. It's amazingly freeing.
It is however, predicated on a few things to really make it work.
Assume you won't need your glasses, Rx sunglasses (if you need them!) will have to suffice. But the glasses are in DH's backpack with DH's reading glasses!
Assume that either DH is carrying the poncho's or you will have ample time to grab them out of the locker.
Assume your camera is small enough to go in a cargo pocket.
Assume that you have a small card holder that will hold the essentials (ID, CC and KTTW), and it also fits in your pocket as will a small amount of cash.
Decide that lipstick/blistex can live in the backpack, as can the binder, bottles of water and sunscreen.
LOL! I find capri pants with 1-2 side cargo pockets that close (for security) are the bomb for Disney. Or really all travel! I don't like things in the front pockets, that is unsightly and not comfy once you sit but those side cargo pockets, for small flat things...perfect! They fit fastpasses quite nicely.
I like knowing my bag is there if I need it and for when we go from park to park or park to a resort for dinner, but in terms of walking around all day
I LOVE not carrying hardly anything!
I have to say...I love the bag but wow, that's a lot to haul around now that I see it in the picture! It would be headed to the locker for sure (for me). LOL!

Me too!:thumbsup2 Kathy, that bag looks marvelous. How do the shoulder straps feel? Are they sufficiently padded?
You know, that's the one thing that I'm a bit concerned about. The baggallini had a nice padded strap and this bag doesn't. I read several on-line reviews and the reviewers all talked about how comfortable the bag was and how it distributes weight well.
Again, I haven't removed the tags yet... so I'm still thinking about it.

Yes, but I got this style: http://www.ebags.com/baggallini/urban_backpack_bagg_crinkle_nylon/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=47336&lastterm=Urban%20Backpack%20Bagg%20-%20Crinkle%20Nylon
(We didn't pay nearly that much for it! I chose a discontinued fabric - and DH ordered it with some type of coupon - so it was like $25)...
Anyway - I love the bag - I use it as a purse, now. It just wasn't that convenient for Disney, because every time I wanted to get something out - I had to take it off.
I want something that goes over my shoulder (like the Baggallini Messenger that you had or a Vera Bradley Hipster) for my next trip - so I can just swing it around if I need to access the bag.
On our last trip, I also had a HUGE duffel bag with extra clothes (and who can even remember what else, but the thing was stuffed, LOL) - but it stayed with the double stroller (that we rented).
This trip, now that the kids are older, I'm going to try to downsize my pack mule tendencies... I tend to over pack... Heck, one of the appeals of driving to me is packing everything into the van that we could ever possibly need :scared1:
So, I'm going to try to go with a small bag, and only bring true essentials into the parks each day??? We'll see... October hours aren't posted yet (as you know), so if the parks are closing early every day - we might not do the afternoon break, and then we'll need more "stuff"...

That was my thing, too... I didn't like the backpack style for the same reason: it was "on again, off again" all day long!
Even the cross-the-body bags need to come off every time you go on a ride. And for me, that meant first taking my pin lanyard off, then taking the bag off. (But, it did give convenient access when I was wearing it.)
That's why I want a shoulder-bag style this time.
Hmm. I think the perfect park bag search is still ON!!

The Vera Bradleys are so cute... but too small for my needs.

Well, I suppose you could... but it depends.
If you don't overpack it (like I do!) you can turn it around and set it on your lap for most rides. But depending on whether a restraint is needed, the bag does have to come off sometimes!
My main issue really is my heavily decorated pin lanyard... which I am not giving up!!!

:magnify: The Bag Hunt Continues...
Well, I've been going back and forth, back and forth about the Carmel bag.
On the one hand, it certainly does hold a lot. :thumbsup2
On the other hand, as Hedy suggested,it may not fit well into the netted bag pockets or under the seats at most of the rides. :headache:
On the one hand, hangs well from the shoulder. :thumbsup2
On the other hand, given how much stuff I'm tempted to cram in there, it will most likely get too heavy. And as Christine (cjackearl) pointed out, the shoulder strap is not padded. That may get a bit uncomfortable.
The general concensus from most of you is that the bag is too big. Thanks for the input... it really helped me decide.
Jordan, you were no help at all.
;)
I may still wind up keeping the bag, but use it for other things. It was a good buy at 43% off (because of the discontinued color.)
So, the hunt for the perfect park bag is still ON!!
Ed tells me he cannot believe that we're having such a long discussion about a bag. Then he added, "You didn't ask me if I wanted a new bag!"

Just wanted to add in my two cents about the bag issue. I've used the Bagallinni messenger for my past couple of trips. You do not have to take it off on most rides. I swing it around the front of my body when we get on a ride. The only rides I take it off for are the roller coasters!
With all the stuff you need to carry around Kathy- I would rent a locker I think. You don't want your back hurting OR getting too sweaty walking around with a large bag.

I can't beleive that I just read this from the begining! Wanted to put my 2 cents in on a couple things. Congrats on your reservations, I have never stayed at any DVC but AKL is awesome! You are going to love it. Next, let the girls go off for a couple hours on their own, they are now teenagers and WDW would be a great place for them to start to spread their wings. Lastly I thought about giving you some bag advice but I either carry just a camera case or as extremely small bag, so that doesn't seem feasable for you. Enjoy your trip, I will be there at the same time. Thanks for all the talk of MNSSHP on Nov. 1st, now I might have to go(unless I can get dinner at V&A that night)

Have you looked at the Overland Donner? It's pretty big, but not as big as the one you got. (http://www.ebags.com/overland_equipment/donner_shoulder_bag/product_detail/index.cfm?modelid=109695)
I looked at it in REI, and decided it was too big for me to use in the parks. But it does have the water bottle holders on the outsides, and I thought the main pockets were pretty big. You might need to get creative with your packing, but it could be done. For example, I've found rolling things creates more room in my bag (I roll my ponchos and secure with rubber band). You could try rolling Billys clothes.
About the strap, I have a couple of smaller Overland bags and the straps aren't padded, but I still find them comfortable (they are made of a nice soft material, and don't seem to dig in like straps on other bags).
ETA: I've seen the Donner for better prices than that, but that was the first link I saw to post.

For example, I've found rolling things creates more room in my bag (I roll my ponchos and secure with rubber band). You could try rolling Billys clothes.

Speaking of renting a locker....what stuff on your master list can you put in the locker? that if an emergency arises you can go back and get the stuff at the front of the park?
Thank you, Scrappie, that just proves my point!! :lmao: I just know that if I leave something behind, Murphy's Law decrees that I'll be sure to need it that day!!!

...but will you use those outside pockets at the park? I would want the storage, but I would want them to close in case I take the bag off...I would not want to lose my camera or anything?
Good point. One of them has a zipper close, so that seems secure. (I would keep my wallet inside the main compartment, of course.) The other pocket with magnetic close would still be good for things like tissues or wet-wipes... stuff that is easily expendable.
Again, its so hard to tell from pictures... I'll have to get it in my hot little hands before I can really judge...

Wow, not sure how I missed all these updates. You changed bags. I think we should keep count on how many bag changes you make before your trip, you still have plenty of time you could probably break LL's (Lady Lallie) record!

I don't think I have the $$ to buy any more bags... I just dropped a bundle buying new summer wardrobes for the kids! :faint:
Oh, if they could only stay the same size for two summers in a row!!!
I did buy 2 new pairs of Crocs sandals (Adara) for myself, though. Not bad, considering that besides my DIS-Crocs, I've been wearing the same two pairs of summer sandals for the past 10 years.... :rolleyes1
All the more reason to not spend more on a parade of bags.
I'm even starting to feel guilty about the $$ spent on the rejected Carmel bag... I'll probably wind up returning it if the Catalina bag works out!

I'm not sure if the "string" bags would hold a lot (?) I definitely like the sling/one shoulder style, though.
Truth is, I really should just bite the bullet and get a locker. ::yes:: Then I wouldn't need such a big bag....
 You're kidding?!?
Kathy
Not really. I know we will do a backpack... I have always carried a sleeping beauty tote for the impt stuff... and left backpack on stroller. We will be hauling more park stuff this year (LUKE stuff--- ) so I have to do a test run this week.

It is a nice bag. I do think it would make a great carry on. Dont put much in it and then you can load it full for the trip home, just think how many things you buy at Disney to put in it. :yay::yay:
And, it was on sale after all!!
Nothing like peer pressure. Sometimes, I just need someone to talk me into keeping or buying something for myself. :upsidedow

I do sometimes miss having a stroller! Between the basket underneath and the bag holders on the handle, that was a lot of hauling power!!

 I try to keep the luggage down to one bag each, plus a carryon each for Ed and me. The Carmel bag has an awsome padded secton for a laptop, so if Ed decides to bring his laptop again, I think it would be better to use it instead of Ed's backpack.

Hi Kathy,
That blue bag looks great. Wish I saw that before our trip. I have a baggalini messenger bag that has tons of pockets. But it does give me a backache sometimes. Before our trip I ordered a VB hipster. It worked good for the most part. It was a tiny bit over stuffed :rolleyes1. It was good because I was able to get a retired colored and it was only $25. As far as MNSSHP maybe you can call and see if they can switch your tickets. The worst they will say is no :goodvibes.

I always say the same thing! But "They" already said no.... I asked if exchanges were allowed when I purchased the tickets.
(At that time, there was no Nov. 1st party.) The reservationist said no exchanges, all sales final. :snooty: Well, I was afraid that the only other party night during our visit (Halloween night) would get sold out, so I took a chance and just bought the tickets.
Oh well, sometimes gambles don't pay off...
But I'm really not too upset because now we're going down to WDW a day earlier! :yay:

I'd like to dress as a couple, but if we can't decide on anything that will work with both of us, separate is okay too.
DH isn't into the idea of dressing up and I know it'll be warm so that automatically excludes anything too over the top---plus I can't wear face paint because of using my camera and I don't want to spend too much on the costumes because we want to go CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP, so a lot of things (like Beauty and the Beast as you mentioned) are automatically out.
Hmmmm. I have a feeling this is going to be harder than I thought!

I switch between my Crocs and my Keens. I have a really high arch so the style of Crocs I have (I think it's called the Madilini, or something like that!) rubs my foot a bit raw if I wear them day after day.
DH can't wear his Crocs at ALL. He's worn them twice and both times they rubbed the top of his foot just raw. It's awful!

Oh man-there is NO way I could do socks and running shoes. Because my DH can't find a good park shoe (aside from his Keens), he often does this as well. Back in January I could do socks-it was FREEZING, but normally, it's just too hot for socks!

The thing to remember about Crocs is that you need to order them BIG... usually a half or a full size UP from what you usually wear. I didn't realize this in the beginning, then I read on the Crocs website that if the tops or sides of your fee are touching the shoe, they're too small. The foot is supposed to "float" on the center of the footbed (or something like that.)
I think that's why some people don't like the Crocs... because they do make your feet look big. If he was wearing the Caymen style (like I wear, below), perhaps he should try the Beach style... they are a bit roomier. :thumbsup2
Ed insists on wearing socks and running shoes (Billy and Tricia wear them, too.) They powder their feet with foot powder and change their socks once during the day to avoid the effects of damp socks. Plus, they wear runner's socks that "wick" the moisture from the foot.
Must work, because none of them have ever had blisters! :thumbsup2

I had no idea about that with Crocs! We purchased ours from a Crocs stand at the Mall of America too-all the employees were wearing them, you'd think they would have said something! I'm sure that's Joe's problem with his.
The socks/running shoes seems to work really well for Joe too - I don't think he's ever had a blister either.

I had a wonderful treat come in the mail yesterday from tnkrbelle565...
We had been talking a while back about park music and I mentioned that when we went in October, I wanted to get the Hallowishes/MNSSHP music. Kristine had the cd and was kind enough to copy it for me so we could listen to it before our Halloween trip!! :music: Thanks, Kristine!!
There's nothing like Disney music to get you even more psyched for your next trip to the World!!
I was taking Billy to the library and I popped it into the van's cd player to surprise him. He loved it!! The first song has little bits of various "villain" theme songs in it and Billy sat in the back listening and calling out each movie as the music changed... "The Little Mermaid!" (Ursula)..."101 Dalmations!" (Cruella)..."Aladdin!" (Jafar). He really enjoyed listening to a brand-new collection of Disney music!
I'm sure we'll be listening to this a lot, especially as we get closer to Halloween!! :goodvibes By then, Billy will have memorized all the songs. He loves singing and humming along to parade/fireworks music and I know that this will really add to his enjoyment of the MNSSHP. Music is really his "thing!"
Thanks again, Kristine!!

Kathy
You are welcome :) Glad you like it! Our favorite song is the Villian Mix and Mingle (I think it's number 19 or something like that). I thought Aisling would be scared of them...but nope!!! Even though she was only 4 and it was midnight after a full park day...no meltdown at all. Walked right up to them after the show to say Hi!

Okay, just getting caught up and now have 2 more items on my shopping list to investigate:
Adaras crocs (I have athens and just dont love them, but love all my other crocs.)
Reef flip flops. I am the flip flop Queen. DH will never notice one more pair. :rotfl2:

Smart boy! I listen to Christmas music all year round and actually the past two years did "caroling" around our lawfirm. I would sit at my desk and when enough people would stop by, I'd sing them Christmas songs. :santa: :rotfl:
Everyone looked at me like I was nuts, but it was a nice way to bring the holiday season to work and it's my favorite time of year.
The MNSSHP CD sounds pretty neat, I might have to look it up on E-bay to see if I can find a copy. I think all of us October WDW go-ers are in planning limbo right now. Not ADR date yet, but close enough that most of us (not me, since I just booked our trip) have had our trips planned down to the minute for months now. :lmao:

Well... not reallly! :rolleyes1
I used to simply look at the park hours and entertainment schedules from the previous year and start fiddling around with itineraries so I could be ready for ADRs at 180 days.... but with all the changes and cuts Disney has been making.... the old schedules are completely unreliable now. :sad2:

Great!!
Can't wait to see it! :goodvibes
I find that the Adaras, while comfy, run a bit more true to size than the Caymens. (See below.) Caymens I ordered 1/2 size up for proper fit as my usual shoe size felt tight. I did that with the Adaras and they are a bit loose... good for around and about, but I wouldn't use them as park touring footwear. The various Crocs styles seem to fit differently, so I suggest trying before buying!

Great updates, I'm all caught up, whew!
Fingers crossed on the new bag, it looks fabulous and you will need that padded strap! I still vote for the locker :) lol!
How special the CD surprise is! My kids could watch Christmas movies all year, Halloween all year, I think it's fabulous. I might have to check out that CD.
I must complain though.
You just made me spend money.
All that flip flop talk.
My FAVORITE flip flops in the world, a pair of Keens that they don't seem to make anymore (but quite similar to the Waimea) dissappeared after our Grand Canyon trip last summer.
Which makes no sense. I wore them for 2 weeks, straight, we drove to the GC and back so I can't see how they could have gotten lost but....they are nowhere to be found. And I can't replace exactly what they were :(
I've been holding off and didn't break down for our Feb trip since I assumed they'd turn up. They HAD to be somewhere, I live in those shoes, now way I would have left them anywhere. I did get a pair of Privo Floats (http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7353817.html)...I have to RAVE about those shoes if anyone is looking for a non tennis shoe, non croc or sandal option. These are mary-jane style and were absolutely perfect for the world...and now they worn all the time at home as well. Super pricey no doubt, I have them in bronze so they are on the dressy side which I wanted but oh...worth every penny and so cute with capri's!
But, back to my Keens. Sure enough, no go. They must be at the Doubletree in Pendleton Oregon. Or Red Lion. I can't even remember where we stayed the last night! Do you think 11 months later it's worth a call? Sigh. I did some major garage clean up last weekend and no go. WAH! What I loved about these is the covered toe so if you are hiking (or a klutz) they offer some protection which has come in handy more times than I can count! Pricey but worth it and thankfully they were not new last summer (though newer than I'd like for disappearing!).
I will second the Reef raves, DSD is a big Reef fan, as well as the Teva Mush of which I have a pair that I practically live in. They are so mushy! I love them.
So....I broke down. The Keens (http://www.onlineshoes.com/productpage.asp?gen=w&pcid=130613) are in the mail.

That reminds me of our 1st Christmas in the desert (we lived in Palm Springs CA for a few years - moved there from KY). DH rented a ton of Christmas movies, cranked up the AC, and got tons of yummy snack food that we don't allow ourselves to buy otherwise. We now have made this our "get in the Christmas spirit" tradition every year, usually the 1st week of December. Love the idea of Christmas in July, but I doubt DH would go for it!

I haven't put out my Village in a long time for 2 reasons:
1) It's the German village, and not super Christmas-sy
2) I didn't have a place for it.
But now I might. I've known people to leave theirs up year-round.

Oooh, the Alpine Village is so pretty... I have a sister who started one. Another sister collects the Dicken's pieces and my mom...well...she mashes everything together in one big urban sprawl!!!
Mine is the North Pole Village, so it would seem a bit odd to leave it up all year!! We moved into our renovated house on Halloween last year, and it took so long to settle in that I didn't get the chance to put it up... but I hope to this year.

Well, the bag has arrived!! :dance3:
I must say that at first inspection, I am very, very pleased!!
The Ellington "Catalina" travel tote is smaller than the Overland "Carmel" bag, but it is still quite roomy. As the name implies, it is shaped more like a tote bag, so I can put items like rolled up clothes in the bottom and they won't get in the way of the things I need to get at more frequently!
The shoulder strap is padded, too, which is a good thing when you carry a lot of stuff. :thumbsup2 Lots of organizational pockets, too...
Just wanted you all to know that it arrived... I'm afraid that I won't be able to take pix until later... I promised Tricia I'd take her clothes shopping and I've already put her off long enough between cleaning and DISing.... so I will post more juicy details later tonight!!!

Kathy,
I'm glad to hear the inital reviews of the bag are positive! It sounds like it might be a winner with being smaller, but still being able to carry a lot, and have the padded shoulder. I look forward to the pics and details later...have a great time shopping!

Hi Everybody! :wave2:
Tricia and I had great shopping karma, despite the fact that it was a rainy Saturday afternoon and everyone and their brother was at the mall!!
Four pair of shorts and two t-shirts for Tricia, plus two t-shirts for Billy = $47.50.
So... on to the bag!! :woohoo:
First, some glamour shots of the Ellington Catalina Tote:
From the front. One of the two front pockets is zippered and the other is a magnetized snap:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2200.jpg
Behind the two front pockets, but in front of the main compartment, is a large zippered pocket. Inside is a small pocket sized, I think, for a cell phone or small camera. You can also see the padding on the shoulder strap:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2201.jpg
Main compartment, which is quite deep:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2202.jpg
Main compartment from the opposite angle showing an inner zippered pocket:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2204.jpg
The zippered pocket can be removed by unsnapping it:
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2205.jpg
Side View. Medium pocket with a snap closure, a small zippered pocket underneath. (The other side has one large pocket with a snap closure.)
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2207-1.jpg
And finally, posing with the bag so you can get an idea of it's size and how it hangs from the shoulder....
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2225-1.jpg
http://i179.photobucket.com/albums/w284/KathyRN137/Disney%20Halloween%2009/DSCN2224-1.jpg
I definitely prefer this bag to the Overland bag... it's more comfortable on my shoulder and will fit better in the netted storage bags on rides. One negative is that there are no mesh pockets to hold water bottles (but since I've got so much other stuff to carry, I'm sure I can sweet-talk Hubby into carrying mine!)

 I didn't feel like running around gathering up all my "real" park stuff again, so I just emptied my current bag into it, plus stuffed all the new clothes we just bought inside to fluff it out a bit!!
I think the depth of the bag really hides how much room there is inside! (But, I'm sure that at some point I'll be posting packing pictures!!)
Ed didn't even make fun of me when I asked him to take bag pix!!
Nice bag.

Thanks Hedy!
It got very long over the winter and I cut it short around Easter... its getting longer now, but I like it shorter so it will get cut again (eventually.) Ed doesn not approve; he likes my hair long. But he's in luck because I'm pretty bad about getting my hair cut... I usually do it about every three months when I should do it every two.... :rolleyes1

The bag really is bigger on the inside than it looks on the outside... it's like a near-bottomless pit inside!! ;)

Oh yeah, I know what you mean!! Billy's far from a baby, but I need a lot of stuff for him, too. I'm trying to pare it down to the essentials, but then I think that everthing I want to carry is essential!!

You really found some bargains shopping!:thumbsup2 Are the new clothes for the trip or just for summer?
I am really starting to think about shopping some more for the trip. DD has had a growth spurt and is getting taller. Some pajamas that were new in January look like capri pants now. I think she grew two inches overnight.:goodvibes

Kathy- Disney sells a little black rubber mickey head shaped ring that fits on the neck of your water bottle and clips to your bag. That might solve your no "water-bottle pocket" on your new bag thing....plus it's really cute.

I found that the VB Hipster I bought for this past trip was too small. (With 3 autograph books to fit in, it just didn't cut it!) I went with the old stand-by, the Baggallini Messenger which was just right.
Great choice! Can't wait to see how it works out for you.

If I was going to Disney without the kids, the VB hipster would be my choice... but with kids, there's just too much "stuff!" ;)
Tricia has asked for my baggalini, so perhaps it will make it back to the World after all!

Well, Jordan, I look at it this way: there is an evolutionary componant to women's facination with bags.
For millions of years Men were primarily the Hunters and women were primarily the Gatherers so of course, women love bags.... they hold everything we gather!!
And while we're out doing all that gathering, we might as well be wearing some really cute and comfortable shoes...

Hi Liesa!
First, let me tell you again how sorry I am about your family's loss... and I hope your dad is feeling better, too.
You must find that your upcoming trip to Nashville is truly bittersweet.
We have one more week of school here, so we're still in a busy groove. I really just need to make it to August when park hours are released and I can make ADRs... then I'll be busy tweaking schedules and itinerary choices all month until school starts in September!
July will probably be the only time that drags a bit... :snail:
These first two weeks of June have just flown by!

You might want to check around locally-the one I got (which I used on my Hipster in Vegas) was a promotional item, but I could have sworn I've seen them locally cheaper (of corse, then you lose the Mickey head).

Hey Kathy,
Just wandering if you are going to schedule the Pirates League make over for Billy for your trip. I just read about it and cannot believe they are finally doing something like this that will appeal to the boys as well. I am thinking about letting Lance do it in August. pirate:

It looks so cute, but, well.... here's the thing....
Billy HATES getting his hair cut!! I mean, it bothers him sensory-wise. Even sitting in the chair at Pirate League would probably freak him out! I also cannot see him tolerating any kind of gel in his hair or makeup on his face for the exact same reason.
Don't ask me HOW his teacher persuaded him to get his face painted last Halloween... he was buggin' me to wash it off the second he got home!
So I don't think the Pirate makeover would be enjoyable for him. (Too bad, because he wants to dress as a pirate for the MNSSHP... it would have been perfect.) Oh well.... :sad2:
It would be great if you could do it for Lance before he ages out of it and it would no longer appeal to him... it really fits in so perfectly with your Pirate/CBR "theme." :thumbsup2

I dont blame him I dont like getting my face painted either.
Lance is undecided at this time. One minutes he's in one minute he is not. I am not so sure about a pirate costume and face paint in the middle of August. In my opinion that could equal miserable.
